"I don't see how we can do [a sequel]. It's not made for that,” Luc Besson said last summer about the prospect of a sequel to the surprise smash hit "Lucy." “If I find something good enough, maybe I will, but for now I don't even think about it.” Well, it looks like he's thought about it and something is brewing. At CineEurope 2015, production house EuropaCorp (which Besson heads up) announced their slate of upcoming films, which quietly mentioned that "Lucy 2" was "in development." Here's the roster:  “Shut In” with Naomi Watts (International Release Date February 19, 2016) “Nine Lives” with Kevin Spacey (International Release Date April 29, 2016) “The Lake” with Sullivan Stapleton (International Release date July 15, 2016) “Warrior's Gate” with Dave Bautista (date undetermined output) “The Transporter Legacy” with Ed Skrein (Release date September 9, 2015) “Escobar” with Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz (Released in 2016) »

President Obama Calls Gay Marriage Decision ‘A Victory for America’

3 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

President Barack Obama hailed the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling legalizing same-sex marriage across 50 states as “a victory for America.”

Speaking from the White House Rose Garden on Friday, the president said that the decision shows “real change is possible. … That shifts in hearts and minds is possible.”

He argued that the Supreme Court ruling was an example of “justice that arrives like a thunder bolt” and one that ends gay men and women’s status as second class citizens.

The speed with which public attitudes have shifted in favor of gay marriage has been dizzying, but that ignores the legacy of the gay rights movement. Friday’s victory was also the result of millions of people who endured taunts and bullying, who came out to families and friends, and who marched for equality, he argued.

These people, Obama said, “slowly made an entire country realize that love is love. »

Star Trek Cast Gets a Raise as Pine and Quinto Locked in for Star Trek 4

4 hours ago | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

After a somewhat shaky development process, production is getting underway on Star Trek 3—likely titled Star Trek Beyond—imminently. When J.J. Abrams departed the franchise’s director’s chair for Star Wars, Paramount and Skydance were left looking for a new captain. Bob Orci initially signed on to co-write and direct, making his helming debut on a massive franchise sequel, but Paramount wasn’t happy with the direction of his script, and he subsequently bowed out. The studio then set Simon Pegg and Doug Jung to write the screenplay and landed Fast & Furious veteran Justin Lin to direct in the hopes of finally launching the Trek franchise into “massive blockbuster” territory, but it appears that the production hit one final snag on the way to filming. Per THR, the studio’s deals with the actors became a point of contention. The Enterprise crew received only nominal raises for Star Trek Into Darkness »

‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ ‘The Walking Dead,’ ‘Interstellar’ Shine at Saturn Awards

Interstellar” took the most wins at the 41st annual Saturn Awards, taking six awards including top science fiction film. But “Guardians of the Galaxy” also had a big night, taking top comicbook film, best director and best actor for Chris Pratt.

Jonathan Nolan accepted the screenwriting honor for “Interstellar.” He quipped ” ‘Interstellar’ is the story of a man who goes on an arduous journey, comes back 100 years later to find that nobody remembers him or gives a f–k about what he was doing. It’s a pretty good metaphor for writing a studio film.”

“Guardians” director James Gunn accepted for Pratt, then was recalled to the podium twice more in quick succession to accept his own kudos and the top honor for the film. Gunn eschewed the “cocktail attire” dress code for a black sweatshirt emblazoned with a kitten. Gunn read a message from Pratt: “James Gunn is the future. »

Meghan McCain Urges Republicans to Support Marriage Equality

11 minutes ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

With presidential candidate Mike Huckabee immediately vowing to stand against the Supreme Court ruling that made same-sex marriage a right, it’s clear the fight for Lgbtq equality isn’t over. But Meghan McCain thinks it should be.

“Republicans have to move on from this, or become relics,” said McCain, the TV personality and writer who is also the daughter of Arizona senator John McCain, the 2008 Republican nominee for president.

“The Gop’s nominee in 2016 has to support this ruling,” she continued. “I think any anti-equality rhetoric will be lethal. We live in a world now where the reaction to Caitlyn Jenner is overwhelmingly positive and loving and accepting.”

She also got in a dig at Huckabee: “I’ve said this before, but Huckabee is one of the great imbeciles of American politics.”

Same-sex marriage and Lgbtq equality have long been important issues for McCain, who’s on the board of directors at GLAAD. »

Kirk and Spock Will Not Die in Star Trek 3, Will Live to See Star Trek 4

45 minutes ago | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

According to The Hollywood Reporter, both Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto have signed on for Star Trek 4, despite the fact that Star Trek 3 has just started filming. THR says the move was a condition of Pine and Quinto's huge raises for the third film, which the duo won by arguing that they are way more famous now than when they signed on for the series back in 2007. (There is also a complicated bit about California labor laws and seven-year contracts.) If nothing else, this news proves that neither Kirk nor Spock will die in Star Trek 3 — or if they do, they'll just be brought back from the dead, a franchise-preserving move both the original film series and ST3 director Justin Lin are intimately familiar with. As Spock once said, the needs of the many executives outweigh the needs of the actor. »

Donald Trump-Univision Feud Escalates with Mutual Bans, Jorge Ramos Disclosure

46 minutes ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The war of words between Donald Trump and Univision escalated Friday, with social media postings fanning the flames.

Trump sent a letter to Univision CEO Randy Falco on Friday banning Univision employees from using his Trump National Doral hotel and golf course complex, which sits adjacent to one of three large campuses that the Spanish-language media giant has in Miami. Trump’s letter to Falco was first reported by Politico.

Trump’s move may have been in response to an internal memo Univision sent to employees on Thursday telling staffers not to patronize any Trump hotel or property while conducting company business. That came on the heels of Univision pulling the plug Wednesday on its deal to carry the Trump Organization’s Miss USA and Miss Universe beauty pageants after Trump made disparaging remarks about Mexican immigrants in connection with border control issues.

Trump has declared himself a candidate for the Gop president nomination. »
