"The Man" is a slang phrase that may refer to the government or to some other authority in a position of power. In addition to this derogatory connotation, it may also serve as a term of respect and praise.
The phrase "the Man is keeping me down" is commonly used to describe oppression. The phrase "stick it to the Man" encourages resistance to authority, and essentially means "fight back" or "resist", either openly or via sabotage.
The earliest recorded use[citation needed] of the term "the Man" in the American sense dates back to a letter written by a young Alexander Hamilton in September 1772, when he was 15. In a letter to his father James Hamilton, published in the Royal Dutch-American Gazette, he described the response of the Dutch governor of St. Croix to a hurricane that raked that island on August 31, 1772. "Our General has issued several very salutary and humane regulations and both in his publick and private measures, has shewn himself the Man." [dubious– discuss] In the Southern U.S. states, the phrase came to be applied to any man or any group in a position of authority, or to authority in the abstract. From about the 1950s the phrase was also an underworld code word for police, the warden of a prison or other law enforcement or penal authorities.
This is the story of two men, Andrew Carnegie and Napoleon Hill, who were determined to help make this a better world.

CARNEGIE: Self-discipline and organized thinhjng are almost synonymous terms. There can be no organized thinking without strict self-discipline, for after all, organized thought is nothing but carefully chosen thought. Thought habits can be established only through strict self-discipline. Motive, or obsessional desires, make self-discipline very easy. It is no trouble at all to form thought-habits if one has a definite motive, backed by a strong emotional desire for the attainment of the object of the motive.
HILL: Do you mean that it is easy for one to form thought habits in connection with subjects in which one has a keen personal interest?
CARNEGIE: That’s the idea. The procrastinator drifts through life, a failure, because he has no obsessional motive for doing anything in particular. His thinking is not organized because he has chosen no specific calling for organized planning.
HILL: Will you briefly describe the major benefits of organized thinking, from the viewpoint of the man who wishes to make the best use of his time and ability?
CARNEGIE: The benefits are so numerous that it is difficult to decide where to begin or where to stop, but these are some of the more obvious advantages of this habit:
(a) Organized thinking enables one to become the master of his own mind. This he accomplishes by training his faculty of will to control his emotions, turning them on and off as occasion may require.
(b) Organized thinking forces one to work with definiteness of purpose, thereby enabling him to set up a habit that prohibits procrastination.
(c) It develops the habit of working with definite plans instead of blundering ahead by the hit or miss method.
(d) It enables one to stimulate the subconscious mind to greater action and more ready response, in the attainment of desired ends, instead of allowing the subconscious mind to respond to the “tramp” thoughts and destructive influences of one’s environment.
(e) It develops self-reliance.
(f) It gives one the benefit of the knowledge, experience and education of others, through the medium of the Master Mind alliance, which is an important medium used by all able thinkers.
(g) It enables one to convert his efforts into greater material resources and larger income, since an organized mind can produce more than one that is not organized.
(h) It develops the habit of accurate analysis, through which one may find the solution to his problems instead of worrying over them.
(i) It aids in maintaining sound health, because mind power that is organized and directed toward the attainment of desirable ends has no time to be wasted in connection with self-pity or imaginary ailments. Idle minds tend to develop ailing bodies.
(j) Last, but by no mean least, organized thinking leads to peace of mind and that form of permanent happiness which is known only to the man who keeps his mind fully occupied. No one can be either happy or successful without a planned program for the use of his time. Planned programs are based on organized thinking.
As I have stated before, the brain is something like a rich garden spot in that it will voluntarily grow a fine crop of weeds if it is not organized and kept busy growing a more desirable crop. The weeds are represented by the stray thoughts that take possession of the unorganized, idle mind, as the result of one’s daily environment.
Study this list of benefits carefully and you will reach the conclusion that any one of them offers sufficient reward to justify all the effort one puts into organizing his thinking habits. The sum total of all these benefits represents the difference between success and failure. Success is always the result of an ordered life. An ordered life comes through organized thinking and carefully controlled habits.

Amazing Wisdom !!! The Author of "Think And Grow Rich" Reveals the Wisdom of Andrew Carnegie. Draw Abundance, Wealth, Riches, Success, Money, and Prosperity ...
"Wealth", more commonly known as "The Gospel of Wealth", is an article written by Andrew Carnegie in 1889 that describes the responsibility of philanthropy by the new upper class of self-made rich. Carnegie proposed that the best way of dealing with the new phenomenon of wealth inequality was for the wealthy to redistribute their surplus means in a responsible and thoughtful manner. This approach was contrasted with traditional bequest (patrimony), where wealth is handed down to heirs, and other forms of bequest e.g. where wealth is willed to the state for public purposes. Carnegie argued that surplus wealth is put to best use (i.e. produces the greatest net benefit to society) when it is administered carefully by the wealthy. Carnegie also argues against wasteful use of capital in the form of extravagance, irresponsible spending, or self-indulgence, instead promoting the administration of said capital over the course of one's lifetime toward the cause of reducing the stratification between the rich and poor. As a result, the wealthy should administer their riches responsibly and not in a way that encourages "the slothful, the drunken, the unworthy".

The same applies to the man who cannot express himself forcefully in ordinary conversation and in small group gatherings, such as business conferences.
There is a general acceptance of the belief that the ability to dramatize words and express them forcefully at all times, under all conditions, is among the greatest of human achievements. In fact, some people place this power at the head of the list of all personal achievements.
Times without number, as we can see by examining the history of mankind, the entire trend of civilization has been influenced by men who could dramatize an idea with the spoken word. We have only to look around us to find men who have risen to great heights of personal achievement because of their ability to sell themselves to other people, through dramatized speech. Let it be remembered that in my use of the term speech, I have reference to man’s spoken words as a means of influencing others, whether he is speaking to one person or to many.
HILL: It might be helpful, Mr. Carnegie, if you were to mention some of the steps one must take to prepare to give an effective speech.
CARNEGIE: By far the most important factor of effective speech is a thorough knowledge of the subject on which one speaks. No amount of dramatic technique will ever take the place of the self-assurance a speaker feels when he knows his subject!
Someone whose hobby was terseness of speech, once said that a whole course on public speaking could be taught in one sentence: “Know what you wish to say and say it with all the feeling you can command, and then sit down!” The last two words are important. The time to stop speaking is the exact moment at which you have conveyed the thought you wish to get over, and not one second beyond that time. Long-winded speakers generally are boresome; but the short speech will be no less so if it does not say something that people wish to hear, and say it effectively.
HILL: Several times, Mr. Carnegie, you have used the word “dramatize” in connection with effective speech. Just how is the ability to dramatize acquired?
CARNEGIE: The ability to dramatize speech comes through habit; therefore one should begin this habit by speaking forcefully in ordinary conversationI There is the place where great speakers learn the art of effective speech. They practice on every person with whom they converse. They never utter a word without placing back of it the necessary feeling to make it penetrate and affect the mind of the listener. This simple procedure will make an effective speaker of anyone who follows it as a matter of daily habit, and nothing else will!
HILL: Mr. Carnegie, in our last discussion you stressed the importance of the proper choice of words. Will you tell me now, Sir, where the proper use of words fits into this business of effective speech?
CARNEGIE: Words will not produce effective speech unless they are grouped so as to convey ideas through illustrations and similes that are well within the experience of all! Remember this, because it is of the utmost importance to all who aspire to become effective speakers.
I have heard some well educated men make speeches which were masterpieces of English, but they failed to influence anyone because they were not properly attuned to the minds of the listeners, through the right sort of illustrations.
People wish to hear about subjects that help to solve their daily problems, subjects that aid them in their struggle for the necessities and the luxuries of life. People will listen to the discussion of other subjects, but they will be more greatly influenced when discussions are made interesting by dramatization and illustration.
All people resent the use of words which they do not understand, no matter how correctly they may be used. Remember, then, that the effective speaker must not only use illustrations within the range of his listeners, but he must describe them in words which anyone of ordinary educational advantages may understand.

CARNEGIE: The eighteenth trait of an attractive personality is —EFFECTIVE SPEECH. The person who cannot stand on his feet and speak with force and conviction, on any subject within the range of his knowledge, is under a great handicap as far as the attraction of people is concerned.

The Power of Organized Thinking - Andrew Carnegie
The Power of Organized Thinking - Andrew Carnegie
Download the full audio: www.WisdomOfSuccess.org

[Audiobook] - Gospel of Wealth by Andrew Carnegie
[Audiobook] - Gospel of Wealth by Andrew Carnegie
