Irish Times refuse right of reply to Gerry Adams TD

Yes the paper of record has bombarded its readers with anti Sinn Fein articles and editorials but won't even publish a letter by Gerry Adams in response.

What happened to its famed Right of Reply Policy?

I'm sure that Indymedia and its readers/supporters will be appalled by this censorship. Here is the letter by Gerry Adams: read full story / add a comment

President OF THE IRISH REPUBLIC TO THE PEOPLE OF IRELAND

IRISHLADS AND IRISHLADIES: In the name of O’Brien, Martin-Murphy, Esat Digifone, the Dublin United Tramways Company, and of the dead executionerins who met with unhappy accidents on their way to midday Mass, from whom she receives her old tradition of being neither this nor that.

Having patiently perfected her zeal, having waited, resolutely as a cat bound and gagged all night in the outhouse, for the right moment to reveal herself on Facebook, she now seizes this moment, with her one good typing hand, supported by all her children who thankfully went away and quietly died in flats above chip shops at Cricklewood, and by gallant allies first in London, and now, Berlin, but relying in the first instance on her own weakness, she strikes in full confidence of her ongoing defeat. read full story / add a comment

Whatever one personally thinks of marriage, just like religion, it should be consigned to the private sphere: I). on philosophical grounds; and ii). because State support for marriage directly contributes to inequality of the treatment of families, and directly discriminates against unmarried parents and their children - regardless of whether the parents are 'straight' or same-sex. read full story / add a comment

This Morning at 6.30am we were woken from our beds.Private security working for NAMA were breaking into our homes. We live in a flourishing squatted community in Grangegorman. This space which was once disused warehouses filled with rubble, asbestos and broken glass has been turned into an inspiring and beautiful place to be.The place is coved with artwork, and the community garden has begun to blossom. We have a circus space, poetry nights, folk gigs, Art Exhibitions, Fairs and a community Kitchen.

Many Dunnes Stores wrorkers are being screwed over by the company because they are on zero-rated hours which means you don't know until each given day how many hours you will be working and it can vary alot from week to week. This means you have no idea how much you will be earning from week to week and therefore it becomes almost impossible to budget for anything, let alone pay bills, rent, food etc from one week to the next. And this practice is widespread with other employers.

On Thursday, 2nd April 2015 (Holy Thursday) Mandate members in Dunnes Stores will stage a one day strike in 107 stores across the Republic of Ireland unless senior management in the Company agree to a meeting with the workers through their trade union in order to discuss all of the issues in dispute. read full story / add a comment

There was a good turnout yesterday, Sat 21st in Dublin for the anti-water charges demonstration. The plan was for the various groups to assemble at Heuston Station, Connolly Station and Merrion Square and converge at O'Connell brigde which they did. There were groups from all over the country, from Navan to Clonakility to Galway to Dundalk as well as thousands of people from the various communities in the greater Dublin area. Thousands and thousands arrived with banners, flags and placards of all types adding a lot of colour to the demonstration clearly showing this movement is still very much alive and vibrant and gives us all hope and confidence that we can still win. read full story / add a comment

Potatoes are not only very versatile as a food in dishes, they are good for the soil and will grow in just about any soil. They dislike soggy soil though, because they do all their growing underground. Our annual potato day will again showcase how easy it is to grow potatoes as a pioneer or start-up crop for new gardeners, breaking up heavy soils and also various new ways to grow them more easily with no dig under plastic, under thick mulch and in loose, loamy soil in ridges and beds.

TDs Mick Wallace and Clare Daly are back in court in Ennis at 2pm on Tuesday March 10th as a result of their attempt to inspect a US military aircraft at Shannon Airport.

This is the second day of a case that has already heard evidence from a number of witnesses who outlined the problematic nature of the US military presence at Shannon. These witnesses included Irish Times Security Analyst Dr Tom Clonan, former UN Deputy Secretary Denis Halliday, international lawyer and neutrality expert Roberto Zamora, and Dr Edward Horgan of Shannonwatch. read full story / add a comment

The Environmental Pillar is calling on the government to strengthen the Climate Bill in light of sharp criticism for lack of action.

The Environmental Pillar, which is made up of 28 Irish environmental NGOs, is calling on TDs and Senators to amend the Climate Bill.

Today a European Commission working document was published which described Ireland’s climate change commitments as ‘insufficient’.

The EC Country Report Ireland 2015 working document states:

“No progress was made in identifying how Ireland commits itself to meeting its existing, binding climate and energy targets for the period up to 2020 in an integrated way and how best to use the earmarked, available EU support for the structural development needed in the different areas.” read full story / add a comment
