Looking at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the launch of free WiFi in Kolkata's Park Street last evening, you wouldn't think so. But yesterday was black Thursday for her party. First, its MP Srinjoy Bose, quit the Rajya Sabha and the Trinamool. Significantly, Mr Bose had got bail on Wednesday, 75 days after being arrested in the Saradha scam. A student was beaten to death in a college in Sabang, West Midnapore, by alleged Trinamool Congress supporters when he refused to follow their order to felicitate a state minister on Friday morning. The murder is a fall-out of Trinamool muscle-flexing to gain control of campuses across Bengal, prompting the Left Front and Congress to call for statewide protests on Saturday. CM Mamata Banerjee joined the chorus of condemnation but said Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) wasn't involved. She blamed Chhatra Parishad (CP), student wing of Congress, for locking up the principal. Education minister Partha Chatterjee said he was "shocked and pained" but called the victim, Krishna Prasad Jana, an outsider and wondered what he was doing in the college. Around 1.30pm, TMCP supporters and outsiders barged into Sabang Sajanikanta Mahavidyalaya, where CP controls the students' union. Shouting "TMCP zindabad", they entered the union room and demanded that all CP supporters come out to greet Trinamool minister Soumen Mahapatra, who was touring flood-hit Sabang. CP supporters opposed this. Krishna was among the most vocal. "Why should we go just because your minister is visiting our area?" Krishna told TMCP members. Some youths armed with sticks and iron rods pounced on Krishna and dragged him out. He was beaten in front of the library, as students watched in horror. Soumen Ganguly and Saugam Sen of CP tried to save Krishna but they were beaten, too. Some TMCP men allegedly locked the union room from outside and continued bludgeoning Krishna. When he started bleeding from his head, nose and mouth, the attackers fled. CP supporters scrambled to take Krishna to hospital but a college teacher refused to lend them his car, Sen alleged. They put Krishna on a bike and took him to hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Mamata Banerjee blamed Congress for blocking access to the victim. "From what I have heard, the union room was locked from inside while the principal was locked in his office from outside. A clash broke out inside the union room and there was no way the principal could get out to prevent the attackers from beating the victim," Mamata said.

For Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress, a black thursday
Looking at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the launch of free WiFi in Kolkata's Park Street last evening, you wouldn't think so. But yesterday was black Thursday for her party. First, its MP Srinjoy Bose, quit the Rajya Sabha and the Trinamool. Significantly, Mr Bose had got bail on Wednesday, 75 days after being arrested in the Saradha scam. Trinamool responded by saying Mr Bose was under pressure from the power at the Centre.

The Newshour Debate: Chitgate Bomb - Full Debate (12th September 2014)
Amidst high drama, suspended Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh dragged the name of senior West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee in a court hearing the Saradha chit fund scam case and withdrew his lawyer from holding his brief. Taking out a piece of paper in the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Arvind Mishra, where he was produced by CBI seeking his judicial custody, Ghosh, arrested in Saradha chit fund scam case, said some chit fund companies were still collecting money from the public. He claimed chit fund companies were also sponsoring an event of which former Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee was the chairman. Chatterjee is now Higher Education Minister. When Ghosh wanted to submit the piece of paper he claimed to have got in the court lockup from a person he did not name, the judge refused to accept it. The paper looked like a leaflet. Ghosh named Chatterjee days after creating a flutter on Saturday last when he had told the court that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee be interviewed by CBI along with Saradha Group chairman Sudipta Sen and himself. On being produced before the judge today, Ghosh said he wanted to say something but the court did not allow it andsaid as he had given his lawyer the authority to speak for him and he could not make any submission unless he withdrew the power given to his counsel. Ghosh immediately wrote on a piece of paper that he was withdrawing the power given to his lawyer. He then pleaded for either bail or CBI custody to 'assist' the agency in its Saradha chit fund scam probe. Metropolitan magistrate Arvind Mishra rejected his prayers and remanded Ghosh to judicial custody till September 18, as prayed for by CBI. The judge also asked him not to make any statement regarding anything other than his own case. Ghosh told the court that other chit fund companies be also probed along with Saradha by CBI and that those involved in these should also be arrested.
In a debate moderated by TIMES NOW's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, panelists -- Ritabrata Banerjee, MP, Rajya Sabha, CPI (M); Saugata Roy, MP Lok Sabha TMC -- discuss whether the TMC is trying to shield its top brass by denying Kunal Ghosh an audience with the media.

Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Monday (November 24) threatened to take her fight against BJP to Delhi, saying she would politically retaliate against her party's name being dragged into the Saradha scam. She also attacked the BJP on the issue of bringing back black money to the country, threatening to tear off its 'mask'. "We have tolerated enough and are forced to take to the streets. Lies are being spread about us. But Bengal's soil is so strong that if a sapling is sowed here, the tree will grow in Delhi," Banerjee said at the end of a rally held to protest against alleged CBI harassment of people in connection with the Saradha scam. TMC Rajya Sabha MP Srinjay Bose was arrested by the CBI in the Saradha case on Friday. "I generally don't hold meetings blocking roads, but we had to do this one and if necessary, we will do it again and will do it in Delhi also," Banerjee said standing on a makeshift stage at Esplanade in the heart of the city. "I don't know what you have done with others, but if you do anything wrong with Bengal, there won't be a bigger protesting voice than Bengal. You will be retaliated politically and democratically", she said. "Who has bitten them? Royal Bengal Tiger has not gone yet, it has not been released yet, then who has bitten them," she said in a sarcastic note.
Slamming BJP on the issue of bringing back black money, she asked, "Where is the black money? Bring back the black money or else we will make you sit on black chairs and tear off your masks," Banerjee said. She also claimed that "The BJP is spending thousands of crores on election campaigns. How did they get it?" she asked. Earlier, speaking at a programme at Bongaon in North 24-Paragana district, she alleged, "There is a conspiracy going on against us. Let them do it. I will show them that no amount of conspiracy can thwart us from carrying out development work in the state". "By hatching conspiracy they cannot emerge successful as we work for the people," she said. "Why are you trying to taint the whole party or the government for the reason of one or two outsiders?" the TMC supremo asked the BJP leadership. Without naming Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Banerjee said, "Six months in power, most of which are spent in foreign land, has he forgotten the country? Country is in selfies, and he is in foreign countries to sell off the country." "100 per cent of railways, insurance, retail market, and even humans, pension and defence are being sold off," she alleged.
In a debate moderated by TIMES NOW's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, panelists -- GVL Narasimha Rao, National Spokesperson and Member Electoral Reforms, BJP; Tathagata Roy, Member, National Executive, BJP; Ritabrata Banerjee, MP, Rajya Sabha, CPI (M); Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, MP, Lok Sabha, TMC and Dr. Tasleem Ahmed Rehmani, President, Muslim Political Council of India -- discuss whether politics over national security.
