“It’s not about motherhood. I was not even a mother back when I signed Iruvar. My choices have been my choices, regardless of how my life has changed, be it marriage, motherhood or anything else. I chose Iruvar to do a film with Mani Ratnam, where it’s not all about my character. To just do a film with so many different talents because I wanted to learn and belong to cinema. As actors, we don’t get time at all to take a gap. We’re working all the time.
So with motherhood, you are supposed to get this break for yourself and your kids. Even then, you don’t get time for yourself because you have to take care of your children. That’s when I thought of Jazbaa to get back to films. I don’t think motherhood has altered my choices. I guess it’s a mixed bag all through.”
