Chengdu is one of the most important economic, transportation, and communication centers in Western China. According to the 2007 Public Appraisal for Best Chinese Cities for Investment, Chengdu was chosen as one of the top ten cities to invest in out of a total of 280 urban centers in China. It was recently named China's 4th-most livable city by China Daily.
The fertile Chengdu Plain, on which Chengdu is located, is also known as the "Country of Heaven" (天府之国, Tiānfǔzhiguó), a phrase also often translated as "The Land of Abundance". The discovery of the Jinsha site suggests the area of Chengdu had become the center of the bronze ageSanxingdui culture around the time of the establishment of the state of Shu, prior to its annexation by Qin in 316 BC.
It's the season finale of Huang's World, and this time we're in Chengdu. Eddie, also known as The Human Panda, returns to his bamboo roots and discovers that pandas watch panda porn. He gets a taste of Chengdu traditions with hip hop pioneer DJ SuperBestFriend, and eats pig brain ma po tofu at a "fly restaurant" on the brink of demolition.

The first thing we had to eat, although not technically Sichuan food, was a Chinese pastry, called huoshao, filled with a juicy, meaty, wonderful filling that was served fresh from the oven. We were super lucky to get the first ones right out of the oven after lining up for around 20 minutes. This place was found just behind Chunxi lu (Chunxi road) in Chengdu's downtown Core.

We shared a huge feast together at a local fly restaurant on the streetside in Chengdu. This was TRUE SICHUAN FOOD. Spicy, numbing, and so fragrant. We decided that this video together would be more casual, just talk about whatever popped into our heads, less planning, and more relaxing. More chinese tea, more sichuan food, and truly enjoying the awesome Sichuan food in Chengdu.

I personally found the food here to be so-so, not too special, but not too repulsive (except for the intestine, it was really horrible, actually tasted like crap!). I'm more of a fan of the noodles, hotpot, and 小吃 “small snacks" here in Chengdu, but loved trying everything!

Chinese Food: Eating Sichuan Hot Pot in Chengdu With A Local Girl!
Eating Hot Pot in Sichuan is a MUST do thing if you visit. I also got to enjoy it with a local Chinese girl, one who also loves to eat, a wonderful experience! TRUE CHINESE FOOD!
Please like: www.facebook.com/thefoodranger
The first thing we had to eat, although not technically Sichuan food, was a Chinese pastry, called huoshao, filled with a juicy, meaty, wonderful filling that was served fresh from the oven. We were super lucky to get the first ones right out of the oven after lining up for around 20 minutes. This place was found just behind Chunxi lu (Chunxi road) in Chengdu's downtown Core.
After feasting on that beautiful snack, we had to go for the real meal, the true authentic Sichuan food, Hot Pot. This is the first time I have showcased Sichuan Hot Pot in my videos. I was waiting for the right time to showcase it, and after searching for a good location and also a good partner to eat it with me (hot pot is not a one person meal), I was set to film!
Sichuan Hot Pot is basically a huge wok filled with hot chili oil and copious amounts of Sichuan chili peppers and Sichuan numbing peppers. You place raw ingredients like raw sliced beef and raw lotus root into this boiling chili oil, and then when it's ready to eat, they take on the flavour of the substance they are boiled in. It gets spicier over time. After 40 minutes of eating hot pot, you notice that it is much much spicier than it was when you first started eating.
As my friend points out in the video, eating hotpot at night with friends is the true lifestyle of Chengdu people. Eating hot pot is what you do when you want to go out with friends and relax after work and enjoy some beautiful food (美食). They literally do call it beautiful food here, that's the lifestyle!

Chinese Tea in a Chengdu Teahouse | Feasting with Austin Guidry
Chengdu is famous for it's tea culture. Sipping Chinese tea is a must! I was lucky to eat Sichuan food and chat with Austin Guidry in Chengdu again, this time, a more casual chat about living in China. Please like: www.facebook.com/thefoodranger

Chapter 108 is one of 130 Chapters of Paul Hodge's incredible "ground breaking" November, 2014 High Definition (HD) Video Book, "2014 SOLO AROUND WORLD IN 25 DAYS, SEPT 5 - SEPT 30, 2014”. After flying all night from London and being awake for 20+ hours, Paul’s HD video chronicles his September 23, 2014 Tuesday morning arrival at Chengdu, China’s Shuangliu International Airport and his taxi ride from the airport to his hotel in Chengdu’s city center. Paul’s taxi ride covered about 10 miles, took about 30 minutes and cost about $ 15.00.
Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is the major international airport serving Chengdu. It is about 10 miles southwest of Chengdu city center and is the busiest airport in western China. The airport is ranked as one of the world's top 50 busiest airports in terms of passenger traffic, handling 35,000.000+ in 2013. It is the 5th busiest airport in China in terms of passenger traffic and cargo.
To many Westerners, a lot of China’s incredibly large cities are a mystery. Because of this, Paul chose to adventure to southwestern China and explore the giant, mysterious cities of Chengdu and Chongqing. Chengdu is the provincial capital of Sichuan Province, is the third fastest growing economy in China and is China’s fourth most populace city. The City has a 14,000,000+ population of which 7,100,000+ live in the city's nine urban districts and 6,700,000+ live in the surrounding suburbs/rural areas. Chengdu is the economic, transportation and communications powerhouse in Western China. Many Fortune 500 companies have set up operations in the Chengdu area. While companies like Cisco, Intel and Toyota have established manufacturing operations, the City has also attracted a lot of other companies such as Microsoft, IBM, Siemans, Lenovo and many others. Chengdu is home to the internationally recognized Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. The giant panda is a Chinese national treasure and is one of the rarest animals in the world. The total number of giant pandas is estimated to be about 1,500, 80 percent of which live in Sichuan Province. The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is internationally recognized for its success in saving the Giant Panda species.
Paul’s HD Video Book "2014 SOLO AROUND WORLD IN 25 DAYS, SEPT 5 - SEPT 30, 2014” is a “first” on YouTube because: 1) Paul utilizes a highbred documentary filmmaking Cinéma Vérité style to document the extreme physical and logistical challenges in exploring solo around the world, 2) Paul’s HD video series is the “first ever” published on YouTube to include 130 detailed HD video chapters and 12+ hours of edited, original HD film taken by Paul Hodge from all over the world and 3) Paul's HD video book is Paul's fifth video book published on YouTube. By providing viewers with such incredibly detailed HD videos and fresh commentaries, author Paul Hodge shows what it realistically takes to plan and successfully execute the life changing "bucket list" achievement of adventuring solo around our wonderful Planet Earth.
Paul is one of the few people in this World to have explored and adventured around our planet five times in the last six years!! In addition to his September, 2014 SoloAroundWorld adventure, Paul’s fourth 24 day solo around the world adventure was in November, 2013 (See Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBGJnS9-fLg), his third 47 day solo around the world quest was in June, 2012 (See Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RR6iXID_Asc ). His second 24 day solo quest ended November, 2011 (See Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch v=irJ4Wn13SZo ) and his first world exploration was for 7+ months ending July 2008 (See Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjo8niCfHmE)
Paul’s Hodge’s sixth SoloAroundWorld adventure will start October, 2015 and will follow Paul’s February 2015 coverage of Rio Carnival 2015.
Paul's HD video book, “2014 SOLO AROUND WORLD IN 25 DAYS, SEPT 5 - SEPT 30, 2014” is intended to encourage you, the viewer, to “seize the day" and venture out into our fantastic World to achieve your "bucket list" adventures and dreams.

Dan Dan Noodles and Stinky Tofu With a Local Girl in Chengdu
Jinli street features some of Chengdu's most famous street foods. We came to shoot the Sichuan foods that tourists eat, and let me tell you, the food wasn't bad (not quite as amazing as some other lesser known places, but still good), in particular, the stinky tofu was pretty nice.
Please like: www.facebook.com/thefoodranger
My good friend Chuchu came along for the eating experience. We sampled 6 snacks on the street. The Dan dan noodles were OK, but the stinky tofu ended up being quite nice, apart from the slight slight stench that it gave off, it was very satisfying, mostly from the garlic chili sauce it was soaked in.
We also sampled Yi Gen Mian (One noodle) , which was basically a really long noodle with a knot in the end in a classic spicy beef noodle soup broth with lots of cilantro.
All the snacks were delicious. The San Da Pao (three cannons) glutinous rice balls soaked in red sugar were nice too, and very fun to watch being made.
All in all, the Sichuan foods found here at Jinli street were fun to try and fun to film. I would recommend coming here if you are on a short trip to Chengdu and want to experience some quick street snacks without having to source out every single location. Everything was mostly pretty good. The best part about Jinli is the atmosphere and the fun of walking through a rebuilt old street with a classic China feel.
Thank you so much for watching my food and travel videos!

Sit back and relax as Eddie enjoys the finer things in life in this segment of Huang's World: Chengdu. We head to China's Dead Sea Resort, where Eddie "lightens up" with a refreshing salt burial, swims in one of the world's most crowded swimming pools, and samples some delicate baby pig dick. It's in Chengdu that he best understands the beauty of China's efficient, economical way of life.

Eating Classic Szechuan Cuisine on the Streetside in Chengdu
Chengdu's food is definitely unique. Always spicy and numbing and sometimes cleaner than others. Enjoy a classic Szechuan meal here! Please like my facebook page:

This food at this location was very unique and eating here felt like eating in old China.

Why do you pray? 'Cos there is passion going to waste And you'd let loving die in your haste Why do you have to lay awake? Why do you pray? To be on your own, to be on your own, You took a knife to my life but as long as you say your sorry, You took the sand from my hand but as long as you say you care, But I don't see your face anymore Throw your knuckles down to the floor Why do you have to lay awake? Why do you pray? 'Cos there is passion going to waste And you'd let loving die in your haste Why do you have to lay awake? Why do you pray?
