Iran’s parliament has passed the general outlines of a motion that gives the go-ahead to the government for the conditional implementation of the nuclear agreement with the P5+1 countries.
The lawmakers approved the urgent motion following hours of heated debate. Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his deputies along with Iran's nuclear chief Ali Akbar Salehi attended the open session of parliament. On Tuesday, the legislature will discuss the details of the bill which stipulates that the nuclear agreement should be enforced on a voluntary basis. Based on the motion, the government should stop all its voluntary activities in case the six-member panel violates the terms of the agreement. In June, Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany agreed on a joint comprehensive plan of action over Tehran’ nuclear energy program.

The report by the J-C-P-O-A Review Committee says the conclusion contains important strengths and weaknesses. It said, in legal terms, the J-C-P-O-A cancels six previous UN Security Council resolutions against Iran which is a positive point. But it commits Iran to something beyond the Non Proliferation Treaty which is a weakness and needs parliamentary approval before implementation. The report described as very positive the recognition of Iran’s right to keep its heavy water reactor in Arak and its Fordo enrichment facility. However, the report warned that the required technical changes, including limitation in the number of centrifuges, undermine Iran’s ability to quickly restore its nuclear work. The report also said the J-C-P-O-A has key weaknesses in security terms by allowing inspection of military sites. The report added that it allows unprecedented intelligence gathering from Iran. This is while the report hailed the fact that that Iran’s missile program will continue uninterrupted in the future. The report said it is also very positive that economic sanctions, including the SWIFT embargo, are scrapped. But it criticized the fact that the infrastructure for SWIFT sanctions will remain in place for eight years.

In Iran, the deputy speaker of the Parliament is warning the US Senate against any new sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
Mohammad-Hassan Abou-Torabi Fard says the slightest move by the Senate against Iran will be followed by an immediate reaction from the parliament. He added that Iran’s parliament would task the government to press ahead with its nuclear objectives as well as uranium enrichment program for civilian purposes, if new sanctions were approved against Tehran. This comes after a Senate committee passed a bill endorsing further sanctions against Iran. However, the legislation has little chance of becoming law due to White House opposition. US President Barack Obama has threatened to veto any new measure against Iran as it could mar the ongoing negotiations between Tehran and the P-five-plus-one countries.

Iran opens 2nd underground missile site to cameras
Iran’s parliament (Majlis) speaker, Ali Larijani, has officially visited the second underground missile facility of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) packed with precision-guided long-range Emad missiles. The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) aired on Tuesday exclusive footage of the deep underground tunnel filled with numerous Emad ballistic missiles.
Larijani said the IRGC has succeeded in making significant scientific and technological breakthroughs.
He added that the IRGC military power is intimidating the enemy.
The top Iranian parliamentarian emphasized that the IRGC's power is a major deterrent conducive to peace and security in the country and across the region.

It is an unusual sight, members of an Iranian Parliamentary delegation speaking with their British counterparts inside the very seat of British power. In a reciprocal visit after a British delegation visited the Islamic Republic last year, parliamentarians and dignitaries from both countries sought to highlight why this visit was important and timely.
With sensitive negotiations taking place involving The Islamic Republic of Iran and the west on its nuclear energy programme, meetings like this one are a useful way of bridging the gap between both nations in a more informal fashion.
Behind those grand doors and away from the prying eyes of the media Iranian and British officials are enjoying a spot of Parliamentary hospitality. Now it's hoped that low profile occasions like this will bring both countries a little bit closer to understanding each other's positions
The delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran will be in Britain for a total of five days and will share what has been gleaned on this trip with their colleagues back home.

STORYLINE:
Iran's parliament has approved a bill to reduce Tehran's diplomatic relations with London and withdraw the country's ambassador to Britain.
In a session of parliament broadcast on state radio, lawmakers voted on Sunday to require Iran's foreign ministry to reduce diplomatic relations to the level of charge d'affaires within two weeks.
The bill needs ratification by a constitutional watchdog to become a law.
The decision is seen as a reaction to support offered by London last week to new American efforts to pressure Tehran to halt its alleged nuclear weapons programme.
Iran says its nuclear activities have aimed at peaceful purposes such as power generation.

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani says Tehran is sticking to its commitments under the nuclear deal with the P5+1 group of countries.
Rouhani made the comment in a meeting with the visiting president of the European Parliament Martin Schultz. Rouhani said the other side must also abide by its obligations and lift all anti-Iran sanctions in a timely manner. He added that the situation is ripe for Iran and the European Union to deepen their relations. The European Parliament's president said, for his turn, that the nuclear deal has provided an excellent opportunity to open a new chapter in ties between Tehran and the EU. Schultz said Iran is a stabilizing force in the Middle East, which he described as a volatile region due to terrorism in Syria. Schulz is on a one-day visit to Iran.

From there, I saw as much as I could in eight hours before I had to be back at the airport to catch my flight back again.

Climbing Mt. Damavand was everything we expected and more. We arrived in Iran wanting to climb this Volcano and quietly confident we would be able to reach the summit. Only after our first night at the camp did our doubts start to arise. The altitude got to us and we really struggled to sleep at night. We chose not to hire a guide after meeting some Polish guys who had just arrived back from Damav

My name's Michael and I'm the Marketing Manager for Wild Frontiers. I'm here at the magnificent site of Persepolis in Iran. I've been in Iran for two weeks now and so far I've been enchanted by this fascinating country.
CITIES
The capital Tehran is most people's starting point, and in this busy city you can see ostentatious ornaments from the royal household in the crown jewels museum, and wander around the Shah's old residence, Golestan Palace. Just north of Tehran you can visit the Elburz Mountains for skiing in the winter or hiking in the summer.
But the real highlights lie elsewhere. In the off-the-beaten-track city of Yazd you'll find a cityscape dotted with the ingenious wind tunnels -- which could be described as the world's first air-conditioning system - the ancient Zoroastrian site of the Towers of Silence, the magnificent Friday Mosque and a number of beautiful palaces and gardens.
Shiraz meanwhile is a lovely university town, known as the city of poets, wine, literature and flowers, and is a real delight. I particularly loved visiting the atmospheric tomb of the Persian poet Hafez. In the evenings it has a magical atmosphere as people gather to read poetry and celebrate the life of this revered poet. Shiraz is also blessed with numerous picturesque mosques and beautiful gardens.
The jewel in the Persian crown is undoubtedly the beautiful city of Esfahan, which has one of the largest squares in the world in the breathtaking Naqsh Jahan Square and probably the most stunning Islamic architecture found anywhere. Esfahan is unbelievably picturesque, with its famed bridges and lively bazaars.
ANCIENT SITES
Iran has a long and rich history, with the Persian Empire at one point ruling over 44% of the world's population. The country is home to some world-class archaeological sites, including the rock-carved tombs of Nagsh e Rostam, where Darius the great is buried, and the spectacular Achamaenid palace complex at Persepolis. This ancient palace was built by Darius the Great to celebrate events such as the Persian New Year, when representatives from the four corners of the empire would congregate. This vast site merits at least a couple of hours to explore the ruins and bas reliefs.
SCENERY
But it's not only about the cities and ancient sites, the scenery of Iran is an unexpected highlight. From beautiful picnic spots such as the Murgon Waterfalls, to fertile valleys in the Bavanat Mountains, where you can encounter Kashqai nomads and see a way of life that has changed little over centuries. In the Dena mountains around Yasuj you'll find an alpine scenery of snow-capped mountains, lakes and streams. It is well worth spending some time away from the better-known cultural sites to explore this lesser-known side of Iran. It really is a beautiful country.
THE PEOPLE
The people of Iran are another real highlight, being welcoming and keen to engage in conversation about everything from politics to football. You are likely to be surrounded by schoolkids asking you questions, offered tea and invited to share in picnics with the locals pretty much wherever you go.
If ever a people were misrepresented by a regime it would be the Iranians. Thanks to a baby boom in the 80's, over 60% of its 70 million population are aged under 30. This generation is well-educated, worldly, and exposed to global media through the internet. Walking around the streets -- which are incidentally very safe - this certainly feels like a nation on the cusp of change.
So forget about any preconceptions you may have about safety, security, or the welcome you'll receive in Iran. I've found the people to be the friendliest and most hospitable I've found anywhere in the world. So check out Wild Frontiers' tours to Iran and discover for yourself this fascinating country.

When it comes to Tehran, it's impossible to avoid politics and easy to overlook the Iranian city's thriving culinary scene. In our first installment of The MUNCHIES Guide to Tehran, our host Gelareh Kiazand introduces us to the bustling street food offerings in the city.
We begin our journey at the capital city's Grand Bazaar, since that's where commodities first arrive. Gelareh beelines for the market's food stands, where she samples dried fruits and nuts while waiting out the line at Moslem Restaurant, frequented by up to 5,000 kebab connoisseurs daily—well worth it for her favorite tah chin. At the more modest and bygone Tajrish Bazaar, she's the proverbial kid in a candy store, wading through copper and carpet vendors in search of sweet snacks, such as grape molasses and lavasak (fruit leather).

Travel video about destination Kerman in Iran.
Kerman is one of many ancient cities in today's Iran and is located on a plateau at the edge of the Lut Desert on an important caravan route. Ardashir, ruler of the Sassanids, founded the city, and its Friday Mosque was built during Mongolian rule. Following Islamic conquest, the city had many rulers. After Teheran and Yazd, Kerman has the third largest community of followers of the teachings of Zarathustra. The Ganj Ali-Khan Mosque is a small mosque that was named after the Safavid governor who ruled the city in the seventeenth century. The huge Vakil, or Regent Bazaar, has a seven hundred and fifty metre covered main alley that is always full of life. At any time of day almost everything can be purchased here under its brick vaults sheltered from the intense desert heat. In semi-darkness the ceilings of the bazaar streets contain an array of intriguing architectural designs and amazing ornaments. The centre of Kerman exudes its historic past as well as its former prosperity.

Travel video about destination Yazd in Iran.
The ancient desert city of Yazd is located within the centre of the State Of Iran and is one of the country’s oldest cities, set like a string of pearls along the Kavir coast. It is also a centre for the followers of the Zarathustra faith, the pious predecessors of Islam who fled to the city to escape Arab persecution. A small square is situated in the middle of the Old Town district of Fahadan, flanked by historic buildings such as a prison where, according to legend, Alexander The Great held captive various Achaemenid dignitaries and which was later used as a school. The narrow streets of the historic Old Town mainly consist of mud-built buildings with partially covered corridors, domes and numerous wind towers. The maze of narrow streets in which several single-storey buildings are still inhabited has been designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. The city’s largest water storage tank is dominated by six wind towers that capture the slightest breeze that in turn cool down the stored water. Nearby, Agh-E-Dolat A-Bad, the magnificent palace residence of Mohamma Taqui Khan Bafqi who was Governor of Yazd from 1747 A.D. Yazd is not only an ancient culture, it is also an Oriental dream!

wn.com/Yazd (Iran) Vacation Travel Video Guide

In this version, the last episode of Iran Travel Guide, Mohsen Nazaran , the host of the show traveled to Kish Island. It is part of the Hormozgan Province of Iran. Due to its free trade zone status, it is touted as a consumer's paradise, with numerous malls, shopping centres, tourist attractions, and resort hotels. Then he went to Tezerj waterfall in Hormozgan Province. Then, to The Borujerdi House, a historic house in Kashan. The house was built in 1857. It consists of a rectangular beautiful courtyard, delightful wall paintings by the royal painter Kamal-ol-molk, and three 40 meter tall wind towers which help cool the house to unusually cool temperatures. The house took eighteen years to build using 150 craftsmen. Then he went to Abyaneh, Shemshak ski resort in Tehran, Chehel Sotoun in Isfahan, the old bazzar of Isfahan and Shoormast lake in Mazandaran province.

Take a tour of Historic Abyaneh in Iran -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions series by GeoBeats.
In the mountains of Iran is a magical place where visitors can travel back in time.
The small town of Abyaneh has adhered to old, traditional ways of doing things.
The historic red clay buildings of their town climb up the slopes of Karkass Mountain.
The Abyunaki can still be seen wearing the traditional clothing of their heritage.
The village is believed to be one of the oldest in Iran.
It is impossible not to feel the awesome weight of passing years when visiting Abyaneh.

Climbing Mt. Damavand was everything we expected and more. We arrived in Iran wanting to climb this Volcano and quietly confident we would be able to reach the summit. Only after our first night at the camp did our doubts start to arise. The altitude got to us and we really struggled to sleep at night. We chose not to hire a guide after meeting some Polish guys who had just arrived back from Damavand. They assured us it was quite achievable without a guide, although i would recommend a guide for anyone who likes piece of mind. There were a few occasions on our adventure when a guide would have come in handy. But at the end of the day we made it and I’m sure anyone else could have. It was very physically demanding but in saying that, there was a group of european middle aged people doing the hike the same day as we did and some of them would have been 40-50 years old. Although they were hiking a lot slower they still reached the summit. I would recommend anyone going to Iran to at least go to the bottom of the mountain and check it out. The wild poppies are beautiful and the mountain itself is a masterpeice! Please do not hesitate to contact me for any further questions or information in regards to climbing Mount Damavand. We found it extremely hard to find good information before our climb so i will happily answer any questions to help inform anyone wishing to make the climb. Thank you Mt Damavand!

- meeting with Ali LARIJANI, Speaker of the Islamic Parliament of Iran (Majlis)
- extracts from the joint Press conference.
Martin SCHULZ, EP President (in German): "We are in an essential phase in our relationship between the EU and Iran. (...)
Now we are in the so called implementation phase and at the end of this implementation, there could be an opportunity of an open door for far reaching changes in the field of economic cooperation and trade, in the field of investment here in Iran. (...)
(On the Syrian conflict) We had agreed on one point together, at the end it is the right on self decision by a society what needs to be targeted and all such things that need to be transformed, therefore the common goal is to have free elections in Syria, but it requests a national dialogue, to make this possible is clearly the talk of all those States that can have an influence on the Syrian conflict. (...)
(On Syria) Only like this with the influence from outside and that has been one of the goals of the Vienna conference is a diplomatic solution possible. In a national wide dialogue in Syria it will be included that crimes which had been committed (in Syria) should be followed up. And a government that throws bombs on part of its own population must taken into responsibility for it. (...)"

A vast array of MPs and Peers from all major parties on October 19, 2015 took part in a conference in the House of Commons to discuss the underlying reasons for increased executions in Iran and the future consequences of the deteriorating human rights situation in that country.
A message was read out on behalf of the President-elect of Iranian Resistance Mrs. Maryam Rajavi at the conference which was attended by over two dozen Parliamentarians and legal experts and which heard also from prominent British human rights advocates and members of the Anglo-Iranian Youth Society. Cross-Party panellists called on the UK government to hold the theocratic regime in Tehran and its leaders accountable for systematic human rights abuses and sponsorship of terrorism.
Speakers strongly condemned the regime's use of the Death Penalty including the execution of juvenile offenders to spread fear in society. Warning about the alarming trend of public hangings in Iran, they expressed serious concern over recent reports that the regime's Intelligence Ministry had arrested a number of political dissidents, supporters of the main Iranian opposition group, the PMOI, family members of Camp Liberty residents and former political prisoners.
Prof. Sara Chandler, President of the Human Rights Commission of the Federation of European Bar Associations representing 800,000 lawyers in Europe, reiterated that the “UK must make tangible and concrete improvement in the human rights situation, an end to the use of death penalty and release of all political prisoners preconditions to any economic relations with Tehran.”

The Iranian parliament gave preliminary backing on Sunday (October 10) to a bill approving Tehran's nuclear agreement with world powers, with supportive voices overcoming determined opposition from conservative lawmakers.
By a vote of 139 to 100, parliament approved the first reading of a bill calling on the Tehran government to continue developing the Islamic Republic's nuclear programme in line with the July 14 deal, the state news agency IRNA reported.
The bill, proposed by parliament's national security committee, must now pass a second vote on Tuesday before being submitted to a clerical body for final approval and passage into law.
It insists that international inspections of military sites under the nuclear deal should be approved by a top Iranian security body, leaving the possibility that disagreements could still arise during the implementation phase.
The government of President Hassan Rouhani had wanted to bypass parliament entirely but Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said he wanted the legislature to review the deal, under which Iran will curb disputed aspects of its nuclear programme in exchange for a lifting of international sanctions.
As the country's highest authority, Khamenei has the final say on the agreement. He has not yet uttered a strong opinion on the agreement, waiting for other factions to reveal their positions.
Most observers say Tehran will ratify the deal, since it needs the removal of sanctions to revive its economy. But there is a risk it could fall apart in the coming months or years if either side believes the terms have been breached.
The July 14 deal opened the door to easing decades of mounting hostility between Iran and the West. Western powers suspect the programme was aimed at developing the means to build an atom bomb. Tehran says it seeks only peaceful atomic energy.
One area of disagreement cropping up since the deal concerns inspections of Iranian military sites by the International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations nuclear watchdog.
The parliamentary bill says the IAEA "will not be given access to inspect military installations or interview individuals (nuclear scientists) unless approved on a case by case basis by the National Security Council".
Western diplomats said last month that IAEA inspectors, tasked with verifying member states are not developing nuclear energy for weapons purposes, will have access to military sites where Iranian technicians are taking swipe samples.
The bill also requires the government to suspend its measures limiting Iran's nuclear programme under the agreement if any sanctions are re-imposed on the Islamic Republic.
The Islamic Republic is required to give the IAEA enough information about its past nuclear activity to allow the Vienna-based watchdog to write a report on the issue by year-end, a step that is a precondition for significant sanctions relief.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- Iran's parliament voted Tuesday to support implementing a landmark nuclear deal struck with world powers despite hard-line attempts to derail the bill, suggesting the historic accord will be carried out. The bill will be reviewed by Iran's 12-member Guardian Council, a group of senior clerics who could return it to lawmakers for further discussion. However, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has the final say on key policies, has said it is up to the 290-seat parliament to approve or reject the deal. Signaling the nuclear deal's likely success, a spokesman for moderate President Hassan Rouhani's administration welcomed the parliament's vote and called it a "historic decision." "Members of parliament made a well-considered decision today showing they have a good understanding of the country's situation," Mohammad Bagher Nobakht said. "We hope to see acceleration in progress and development of the country from now on." The European Union's foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, who helped facilitate the nuclear talks, also praised the vote as "good news" in a message on Twitter. In the parliamentary session carried live by state radio, 161 lawmakers voted for implementing the nuclear deal, while 59 voted against it and 13 abstained. Another 17 did not vote at all, while 40 lawmakers did not attend the session. A preliminary parliamentary vote Sunday saw 139 lawmakers out of the 253 present support the outline of the bill. But despite getting more support Tuesday, hard-liners still tried to disrupt the parliament's session, shouting that Khamenei himself did not support the bill while trying to raise numerous proposals on its details. "This decision has no link to the leader!" shouted Mahdi Kouchakzadeh, a hard-line lawmaker who rushed toward the front of parliament to yell at speaker Ali Larijani. "It is a decision by Larijani and we oppose it!" The semi-official Fars news agency reported that Ali Aghar Zarei, another hard-line lawmaker, broke down weeping after the vote. Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who led Iran's nuclear negotiation team, left the session when it grew tense, the state-run IRNA news agency said. The bill grants responsibility for implementing the deal to Iran's Supreme National Security Council, the top security body of the country, which Rouhani heads. It allows Iran to withdraw from the agreement if world powers do not lift sanctions, impose new sanctions or restore previous ones. "The government is obligated to stop its voluntary cooperation if the other side fails to remain committed," the bill says. The bill also requires the Iranian government to work toward the nuclear disarmament of Israel, which has the region's sole, if undeclared, nuclear arsenal. The bill also says the government should take "necessary measures" to prevent the U.S. and the West from penetrating the country through the deal, a worry mentioned by Khamenei himself in recent weeks. Hard-liners had hoped to stall the deal in order to weaken Rouhani's moderate administration ahead of February's parliamentary elections. But many in Iran applauded the final nuclear deal, struck July 14 in Vienna, as it would lift crippling economic sanctions in exchange for limits on the nuclear program. The U.N. Security Council previously approved the deal on July 20 and the U.S. Congress blocked efforts by Republicans to derail the accord in September. That left Iran to approve the deal, which came after nearly two years of negotiations between it and the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany. It was not immediately clear Tuesday when the Guardian Council would issue its own decision. However, it usually approves bills in a short span after a decision by parliament. While Khamenei himself has neither supported nor rejected the deal in public, he frequently praised Iran's negotiators during the talks. Saeed Leilaz, a Tehran-based political analyst, told The Associated Press that he believed the Guardian Council would approve the bill. He dismissed the hard-liner anger as a "domestic maneuver" ahead of the February election. "The entire system has been supporting the deal," Leilaz said. "The case is over. The deal should be implemented." Follow us on Twitter @Local12 and LIKE us on Facebook for updates!

"Next week will begin the time of implementation (of the nuclear deal) and the end of the 90-day deadline previously agreed (...) Once the deal is fully implemented, sa…

Mr. President, please be here at 8 am sharp; tomorrow's meeting has not been cancelled. That was the message the Iranian parliament gave Mr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the 13th of March 2012.
11 of the 79 MPs who drew up the questions for the president took back their signatures in the 11th hour. In the days leading up to the questioning, the parliament's pro-Ahmadinejad members said they wouldn't be at the meeting, hoping to delegitimize the proceedings.
At 8 am on the 14th of March 90 chairs stood empty. That was enough for a point to be made, but not enough to derail the meeting. This was the parliament's 12th attempt to make this happen.
All previous attempts failed for various reasons. One reason why some say the president shouldn't face questioning is because it would be the first time the parliament has summoned any president for this reason.
Ahmadinejad is known for many things. Among his fans he's a man of the people, who has served the nation well. During his two terms he's traveled the length of breadth of the country, helping deprived areas and gaining a lot of support consequently. Some say such a president, shouldn't be the first to be questioned by parliament in this way.
But not all Ahmadinejad's actions have been hailed by all and sundry. His financial decisions and his behavior on the political scene have caused outcry in parliament, the home of the people's representatives. The fact that a principlist president, is being called into question by a predominantly principlist parliament speaks volumes in itself.
On the 14th of March, the president entered the parliament for questioning, along with 8 of his cabinet ministers. His answers, if deemed unsatisfactory, could lead to his impeachment.
In this edition of the show we'll be telling you what transpired in that question session.

October 2013 Israel Netanyahu full speech Pleading to UN to stop Iran nuclear program went on deaf ears
Netanyahu asks - Why would a country that claims to only want peaceful nuclear energy, why would such a country build hidden underground enrichment facilities?
Why would a country with vast natural energy reserves invest $$$billions in developing nuclear energy?
Why would a country intent on merely civilian nuclear programs continue to defy multiple Security Council resolutions and incur the tremendous cost of crippling sanctions on its economy?
And why would a country with a peaceful nuclear program develop intercontinental ballistic missiles, whose sole purpose is to deliver nuclear warheads? You don't build ICBMs to carry TNT thousands of miles away; you build them for one purpose, to carry nuclear warheads.
Why would they do all this? The answer is simple. Iran is not building a peaceful nuclear program; Iran is developing NUCLEAR WEAPONS.
Last year alone, Iran enriched three tons of uranium to 3 1/2 percent, doubled it stockpile of 20 percent enriched uranium and ILLEGALLY added thousands of new centrifuges, including advanced centrifuges. It also continued work on the heavy water reactor in Iraq (Inside Iran name happens to be Iraq) that's in order to have another route to the bomb a plutonium path.
And since Rouhani's election — and I stress this — this vast and feverish effort has continued unabated.
Ladies and gentlemen, underground nuclear facilities, heavy water reactors, advanced centrifuges, ICBMs. See, it's not that it's hard to find evidence that Iran has a nuclear program, a nuclear weapons program; it's hard to find evidence that Iran doesn't have a nuclear weapons program http://www.timesofisrael.com/full-text-netanyahus-2013-speech-to-the-un-general-assembly/
October 2013 Netanyahu to Rebut Iran 'Sweet-Talk' in Speech to UN (went on deaf ears 2 months later (NOW) Iran has Nuclear Program deal)
Israel's prime minister and his allies expressed concern that President Barack Obama's phone call with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani may signal that efforts to halt Iran's nuclear program will stall.
"I will tell the truth in the face of the sweet-talk and onslaught of smiles," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told reporters as he boarded his plane for the U.S., where he will meet Obama and speak before the United Nations. Netanyahu landed in New York early today and will visit the White House tomorrow.
The Israeli leaders spoke after the historic call between Rouhani and Obama, the highest-level USA Iranian encounter since before Iran's Islamic revolution of 1979. Netanyahu has expressed skepticism about the motives behind Rouhani's initiative and suggested Iran is trying to buy time to develop the capability to make a nuclear weapon. Iran says its nuclear program is for civilian needs such as electricity.
"Every attempt to enforce UN resolutions on Iran to show transparency and offer proof that they have no plans for a nuclear arms program has failed until now," said Tzachi Hanegbi, head of the Israeli parliament's House committee and a member of Netanyahu's Likud party.
"The Iranian nuclear program is at a critical point," he said, calling for tougher sanctions. "We don't want the Americans to waste this critical year with worthless talk."
Atomic Weapons
Netanyahu has laid out four specific conditions Iran must agree to before the U.S. and Europe lift sanctions: halting all uranium enrichment, removing all enriched material, closing the reactor at Fordo, near the city of Qom, and stopping plutonium production.
"Rouhani's assault of reconciliation is only another deceitful trick," Avigdor Liberman, former foreign minister and head of parliament's foreign affairs and defense committee, said in comments posted on his Facebook page.
"Everyone should remember that in the 1980s it was only Israel that warned about the Iraqi reactor, then acted and was proved right," he said, referring to Israel's bombing of the Iraqi nuclear facility in 1981 http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-09-29/israelis-raise-iran-concerns-as-netanyahu-heads-to-u-s-.html
