The Gaza Strip (Arabic: قطاع غزة Qiṭāʿ Ġazzah, IPA: [qitˤaːʕ ɣazza]) lies on the Eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, within the Middle East (at 31 25 N, 34 20 E). The Strip borders Egypt on the southwest, 11km long, and Israel on the east and north, 51km long. It is about 41 kilometres (25 mi) long, and between 6 and 12 kilometres (4–7.5 mi) wide, with a total area of 360 square kilometres (140 sq mi). It has a 40 km coastline onto the Mediterranean Sea, but has no maritime claims due to Israeli administration. The territory takes its name from Gaza-city, its main city and administrative center.
Gaza (Arabic: غزة Ġazzah, Arabic pronunciation: [ˈɣazːa]), also referred to as Gaza City, is a Palestinian city in the Gaza Strip, with a population of about 450,000, making it the largest city in the Palestinian territories. Inhabited since at least the 15th-century BCE, Gaza has been dominated by several different peoples and empires throughout its history. The Philistines made it a part of their pentapolis after the Ancient Egyptians had ruled it for nearly 350 years. Under the Romans and later the Byzantines, Gaza experienced relative peace and its port flourished. In 635 CE, it became the first city in Palestine to be conquered by the Rashidun army and quickly developed into a centre of Islamic law. However, by the time the Crusaders invaded the city in the late 11th-century, it was in ruins. In later centuries, Gaza experienced several hardships—from Mongol raids to floods and locusts, reducing it to a village by the 16th-century when it was incorporated into the Ottoman Empire. During the first half of Ottoman rule, the Ridwan dynasty controlled Gaza and under them the city went through an age of great commerce and peace.
We finally got a rare glimpse of the embattled Gaza Strip and a chance to see what life was like under the rule of Hamas. In 2007 we tried and failed to get into Gaza through the Israeli-controlled Erez Crossing. Back then the rival Palestinian factions of Hamas and Fatah were engaged in a bloody war for control of this tiny strip of land. Hamas won. When the post-Mubarak government of Egypt decided to start letting small numbers of folks into Gaza through their Rafah Crossing, we knew we could finally enter the region.

Egypt opens Rafah border crossing with Gaza Strip for 3 days
Egypt has temporarily opened a critical border crossing with the Gaza Strip for the first time in months.
The Rafah crossing, opened on Saturday and will operate for three days. This, will allow Palestinians to travel in both directions. An Egyptian official said that some 15-thousand people have applied to exit the country. Egypt has opened the Rafah crossing in both directions only five days this year. Israel imposed a blockade on Gaza in June 2007. The blockade has cut off the territory from the outside world and has led to an economic and humanitarian crisis in the densely-populated enclave.

However, in spite of the hardship, the Palestinians of Gaza have stayed resilient.

During the devastating 50-day war in Israel and Gaza this past summer, around 18,000 homes in Gaza were destroyed or severely damaged, leaving around 120,000 residents homeless.
Now, with trouble in neighboring Sinai and infighting between Palestinian factions, reconstruction efforts in the beleaguered Gaza Strip are moving slowly. With the UN warning of a growing humanitarian crisis for the people of Gaza, many fear that another armed conflict is imminent. Six months after the end of fighting, VICE News returns to the region to investigate the progress on reconstruction.
In part one, VICE News correspondent Danny Gold returns to Shija'iyya, the neighborhood that bore the brunt of last summer's fighting, and investigates how the closure of the Rafah crossing and demolition of the underground tunnels to Egypt has impacted Gaza's fragile economy.

The definitive account of the Israel and Palestine's dark and deadly 2008 winter. Combining quality camera work with brave and unshrinking journalism, this is the powerful film that resulted.
"Today it's the sons of Hamas who are on the frontline. Victory or martyrdom, by God's will..." cried Sheik Rayyan, from the Hamas leadership. Within hours he would be dead, struck down by an Israeli bomb. White phosphorous, illegal in use against civilians, was one of Israel's responses. "White phosphorous burns through its victims' bodies" says the head of the Burn Unit at this overcrowded hospital. "Nowhere in the Gaza strip is safe for the civilian population". At the UN school, 35 sheltering refugees, mostly children, were killed. "Hamas, and its leaders, hidden underground, are completely responsible for the suffering of Gaza´s people", declares the Israeli Defence Forces spokesman. "This will not stop Hamas or change their principles" cry the Palestinian people "we are the ones who are destroyed".

For years, the state of Israel and Palestine has been riddled with violence. But less than an hours drive from the heart of the conflict in Gaza, a Jewish-Arab community is working together for peace.
With a seemingly endless stream of rocket attacks, bombing campaigns and revenge killings, the state of Israel and Palestine can often seem devoid of any hope of reconciliation. In the village of Neve Shalom/What-al-Salam however, Arabs and Jews are working together to create a world separate from the world of violence and chaos that surrounds them. "We live the model where we share the land, the power and the everyday life and administration, and this is our message" says Evi, a village resident. Children from both communities come from miles around to share an education in peace and mutual understanding at the local school-the only one of its kind in Israel in its pioneering approach of teaching Arabic and Hebrew lessons alongside each other. Families live along side each other and as Nadine and Tali testify, children, who would otherwise most likely be enemies, become best friends: "we grew up together and for high school classmates it was difficult to understand that this is our reality whereas for them it’s the first encounter". But as Tali's father, Cobi insists, the village is not a Utopia: "it's not that we will all think alike, it’s not that we are all the same, we are different and the issue is how to coexist in spite of the differences." But still the village exists in peace. And the example it sets has sparked the imagination of their fellow compatriots and the waiting list to live in the village is long. With the influx of new inhabitants questions about the peace they all cherish arise: "does community come first, or do we have to step outside and try to change things even when we know there’s little chance of success?"

The Gaza Strip, a coastal enclave wedged between Israel and Egypt, has been under blockade since 2007, shortly after elections brought the group Hamas to power.
After repeated bombings by Israel - including one last summer which left over 2000 people dead - Gaza is on the verge of a humanitarian catastrophe.
However, in spite of the hardship, the Palestinians of Gaza have stayed resilient.

US Carriers Suspend Travel to Israel
The United States is prohibiting American carriers from flying to Israel's airport in Tel Aviv for 24 hours, because of rising violence between Israel and Hamas militants. The action was announced on Tuesday, after a rocket fired by Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip landed near the airport. As VOA's Carolyn Presutti tells us, international officials soon may have to determine which combat zones are too dangerous for commercial flights.

The modern state of Israel has its roots in the Land of Israel (Eretz Yisrael), a concept central to Judaism for over 3000 years. After World War I, the League of Nations approved the British Mandate of Palestine with the intent of creating a "national home for the Jewish people." In 1947, the United Nations approved the partition of Palestine into two states, one Jewish and one Arab. On May 14, 1948 the state of Israel declared independence in accordance with the UN decision and this was followed by a war with the surrounding Arab states, which refused to accept the plan. The Israelis were subsequently victorious in a series of wars confirming their independence and expanding the borders of the Jewish state beyond those in the UN Partition Plan. Since then, Israel has been in conflict with many of the neighboring Arab countries, resulting in several major wars and decades of violence that continue to this day. Since its foundation, Israel's boundaries and even the State's very right to exist have been subject to dispute, especially among its Arab neighbors. However, Israel has signed peace treaties with Egypt and Jordan, and efforts are being made to reach a permanent accord with the Palestinians.
Israel is a representative democracy with a parliamentary system and universal suffrage. The Prime Minister serves as head of government and the Knesset serves as Israel's legislative body. In terms of nominal gross domestic product, the nation's economy is estimated as being the 44th-largest in the world. Israel ranks high among Middle Eastern countries on the bases of human development, freedom of the press, and economic competitiveness. Jerusalem is the country's capital, seat of government, and largest city, while Israel's main financial center is Tel Aviv.

BBC documentary about how Israelis invaded Palestine, Egypt, Syria and attacked Lebanon. Israel started the 6 day war and therefore caused the 78' war. Egypt at least got back their lost territory and Syria got back only 1/3 of their own. Israel is not the country you think it is, they are thiefs, and murderers

It shares land borders with Lebanon to the north, Syria in the northeast, Jordan on the east, the Palestinian territories comprising the West Bank and Gaza Strip[10] on the east and southwest, respectively, and Egypt and the Gulf of Aqaba in the Red Sea to the south. It contains geographically diverse features within its relatively small area.[11][12] Israel's financial center is Tel Aviv,[13] while Jerusalem is both its designated capital and the most populous individual city under the country's governmental administration. Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem is internationally disputed.[note 2][14]
On 29 November 1947, the United Nations General Assembly recommended the adoption and implementation of the Partition Plan for Mandatory Palestine. Borders for a new Jewish state were specified by the UN but ultimately not recognized by either Israel or neighboring countries.[15][16] The end of the British Mandate for Palestine was set for midnight on 14 May 1948. That day, David Ben-Gurion, the Executive Head of the Zionist Organization and president of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, declared "the establishment of a Jewish state in Eretz Israel, to be known as the State of Israel," which would start to function from the termination of the mandate.[17][18][19] Neighboring Arab armies invaded the former Palestinian mandate on the next day and fought the Israeli forces.[20][21] Israel has since fought several wars with neighboring Arab states,[22] in the course of which it has occupied the West Bank, Sinai Peninsula (1956–57, 1967–82), part of South Lebanon (1982–2000), Gaza Strip and the Golan Heights. It extended its laws to the Golan Heights and East Jerusalem, but not the West Bank.[23][24][25][26] Efforts to resolve the Israeli–Palestinian conflict have not resulted in peace. However, peace treaties between Israel and both Egypt and Jordan have successfully been signed. Israel’s occupation of Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem is the world's longest military occupation in modern times.[note 3][27]
The population of Israel, as defined by the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics, was estimated in 2014 to be 8,146,300 people. It is the world's only Jewish-majority state; 6,212,000 citizens, or 74.9% of Israelis, are designated as Jewish. The country's second largest group of citizens are denoted as Arabs, with 1,718,400 people (including the Druze and most East Jerusalem Arabs).[28][29] The great majority of Israeli Arabs are Muslims; the rest are Christians and Druze. Other minorities include Maronites, Samaritans, Dom people, Black Hebrew Israelites, other Sub-Saharan Africans,[30] Armenians, Circassians, Roma, Vietnamese boat people, and others. Israel also hosts a significant population of non-citizen foreign workers and asylum seekers from Africa and Asia.[31]
In its Basic Laws, Israel defines itself as a Jewish and Democratic State.[32] Israel is a representative democracy[33] with a parliamentary system, proportional representation and universal suffrage.[34][35] The Prime Minister serves as head of government and the Knesset serves as Israel's legislative body. Israel is a developed country and an OECD member,[36] with the 43rd-largest economy in the world by nominal gross domestic product as of 2012. The country has the highest standard of living in the Middle East and the fifth highest in Asia,[37] and has the one of the highest life expectancies in the world

Nearly two months after the ceasefire, more than 100,000 people remain displaced due to the massive infrastructural damage to housing units, businesses, schools and clinics. Many more lack access to basic resources, including food, electricity and clean drinking water. Based on her observations from the ground, Elhilou described the

Egypt plans to double the size of a buffer zone along its border with the Gaza Strip.
The government says the measure is intended to put an end to the movement of armed fighters and weapons from Gaza to Egypt's Sinai Peninsula.
The first phase of the operation began in October, days after 30 Egyptian soldiers were killed in a suicide attack on a checkpoint close to the Gaza border.
Thousands of people in northern Sinai were ordered to move out. Their homes were then bulldozed and bombed.
The buffer zone runs for about 13 kilometres along Egypt's border with the Gaza Strip.

Under its 2005 disengagement strategy, Israel retained special control over Gaza's airspace and territorial waters, continued to patrol and monitor the external land boundary of the Gaza Strip, with the exemption of its southernmost perimeter (where Egypt retained command of the boundary and boundary crossings were supervised by European displays) and continued to keep track of and blockade Gaza's coastline. Israel largely offers for and controls Gaza's water supply, power and communications facilities.

War Between Israel and Palestine - THE GAZA CONFLICT - Documentary Films
The Gaza-- Israel dispute belongs of the larger Israeli-- Palestinian problem.
Palestinian militant activities escalated in the Gaza Strip following the frustrating election to government of the Islamic political event Hamas in 2005 and 2006. The conflict escalated regarding the split of the Palestinian Authority to Fatah government in the West Bank and the Hamas Government in Gaza and the following violent ousting of Fatah. Palestinian rocket attacks on Israel and Israel's blockade of Gaza have actually exacerbated the dispute.

Two Decades with NO VISIBLE Results in GAZA STRIP - Should Leaders be Replaced?
Two Decades with NO VISIBLE Results in GAZA STRIP - Should Leaders be Replaced?
One of the things U.S. President Barack Obama is expected to ask Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu when they meet at the White House next Monday is, "What's your plan if the attempt to formulate a framework for further negotiations fails and the peace process breaks down?" U.S. officials say Obama will ask Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas the same thing when he comes calling at the White House on March 17.
Obama will ask Netanyahu what he plans to do about the Palestinian population in the West Bank, how he'll deal with the Palestinian plans to seek statehood through various UN agencies and how he intends to stop the increasing boycotts against Israel and the deterioration of its position in the European Union.
Abbas will be asked by the U.S. president how he thinks unilateral UN moves will bring him closer to an independent state and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the West Bank, and how he intends to pay the salaries of tens of thousands of PA workers if the United States and the European Union cut off his funding.
Obama's message to the two leaders is that they have two options: They can cooperate with the U.S. initiative and make progress, or go it alone and be forced to deal with the ensuing reality. Because the reality the two leaders will face after the talks fail will not be a pleasant one.
Netanyahu would like to focus his meeting with Obama on Iran, but the White House has other plans. Obama's advisers gave a preemptive briefing to New York Times political reporter Mark Landler at which they clearly framed the Obama-Netanyahu meeting as dealing mainly with the Palestinian issue.
Senior White House officials told the Times that after a year in which the Palestinian issue has been handled almost exclusively by Secretary of State John Kerry, Obama believes that now, prior to the decisions by Netanyahu and Abbas, is the right time for him to intervene personally.
"The president wouldn't want to run any risk that it was the lack of his involvement that would make the difference between success and failure," a senior U.S. official told the Times.
The framework document for negotiations that Kerry and special envoy Martin Indyk have been working on for the past two months is meant to provide guidelines for continuing the peace talks and reaching a permanent settlement by the end of 2014.
The document will refer to all the core issues. Some will be addressed in more detail, such as setting the boundaries of a Palestinian state based on the 1967 lines with land swaps, security arrangements in the Jordan Valley, and the mutual recognition of a Jewish state and a Palestinian state. Other issues, like a Palestinian capital in Jerusalem and the refugee problem, will be addressed more vaguely.
The Americans are seeking maximum agreement for the terms, but at this stage this goal seems very distant. The administration has another month to work -- until March 29, when the fourth group of prisoners is supposed to be released. If no agreement is reached on the framework document, it is difficult to see the prisoner release going forward, and if it doesn't, the route to the talks' collapse is short.
Obama's meeting with Abbas is much more critical than his meeting with Netanyahu. After spending a month mostly in talks with the Israeli side, Kerry and Indyk last week began talking to the Palestinians - and these sessions were not successful, to say the least.
Two Kerry-Abbas meetings held in Paris last week ended on a worse notethan they began. Abbas rejected many of Kerry's proposals and harshly accused the Americans of repeating their tricks of the past by presenting Israeli proposals as if they were American ones.
Abbas is in a serious bind. When he agreed in July 2013 to nine months of negotiations, it was mainly to secure the release of the 104 pre-Oslo Palestinian prisoners being held in Israel. Abbas now understands that the talks he entered as a tactical move have become a process that requires making irrevocable decisions, including some that will be hard to swallow, like recognizing Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people.
Rejection of Kerry's proposals is liable to be a death blow to the entire Palestinian national movement. Fatah will disappear from the political map and the issue of a Palestinian state will be pushed off the global priority list. Moreover, such a rejection would hand the prize of a lifetime to Netanyahu and the Israeli political right. Instead of Netanyahu being put to the test, the prime minister will be able to declare openly that there is indeed no partner for peace. We will not have to wait long to know where things are heading.

Rebuilding the Gaza Strip: Obstacles and Opportunities
October 21, 2014 - The Middle East Institute's George and Rhonda Salem Family Foundation lecture series proudly hosted Gaza-based Rania Elhilou (ANERA) and Paul Butler (ANERA) for a discussion of the humanitarian and infrastructural costs of the recent Gaza conflict and steps needed to address the ongoing crisis.
Nearly two months after the ceasefire, more than 100,000 people remain displaced due to the massive infrastructural damage to housing units, businesses, schools and clinics. Many more lack access to basic resources, including food, electricity and clean drinking water. Based on her observations from the ground, Elhilou described the conditions faced by Gaza residents, and how they are coping, while Butler discussed the challenges to Gaza's reconstruction. Middle East Institute scholar Amb. Philip Wilcox moderated the discussion.

The first phase cleared an area 500 metres wide, destroying homes - and tunnels used for smuggling.
The security buffer is now being extended, to one kilometre.
But is Egypt's overriding justification one of national security? Or are there regional and international pressures at play?

Israel Criticizes World Silence Regarding Recent Rocket Attack
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized what he described as the world's "silence" over recent rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip, drawing a quick response from his country's closest ally, the U.S.
In Germany, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said U.S. officials had spent "a lot of time talking about this" during Israel's recent war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Netanyahu, speaking at his weekly Cabinet meeting, said he hadn't heard anyone condemn three rocket attacks from Gaza over the past two weeks.
The rockets caused no damage, nor any injuries.

The White House reaffirmed on Sunday its support for Israel's right to defend itself after Israeli aircraft struck the Gaza Strip in retaliation for a series of rocket attacks.
"Clearly the U.S. stands with the people of Israel as they defend their people and their nation against these kind of attacks," White House spokesman Josh Earnest, accompanying President Barack Obama at a G7 summit in Germany, told reporters.

Israel's military says it has carried out an airstrike in the northern Gaza Strip in response to a rocket fired from Hamas-controlled territory into southern Israel.
No casualties were reported Sunday from either strike. Air raid sirens sounded throughout Ashkelon, a city about 10 km (6 miles) north of Gaza with a population of about 120,000.
Israel said it is closing its border crossings into Gaza.
Sporadic rocket fire from Gaza in recent weeks has broken a lull in cross-border violence since a 50-day Israeli war against Hamas ended with an Egyptian-brokered truce last August.

Early Sunday, the Israeli military carried out an airstrike in the Gaza Strip in response to the latest rocket attack from the Hamas-ruled territory.

White House backs Israel over retaliatory airstrike on Gaza
SUBSCRIBE: http://goo.gl/hPU6TZ
The White House reaffirmed on Sunday its support for Israel's right to defend itself after Israeli aircraft struck the Gaza Strip in retaliation for a series of rocket attacks.
"Clearly the U.S. stands with the people of Israel as they defend their people and their nation against these kind of attacks," White House spokesman Josh Earnest, accompanying President Barack Obama at a G7 summit in Germany, told reporters.
On Saturday evening, a rocket exploded in an open area in the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council in southern Israel. No damage was reported.
A Salafist group calling itself the Omar Brigades, which identifies with ISIS, claimed responsibility for the rocket fire on Twitter later Saturday night. The group said it would not abide by an informal truce agreed between Hamas and Israel after last summer's 50-day Gaza war, adding that that the rockets were a reminder to Hamas that Israel, not the Salafists, were "the enemy."
In response, Israel Air Force struck “terror infrastructure” targets in northern Gaza Strip overnight, according to a statement released just before 4 A.M. by the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit.
Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon also ordered the closure of both the Erez and Kerem Shalom border crossings between Israel and the Strip.
The Israel Defense Forces deployed Iron Dome missile defense batteries in several locations in the south during the past week following several incidents of rocket fire from the Gaza Strip toward Israeli territory.

Israel's Netanyahu says world is silent on Gaza rocket attacks
JERUSALEM -- Israel's prime minister on Sunday slammed the international community's silence over recent rocket attacks from Gaza and warned that a strong reprisal could be forthcoming.
Benjamin Netanyahu said he hasn't heard a word of condemnation from the world about three rocket attacks from Gaza over the past two weeks. The rockets did not cause any injury or harm but disrupted the quiet in southern Israel that has mostly prevailed since last summer's war between Hamas and Israel.
"It will be interesting to see if this silence continues when we use all our strength in exercising our right to defend ourselves," Netanyahu said at his weekly Cabinet meeting. "It should be clear: the hypocrisy that is sweeping the world will not chain our hands from defending the citizens of Israel."

NEWS PAPER
A Jihadist Salafi group, the "Omar Brigades," sympathizers with Islamic State, claimed responsibility for firing the rocket at Ashkelon. It also claimed the previous recent firings at Israel.
The group said the rocket aimed at Ashkelon was in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails, and their own members incarcerated in Hamas-controlled jails in Gaza.

Egypt's appeals court has overturned a ruling that listed the Palestinian militant group Hamas as a terrorist organisation, court officials say.
One of them told AFP news agency the ruling in February was quashed because the lower court was not "competent" to make such verdicts.
Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, welcomed Saturday's ruling.
Hamas is an offshoot of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood - itself designated as a terrorist organisation in 2013.
Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood President Mohammed Morsi was ousted in 2013.
Positive impact
Hamas said the appeals ruling was "correcting a previous mistake".
Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri told Reuters news agency: "The decision today represents a commitment by Cairo to its strong role towards the Palestinian cause.
"There is no doubt that [it] will have positive results and impacts on the relation between Hamas and Cairo."
In February, a lower court designated Hamas a a terrorist organisation, accusing it of supporting an insurgency in Egypt's northern Sinai.
The verdict came after two complaints were reportedly filed against the militant group implicating it in attacks against the police and army in the peninsula.
Militants have killed scores of policemen and soldiers since President Morsi's removal, vowing revenge for government moves against his supporters that have resulted in more than 1,400 people being killed.
Egypt has traditionally played a key role in mediating between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, and is seen as a key player in any peace or security talks.
Hamas dominates Gaza and fought a 50-day war with Israel last year. Under its charter, the movement is committed to Israel's destruction.
Israel, the United States and several other nations have designated Hamas a terrorist organisation over its long record of attacks and refusal to renounce violence.
Hamas, which was founded in 1987, won Palestinian parliamentary elections in 2006 and reinforced its power in Gaza the following year after ousting its Fatah rivals.

Egyptian court cancels Hamas listing as terrorist organization
An Egyptian appeals court on Saturday cancelled a ruling to list the Palestinian group Hamas as a terrorist organization, judicial sources said, signaling a possible easing of pressure on the Gaza Strip's ruling faction.
Hamas welcomed the decision by Egypt, which faces an insurgency it says is fueled by weapons smuggled from Gaza. Hamas said the ruling would help relations with Cairo.
Hamas is an offshoot of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood which the authorities have declared a terrorist group and have repressed since the army ousted one of its leaders, Mohammed Morsi, from the presidency in 2013.
Cairo has for many years played a central role in engineering ceasefires between neighboring Israel and Hamas, which dominates Gaza, including a truce reached between the sides in August that ended a 50-day war.
Egyptian officials say weapons are smuggled from Gaza into Egypt where they end up with militant groups fighting to topple Cairo's Western-backed government.
Militants based in Egypt's Sinai region, bordering Gaza and Israel, have killed hundreds of police and soldiers since Morsi's political demise following protests against his rule. The insurgency has spread to other parts of Egypt, the most populous Arab country.
Crackdown
The lawyer who first raised the case against Hamas told Reuters he would request that Egypt's Foreign Ministry place Hamas on its list of terrorist organizations, based on previous judicial decisions.
"This ruling does not return us to zero. I have two rulings placing the Brotherhood and the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades on the list of terrorist organizations," Ashraf Farahat said.
Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, was classified as a terrorist organization by Egypt in January.
The Brotherhood was banned in 2013 following Morsi's ouster as part of a crackdown including many liberal and secular activists.
Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri welcomed Saturday's decision as "correcting a previous mistake".
"The decision today represents a commitment by Cairo to its strong role towards the Palestinian cause. There is no doubt that (it) will have positive results and impacts on the relation between Hamas and Cairo," he told Reuters.
Hamas had rejected previous judicial rulings, while the Brotherhood maintains it is committed to peaceful activism and rejects links to violence.
Separately, the trial of two Egyptian policemen accused of killing a lawyer in custody began on Saturday.
The case is a rare action against members of the country's security forces. Rights groups accuse the police of abuses, which the government denies.

Egyptian court cancels Hamas listing as terrorist organisation - sources
CAIRO (Reuters) - An Egyptian appeals court on Saturday cancelled a ruling to list the Palestinian group Hamas as a terrorist organisation, judicial sources said, signalling a possible easing of pressure on the Gaza Strip's ruling faction.

Islamist militants based in Egypt's Sinai region, bordering Gaza and Israel, have killed hundreds of police and soldiers since Mursi's political demise following protests against his rule. The insurgency has spread to other parts of Egypt, the most populous Arab country.

Egyptian Court Overturns Naming Hamas Terror Organization
An Egyptian court overturned a decision naming Hamas a terrorist organization Saturday, a ruling coming after months of increasing hostility to the blockaded rulers of the Gaza Strip.
The Urgent Matters Appeals Court cited a lack of jurisdiction as the reason for annulling the earlier court's ruling.

U.N. Report Cites Alleged Israel Crimes Against Children, no Consensus on Listing
A U.N. document shows, U.N. agencies in Israel and the Palestinian territories reported an alarming number of child victims in last year's war in the Gaza Strip but were split on whether Israel should be put on a list of violators of children's rights. Their 22-page confidential country report, obtained by Reuters on Friday, was prepared by United Nations agencies on the ground for submission to the U.N. special envoy for children and armed conflict as she readied a draft of the annual list.

Crime & Punishment in the Gaza Strip
Crime & Punishment in the Gaza Strip
We finally got a rare glimpse of the embattled Gaza Strip and a chance to see what life was like under the rule of Hamas. In 2007 we tried and failed to get into Gaza through the Israeli-controlled Erez Crossing. Back then the rival Palestinian factions of Hamas and Fatah were engaged in a bloody war for control of this tiny strip of land. Hamas won. When the post-Mubarak government of Egypt decided to start letting small numbers of folks into Gaza through their Rafah Crossing, we knew we could finally enter the region.

After a War, Still Living in Rubble: Fallout in Gaza (Part 1)

It contains geographically diverse features within its relatively small area.[11][12] Israel's financial center is Tel Aviv,[13] while Jerusalem is both its designated capital and the most populous individual city under the country's governmental administration. Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem is internationally disputed.

Early Sunday, the Israeli military carried out an airstrike in the Gaza Strip in response to the latest rocket attack from the Hamas-ruled territory.

MISSILES ATTACK ON SOUTH ISRAEL 4 June 2015
WALLA NEWS, 4th June 2015. After a time of relative rest, missiles had returned to the South Israeli region Sdot Negev. Dwellings had become anew target to deliberate attacks from the Gaza Strip. It is now on a level of “drizzling”: .a missile here, and a missile there.
Hamas is blaming the Salafi’s (related to ISIS) and the Islamic Jihad.
Tamir Idaan, mayor of the Region “Sdot Negev” (Negev Fields), tells about the new terror assaults on his region that are aimed to kill as many as possible children, families and innocent people. He especially stress the psychological impact the assaults have on children; living in his area under un normal situation of constant emergency.

Israel Strikes Gaza After Rocket Fire
NEWS PAPER

The attacks were carried out early on Sunday. Witnesses say the israeli jets targeted positions north of Gaza. Earlier, tel aviv claimed that a rocket fired from Gaza landed in the city of ashkelon in southern israel. Hamas and Islamic Jihad movement did not comment on israeli claims. The israeli army says it would close the erez and kerem shalom crossings into the Gaza Strip in an apparent punitive measure.

Egypt court overturns Hamas terror blacklisting
Egypt court overturns Hamas terror blacklisting
