Godhra is a town and originally the name came from gou which means "cow" and dhara which has two meanings: one in Sanskrit which means "hold" or "land" and the other in Hindi which means "flow". So, identically it means The Land of the Cow, a municipality in Panchmahal district in Indian state of Gujarat. It is the administrative headquarters of the Panchmahal district.
Godhra is also one of the religious places in the India which has four bethaks (temples) for Vaishnav Sampraday (Vaisnal Community). Two bethaks are of Lord Gokulnathji, and one each for Lord Gusaiji and Lord Mahaprabhuji. Godhra is the only city in India that has all three bhaitaks of the mahaprabhuji, gusianji,and gokulnathji. Godhra also has three beautiful Jain temples. The main idol ('Mul Nayak') in the main Jain Temple is that of Tirthankar Bhagawan Shantinath.
Godhra is widely infamous in India and internationally for being the starting point of the 2002 Gujarat violence. Statewide communal riots between Hindus and Muslims began after the Godhra train burning incident near the Godhra railway station on 27 February 2002, when local Muslim mobs attacked a train burning alive Hindu pilgrims in a planned conspiracy, as ruled in a subsequent verdict of the Gujarat High Court.

Karan Thapar is one of India's television commentators and interviewers. He is the youngest child of General P. N. Thapar(who became General because of being near to Nehru's dynasty) and Mrs. Bimla Thapar.
An alumnus of The Doon School and the Stowe School, he graduated with a degree in Economics and Political Philosophy from Pembroke College, Cambridge in 1977. In the same year, he was also President of the Cambridge Union. He subsequently obtained a doctorate in International Relations from St Antony's College, Oxford.
He began his career in journalism with The Times in Lagos, Nigeria and later worked as their Leader Writer on the Indian subcontinent till 1981. In 1982 he joined London Weekend Television where he worked for the next 11 years. He then moved to India where he worked with The Hindustan Times Television Group, Home TV and United Television before setting up his own production house in August 2001, Infotainment Television, which makes programmes for amongst others BBC, Doordarshan and Channel News Asia.

"57 die in ghastly attack on train" ran the Times of India's headline; "Mob targets Ramsevaks [Devotees of Rama] returning from Ayodhya"; "58 killed in attack on train with Karsevaks [volunteers]" (The Indian Express); "1500-strong mob butcher 57 Ramsevaks on Sabarmati Express" (The Asian Age). But the BBC's announcement had a very different tone: "58 Hindu 'extremists' burned to death" ... or Agence France Press on March 2nd: "A train full of Hindu 'extremists' was burnt."
A deluge of anguished news followed about a "Muslim genocide": "Mass killings of Muslims in reprisal riots" (NYT, March 5th), "The authorities ... share the prejudices of the Hindu gangs who have been busy pulping their Muslim neighbours" (The Observer, March 4th). We were told that Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Gujarat, intended to eradicate Muslims from the State — more than 9% of Gujarat's population, in other words five million people. We read that the police was conniving in the mass slaughter and did nothing to prevent it. Narendra Modi was compared to Hitler, or Nero. We shuddered reading the reports describing rapes and various horrors, supposedly inflicted on Muslims by Hindus.

Past the barren terrain of Bharatpur, Bayana and Gangapur, the Rajdhani crosses Sawai Madhopur, after which it travels for sometime past the hills forming the outer boundary of the Ranthambhor Tiger Reserve, curving sharply along this stretch. The first stop is at Kota, 458 kilometres away, covered in this instance in around 4 hours and 50 minutes at an average speed of over 95 kmph.
The Rajdhani continues its south-western sprint post Kota, racing through the forests and sharp elongated curves of the Dara Pass. Subsequently, it skips the major stations of Shamgarh and Nagda, crosses the Chambal river, and sedately crosses the station of Ratlam, having covered 731 kilometres in seven hours and 30 minutes at a whopping average speed of 96 kmph.
As evening descends, the Rajdhani is hit by a 100 kmph barrier and snakes through the Panch Pipla hill ranges. We enter the state of Gujarat after Dahod and post Godhra, are able to hit up to 120 kmph where the Mumbai Rajdhani crosses us with a Ghaziabad WAP5. At Vadodara, we change traction from electric to diesel and are subsequently powered by a Golden Rock WDP3A. As we head through coastal Gujarat, we undertake two major station skips of Bharuch and Surat at a steady pace, also crossing the Narmada river after Bharuch.
