Behold the most bizarre McDonald’s locations around the world
McDonald’s is not exactly most people’s idea of a destination restaurant. So it may be somewhat of a surprise to discover that, contrary to popular belief, all McDonald’s are not created equal. Mental Floss has put together a list of the 13 most unexpected and unusual McDonald’s locations around the world.
A transcendent season finale brings a transition season of Orange Is The New Black to a close
The closing sequence of “Trust No Bitch” is one of the finest moments Orange Is The New Black has, and ever will, produce. It speaks to the heart of the series, and the idea that these women—at the end of the day—are looking for a glimpse of freedom. When the opportunity to journey out into the lake just beyond the fence arrives, almost everyone hesitates: is this a trick? But they each eventually realize that regardless of what has created this opportunity, it offers them a taste of what it’s like to be “free.” None of them see this as an opportunity for real freedom—there’s nowhere to run, barring an exhausting swim across the lake. Instead, it is a chance to feel lighter, and for a brief moment trick yourself into believing that this is your life.
What’d you think of Orange Is The New Black’s third season as a whole? Favorite storyline? Least favorite? Most improved character?
The jizz stays in the picture: 25 films and TV episodes about sperm
Hollywood finds sperm hilarious—donating it, stealing it (or both, as in Ted 2, out this week), spraying it, accidentally drinking it, whatever. That is a comedy well that never runs dry—or a dramatic one, for that matter. Because what easier way to bring up issues around identity, family, and responsibility than by throwing in a plot line that reunites donor with offspring? Below, a lovin’ spoonful of some of those seminal—semenal?—works of big and small screen.
They Might Be Giants covers Destiny’s Child’s “Bills, Bills, Bills”
They Might Be Giants are responsible for one of the all-time great A.V. Undercover episodes—a 2011 version of Chumbawamba’s “Tubthumping” recorded in our old round room, and featuring a backing chorus made up of A.V. Club employees and friends. (Their idea, by the way.) We coaxed them back with the promise of a bigger, less round room and a new list of songs. They settled on the 1999 Destiny’s Child hit “Bills, Bills, Bills,” a song that they weren’t terribly familiar with, but whose charms quickly won them over. They enjoyed playing the song so much that they’ve decided to make it part of their 2015 Dial-A-Song series, a revival of their old answering-machine concept updated for a glorious new age
A real-life hedgehog takes on Sonic
In a recent episode of Mashable series The Watercooler, a real-life hedgehog gets the chance to traverse the trails of Sonic The Hedgehog. Placed in a what was jokingly deemed a “high-budget replica of the classic Sega game,” Elvis the hedgehog took a day off from his San Diego Zoo duties to see how many gold rings he could snag, and it’s adorable. Watch below to see his final score.
