Jack Norworth (January 5, 1879 – September 1, 1959) was a U.S. songwriter, singer and vaudeville performer.
Biography
Norworth is credited as co-writer of a number of Tin Pan Alley hits. He wrote the lyrics to "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" (music by Albert Von Tilzer) in 1908, his most long lasting hit. It wasn't until 1940 that he witnessed a Major League Baseball game.
His "Shine On, Harvest Moon" was a bigger hit at the time. There is some disagreement about his involvement in its creation. Broadway historian John Kenrick credits Edward Madden and Gus Edwards, while the family of Follies songwriter Dave Stamper claims he wrote the song while working as pianist for Nora Bayes, who is the officially credited co-writer with Norworth. Another possibility for the music could lie with George Gershwin, who was also a piano player for this vaudeville troup. Albert Koch,of Wisconsin,also an accomplished songwriter,claims to have written the song himself, and sold it outright for $50, forfeiting the rights to the song.

Nora Bayes
Nora Bayes (October 8, 1880 – March 19, 1928) was a popular American singer, comedienne and actress of the early 20th century.
Early life and career
Born Eleanor "Dora" Goldberg, with Dora being a pet or nickname, to a Jewish family in Joliet, Illinois, Bayes was performing professionally in vaudeville in Chicago by age 18. She toured from San Francisco, California to New York City and became a star both on the vaudeville circuit and the Broadway stage.
In 1908, she married singer-songwriter Jack Norworth. The two toured together and were credited for collaborating on a number of compositions, including the immensely popular "Shine On, Harvest Moon," which the pair debuted in Florenz Ziegfeld's Follies of 1908. Bayes and Norworth divorced in 1913.
After America entered World War I Bayes became involved with morale boosting activities. George M. Cohan asked that she be the first to record a performance of his patriotic song "Over There". Her recording was released in 1917 and became an international hit. She also performed shows for the soldiers. In 1919, she recorded "How Ya Gonna Keep 'em Down on the Farm (After They've Seen Paree)?" for Columbia which became a hit for that year.

Full moon
A full moon is the lunar phase that occurs when the Moon is completely illuminated as seen from the Earth. This occurs when the moon is in opposition to the Sun (when it is on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun; more precisely, when the ecliptic longitudes of the Sun and Moon differ by 180 degrees). This means that the hemisphere of the Moon that is facing the Earth (the near side) is almost fully illuminated by the Sun and appears round (while the far side is almost completely unilluminated).
Lunar eclipses can occur only at full moon, where the Moon's orbit allows it to pass through the Earth's shadow. Lunar eclipses do not occur every month because the Moon usually passes above or below the Earth's shadow (which is mostly restricted to the ecliptic plane). Lunar eclipses can occur only when the full moon occurs near the two nodes of the orbit, either the ascending or descending node. This causes eclipses to only occur about every 6 months, and often 2 weeks before or after a solar eclipse at new moon at the opposite node.

I love the tunes of the late 1800's and early 1900's. Tin Pan Alley, Ragtime, Jazz, Blues. This song was written by Nora Bayes and Jack Norworth in 1908. I thought I'd experiment with this first video giving it a cartoon effect. My vocals and playing are a little ragged but I hope you don't mind.

Here from late August of 1908 here is the very first recorded version of the famous Baseball Classic. This is the Columbia Record Rendition of "Take Me out to the Ball Game" Words by Jack Norworth and Music by Albert Von Tilzer, sung by Harvey Hindermeyer. The Record is a Columbia "Client" label, Standard Disc Record. The Standard Disc Record was rather unique in that it had an oversized Spindle Hole, much larger then regular Disc Records. The Theory being that if you bought A Standard Disc. Talking Machine with a larger spindle, you would be locked into buying only Standard Disc Records with the larger spindle hole to fit the machine. There were several other client disc. Companies that shared that same concept and marketing ploy, including Harmony, United and Aretino among others.

Redbone's debut album, Off The Track, was released in 1975 and he soon gained a cult following through numerous television appearances, including a recurring musical guest spot on the up and coming NBC comedy show Saturday Night Live.
Opening for Randy Newman at the Lincoln Auditorium on the campus of New Jersey's Camden County College, this recording captures Leon Redbone early on, performing a wide range of vintage American music. With an unerring sense of authenticity, Redbone blends skillful instrumental and vocal performances, peppered with a subtle humor uniquely his own. His set primarily focuses on material from his debut album and its follow-up Double Time, but also features several songs not featured on those first two albums, including two classics that he often performed but chose not to release.
The set kicks off with the rarest of material, beginning with "I Aint Got Nobody," a highlight of the rare and long out-of-print live album he released nearly a decade later. Redbone's sense of humor and his bluesy authenticity shines through on the Reverend Gary Davis number "She Wouldn't Say Quit" and the jug band classic "Has Anybody Seen My Gal," a song first recorded by the California Ramblers in 1925. Neither of these songs appeared on Redbone's albums, making them a welcome presence here.
A pair of tracks that Redbone would soon record for his 1977 Double Time album follow, with the Jack Norworth/Nora Bayes penned standard, "Shine On Harvest Moon" and the equally vintage "The Shiek Of Araby." He then continues with two of the most intriguing tracks from On The Track, with Jimmie Rogers "Desert Blues (Big Chief Buffalo Nickel)" and Irving Berlin's "My Walking Stick." He closes the set with Blind Blake's traditional arrangement of "Diddy Wa Diddie," which would also soon surface on Double Time. This recording concludes with a sneak preview of the title track to his third album, Champagne Charlie, before Redbone bids the audience farewell by tipping his hat and turning the stage over to Randy Newman.

Cracker Jack is a U.S. brand of snack consisting of caramel-coated popcorn and peanuts, well known for being packaged with a prize of nominal value inside. Some food historians consider it the first junk food.
Frederick William Rueckheim and his brother Louis mass-produced Cracker Jack and sold it at the first Chicago World's Fair in 1893. At the time, it was a mixture of popcorn, molasses, and peanuts and was called "Candied Popcorn and Peanuts".
Rueckheim devised a way to keep the popcorn kernels separate in 1896. As each batch was mixed in a cement-mixer-like drum, a small quantity of oil was added — a closely-guarded trade secret. Before this change, the mixture had been difficult to handle as it stuck together in chunks. In 1896, the first lot of Cracker Jack was produced. It was named by an enthusiastic sampler who remarked, "That's crackerjack!" (a colloquialism meaning "of excellent quality").
In 1899, Henry Gottlieb Eckstein developed the "waxed sealed package" for freshness, known then as the "Eckstein Triple Proof Package," a dust, germ and moisture-proof paper package. In 1902, the company was re-organized as Rueckheim Bros. & Eckstein.
Take Me Out to the Ball Game, the song written by lyricist Jack Norworth and set to music by Albert Von Tilzer gave Cracker Jack free publicity when it was released in 1908 with the line "buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack!"
Prizes were included in every box of Cracker Jack beginning in 1912. The prizes attained pop-culture status with the term "came in a Cracker Jack box," referring to an object of limited value. In recent years, the toy and trinket prizes have been replaced with paper prizes displaying riddles and jokes.
Mascots Sailor Jack and his dog, Bingo, were introduced in 1918 and registered as a trademark in 1919. Sailor Jack was modeled after Robert Rueckheim, grandson of F.W. Rueckheim, the German immigrant who invented the popcorn-peanuts-and-molasses snack, in 1872. Robert died of pneumonia shortly after his image appeared at the age of 8. The sailor boy image acquired such meaning for the founder of Cracker Jack that he had it carved on his tombstone, which can still be seen in St. Henry's Cemetery,Chicago. On top of that, if pedestrians were scattered throughout the game world, just like in a GTA game, then the rating for this game would have to go up, too. Norworth wrote an alternative version of the song in 1927. (Norworth and Bayes were famous for writing and performing such smash hits as "Shine On, Harvest Moon".) The Haydn Quartet singing group, led by popular tenor Harry MacDonough, recorded a successful version on Victor Records.
Contrary to some sources, Billy Murray, although a fan of baseball in general and the New York Giants in particular, never recorded a version of the song. One of the well-known quartets, whose sessions frequently included Murray, did record the song, but without Murray, leading to some confusion in some of the record catalogues. The confusion, nonetheless, is so pervasive that, when "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" was selected by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Recording Industry Association of America as one of the 365 top "Songs of the Century", the song was credited to Billy Murray, implying his recording of it as having received the most votes among songs from the first decade. The first recorded version was by Edward Meeker. Meeker's recording was selected by the Library of Congress as a 2010 addition to the National Recording Registry, which selects recordings annually that are "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

"Shine on, Harvest Moon" is a popular early-1900s song credited to the married vaudeville team Nora Bayes and Jack Norworth. It was one of a series of Moon-related Tin Pan Alley songs of the era. The song was debuted by Bayes and Norworth in the Ziegfeld Follies of 1908 to great acclaim. It became a pop standard, and continues to be performed and recorded even in the 21st century.
During the vaudeville era, songs were often sold outright, and the purchaser would be credited as the songwriter. John Kenrick's Who's Who In Musicals credits the song's actual writers as Edward Madden and Gus Edwards. However, David Ewen's All the Years of American Popular Music credits Dave Stamper, who contributed songs to 21 editions of the Ziegfeld Follies and was Bayes' pianist from 1903 to 1908.[1] Vaudeville comic Eddie Cantor also credited Stamper in his 1934 book Ziegfeld - The Great Glorifier.
