The Reading Fightin Phils (also called the Reading Fightins or Fightins) are a minor league baseball team based in Reading, Pennsylvania, playing in the Eastern Division of the Eastern League. The team plays their home games at FirstEnergy Stadium. The Reading Fightin Phils were founded in 1967 as the Reading Phillies (commonly referred to as the R-Phils) and they are the Double-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies since 1967 and this affiliation is currently tied for the longest affiliation in Minor League Baseball. The team has been owned by the Phillies since 2008.
The franchise has always been based in Reading and maintained its original name "Reading Phillies" from its establishment in 1967 through 2012. The Reading Fightin Phils are the oldest team in the Eastern League to play in their original and current city with the most seasons under their original name (Reading Phillies).
The Fightin Phils' stadium, FirstEnergy Stadium which was built in 1951 and was previously known as Reading Municipal Memorial Stadium, has been home to the Reading Fightin Phils since their establishment in 1967. The stadium seats 9,000 fans, and on July 3, 2007, the stadium celebrated their ten-millionth fan to attend a game.
The Philadelphia Phillies are an American professional baseball team based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They are the oldest continuous, one-name, one-city franchise in all of professional American sports, dating to 1883. The Phillies are a member of the Eastern Division of Major League Baseball's National League (NL). Since 2004, the team's home has been Citizens Bank Park which is located in South Philadelphia.
The Phillies have won two World Series championships (against the Kansas City Royals in 1980 and the Tampa Bay Rays in 2008) and seven National League pennants, the first of which came in 1915. The franchise has also experienced long periods of struggle. Since the first modern World Series was played in 1903, the Phillies played 77 consecutive seasons (and 97 seasons from the club's establishment) to win their first World Series—longer than any other of the 16 teams that made up the major leagues for the first half of the 20th century. The 77 season drought is the fourth longest World Series drought in Major League Baseball history. The longevity of the franchise and its history of adversity have earned it the dubious distinction of having lost the most games of any team in the history of American professional sports. Despite the team's lack of success historically, they are still one of the more successful franchises since the start of the Divisional Era in Major League Baseball. The Phillies won their division 11 times, which ranks 6th among all teams and 4th in the National League, including five consecutively from 2007 to 2011.

Elliot Lawrence (born Elliott Lawrence Broza, February 14, 1925) is an American jazz pianist and bandleader.
Son of the broadcaster Stan Lee Broza, Lawrence led his first dance band at age 20, but he played swing at the time its heyday was coming to a close. He recorded copiously as a bandleader for Columbia, Decca, King, Fantasy, Vik, and SESAC between 1946 and 1960. Lawrence is currently music director for the Tony awards show.
Elliot Lawrence was born Elliot Lawrence Broza on February 14, 1925 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His parents, Stan Lee Broza and Esther Broza were radio and television pioneers. In 1927 they created and produced the Horn and Hardart Children’s Hour, which ran on WCAU radio from 1927–1958 and concurrently on television from 1948–1958. Stan Lee Broza was also the first president of the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia from 1962-1963. Stan Lee was the host of the Children’ Hour and Esther produced it. Childhood stars that appeared on the show include Eddie Fisher, Frankie Avalon, Joey Bishop, Bernadette Peters and best selling author Jacqueline Susann. The idea for The Children’s Hour was originally born by Stan Lee when a new shopping mall in Philadelphia was looking to sponsor a show on the radio. He came up with the idea to create a variety show in which talented children would sing and perform. While looking for sponsors, one of Stan Lees’ first customers was William Paley, who bought advertising time on WCAU for his fathers cigar shop. William Paley went on to become the chairman of CBS. Stan Lee Broza and Esther Broza were pioneers of broadcasting and of the variety show. Both are in the Philadelphia Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
Delaware County String Band recording of "The Fightin' Phils" transferred by PhilaVideo from a 78 record. Song written by bandleader Elliot Lawrence and arranger Bix Reichner. It sold over 5,000 copies during the 1950 season. The recording was intended to be strictly a publicity stunt and the Elliot Lawrence band never actually recorded the song. If I am not mistaken, this is the only recording of the song ever made. The video is a home movie of the Elliot Lawrence band at Shibe Park on April 18, 1950; the Elliot Lawrence band performs at Shibe Park on Opening Day of 1950 with the Phillies hosting the Dodgers which explains the bunting throughout the stadium. The short bit of game action shows Robin Roberts walking to the mound and Richie Ashburn scoring from first on a double to center by...
