Anthony Hamilton's soul sound was refined in the churches of Charlotte, N.C. Watching the Grammy winner perform, you get the hunch that it's harder for him to keep the soul inside than it is to actually unleash it. What he and his backup singers, The Hamiltones, do would be better classified as a musical purge, with a stage show that can double as couples therapy and church service. Their warm harmonies have the ability to shrink theaters and stadiums, so we knew this intimate setting was perfect for them.
Following a spot at the final In Performance show of the Obama presidency, the singer, The Hamiltones and his band made their way over to our offices to give us a dose of what's to come, as well as a heavy helping of what fans have grown to love about him. He opens the set with "Amen" — the debut single from his introspective new album, What I'm Feelin' — and followed it with three songs that have defined his career.

Amen
The word amen (/ˌɑːˈmɛn/ or /ˌeɪˈmɛn/; Hebrew: אָמֵן, Modern amen, Tiberian ʾāmēn; Greek: ἀμήν; Arabic: آمين, ʾāmīn ; "So be it; truly") is a declaration of affirmation found in the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament. It has been generally adopted in Christian worship as a concluding word for prayers and hymns. Common English translations of the word amen include "verily" and "truly". It can also be used colloquially to express strong agreement, as in, for instance, amen to that.
Pronunciation
In English, the word amen has two primary pronunciations, ah-men (/ɑːˈmɛn/) or ay-men (/eɪˈmɛn/), with minor additional variation in emphasis (the two syllables may be equally stressed instead of placing primary stress on the second). The Oxford English Dictionary gives "ɑː'mɛn, eɪ'mεn".
In anglophone North America the ah-men pronunciation is used in performances of classical music, in churches with more formalized rituals and liturgy and in liberal to mainline Protestant denominations, as well as almost every Jewish congregation, in line with modern Hebrew pronunciation. The ay-men pronunciation, a product of the Great Vowel Shift dating to the 15th century, is associated with Irish Protestantism and conservative Evangelical denominations generally, and is the pronunciation typically used in gospel music.

His father couldn't provide for their family so Tony Robbins left them. Tony Robbins's mother started abusing alcohol and prescription drugs sometime after. While growing up, Tony Robbins was a primary care-giver, and helped provide for his siblings. Tony Robbins was raised in Azusa and Glendora, California, and attended Glendora High School. Tony Robbins was elected student body president in Tony Robbins's senior year, and grew 10 inches in high school, a growth spurt later attributed to a pituitary tumor. Tony Robbins has said his home life was "chaotic" and "abusive." When Tony Robbins was 17 years old, Tony Robbins's mother chased Tony Robbins out of the house with a knife, and Tony Robbins never returned. Tony Robbins later worked as a janitor, and did not attend college.

Tony Robbins began his career promoting seminars for Jim Rohn. According to Tony Robbins, Rohn taught him that, "The secret to life is to come up with a way to add the most value -- you must find a way to do more for others than anybody else is doing. Happiness and success in life are not the result of what we have, but rather how we live and what we give."
Later, Tony Robbins began his own work as a self-help coach. Tony Robbins taught neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) and Ericksonian Hypnosis after training with NLP co-founder John Grinder. In 1983, Tony Robbins learned to firewalk from Tolly Burkan and began to incorporate it into Tony Robbins's seminars.Tony Robbins usage of board breaking, skydiving, and later firewalking in Tony Robbins's seminars is intended to help participants learn to push through their fears.
Tony Robbins promoted Tony Robbins's services as a "peak performance coach" through Tony Robbins's books and TV infomercials. Tony Robbins's first infomercial, Personal Power, was released in 1988 and produced by Guthy Renker. Early infomercials featured celebrities such as Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Fran Tarkenton and actor Martin Sheen. By 1991, an estimated 100 million Americans in 200 media markets had viewed his informercials.
In 1997, Tony Robbins began the Leadership Academy seminar.Tony Robbins is a featured speaker on the seminar circuit sponsored by Learning Annex. Tony Robbins appeared as a featured speaker at the 2007 Technology, Entertainment and Design (TED) conference. As of August 2012, Tony Robbins's talk was the sixth most popular TED talk.
Tony Robbins is involved with the Tony Robbins-Madanes Center for Strategic Intervention, which focuses on personal, family and organizational psychology, and claims to help people "find breakthrough strategies and solutions for overcoming the problems that confront us all."
In 2014, Tony Robbins along with a group investors including Magic Johnson, Mia Hamm, and Peter Guber acquired rights to launch a Major League Soccer franchise in Los Angeles, California. The soccer team is scheduled to begin competition in 2017.

The singer-actress collapsed in her Beverly Hills home and was found by her 13-year-old son Joshua, spokesman Roger Lane said. The cause of death was not immediately known.
Carter had suffered from diabetes for years, Lane said, and she underwent two brain operations in 1992 to fix aneurysms. She recovered and continued to perform, mostly on stage.
Blessed with a big voice and strong stage presence despite her 4-foot-11 height, the heavyset Carter prided herself on her range as a performer, doing musicals and drama as well as comedy.
"She was a pioneer in many ways," said fellow Tony winner Audra McDonald. "She had the ability to be such an incredible comedic musical-theater actress, blow a song all the way to the back of the wall and then come down and be so intimate and beautiful in a ballad."
In addition to her Tony for "Ain't Misbehavin,"' Carter received an Emmy in 1982 for a TV broadcast of the show, which was a revue of Fats Waller songs. Her quietly soulful number "Mean to Me" was a show highlight.
Carter garnered two more Emmy nominations in 1982 and 1983 for "Gimme a Break!," playing a housekeeper to a family headed by a widower who was the town police chief. The show ran from 1981 to 1987. In 1985, an episode was broadcast live -- the first for a situation comedy in nearly 30 years.
Carter also played the cruel orphanage operator Miss Hannigan in the 1997 revival of "Annie" and appeared in the movies "The Grass Harp" (1995), "Modern Problems" (1981) and "Hair" (1979).
Carter grew up in Birmingham, Ala., singing in her church choir. She sang on the gospel circuit before moving on to coffeehouses and nightclubs. She longed to sing opera, then aspired to be a belter.
At the time of her death, Carter was in rehearsals at a Long Beach theater for "Raisin," a musical version of "A Raisin in the Sun." That show was set to run from Feb. 7 to March 9, and is expected to continue with a replacement.
Shashin Desai, co-director of the show with his wife, Karen, said he felt like "the roof caved in" when he heard about Carter's death. "It wasn't for the money that she was doing the show, it was for the passion and love of the piece," he said.
She converted to Judaism in the early 1980s after marrying a Jewish businessman from Austria, Georg Krynicki. "I needed to know where God was, and I went back to the basics," she said of her conversion.
From early in her career until the mid-1980s, Carter struggled with alcohol and drugs, eventually shaking her addictions through a 12-step program.
Carter was married and divorced twice. She is survived by an adult daughter, Tracy, and two sons, Joshua and Daniel, both 13. " Eat your heart!! " She will truly be missed .
