The Battle of Berlin, designated the Berlin Strategic Offensive Operation by the Soviet Union, was the final major offensive of the European Theatre of World War II.
Starting on 16 April 1945, the Red Army breached the German front as a result of the Vistula--Oder Offensive and advanced westward as much as 40 kilometres a day through East Prussia, Lower Silesia, East Pomerania, and Upper Silesia, temporarily halting on a line 60 kilometres east of Berlin along the Oder River. When the offensive resumed, two Soviet fronts (army groups) attacked Berlin from the east and south, while a third overran German forces positioned north of Berlin. The Battle in Berlin lasted from 20 April 1945 until the morning of 2 May.
The first defensive preparations at the outskirts of Berlin were made on 20 March, when the newly appointed commander of Army Group Vistula, General Gotthard Heinrici, correctly anticipated that the main Soviet thrust would be made over the Oder River. Before the main battle in Berlin commenced, the Soviets managed to encircle the city as a result of their success in the battles of the Seelow Heights and Halbe. During 20 April 1945, the 1st Belorussian Front led by Marshal Georgy Zhukov started shelling Berlin's city centre, while Marshal Ivan Konev's 1st Ukrainian Front had pushed in the north through the last formations of Army Group Centre. This is my first video creation. It shows the hopelessness of the final days. The Wehrmacht is clearly on its last legs & the battles along the Oder-Neisse were futile & pointless. STuGs are the only armoured vehicles seen.
Nonetheless the Wehrmacht fought well as always, under the astute leadership of Col-General Gotthard Heinrici. Heinrici was probably the finest defensive tactician of the war. The unit we see is not regular Whermacht but is a Naval unit acting as Infantry. Most of the young soldiers you see probably died in the days after 16 April 1945.
The music, "Cotabato" is by Asin and is particularly fitting since it deals with the (endless) civil war in poor Mindanao. This is a not-for-profit channel but if you have any copyright concern, please message me for prompt attention. Thankyou

Gotthard Heinrici (25 December 1886 – 13 December 1971) was a general in the German Army during World War II. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords (German: Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes mit Eichenlaub und Schwertern). The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross and its higher grade Oak Leaves and Swords was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. He was considered in the Wehrmacht as the number one greatest defensive tactician in the German Army. This led to his final assignment as Commander-in-Chief of the last remaining forces of Army Group Vistula (final remnants of Army Group Center) in front of Berlin in April 1945. Author Cornelius Ryan's book "The Last Battle" centers around General Heinrici and his final days in the Battle of Berlin.

• The Battle of Berlin, designated the Berlin Strategic Offensive Operation by the Soviet Union, was the final major offensive of the European theatre of World War II. The first defensive preparations at the outskirts of Berlin were made on 20 March, when the newly appointed commander of Army Group Vistula, General Gotthard Heinrici, correctly anticipated that the main Soviet thrust would be made over the Oder River. Before the main battle in Berlin commenced, the Soviets managed to encircle the city as a result of their success in the battles of the Seelow Heights and Halbe. During 20 April 1945, the 1st Belorussian Front led by Marshal Georgy Zhukov started shelling Berlin's city centre, while Marshal Ivan Konev's 1st Ukrainian Front had pushed from the south through the last formations of Army Group Centre. The German defences were mainly led by Helmuth Weidling and consisted of several depleted, badly equipped, and disorganised Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS divisions, the latter of which included many SS foreign volunteers, as well as poorly trained Volkssturm and Hitler Youth members. Within the next few days, the Soviets rapidly advanced through the city and reached the city centre where close-quarters combat raged. Before the battle was over, German Führer Adolf Hitler and a number of his followers committed suicide. The city's defenders finally surrendered on 2 May; however, fighting continued to the north-west, west, and south-west of the city until the end of the war in Europe on 8 May (9 May in the Soviet Union) as German units fought westward so that they could surrender to the Western Allies rather than to the Soviets. -

The Battle of Berlin, designated the Berlin Strategic Offensive Operation by the Soviet Union, was the final major offensive of the European Theatre of World War II. Starting on 16 April 1945, the Red Army breached the German front as a result of the Vistula--Oder Offensive and advanced westward as much as 40 kilometres a day through East Prussia, Lower Silesia, East Pomerania, and Upper Silesia, temporarily halting on a line 60 kilometres east of Berlin along the Oder River. When the offensive resumed, two Soviet fronts (army groups) attacked Berlin from the east and south, while a third overran German forces positioned north of Berlin. 1945 Oder Front - Deutsche Wochenschau Newsreel
This is my first video creation. It shows the hopelessness of the final days. The Wehrmacht is clearly on its last legs & the battles along the Oder-Neisse were futile & pointless. STuGs are the only armoured vehicles seen. Nonetheless the Wehrmacht fought well as always, under the astute leadership of Col-General Gotthard Heinrici. Heinrici was probably the finest defensive tactician of the war. The unit we see is not regular Whermacht but is a Naval unit acting as Infantry. Most of the young soldiers you see probably died in the days after 16 April 1945. The music, "Cotabato" is by Asin and is particularly fitting since it deals with the (endless) civil war in poor Mindanao. Am Standort des heutigen Schlosses befand sich schon im 16. Jahrhundert eine Mühle, die wahrscheinlich dem Zisterzienserkloster gehörte, das seit dem 14./15. Jahrhundert im Besitz der Ländereien dieser Gegend war. Beim Bau einer neuen Mühle Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts stießen die Bauleute auf Mühlsteine jener Zeit, die Spuren eines Brandes trugen. This is my first video creation. It shows the hopelessness of the final days. The Wehrmacht is clearly on its last legs & the battles along the Oder-Neisse were futile & pointless. STuGs are the only armoured vehicles seen.
Nonetheless the Wehrmacht fought well as always, under the astute leadership of Col-General Gotthard Heinrici. Heinrici was probably the finest defensive tactician of the war. The unit we see is not regular Whermacht but is a Naval unit acting as Infantry. Most of the young soldiers you see probably died in the days after 16 April 1945.

This is my first video creation. It shows the hopelessness of the final days. The Wehrmacht is clearly on its last legs & the battles along the Oder-Neisse were futile & pointless. STuGs are the only armoured vehicles seen.
Nonetheless the Wehrmacht fought well as always, under the astute leadership of Col-General Gotthard Heinrici. Heinrici was probably the finest defensive tactician of the war. The unit we see is not regular Whermacht but is a Naval unit acting as Infantry. Most of the young soldiers you see probably died in the days after 16 April 1945.

The German defences were mainly led by Helmuth Weidling and consisted of several depleted, badly equipped, and disorganised Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS divisions, as well as many Volkssturm and Hitler Youth members. Within the next days, the Soviets were rapidly advancing through the city and were reaching the city centre, conquering the Reichstag on 30 April after fierce fighting.
Before the battle was over, German Führer Adolf Hitler and many of his followers committed suicide. The city's defenders finally surrendered on 2 May. However, fighting continued to the north-west, west and south-west of the city until the end of the war in Europe on 8 May (9 May in the Soviet Union) as German units fought westward so that they could surrender to the Western Allies rather than to the Soviets.

Am Standort des heutigen Schlosses befand sich schon im 16. Jahrhundert eine Mühle, die wahrscheinlich dem Zisterzienserkloster gehörte, das seit dem 14./15. Jahrhundert im Besitz der Ländereien dieser Gegend war. Beim Bau einer neuen Mühle Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts stießen die Bauleute auf Mühlsteine jener Zeit, die Spuren eines Brandes trugen. Um das Jahr 1650 befand sich an Stelle der Zisterziensermühle ein im Auftrag des Großen Kurfürsten Friedrich Wilhelm errichtetes Jagdhaus.Das Gelände der früheren Mühle wurde 1755 von dem Berliner Lederfabrikanten Peter Friedrich Damm erworben, der das Alleinrecht besaß, die königlich preußische Armee mit Uniformteilen aus Sämischleder zu versorgen. Er errichtete das Gebäude des Schlosses 1768 als zweigeschossiges Palais in einem Waldstück .Entsprechend der Mode der Rokoko-Zeit besaß das Schloss im Obergeschoss einen Theatersaal. Nach dem Tod Damms verfiel das Gebäude, weil es keinen Erben gab. Bei einer Zwangsversteigerung 1894 erwarb Leutnant Adolf Wollank das Anwesen und baute es zu einem Herrensitz aus. Er ließ das Gebäude vom Architekturbüro Erdmann & Spindler aus Berlin in neobarockem Stil umbauen, aufstocken, mit einem Anbau versehen und einen Turm mit Zwiebelhaube hinzufügen.Auf einer künstlichen Insel im Mühlteich ließ er ein Gebäude in Gestalt einer Moschee errichten, in dessen Inneren sich ein großer Tanzsaal befand.
Nach dem Tod Adolf Wollanks am 27. April 1915 verwaltete sein Bruder Otto das Schloss. Adolf Wollank wurde auf dem Gelände des Schlosses in dem von ihm in Auftrag gegebenen Hubertuspavillon gegenüber dem Schlossgebäude beigesetzt. Der Pavillon ist heute nicht mehr vorhanden.Zehn Jahre später, im Jahre 1929 erwarb der Brite Harry Goodwin Hart, damals Direktor von Unilever, das Grundstück. Nachdem Hart mit seiner jüdischen Frau Deutschland im Jahre 1938 verlassen musste, wurde er 1940 enteignet. Nun gelangte das Schloss in den Besitz von Heinrich Himmler. Kurz vor Kriegsende schlug hier der Kommandeur der Berlin verteidigenden Wehrmachts-Heeresgruppe „Weichsel“, Generaloberst Gotthard Heinrici, sein Hauptquartier auf.Nach dem Kriegsende 1945 wurde es von der Roten Armee besetzt. 1959 übernahm das Ministerium für Staatssicherheit der DDR das Haus und nutzte es bis 1989 als Jagdschloss.
