Washington (
i/ˈwɒʃɪŋtən/) is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States located north of Oregon, west of Idaho and south of the Canadian province of British Columbia, on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. Washington was carved out of the western part of Washington Territory which had been ceded by Britain in 1846 by the Oregon Treaty as settlement of the Oregon Boundary Dispute. It was admitted to the Union as the 42nd state in 1889.
Washington is the 18th most extensive and the 13th most populous of the 50 United States. Approximately 60 percent of Washington's residents live in the Seattle metropolitan area, the center of transportation, business, and industry along the Puget Sound region of the Salish Sea, an inlet of the Pacific consisting of numerous islands, deep fjords, and bays carved out by glaciers. The remainder of the state consists of deep rainforests in the west, mountain ranges in the west, center, northeast and far southeast, and a semi-arid eastern basin given over to intensive agriculture. Washington is the second most populous state on the west coast and in the western United States after California.

Yep. Washington State is amazing, the coast has Long Beach which is the world's longest beach and it can be driven on, beautiful rain forests, tidal estuaries, rugged mountains in the Cascades, fertile farm lands and rugged barren land that is looks as if time has forgotten to change and more fertile land loaded with orchards and vineyards. I often say that every state in the US could be a country to itself and Washington is living proof. Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park/Wanapum Recreational Area is a 7,470-acre state park at Vantage, Washington including 27,000 feet of freshwater shoreline on the Wanapum Reservoir on the Columbia River. -

Caught this today on Highway 2 just out of Wenatchee. WSP had their aircraft up to catch speeders in the 60mph section of Hwy 2. Apparently there was a "DRE" drug recognition expert conference up in Lake Chelan today- so the WSP plane caught several marked and unmarked (and a motorcycle) doing well above the speed limit (26mph over in at least once case) The aircraft stopped calling out the speeds until ground units would confirm they were or were not a police car. Washington State is amazing, the coast has Long Beach which is the world's longest beach and it can be driven on, beautiful rain forests, tidal estuaries, rugged mountains in the Cascades, fertile farm lands and rugged barren land that is looks as if time has forgotten to change and more fertile land loaded with orchards and vineyards.

Washington State Patrol Aircraft catches multiple police cars speeding and does nothing.

Caught this today on Highway 2 just out of Wenatchee. WSP had their aircraft up to catch speeders in the 60mph section of Hwy 2. Apparently there was a "DRE" drug recognition expert conference up in Lake Chelan today- so the WSP plane caught several marked and unmarked (and a motorcycle) doing well above the speed limit (26mph over in at least once case)
The aircraft stopped calling out the speeds until ground units would confirm they were or were not a police car. If they were a police car they didn't get stopped.
Watch the video and see what you think. Seems like the Washington State Patrol is okay with officers driving 20+ mph over the limit when not responding to any call or emergency.

Revisited Creek #1 and had a very successful day. Didn't move a lot of material, but found a fair amount of gold right where we thought it ought to be! I just can't believe how much black sand and magnetite there is here and how loaded the sluice box gets. We'll be exploring more of this creek over the next couple weeks! -

Washington lawmakers are considering Senate Bill 5052, which would regulate medical marijuana the same way recreational cannabis is regulated, something medical marijuana users have feared since recreational marijuana was legalized.
The bill essentially would put the Washington State Liquor Control Board in charge of regulating medical marijuana and has received wide support from legislators. Medical marijuana users – and local dispensaries – are not thrilled with the prospect of these changes if the bill is passed into law. Darren McCrea, owner of Spocannibis, would rather legislators not get involved in regulating medical marijuana and “just leave it the way it is."
McCrea not only owns the Spocannibis dispensary but also used marijuana to treat rheumatoid arthritis.
Unfortunately for McCrea and others like him, there's clear support, as indicated by a public hearing in Olympia Thursday, for some sort of licensing of medical marijuana.
“Recreational users or the recreational sale of marijuana are subject to the regulations adopted by the liquor control board but there are no equivalent regulations for the medical market,” Kathy Buchli, coordinator / counsel for the Senate Health Care Committee, said during a hearing Thursday.
When asked who regulates the medical marijuana market, Buchli replied, “The medical market is not regulated.”
The cannabis patient protection act would change that; it would require state quality testing of marijuana and reducing the amount of cannabis that can be grown in a person's home. Patients today are permitted 15 plants and 24 ounces and possession limits will be six plants unless a healthcare provider believes in their professional opinion that they should qualify for up to 15 plants.
McCrea said that amount is not enough medication for patients to remain medicated for three months.
The bill would also cost McCrea what he says is 80 percent of his sales, and there would be no more dried marijuana, just edibles and oils.
“There's a lot of medicine in the flower that is not carried on into the oil that they would limit us to be able to carry only oils and medicals, and for myself oil doesn't work for me, I need to smoke flower," McCrea said.
The bill calls for medical dispensaries to be licensed under the recreational system but McCrea worries it will drive up their prices, reduce access and put him out of business. Recreational pot is heavily taxed and bringing in millions of dollars to the state's treasury, however part of SB 5052 is a provision that would allow medical marijuana dispensaries to apply for a tax exemption waiver.

This animation was created and rendered entirely in MicroStation V8i SS3 using the Luxology render engine. It shows Interstate 90 east of Snoqualmie Pass along Keechelus Lake in the Cascade Mountains of Washington State. The traffic animation covers about 7 miles of a WSDOT project that will ultimately encompass 15 miles of I-90 in Washington State. The total forested terrain in this animation is about 75 sq. miles. I created three 3d Fir Tree cells and used the Populate tool to plant 23000 of them within approx. 500 feet of the roadway. The total render time was probably about 1 week in total.

The elk on the wildlife overcrossing are pre-animated models which were also added in post using Adobe After Effects.

Former Washington state NAACP leader Rachel Dolezal, who drew national attention after being accused of lying about her racial background, has violated ethics rules while heading a police oversight commission, a senior city official said on Wednesday.
Investigators hired by the city of Spokane to probe a whistleblower complaint found Dolezal had publicly named citizens who made complaints against police officers, in violation of confidentiality rules, City Council President Ben Stuckart said.
"There were multiple occasions at open public meetings, that were recorded, where names of complainants were discussed in the open and they should have been confidential," Stuckart said, calling on her to resign from the commission.
Dolezal, 37, resigned this week as president of the Spokane chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, a leading civil rights organization, amid reports she was falsely claiming to be African-American.
Dolezal has told U.S. media she identifies as black, and the controversy has triggered a national debate over the bounds of racial identity and self-identification.
She was raised in a home with adopted black siblings and enrolled at historically black Howard University, according to a white Montana couple who told U.S. media they are her biological parents.
Dolezal did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The ethics allegations against Dolezal, and two other commission members, stem from the findings of two independent lawyers hired by the eastern Washington city to investigate an April 16 whistleblower complaint by a Spokane employee. The report was published on Wednesday.
In addition to the confidentiality issues, the probe found Dolezal engaged in workplace harassment as head of the Office of Police Ombudsman Commission, Stuckart said, without elaborating.
The Spokane City Council will meet on Thursday to discuss whether to remove Dolezal from the post, and whether to file an ethics complaint against her with another commission, he said.
A city human rights commission also called for Dolezal to resign on Tuesday, and Eastern Washington University, where she taught Africana studies, said she was no longer employed there.
Apart from the confidentiality breach, the lawyers found the whistleblower faced intimidating, hostile and offensive behavior from Dolezal and other commissioners.
Separately, the city is investigating whether Dolezal violated city rules when she identified herself as Caucasian, Native American, and black in her application for the job.

The transportation departments in Seattle and Washington state had some Jurassic World-flavored fun on Twitter with pictures of road hazard dinosaurs.
The exchange began Tuesday with a tweet from @wsdot_traffic, the Washington state Department of Transportation’s official Seattle-area traffic account, reporting a lack of prehistoric creatures on the roads.
“No dinosaurs on the roads this afternoon… and I don’t want to see any. But I do really want to see #JurassicWorld,” the tweet read.
The tweet received a reply from @seattledot, the Twitter account of the Seattle Department of Transportation.
“Might want to check your cameras again WSDOT, I think you’re missing something,” read the tweet, which was accompanied by a doctored photo of a Jurassic Park-style velociraptor standing in a busy roadway.
The state Department of Transportation’s main account, @wsdot, replied with a picture of a tyrannosaurus rex strapped to a flatbed truck with the hashtag, “#enddinosaurcruelty.”
The @seattledot account ended the exchange with a promise to investigate.
“That load is not properly secured. We are sending our Commercial Vehicle Enforcement/ Dinosaur Tamers to the scene,” the tweet read.

Humpback Mountain - Washington State

There is no officially maintained trail up Humpback Mountain, but there is a well-worn and easily followed path kept up by a few dedicated volunteers.
Expect a straightforward, rather steep approach for most the way up. On a good day, the view from the top stretches out from Mt Humpback’s rocky summit in every direction. To the north, are Granite and Bandera Mountain with the distinctive tooth of Kaleetan Peak rising behind. Immediately the east, Silver Peak and Abiel Peak surround Anette Lake and take up most of the skyline. To the south, a vast expanse of forested mountains stretches to the base of Mt Rainier.

Caught this today on Highway 2 just out of Wenatchee. WSP had their aircraft up to catch speeders in the 60mph section of Hwy 2. Apparently there was a "DRE" drug recognition expert conference up in Lake Chelan today- so the WSP plane caught several marked and unmarked (and a motorcycle) doing well above the speed limit (26mph over in at least once case) The aircraft stopped calling out the speeds until ground units would confirm they were or were not a police car. If they were a police car they didn't get stopped. Watch the video and see what you think. Seems like the Washington State Patrol is okay with officers driving 20+ mph over the limit when not responding to any call or emergency.- published: 09 Oct 2014

January 22, 2015 TV Washington http://MOXNews.com Washington lawmakers are considering Senate Bill 5052, which would regulate medical marijuana the same way recreational cannabis is regulated, something medical marijuana users have feared since recreational marijuana was legalized. The bill essentially would put the Washington State Liquor Control Board in charge of regulating medical marijuana and has received wide support from legislators. Medical marijuana users – and local dispensaries – are not thrilled with the prospect of these changes if the bill is passed into law. Darren McCrea, owner of Spocannibis, would rather legislators not get involved in regulating medical marijuana and “just leave it the way it is." McCrea not only owns the Spocannibis dispensary but also used marijuana to treat rheumatoid arthritis. Unfortunately for McCrea and others like him, there's clear support, as indicated by a public hearing in Olympia Thursday, for some sort of licensing of medical marijuana. “Recreational users or the recreational sale of marijuana are subject to the regulations adopted by the liquor control board but there are no equivalent regulations for the medical market,” Kathy Buchli, coordinator / counsel for the Senate Health Care Committee, said during a hearing Thursday. When asked who regulates the medical marijuana market, Buchli replied, “The medical market is not regulated.” The cannabis patient protection act would change that; it would require state quality testing of marijuana and reducing the amount of cannabis that can be grown in a person's home. Patients today are permitted 15 plants and 24 ounces and possession limits will be six plants unless a healthcare provider believes in their professional opinion that they should qualify for up to 15 plants. McCrea said that amount is not enough medication for patients to remain medicated for three months. The bill would also cost McCrea what he says is 80 percent of his sales, and there would be no more dried marijuana, just edibles and oils. “There's a lot of medicine in the flower that is not carried on into the oil that they would limit us to be able to carry only oils and medicals, and for myself oil doesn't work for me, I need to smoke flower," McCrea said. The bill calls for medical dispensaries to be licensed under the recreational system but McCrea worries it will drive up their prices, reduce access and put him out of business. Recreational pot is heavily taxed and bringing in millions of dollars to the state's treasury, however part of SB 5052 is a provision that would allow medical marijuana dispensaries to apply for a tax exemption waiver.- published: 23 Jan 2015

MicroStation animated drive-thru / fly-by
This animation was created and rendered entirely in MicroStation V8i SS3 using the Luxology render engine. It shows Interstate 90 east of Snoqualmie Pass along Keechelus Lake in the Cascade Mountains of Washington State. The traffic animation covers about 7 miles of a WSDOT project that will ultimately encompass 15 miles of I-90 in Washington State. The total forested terrain in this animation is about 75 sq. miles. I created three 3d Fir Tree cells and used the Populate tool to plant 23000 of them within approx. 500 feet of the roadway. The trees beyond this area are actually a fur material using an image of one of the trees for fur billboarding. I also used this fur billboarding technique to create the bushes in the Gold Creek Vicinity, along the water’s edge, and at the wildlife crossing. The exposed rock cuts are mapped to the terrain mesh using material projection direction draping. The rendering was done on our blade server render farm (14 nodes) and required 2 separate renders, one for the drivers POV and one for the aerial view. The total render time was probably about 1 week in total. Titles, transitions, and audio were added during editing in Adobe Premiere Pro. The elk on the wildlife overcrossing are pre-animated models which were also added in post using Adobe After Effects.- published: 17 Jun 2015

City probe finds Washington state ex-NAACP official violated ethics rules
Former Washington state NAACP leader Rachel Dolezal, who drew national attention after being accused of lying about her racial background, has violated ethics rules while heading a police oversight commission, a senior city official said on Wednesday. Investigators hired by the city of Spokane to probe a whistleblower complaint found Dolezal had publicly named citizens who made complaints against police officers, in violation of confidentiality rules, City Council President Ben Stuckart said. "There were multiple occasions at open public meetings, that were recorded, where names of complainants were discussed in the open and they should have been confidential," Stuckart said, calling on her to resign from the commission. Dolezal, 37, resigned this week as president of the Spokane chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, a leading civil rights organization, amid reports she was falsely claiming to be African-American. Dolezal has told U.S. media she identifies as black, and the controversy has triggered a national debate over the bounds of racial identity and self-identification. She was raised in a home with adopted black siblings and enrolled at historically black Howard University, according to a white Montana couple who told U.S. media they are her biological parents. Dolezal did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The ethics allegations against Dolezal, and two other commission members, stem from the findings of two independent lawyers hired by the eastern Washington city to investigate an April 16 whistleblower complaint by a Spokane employee. The report was published on Wednesday. In addition to the confidentiality issues, the probe found Dolezal engaged in workplace harassment as head of the Office of Police Ombudsman Commission, Stuckart said, without elaborating. The Spokane City Council will meet on Thursday to discuss whether to remove Dolezal from the post, and whether to file an ethics complaint against her with another commission, he said. A city human rights commission also called for Dolezal to resign on Tuesday, and Eastern Washington University, where she taught Africana studies, said she was no longer employed there. Apart from the confidentiality breach, the lawyers found the whistleblower faced intimidating, hostile and offensive behavior from Dolezal and other commissioners. Separately, the city is investigating whether Dolezal violated city rules when she identified herself as Caucasian, Native American, and black in her application for the job. (Reporting by Eric M. The waivers weren’t forthcoming, but Washington would have a much harder time ignoring politically powerful California and Texas, which have the two largest economies in the United States. State-based guest-worker programs admittedly bring up some potentially thorny issues ...
