A decade is a period of 10 years. The word is derived (via French) from the Ancient Greek dekas which means ten. This etymology is sometime confused with the Latin decas (ten) and dies (days), which is not correct. The other words for spans of years come from Latin: lustrum (5 years), century (100 years), millennium (1000 years).
Although any period of 10 years is a decade, a convenient and frequently referenced interval is based on the tens digit of a calendar year, as in using "1960s" to represent the decade from 1960 to 1969. Often, for brevity, only the tens part is mentioned (60s or sixties), although this may leave it uncertain which century is meant. These references are frequently used to encapsulate popular culture or other widespread phenomena that dominated such a decade, as in The Great Depression of the 1930s.
Since the common calendar starts with year 1, its first full decade is the years 1 to 10, the second decade from 11 to 20, and so on. So while the "2000s" comprises the years 2000 to 2009, the "201st decade" spans 2001 to 2010.
we sailed for so long
i had forgotten the way home
sometimes when i look at the sea
my thoughts turn to you
i guess this will have to do
while i sail alone
beneath a sky of blue
no land in sight not a bird above
only this tiny vessel i have
Watch as dusk begins to fall
We’re not safe here
So board up the windows
And pray for tomorrow
Cover your eyes and ears
Baby, choke on your tears
Choke on your words
One bite just like a kiss
Just like this
It’s good to be a vampire
Sleep all day
Party all night
Never grow old
in the right moment she feels him teething
burn the pictures of days gone by
trade this moment for passing pleasure
end the hour with even scores
in the right moment the candles burning
hide the question in one more thought
with submission you find devotion
save my soul with sudden good-byes
falling...
in the right moment the dial tone comforts
find your peace beneath tainted sheets
exchange values for self-indulgence
cross your heart with fleeting dreams
falling...
judges feasting on shame
sever passions on end
children weeping for one
vacant, denied
in the right moment the story's ending
try your soul on another page
and time opens your best kept secrets
plead the fifth now before you lie
in the right moment you play you
in the right moment you slay you
in the right moment you sell you
in the right moment i save you
Face down in the mud
It’s not the first time, sure won’t be the last
Stand the fuck up once again
And there’s nothin’ more to say
Gathering my teeth up off the floor
I spit out the blood, I’m coming back for more… yeah
I have kissed the hard cold ground a thousand times
before
The fire remains intact
We can feel it burn inside
Fan the flame and keep it up!
All the sweat & sacrifice is just a matter of pride
I just want to stand right here for all my goddamn life
It’s hard to walk this road
But I sure know it’s worth fighting for
Back in ‘98, when we were born
We were determined to bang down every fuckin’ door
As years go by, we came across the thickest walls
Yes, we kick’em harder ‘cos we have not had enough
We are the ones who have the right to say how hard it
We have gone through shit
But it’s the price for livin’ on a will
The fire remains intact…
All the sweat & sacrifice…
All the sweat & sacrifice is just a matter of pride
I just want to stand right here for all my goddamn life
I just want to stand right here
Never thought of givin’ up
Oh, hey, what a moment You have brought me to?
Such a freedom I have found in You
You're the healer who makes all things new, yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm not going back, I'm moving ahead
Here to declare to You my past is over in You
All things are made new, surrendered my life to Christ
I'm moving, moving forward, oh
You have risen with all power in Your hands
You have given me a second chance
Hallelujah, hallelujah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, oh
I'm not going back, I'm moving ahead
Here to declare to You my past is over in You
All things are made new, surrendered my life to Christ
I'm moving
Not going back, moving ahead
Here to declare to You, my past is over in You
All things are made new, surrendered my life to Christ
I'm moving, moving forward
Said I'm moving forward, oh yeah
Singing You make all things new
Yes, You make all things new and I will follow You forward, oh
You make all things new
You make all things new and I will follow You forward
You make all things new
Yes, You make all things new and I will follow You forward
You make all things new
Yes, You make all things new and I will follow You forward
I will follow You forward, yeah, oh, oh
I’m so bored I think I might die
The sun is shining and I’m still here
I’m sick of waiting and staring at the time
What makes me feel this uninspired?
I’d tell you I had other things on my plate
But that would make me a liar
It’s like there’s nothing I could write
To turn this spark into a fire
The wind is blowing in this Wiltshire town
I’m scared that you will let go of your kite now
I’m waiting for the call
I’m staring at my phone
But I know either way I’ll be staying home alone
Love, let me sleep
I won’t forget this in the morning
All these thoughts I seem to keep
My mind’s made up I’m staying in
Nothing inspiring is happening tonight
Tell me what it's like
To breathe easy
Knowing it's all in your hands
Can't find the word I'm searching for
The things you dream are far more beautiful for your
sake
Than the things that keep me endlessly awake
This is becoming too hard to take
Is common ground so hard to grasp
This was meant to be a simple task
Do we believe in the words you say
When tomorrow's just another day
I know the words
To all the sad songs
But I always had a way with
These melodies and major keys
Before I know my mouth is running away with me
Tell me what it's like to just get by
You've only got yourself to blame
You know we're all the same
It's a chance I'm here to take
Try your best to live for today
You won't make it through any other way
Now there's nothing else left to take
Hold your breath 'til the motions pass
Should I really even have to ask
If I see you then I hope you know
I'm going straight for your fucking throat
You were the best of all the passing trends
When will this fucking end
You were the life that I left behind
I know the words
To all the sad songs
But I always had a way with
These melodies and major keys
Before I know my mouth is running away with me
We took the time
We have the focus
But nothing ever mattered like
These fifths and thirds
And have you heard
Oh, to live on Sugar Mountain
With the barkers and the colored balloons,
You can't be twenty on Sugar Mountain
Though you're thinking that
you're leaving there too soon,
You're leaving there too soon.
It's so noisy at the fair
But all your friends are there
And the candy floss you had
And your mother and your dad.
Oh, to live on Sugar Mountain
With the barkers and the colored balloons,
You can't be twenty on Sugar Mountain
Though you're thinking that
you're leaving there too soon,
You're leaving there too soon.
There's a girl just down the aisle,
Oh, to turn and see her smile.
You can hear the words she wrote
As you read the hidden note.
Oh, to live on Sugar Mountain
With the barkers and the colored balloons,
You can't be twenty on Sugar Mountain
Though you're thinking that
you're leaving there too soon,
You're leaving there too soon.
Now you're underneath the stairs
And you're givin' back some glares
To the people who you met
And it's your first cigarette.
Oh, to live on Sugar Mountain
With the barkers and the colored balloons,
You can't be twenty on Sugar Mountain
Though you're thinking that
you're leaving there too soon,
You're leaving there too soon.
Now you say you're leavin' home
'Cause you want to be alone.
Ain't it funny how you feel
When you're findin' out it's real?
Oh, to live on Sugar Mountain
With the barkers and the colored balloons,
You can't be twenty on Sugar Mountain
Though you're thinking that
you're leaving there too soon,
You're leaving there too soon.
Oh, to live on Sugar Mountain
with the barkers and the colored balloons,
You can't be twenty on Sugar Mountain
Though you're thinking that
you're leaving there too soon,
You're leaving there too soon.
Welcome to the day
I finally silenced all these strangers
I could never say
That loving you wasn’t dangerous enough to make me stay
Now it comes down to this
Are you prepared to let me go?
October here we come
With open eyes we’ll take this
I know we can make it
And I remember when it seemed so far away to me
But now you’re here my dear
We’ll make this Autumn crystal clear
Just step away from me
And let me show them all that we can be, now
Welcome to the day
That all the things I’ve done amount to something
Remember back in May
When I knew you wanted me like I wanted you
October here we come
With open eyes we’ll take this
I know we can make it
And I remember when it seemed so far away to me
But now you’re here my dear
We’ll make this Autumn crystal clear
Just step away from me
And let me show them all that we can be
Here’s your piece of mind
Just know that I am fine
Let’s start this upward climb
Honey it’s time we crossed the line
Now it comes down to this
Are you prepared to let me go?
October here we come
With open eyes we’ll take this
I know we can make it
And I remember when it seemed so far away to me
But now you’re here my dear
We’ll make this Autumn crystal clear
Just step away from me
The story's so familiar
We've heard it all before
Some days it seems
Like nothing's sacred anymore
Despite the best intentions
Somewhere along the road
We've come to take for granted
This truth that we know
May we never forget
The cross and the blood
The price that was paid
So that we might live
May we never forget
The cost of this love
He'll never forsake us
He'll always forgive
May we never forget
So let us decide right here, right now
To refresh our memory
Of how it felt to be lost
And how it feels to be free
May we never forget
The cross and the blood
The price that was paid
So that we might live
May we never forget
The cost of this love
He'll never forsake us
He'll always forgive
May we never forget
The grace of our God
The wealth of His mercy outpoured
Forgive us, Lord
Forgive us if we ever forget
Your cross and Your blood
The life that You gave
So that we might live
May we never forget
The cost of Your love
You'll never forsake us
You'll always forgive
May we never, never ever forget
See I know I can do this on my own
But you’re glancing at the door like you won’t
Ever get out alive
Your eyes are reading stay but I see go
No, this is not the perfect photograph
That I had in my mind
And I know
You’re holding your breath for me
Time and time again I gave you reasons why i’d have to
let you down
You could be the death of me
But now it’s said and done
It’s safe to say you are the brightest light this side
of town
‘Cause I want it, well I need it
After all thats happened up ‘til now
So come on, amaze me
‘Cause darling I am down.
We’ve been on this ride for far too long
To take a second guess is useless
And we both know, despite me leaving
The days we spent have been and gone
Can’t stop me from being wrong.
Well I know
You’re holding your breath for me
Time and time again I gave you reasons why i’d have to
let you down
You could be the death of me
But now it’s said and done
It’s safe to say you are the brightest light this side
of town
It’s my head versus my heart
And now you’ll never know what you’ve done
Well I know
You’re holding your breath for me
Time and time again I gave you reasons why i’d have to
let you down
You could be the death of me
But now it’s said and done
It’s safe to say you are the brightest light this side
of town
You’re holding your breath for me
Out of sight is out of mind
I’m so far away I might never be found
This could be the death of me
So now it’s said and done take me away
Man down, man down
What are you gonna lie about this time?
I’ve hit the bottom
But you’re not perfect in my eyes
I said just stop and take a breath
But no, you’re too good for that
You carry on like it’s all good
Like you’ll come out on top
But you won’t
What you gonna do, when I turn the lights out?
What you gonna do, just to get your fight out?
Is that the best that you can do?
You want to walk her line
With the sharp edge of your tongue
Just to see if you can get away with anything
It’s like broadway all over again.
What you gonna do, when I turn the lights out?
What you gonna do, just to get your fight out?
Is that the best that you can do?
Cross your heart, and hope to die
I see doubt in your pretty face
Keep your eye on the prize
Please say you’ll try
I see doubt in your precious mind
I wonder why?
What you gonna do, when I turn the lights out?
What you gonna do, just to get your fight out?
God only knows I try
To keep my head above the water
But sometimes, things get the best of me and I can’t
breathe
So I look a little closer and I find
There’s nothing left of what I used to call my mind
‘Don’t you blow it, you could be king and you know it’
Just remember the words, you know this
Down and out
All that’s left to lose you, I know
I can’t escape while I’m awake
This bitter taste of something fake
I will get the best of me
I’ve got a song and a melody
A girl down by the English sea
Though sometimes she goes away
I made sure I found the time
Just a little time away and I’ll be fine
There’s no doubt in her precious mind
‘Don’t you blow it, you could be king and you know it’
Just remember the words, you know this
Down and out
All that’s left to lose you, I know
I can’t escape while I’m awake
This bitter taste of something fake
I will get the best of me
We would watch them all
We would watch them all run away
Why’d you run away?
Could you watch it all?
Could you watch it all fall apart?
Let it fall apart
But how could I?
I’ll waste another night
I’ll waste another night just to feel real to you
We’re wasting all our lives
Just to feel alive
So give back my broken mind
God only knows I try
To remember I’m alive
And I am better than I’ve ever been before right now
I would be a better person just to move this forward
I would lie just to please myself,
I would die just to get myself the fuck out of here
Is this real?
Forgetting just to breathe
Forgetting just to feel your lovesick heart skip beats
I look at you and I forget to speak
Look at yourself, then me
Go out
Don’t sit inside all day, staring at the wall
She wouldn’t want that
She’d probably tell me to sort it out
Move out, move away
Just don’t do nothing at all
Just be normal, try new things and make new friends
I’m bored of being bored, of being ignored
I walk these streets just for something to do
It’s nothing new, it’s what I do
Go home
Just sit in bed all day and bore yourself to death
But I don’t want that and I’ll be fucked if I can sort
it out
Forget about your friends, they’ll ditch you in the end
Falser words were never spoken
I feel as low as the basement I created in my mind
To keep my thoughts inside when I’m sad
What’s a man, without his piece of mind?
Tell me I’m alright
I feel as low as the ground floor of your building
When I left you on the seventh floor
Can’t ignore the light from outside your window as I
make my way back home
Go out
Don’t sit inside all day, staring at the wall
She wouldn’t want that
VERSE 1
My decade.
My ashes in the womb.
My safe place.
The answers coming soon.
CHORUS
Why are we here?
Why are you there?
The pace of none.
Will find that which is done.
It’s been a while since we last spoke,
But now we’re holding onto hope
Will it see you through?
I know I never did my best
This bitter feud has made a mess of this family.
We used to be so close
There’s nothing left of what we had
In this hospital bed.
Rest your bones
Before you fall apart again
Lovely heart
I wish I cared too much, never enough for you
All this time and not a sign
It makes me sick, it makes me wish that
I was still a kid
I wasn’t great I must confess
But all your issues made a mess of this family
We used to be so close.
There’s nothing left of what we had
In this hospital bed.
Rest your bones
Before you fall apart again
Lovely heart
I wish I cared too much, never enough for you.
Seven years and not a single word
And now I’m taking over the world
And you may never know
It’s been a while since we last spoke,
But now we’re holding onto hope
Will it see you through?
I know I never did my best
This bitter feud has made a mess of this family.
We used to be so close
There’s nothing left of what we had
In this hospital bed.
Rest your bones
Before you fall apart again
Lovely heart
I wish I cared too much, never enough for you
All this time and not a sign
It makes me sick, it makes me wish that
I was still a kid
I wasn’t great I must confess
But all your issues made a mess of this family
We used to be so close.
There’s nothing left of what we had
In this hospital bed.
Rest your bones
Before you fall apart again
Lovely heart
I wish I cared too much, never enough for you.
Seven years and not a single word
And now I’m taking over the world
And you may never know
You’d be so proud
