Panic has set in on China's share markets as traders call in investors' margin loans. The main index, the Shanghai Composite, is down by as much as a third from its peak in the middle of June. A new crackdown on market manipulation and mis-selling of investment products by the securities regulator has failed to stop the falls. That's prompted fears of a share market crash in China, but analysts here are playing down the risks. More

The world of Australian Rules football is in mourning today after the death of the Adelaide Crows coach Phil Walsh. Walsh was stabbed multiple times in the early hours of this morning and his 26-year-old son has been charged with murder. Players and staff have been meeting grief counsellors today and the Crows game against Geelong on Sunday has been cancelled. More

Swiss authorities have confirmed that the United States has asked it to extradite seven FIFA officials arrested on corruption charges in May. The seven top executives arrested in Zurich are among 14 FIFA officials indicted on charges of 'rampant, systemic, and deep-rooted' corruption. The officials and their lawyers have 14 days to respond to the request. Many in the Australian soccer community have welcomed the news, saying it's a huge win for those working to clean up the game. But legal experts have warned it could be years before the officials are put on trial. More

Authorities in Tunisia say they've arrested eight suspects in connection with last week's massacre by a gunman of 38 foreign tourists at the beachside resort of Sousse. Thirty of those killed have now been positively identified as British in the worst attack against British citizens since the 2005 London bombings. As more bodies of holidaymakers killed are repatriated, Britain's defence secretary is calling for airstrikes against the so-called Islamic State in Syria that's claimed responsibility for the attack. And in a bid to stop the collapse of its tourism industry, Tunisian officials have stepped up security measures in popular tourist areas. More
