"It shows them that, just like our culture, other countries change quite a bit over time," he said. Rhoya Selden, one of Cut.com's researchers for the video, said the styles in the video are mostly based on Tehran fashion. One of the most notable transformations occurs in the 1930s when the model wears a hat. "In the 1930s Reza Shah (the leader at the time) created a law that everyone had to give up their traditional Iranian clothing and dress in the Western styles to modernize the country," Selden said. During that time, many women wore hats because they were used to having their heads covere
.Carter Sold Out Iran 1977-1978 Americans have been hearing for several years about potential war with Iran. For instance, on September 17, 2006, Time magazine reported, "The U.S. would have to consider military action long before Iran had an actual bomb." On October 10, under the heading "A Chilling Preview of War," Time warned: "As Iran continues to enrich uranium, the U.S. military has issued a 'Prepare to Deploy' order." In September 2007, US News & World Report stated: "Amid deepening frustration with Iran, calls for shifting Bush administration policy toward military strikes or other stronger actions are intensifying." And in June 2008, President-to-be Barack Obama declared: "The danger from Iran is grave, it is real, and my goal will be to eliminate this threat." However, suppose a progressive, pro-Western regime ruled Iran, representing no threat? War discussions would be unnecessary. Yet many forget that, until 33 years ago, exactly such a regime led Iran, until it was toppled with the help of the same U.S. foreign policy establishment recently beating war drums.

In the new Iranian nuclear deal, President Obama acknowledged that after 13 years, Iran's breakout time could be just a few months. Up until now, he's promised 28 times that he would prevent Iran from getting a nuke.
Fox News' Monica Crowley went kind of crazy on The O'Reilly Factor while she and Kirsten Powers were debating Bibi Netanyahu's speech this evening. BIllO harped on the fact that nobody can trust Iran to honor any deal and Kirsten commented that Bibi should never had been invited to the US to make the speech because it was all about bashing president Obama since we're doing everything we can do... The P5+1 offered Iran a 10 year accord in an attempt to keep their nuclear program at its present level for the long-term. Unfortunately, Iran walked away from the deal. Could a seven year accord be imminent, and if so, will it be with Iran and not the Palestinians? Or will it include both? No one could have predicted the growth of the internet and when the commercial internet was in its infancy, the pool of around 4 billion IPv4 addresses seemed huge. In a regional meeting in the Iranian capital, Tehran, major distributors of internet number resources, which consists of IPv4 and IPv6 addresses and autonomous system numbers, discussed and exchanged information about the urgency of this transition from IPv4 to IPv6. The scarcity of the 4th version of IPs worldwide has created a so called black market. Due to the unpreparedness of the infrastructure enabling the occurrence of this transition to IPv6, users inevitably resort to the old version, which has its own prices to pay. New challenges come along with this transition too. With almost 90% of the internet being based on IPv4, IPv6 users will be able to only view 10 % of the internet content and that signifies a simultaneous change in both users' and content providers' IP versions. Of all networks in the global BGP routing, which is a standardized exterior gateway protocol designed to exchange routing and reach ability information between autonomous systems (AS) on the Internet, 17.4% had IPv6 protocol support. All the internet service providers in Iran are operating under the supervision of Telecommunication Company of Iran, TCI, and that means ISPs operating in Iran’s transition to the new version of IPs will not be effective as long as TCI doesn’t apply it first. Iranian officials have reported on the full deployment of IPv6 in the country’s internet in the next 4 years, and experts consider it as a positive move in order to further expand Iran’s capabilities in cyber space. Once upon a time...the west supported Iran nukes, under a dictator, who until he was overthrown in 1979, disallowed elections took the country into economic turmoil, and put to death any perceived opposition. Since 1958, Iran's nuclear program has been operational. During the rule of the Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Iran was permitted to enrich Uranium up to 100%. However after the revolution of 1979 these permissions were revoked by way of threats from the west. Today, the west and Israel strongly condemn the enrichment of uranium, even up to 5%. In the post-9/11 age, western media has been highly subservient in assuring the public that attacks on the U.S. and its allies,by Iran, are pending.
My name's Michael and I'm the Marketing Manager for Wild Frontiers. I'm here at the magnificent site of Persepolis in Iran. I've been in Iran for two weeks now and so far I've been enchanted by this fascinating country. CITIES The capital Tehran is most people's starting point, and in this busy city you can see ostentatious ornaments from the royal household in the crown jewels museum, and wander around the Shah's old residence, Golestan Palace. Just north of Tehran you can visit the Elburz Mountains for skiing in the winter or hiking in the summer. But the real highlights lie elsewhere. In the off-the-beaten-track city of Yazd you'll find a cityscape dotted with the ingenious wind tunnels -- which could be described as the world's first air-conditioning system - the ancient Zoroastrian site of the Towers of Silence, the magnificent Friday Mosque and a number of beautiful palaces and gardens. Shiraz meanwhile is a lovely university town, known as the city of poets, wine, literature and flowers, and is a real delight. I particularly loved visiting the atmospheric tomb of the Persian poet Hafez. In the evenings it has a magical atmosphere as people gather to read poetry and celebrate the life of this revered poet. Shiraz is also blessed with numerous picturesque mosques and beautiful gardens. The jewel in the Persian crown is undoubtedly the beautiful city of Esfahan, which has one of the largest squares in the world in the breathtaking Naqsh Jahan Square and probably the most stunning Islamic architecture found anywhere. Esfahan is unbelievably picturesque, with its famed bridges and lively bazaars. ANCIENT SITES Iran has a long and rich history, with the Persian Empire at one point ruling over 44% of the world's population. The country is home to some world-class archaeological sites, including the rock-carved tombs of Nagsh e Rostam, where Darius the great is buried, and the spectacular Achamaenid palace complex at Persepolis. This ancient palace was built by Darius the Great to celebrate events such as the Persian New Year, when representatives from the four corners of the empire would congregate. This vast site merits at least a couple of hours to explore the ruins and bas reliefs. SCENERY But it's not only about the cities and ancient sites, the scenery of Iran is an unexpected highlight. From beautiful picnic spots such as the Murgon Waterfalls, to fertile valleys in the Bavanat Mountains, where you can encounter Kashqai nomads and see a way of life that has changed little over centuries. In the Dena mountains around Yasuj you'll find an alpine scenery of snow-capped mountains, lakes and streams. It is well worth spending some time away from the better-known cultural sites to explore this lesser-known side of Iran. It really is a beautiful country. THE PEOPLE The people of Iran are another real highlight, being welcoming and keen to engage in conversation about everything from politics to football. You are likely to be surrounded by schoolkids asking you questions, offered tea and invited to share in picnics with the locals pretty much wherever you go. If ever a people were misrepresented by a regime it would be the Iranians. Thanks to a baby boom in the 80's, over 60% of its 70 million population are aged under 30. This generation is well-educated, worldly, and exposed to global media through the internet. Walking around the streets -- which are incidentally very safe - this certainly feels like a nation on the cusp of change. So forget about any preconceptions you may have about safety, security, or the welcome you'll receive in Iran. I've found the people to be the friendliest and most hospitable I've found anywhere in the world. So check out Wild Frontiers' tours to Iran and discover for yourself this fascinating country.

Due to its free trade zone status, it is touted as a consumer's paradise, with numerous malls, shopping centres, tourist attractions, and resort hotels. Then he went to Tezerj waterfall in Hormozgan Province. Then, to The Borujerdi House, a historic house in Kashan. The house was built in 1857. When it comes to Tehran, it's impossible to avoid politics and easy to overlook the Iranian city's thriving culinary scene. In our first installment of The MUNCHIES Guide to Tehran, our host Gelareh Kiazand introduces us to the bustling street food offerings in the city. We begin our journey at the capital city's Grand Bazaar, since that's where commodities first arrive. Gelareh beelines for the market's food stands, where she samples dried fruits and nuts while waiting out the line at Moslem Restaurant, frequented by up to 5,000 kebab connoisseurs daily—well worth it for her favorite tah chin. At the more modest and bygone Tajrish Bazaar, she's the proverbial kid in a candy store, wading through copper and carpet vendors in search of sweet snacks, such as grape molasses and lavasak (fruit leather). Travel video about destination Tunisia. Tunis is a North African city with a long history. After the Hasfides and Osmans, the Spanish Moors came but then had to give way to French colonial rule until present day Independence. In the old town, there are more than 700 historic monuments which include 200 palaces, a colourful variety of buildings and numerous mosques.Among shoreline lava rock is the entrance to the Ghar El-Kebir, a collection of sandstone grottos. During Roman times, thousands of slaves were forced to bring building material for Carthage and El Djem from subterranean shafts. In Sousse, the simple fort of Ribat is probably the oldest Islamic building in North Africa, in which Muslim soldiers lived in monastery-like isolation and in the town’s Archaeological Museum there is a fantastic range of mosaics, predominantly from Punic and Roman excavations. Gabes is an oasis town which overflows with luxuriant floral splendour. By horse and carriage visitors can travel through one of the most beautiful maritime oases in Tunisia where, under 500,000 date palms, tobacco, henna, pumpkins, apricots and bananas thrive. The focal point of important caravan routes and trading centre for goods from Libya and Black Africa, Medenine is a very charming and lively city. Its reinforced honeycomb-shaped caves were the extraordinary-looking buildings that many will recall from the film ‘Star Wars’. The Sahara is the largest desert on earth, with different landscapes such as rock deserts, salt deserts and serene oases. Kebili is located on the edge of a huge salt lake and is a typical desert village with a green oasis and Artesian springs which provide water for its fruit and vegetable gardens. Nefta is also a green paradise in the desert, an oasis town that boasts no less than 152 Artesian wells. Dougga contains Tunisia’s most important ruins which nestle in the hills among shimmering olive trees and poppy fields. Endless deserts and fertile oases, busy towns and isolated mountain regions, Roman temples and Muslim mosques: Tunisia is tempting!

Hyundai Motor expands its operations into the world′s biggest car market, China,... breaking ground for its number four plant in the country. And staying behind the wheel.... The Seoul Motor Show kicks off... under the theme of "Experience the Technology, Feel the Artistry." Hello, everybody. Welcome to the newscast. Coming to you live from Seoul, Korea, I′m Kang Chery. Title: Tentative deal to curb Iran′s nuclear program reached We begin with the bitter and more than decade-long standoff between the West and Iran over Tehran′s nuclear program,... which could soon be reaching an end. Iran and the six world powers including the U.S. and China agreed to a framework for a deal... to curb Iran′s nuclear development, in return for lifting international sanctions. Choi You-sun reports. After eight days of marathon negotiations in Switzerland, Iran and the so-called P5-plus-one nations, agreed to a framework for a deal to curb Tehran′s nuclear development program. It′s not a final deal, but a significant step towards extending the time it would take Iran to build a nuclear weapon, by at least 10 years. "Iran will be able to continue its peaceful nuclear program but there will be limitations placed on the level and the duration of its enrichment program and the quantity of enriched material that can be kept." Under the framework, Tehran has agreed to suspend two-thirds of its centrifuges that can be used to produce weapons-grade uranium. It will also dismantle a plutonium-producing reactor, and allow international inspectors to monitor all of its nuclear facilities on a regular basis. The U.S. and the European Union′s economic and financial sanctions concerning Tehran′s nuclear activities will be lifted in phases, but will be re-enforced if Tehran breaks its commitments. Iran and the five UN Security Council permanent members plus Germany, are now tasked with reaching a final agreement by June 30th after which international sanctions relief will start. "I am convinced that if this framework leads to a final comprehensive deal it will make our country, our allies and our world safer." While the West and the UN chief welcomed the news, Israel, a strong opponent of Iran′s nuclear program, said any deal must significantly roll back Iran′s nuclear capabilities. The leaders of the U.S. and Iran face another hurdle at home as the final agreement is viewed with skepticism by many lawmakers in Washington and Tehran. Choi You-sun, Arirang News. Title: With initial Iran nuke deal done,... is N. Korea deal possible? The nuclear deal with Iran would have been unthinkable even a few years ago,... so there′s renewed optimism... that a similar agreement could be reached with North Korea. Few months ago, I had the opportunity to get to know Ken R. In July of 1971 Ken moved with his family to Iran to work for Tavanir, an Iranian hydroelectric company which had a contract with Toronto Hydro, Ken's employer. Ken still has almost a thousand photos preserved on slides documenting his and his family's time in Iran and their experience adapting to the foreign yet extremely rich culture of Iran during the Shah's reign. The video presented here shows digitized versions of these slides, with descriptive narration by Ken and accompanied by elegant Iranian classical music. This video not only portrays Ken and his family's astonishing experience, but transports the viewer back over 40 years to Iran during the reign of the Shah, demonstrating the country's rich architecture, food, people, political situation and so much more.

Iranian students have held an event at the former US embassy in Tehran to voice their concerns over the mutual understanding reached in Lausanne between Iran and the P5+1. Some of the students here seem to be not fully convinced that the Lausanne statement will lead to a lasting deal. Amid international acclaim of the Switzerland announcement, Israel has shown strong discontent over a mutual understanding between Iran and the P5+1. Some of the Iranian students believe that Tel Aviv is merely playing the role of bad cop in order to enable the US government to impose its unreasonable demands not mentioned in the joint statement on Iran. However, Iran has welcomed the Lausanne statement. Earlier, a top Iranian commander thanked the country’s nuclear negotiating team saying the outcome in the Swiss city of Lausanne has rendered ineffective US options to force its political will on Iranians. Major General Mohammad-Ali Ja’afari says the US has now been forced to change its political behavior towards Iran, and has chosen diplomacy to resolve the nuclear case. Last week, Iranians in the capital took to the streets to celebrate Switzerland statement which they say will benefit them. Despite the mutual understanding, diplomats caution the road ahead toward drafting a final deal by the end of June is not easy. But, if negotiators succeed, it will be a victory for diplomacy and an end to years of dispute over Iran’s nuclear program as well as anti-Iran sanctions and threats. Please share this. This video is a remake of "Bomb Iran". I named this video "Bomb Iran 2015". By John H. Bundy III. The music is by Vince Vance & The Valiants. Bomb Iran copyright 1980 Vince Vance and the Valiants. Thank you Vince Vance for allowing me to produce this slideshow video using your wonderful music. You are a true friend to me and this once great Nation America. In 1980 The Ayatollah Kock-A-Mamie came back to Iran after the Shah was deposed. He convinced mindless Iranian students to storm our embassy and hold American civilians and marines hostage for 444 days. This fanatical coward rabble-roused the easily duped Muslims into thinking that stoning women and maiming their sex organs so you could have 72 virgins was a way to Heaven. Go Figure. (Glad that I believe in Jesus.) He took a beautiful modern country back past the middle ages preaching his fanatical form of Islam that preaches Death to Anyone Different. I told you people 35 years ago in the song "Bomb Iran" that the only thing Radical Muslims understand since before the crusades is annihilation. Radicalized Islamic jihadist are Barbaric Cowards. Anyway, if you would have listened to me and we would have not been led by Jimmy Carter, then none of these Murdering Groups like the Taliban, Alqueda and ISIS would be jacking with us today. Here's the lesson: When anyone jacks with us, stand up to them. If you do not, it will come back to haunt us over and over. God bless America. -Vince Vance

The friend of a U.S. Marine jailed in Iran tonight slammed the administration for not doing enough to bring the imprisoned veteran home. Amir Hekmati has been jailed in Iran for three-and-a-half years for espionage, although his family says he was only in Iran to visit his grandmother. Hekmati’s friend, Sgt. Gabriel Justice, called the past three-and-a-half years some of the most painful of his life. Family of Marine Jailed in Iran: 'We'd Like State Dept. to Do More' Montel: How Dare We Make a Deal With Iran While Americans Are Still Held?! “Amir is not just a U.S. citizen, he’s my warrior brother, a United States Marine,” Justice said. “I am absolutely appalled, and I am disgusted with our president for his lack of effort in getting him back.” Justice charged Obama with turning his back on the veteran, and he slammed Obama’s “accomplice,” Secretary of State John Kerry, for “playing footsie with Iran” while Hekmati is tortured in prison. Watch the fiery interview and hear from Montel Williams in the clip above.

‘US tries to put spin on Iran talks results’ rom the beginning of the nuclear talks the US knew of the Iranian demand to remove the sanctions, says political analyst Seyed Mohammad Marandi. Tehran has been flexible and now, for the deal to be signed, the US has to be flexible, he added. RT: The preliminary deal is signed. Why are there problems now? Were those 18 months of negotiations just useless? Seyed Mohammad Marandi: The problem really lies with the US trying to put a spin on the results of the negotiations. The US put out a fact sheet that the Iranian Foreign Minister said was in some instances twisted, it twisted the facts. On some occasions in the fact sheet we see dishonest claims being made by the US State Department. The Iranians have insisted from the very beginning, our Foreign Minister, and now President [Hassan] Rouhani said today clearly that if there is going to be a deal all the sanctions must be removed from the very first day. That is the condition that Iran believes is necessary- the Iranians won’t back down from that. If Iran is to make sacrifices or to be lenient with regards to elements of its nuclear program for a period of time, then there is no reason for the sanctions to continue. And the Iranians know that if the Americans are allowed to retain certain sanctions, the Iranians will simply have to chase after them for years to get those removed. So the Iranians are saying: “When the deal is done, the sanctions have to go!” RT: Why is the issue of how to lift the sanctions becoming so thorny? Surely this was ironed out in Switzerland? SMM: I think the Iranian negotiating team from the very start ….said that all the sanctions must be removed. Ayatollah Khomeini, the leader said that during the Iranian New Year speech. President Rouhani has said that repeatedly. Also, the Iranians have stressed repeatedly that the Iranian nuclear program ultimately must be normalized after a few years or a period of time when Iran slows down in order to build goodwill. In fact, the phrase that President Rouhani once used was that “Iran will not accept nuclear apartheid” and that all of its rights within the framework of the Non-proliferation treaty must be respected. So, the Americans from the beginning knew the Iranian negotiating position. The Iranians have been flexible. The Americans have to now learn to be flexible…Then I think we will have a deal. It is becoming clear that by the day that the US has made grave mistake by supporting the Turks and the Saudis, and the Israeli regime in this region which has only led to the rise of extremism, Wahhabist groups- it is leading to a global security risk… Americans need Iran in order to stabilize the region if that is their intent. And it is the Iranians that have stopped ISIL, al-Qaeda groups in Iraq and Syria… RT: There are other problems like the reduction of the uranium stockpile, and installing cameras in Iran's nuclear sites, something Iran's opposing. Is the West trying to wrestle more out of this deal, or is Iran trying to shift the goalposts? SMM: No, it’s Washington. The Iranians have said from the beginning that anything that threatens Iranian sovereignty won’t be accepted. Iran will make concessions, Iran will be flexible. But, for example, having online cameras is not an option. Why? Because the IAEA in the past received intelligence about Iranian scientists, they met Iranian scientists; they passed this information onto Western intelligence organizations. And our scientists were assassinated; they were murdered as a result of the collusion between the IAEA and the West. This is something that President Rouhani has said specifically today. RT: What other potential problems do you think might appear in the coming months between Iran and the world powers? SMM: The problems will not be between Iran, Russia, and China. The Russians and the Chinese have so far shown a much more reasonable attitude towards the Iranian nuclear program. Both the Russians and the Chinese have said repeatedly that Iran has never been perusing anything but a peaceful nuclear program and they have stated that they want a solution to the problem.
Rush Limbaugh (4/8/15): "During those 10 years they continue to build up an entire nuclear program, which, after 10, 13 years, would permit them to essentially weaponize a bunch of bombs." Obama ended Iran sanctions, giving them much more money to nuke up (Limbaugh) personal injury lawyer
Rush Limbaugh (4/8/15): "Iran is claiming/promising to stay a year away from "breaking out" (i.e., weaponizing their nukes) for the next 10 years. When they get to year 13 or 14, they're gonna be much closer than a year out and they're not gonna have to warn anybody. They can just do it." Iran Nukes: Valley Girl Marie Harf Corrects Obama? Iran has sent its 34th navy fleet to the Gulf of Aden and Bab al-Mandab Strait in line with the country’s policy to safeguard naval routes. The flotilla comprising the Bushehr logistic vessel and Alborz destroyer left the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas on Wednesday. The three-month deployment of the Iranian fleet will protect vessels against pirates. In recent years, Iran’s Navy has increased its presence in international waters to protect merchant vessels and tankers. It has foiled several pirate attacks on both Iranian and foreign tankers. In September 1996, I visited Iran. One of my most enduring memories of that trip was that in my hotel lobby there was a sign above the door proclaiming “Down With USA.” But it wasn’t a banner or graffiti. It was tiled and plastered into the wall. I thought to myself: “Wow — that’s tiled in there! That won’t come out easily.” Nearly 20 years later, in the wake of a draft deal between the Obama administration and Iran, we have what may be the best chance to begin to pry that sign loose, to ease the U.S.-Iran cold/hot war that has roiled the region for 36 years. But it is a chance fraught with real risks to America, Israel and our Sunni Arab allies: that Iran could eventually become a nuclear-armed state.
Iran hopes to resolve differences with Chinese energy companies on oil and gas projects in the Islamic republic, as Tehran wants to be ready to raise output quickly after a potential lifting of sanctions this year, Iranian oil officials said on Wednesday. The officials are in China this week to discuss Chinese investments in oil and gas developments in Iran, as well as oil sales, just days after world powers and the OPEC member reached a framework nuclear deal. The talks come ahead of a visit to Beijing by Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh, his first since assuming his post two years ago. Iran, the world's fifth-largest oil producer, hopes to nearly double its exports from just over 1 million barrels per day (bpd) in two months once sanctions are lifted, although analysts say it will take longer. 'Money we owe them' Some of the production is expected to come from projects state companies China National Petroleum Company (CNPC) and Sinopec Group have contracted to develop. But the Chinese companies have stalled or scaled back on developments in Iran since late 2010, as Western sanctions tightened. “The main issue is the money we owe them. They have worked there, but the return has not started yet,” said Amir-Hossein Zamaninia, Iran's deputy oil minister for commerce and international affairs. Iran also wants Chinese companies to use the latest technology and equipment in any resumption of work to get fields pumping, Zamaninia said. A CNPC spokesman was not available for comment, and Sinopec did not immediately respond to an e-mail about the talks. Iran's oil exports have been cut by more than half to about 1.1 million bpd from a pre-2012 level of 2.5 million bpd, with the loss of oil income making it difficult to invest in new developments and pay for the equipment and services needed to keep its production operating smoothly. Among oilfields Chinese companies have worked on, the Yadavaran project has progressed relatively well, with 95 percent of the work completed and the field, operated by Sinopec, ready from about September, Zamaninia said. He said the field, in the southwestern province of Khuzestan, will have a 75,000 bpd capacity in phase one. Sinopec agreed in late 2007 to a $2 billion deal to develop the field. CNPC, China's top energy group and PetroChina's parent, agreed to take on other projects, including a $2 billion contract to turn North Azadegan into a 120,000 bpd field. Zamaninia said Iran would focus this trip on resolving issues with current contracts, adding that the two sides have yet to discuss any new projects. Iranian officials said CNPC, which pulled out of Iran's giant South Pars natural gas field in 2012, this week expressed interest in returning to the offshore project. Sanctions CNPC withdrew from South Pars because of sanctions as they made it difficult to get the equipment needed from U.S. and European companies, Zamaninia said. Mohsen Ghamsari, director of international affairs at the National Iranian Oil Company, said Iran would seek gas liquefaction technology from European firms, while CNPC's contribution would focus on developing and producing gas. “For LNG we have some contracts with some Europeans that, hopefully after the finalization of the (nuclear) negotiations, then we can receive technology from that side,” Ghamsari said. The South Pars project is part of a huge formation shared with Qatar that makes up the world's largest pure natural gas reserve. The Iranian part, divided into 24 phases, could cost more than $40 billion to develop. Many analysts say developing LNG assets from scratch or early stages, as Iran's would need to be, is not commercially viable until Asian spot prices rise substantially, which is not expected in the next two years.

In 1975 for one of the first-ever episodes of the fifth estate, Adrienne Clarkson talked to Mohammad Reza Pahlavi -the Shah of Iran- about inflation in the West in the face of rising oil prices. The Shah contends that the West built itself at Iran’s expense and he is now putting things right. Clarkson raises the issues of Iran’s record with political prisoners and torture and his views on torture are unequivocal. The Pahlavi dynasty would end four years later in the wake of the Islamic Revolution of 1979. Pahlavi died of cancer while in exile one year later. the fifth estate is celebrating our 40th season and we are taking a look back at some of the people and places we have featured on the program. President Obama admitted Tuesday in a broadcast interview that his nuclear agreement with Iran only delays Tehran from eventually acquiring a weapon, which could come immediately after Year 13 of the agreement -- leaving the problem for future presidents. Obama made the comments about Tehran's so-called "breakout time" in an interview with NPR News that aired Tuesday morning. The president was attempting to answer the charge that the deal framework agreed upon by the U.S., Iran, and five other nations last week fails to eliminate the risk of Iran getting a nuclear weapon because it allows Tehran to keep enriching uranium. Obama said that Iran would be capped for a decade at 300 kilograms of uranium -- not enough to convert to a stockpile of weapons-grade material. "What is a more relevant fear would be that in Year 13, 14, 15, they have advanced centrifuges that enrich uranium fairly rapidly, and at that point, the breakout times would have shrunk almost down to zero," Obama said. The stark admission -- after his energy secretary even claimed the deal was a "forever agreement" -- came as the president seeks to quiet a growing chorus questioning whether the deal he and world leaders have negotiated merely delays the certainty of a nuclear-armed Iran. Obama has insisted confidently that Iran will not get a nuclear weapon on his watch, which ends in roughly 20 months, but has made no similar assurances about his successors. Under the terms of the deal framework, Iran's breakout time would be expanded from the present two to three months to at least a year. But that constraint would stay in place only for 10 years, at which point some restrictions would start phasing out. Although Obama acknowledged that Iran's breakout time could shrink, he said at least the world would have better insight into Iran's capabilities because of extensive inspections in the earlier years. "The option of a future president to take action if in fact they try to obtain a nuclear weapon is undiminished," Obama said. Tehran has always maintained it doesn't want a nuclear bomb, but the international community has been skeptical, and America's close ally Israel considers a nuclear Iran an existential threat. U.S. lawmakers and foreign policy hawks have questioned how Obama can strike a diplomatic deal with a country that continues to threaten Israel and tops the U.S. list of state sponsors of terror. Obama, who is also working to restore ties to longtime U.S. foe Cuba, has suggested cautiously in the past that a nuclear agreement could be a precursor to Iran pursuing a more amicable relationship with the world community. But in the days since the framework deal was announced in Switzerland, his administration has sought to emphasize that the deal relies on inspections, not trust, and is worthwhile even if the Iranian regime remains venomously anti-American. "I think there are hard-liners inside of Iran that think it is the right thing to do to oppose us, to seek to destroy Israel, to cause havoc in places like Syria or Yemen or Lebanon," Obama said. "If they don't change at all, we're still better off having the deal." In a portion of the same interview that aired Monday, Obama also rejected a call by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for any Iran nuclear deal to recognize his nation’s “right to exist,” claiming it would be a “fundamental misjudgment” to link the two issues. “The notion that we would condition Iran not getting nuclear weapons in a verifiable deal on Iran recognizing Israel is really akin to saying that we won't sign a deal unless the nature of the Iranian regime completely transforms. And that is, I think, a fundamental misjudgment,” Obama said. The comments were a rebuke to Netanyahu, who on Friday blasted the Iran framework deal and said his Cabinet is uniformly opposed to it. He also demanded that any final agreement include "a clear and unambiguous Iranian recognition of Israel's right to exist … the survival of Israel is non-negotiable." Obama also told NPR, “I want to return to this point: we want Iran not to have nuclear weapons precisely because we can't bank on the nature of the regime changing. That's exactly why we don't want to have nuclear weapons. If suddenly Iran transformed itself to Germany or Sweden or France, then there would be a different set of conversations about their nuclear infrastructure.”

Iran (i/ɪˈrɑːn/ or /aɪˈræn/;Persian: ایران [ʔiˈɾɒn] (
listen)), officially the Islamic Republic of Iran (Persian: جمهوری اسلامی ایران Jomhuri-ye Eslāmi-ye Irān), is a country in Southern and Western Asia. The name "Iran", which in Persian means "Land of the Aryans", has been in use natively since the Sassanian era. It came into use internationally in 1935, before which the country was known to the Western world as Persia (
/ˈpɜrʒə/ or /ˈpɜrʃə/). Both "Persia" and "Iran" are used interchangeably in cultural contexts; however, "Iran" is the name used officially in political contexts.
The 18th-largest country in the world in terms of area at 1,648,195 km2 (636,372 sq mi), Iran has a population of around 79 million. It is a country of particular geopolitical significance owing to its location in the Middle East and central Eurasia. Iran is bordered on the north by Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. As Iran is a littoral state of the Caspian Sea, which is an inland sea, Kazakhstan and Russia are also Iran's direct neighbors to the north. Iran is bordered on the east by Afghanistan and Pakistan, on the south by the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, on the west by Iraq and on the northwest by Turkey. Tehran is the capital, the country's largest city and the political, cultural, commercial and industrial center of the nation. Iran is a regional power, and holds an important position in international energy security and world economy as a result of its large reserves of petroleum and natural gas. Iran has the second largest proven natural gas reserves in the world and the fourth largest proven petroleum reserves.
