Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud Speech |
Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has died, royal officials have announced, weeks after he was admitted to hospital.
Abdullah, who had ruled since 2005 and was said to be aged about 90, had been suffering from a lung infection.
His 79-year-old half-brother, Salman, has been confirmed as the new king.
Within hours of his accession to the throne of the oil-rich kingdom, King Salman vowed to maintain the same policies as his predecessors.
"We will continue adhering to the correct policies which Saudi Arabia has followed since its establishment," he said in a speech broadcast on state television.
Abdullah had suffered frequent bouts of ill health in recent years, and King Salman had recently taken on the ailing monarch's responsibilities.
Prior to announcing Abdullah's death, Saudi television cut to Koranic verses, which often signifies the passing of a senior royal.
A statement said Abdullah had died at 01:00 (22:00 GMT Thursday).
Saudi Arabia under King Salman faces a number of challenges. The first is ensuring the succession passes smoothly without any divisive jockeying for power within the ruling family. Then there is the ongoing threat from jihadists, both at home and across its borders.
Saudi Arabia is now sandwiched between an aggressive Islamic State (IS) to the north and al-Qaeda in Yemen to the south. Saudi warplanes have joined the US-led coalition in air strikes against IS, but this is deeply unpopular with many Saudis.
The government has yet to find a way to cope with mild calls for reforms and is abusing anti-terror laws to silence reformers and punish its critics. Longer term, it faces a growing unemployment problem.
About half the population is under 25 and there are nowhere near enough meaningful jobs for young Saudis.
But the country does at least have oil in its favour. At below $45 a barrel Saudi Arabia is one of the very few exporting countries to still make big margins on production and exploration. That puts it in a powerful position on the world stage.
Another of the late king's half-brothers, Muqrin, who is in his late 60s, has been named the new crown prince, according to an official statement.
Abdullah, Salman and Muqrin are all sons of the founder of modern Saudi Arabia, King Abdulaziz, usually referred to as Ibn Saud, who died in 1953.
King Salman called on the royal family's Allegiance Council to recognise Muqrin as his heir.
In line with traditions of Wahhabism - the ultra-conservative form of Sunni Islam followed by the kingdom - Abdullah will be buried in an unmarked grave immediately after Friday prayers.
Frank Gardner says Saudi Arabia could face an increasing internal security problem following the death of King Abdullah
US President Barack Obama expressed his personal sympathies, and those of the American people, on Abdullah's death.
"As a leader, he was always candid and had the courage of his convictions. One of those convictions was his steadfast and passionate belief in the importance of the US-Saudi relationship as a force for stability and security in the Middle East and beyond," he said.
Vice-President Joe Biden tweeted that he would lead a delegation to Riyadh to pay respects.
UK Prime Minister David Cameron said King Abdullah would be remembered for his "commitment to peace and for strengthening understanding between faiths".
Jordan's King Abdullah II cut short a visit to Davos, Switzerland, to travel to Saudi Arabia, as Jordan's royal court declared 40 days of mourning.

Abdullah was the 13th of the 45 sons of King Abdulaziz. He is believed to have been born in August 1924 in Riyadh, although there is some dispute about his actual birth date.
In 1962 he was appointed commander of the Saudi National Guard, where he earned the respect and loyalty of the desert tribes.
When he came to the throne in 2005 he succeeded another half-brother, Fahd.
However, he had already been Saudi Arabia's de-facto leader for 10 years because his predecessor had been debilitated by a stroke.
Correspondents say King Abdullah was seen as a reformer at home, albeit a slow and steady one.
He allowed mild criticism of his government in the press, and hinted that more women should be allowed to work.
King Salman spent 48 years as governor of Riyadh Province before becoming crown prince and defence minister.

Believed born in Riyadh in August 1924, although actual date is disputed
His mother, Fahda, was the eighth of King Abdulaziz al-Saud's 22 wives

Became crown prince and first deputy prime minister in 1982 when King Fahd succeeded King Khalid
Succeeded to the throne in August 2005 following the death of King Fahd

Statement of the Guest of Honour, H.R.H. Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (Crown Prince, K.S.A.)
The House of Saud (Arabic: آل سعود Āl Saʻūd) is the ruling royal family of Saudi Arabia. The family has thousands of members. It is composed of the descendants of Muhammad bin Saud and his brothers, though the ruling faction of the family is primarily led by the descendants of Abdulaziz Ibn Saud.
The most influential member of the Royal family is the King of Saudi Arabia, currently King Salman. The throne was designed to pass from one son of the first king, Ibn Saud, to another. His deputy Muqrin bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is also from the ruling House of Saud, and the king-appointed cabinet includes more members of the royal family. While the monarchy is hereditary now, future Saudi kings will be chosen by a committee of Saudi princes, in line with a 2006 Royal Decree.[1]
The family is estimated to be composed of 15,000 members, but the majority of the power and wealth is possessed by a group of only about 2,000.[2][3]
The House of Saud has gone through three phases: the First Saudi State, the Second Saudi State, and the modern nation of Saudi Arabia. The First Saudi State marked the expansion of Wahhabism. The Second Saudi State was marked with continuous infighting. Modern Saudi Arabia wields considerable influence in the Middle East. The family has had conflicts with the Ottoman Empire, the Sharif of Mecca, the Al Rashid family of Ha'il, and numerous Islamist groups both inside and outside Saudi Arabia.
The head of the House of Saud is the King of Saudi Arabia who serves as Head of State and monarch of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The King holds almost absolute political power. The King appoints ministers to his cabinet who supervise their respective ministries in his name. The key ministries of Defence, the Interior, and Foreign Affairs are reserved for the Al Saud, as are most of the thirteen regional governorships. Most portfolios, however, such as Finance, Labor, Information, Planning, Petroleum Affairs and Industry, have traditionally been given to commoners, often with junior Al Saud members serving as their deputies. House of Saud family members also hold many of the Kingdom's critical military and governmental departmental posts. Ultimate power in the Kingdom has always rested upon the Al Saud, though support from the Ulema, the merchant community, and the population at large has been key to the maintenance of the royal family's political status quo.
Long term political and government appointments, such as those of King Abdullah, who was Commander of the National Guard from 1963 to 2010, former Crown Prince Sultan, who was Minister of Defence and Aviation from 1962 until his death in 2011, Prince Mutaib Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs from 1975 to 2009, former Crown Prince Nayef who was the Minister of Interior from 1975 to 2012, and the current King Salman, who was governor of the Riyadh Region from 1963 to 2011, have perpetuated the creation of fiefdoms where senior princes have, often, though not exclusively, co-mingled their personal wealth with that of their respective domains. They have often appointed their own sons to senior positions within their own fiefdom. Examples of these include Prince Mutaib bin Abdullah as assistant commander in the National Guard until 2010; Prince Khalid bin Sultan as assistant minister of defence until 2013; Prince Mansour bin Mutaib as assistant minister for Municipal and Rural Affairs until he replaced his father in 2009; and Prince Mohammed bin Nayef as assistant minister in the Interior Ministry. In cases, where portfolios have notably substantial budgets, appointments of younger, often full, brothers have been necessary, as deputies or vice ministers, ostensibly to share the wealth and the burdens of responsibility, of each fiefdom. Examples of these include Prince Abdul Rahman who was vice minister of defence and aviation under Prince Sultan; Prince Badr, deputy to King Abdullah in the National Guard; Prince Sattam, who was Deputy Riyadh Governor during King Salman's term; and Prince Ahmed, who held the deputy minister's portfolio under Prince Nayef's interior ministry.

Saudi Arabia is said to be the world's largest source of funds and promoter of Salafist jihadism, which forms the ideological basis of terrorist groups such as al-Qaeda, Taliban, ISIS and others. Donors in Saudi Arabia constitute the most significant source of funding to Sunni terrorist groups worldwide, according to Hillary Clinton. According to a secret December 2009 paper signed by the US secretary of state, "Saudi Arabia remains a critical financial support base for al-Qaida, the Taliban, LeT and other terrorist groups."
Reports have surfaced that the Saudi government supported the Iraqi insurgency in the 2000s.

"Innalillahiwainnailaihirojiun" RAJA Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud Meninggal Akibat Sakit Kritis.

Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has died in hospital, state TV says.
Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has died in hospital, state TV says.
The announcement, made early on Friday, said his brother, Salman, had become king.
Before the announcement, Saudi television cut to Koranic verses, which often signifies the death of a senior royal.
King Abdullah, who was said to be aged about 90, had been in hospital for several weeks suffering from a lung infection.
Abdullah came to the throne in 2005 but had suffered frequent bouts of ill health in recent years.
King Salman has succeeded Abdullah
King Salman, 79, had recently taken on the ailing monarch's responsibilities.
The late king's half brother Muqrin, who is in his late 60s, has been named the new crown prince, the official statement said.
All three are sons of the founder of modern Saudi Arabia, King Abdulaziz, usually referred to as Ibn Saud, who died in 1953.
King Salman called on the royal family's Allegiance Council to recognise Muqrin as his crown prince and heir.
"His Highness Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and all members of the family and the nation mourn the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, who passed away at exactly 1am this morning," the statement said.
Abdullah was the 13th of the 37 sons of King Abdulaziz. He is believed to have been born in August 1924 in Riyadh, although there is some dispute about his actual birth date.
He was seen as a reformer at home, albeit a slow and steady one.
He allowed mild criticism of his government in the press, and hinted that more women should be allowed to work.

What is Caliphates?
A documentary report all about Caliphates for homework/assignment.
A caliphate ( khilāfa) is a form of Islamic government led by a caliph —a person who claims to be a political and religious successor to the prophet Muhammad and a leader of the entire Muslim community. The Rashidun caliphs, who directly succeeded Muhammad as leaders of the Muslim community, were chosen through shura, a process of community consultation which some consider an early form of Islamic democracy. During the history of Islam after the Rashidun period, many Muslim states, almost all of them hereditary monarchies, have claimed to be caliphates.

A report on media submitted by Justice Brian Leveson in London stated that "today's journalism is reckless and irresponsible" and suggested that an 'independent regulatory authority' should be established to check and regulate the acts of media/journalism. As muslims are the most affected community by the onslaught of media today, we would like to discuss about the 'regulatory code' presented by Islam, according to which media should work.
1. The journalists and editors should understand that they will not be left scot-free but are accountable to their Lord. They have to return and give an account of their deeds to their Lord one day. "(Remember!) that the two receivers (recording angels) receive, one sitting on the right and one on the left (to note his or her actions) . Not a word does he (or she) utter, but there is a watcher by him ready (to record it).[Qaf 50:17-18]".
2. Islam doesn't tolerate propogation of lies even for a moment and takes strict notice of it. "Woe to every sinful liar, Who hears the Verses of Allah (being) recited to him, yet persists with pride as if he heard them not. So announce to him a painful torment![Al-Jathiyah 45:7-8]". "Shall I inform you (O people!) upon whom the Shayatin (devils) descend? They descend on every lying (one who tells lies), sinful person.[Ash-Shu'ara' 26:221-222]". "So shun the abomination (worshipping) of idol, and shun lying speech (false statements).[Al-Hajj 22:30]". ALLAAH says that His slaves(Ibadur Rahman) are : "those who do not witness falsehood, and if they pass by some evil play or evil talk, they pass by it with dignity.[Al-Furqan 25:72]". If today's journalists stop indulging in evil play or talk and do not try to make a fuss out of every small happening, the whole world will be at peace.
3. Islam shuns yellow journalism and avoids man from spying and from suspicions. "O you who believe! Avoid much suspicions, indeed some suspicions are sins. And spy not, neither backbite one another.[Al-Hujurat 49:12]".
4. Islam exhorts man to verify whatever he hears before propagating it - "O you who believe! If a rebellious evil person comes to you with a news, verify it, lest you harm people in ignorance, and afterwards you become regretful to what you have done.[Al-Hujuraat 49:6]". If journalists were to follow this Islamic code, they wouldn't have written false stories(without verifying) about innocent muslim youth who were arrested without proofs and are later released by courts, thus tarnishing their image and destroying their lives.
5. Islam commands man to stand firmly for justice and not to act according to his whims and fancies --"O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even though it be against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, be he rich or poor, Allah is a Better Protector to both (than you). So follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest you may avoid justice, and if you distort your witness or refuse to give it, verily, Allah is Ever Well-Acquainted with what you do.[An-Nisa' 4:135]". "O you who believe! Stand out firmly for Allah and be just witnesses and let not the enmity and hatred of others make you avoid justice. Be just: that is nearer to piety, and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is Well-Acquainted with what you do.[Al-Ma'idah 5:8]". If today's journalists follow this Islamic principle, they won't target a particular community and write against them, destroying the lives and careers of many innocent youngsters.
ALLAAH emphasizes the importance of Islamic government as : "Surely, We have sent down to you (O Muhammad SAW) the Book (this Qur'an) in truth that you might judge between men by that which Allah has shown you (i.e. has taught you through Divine Inspiration), so be not a pleader for the treacherous. And seek the Forgiveness of Allah, certainly, Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. And argue not on behalf of those who deceive themselves. Verily, Allah does not like anyone who is a betrayer of his trust, and indulges in crime.[An-Nisa' 4:105-107]". Judgements in any matter should be done only according to ALLAAH's commands. To establish this is our responsibility. In the later aayath ALLAAH asks : "Lo! You are those who have argued for them in the life of this world, but who will argue for them on the Day of Resurrection against Allah, or who will then be their defender?[An-Nisa' 4:109]". The people may be supporting them saying we should have free journalism, etc but ALLAAH asks them will they be able to support or defend them on the Day of resurrection?
Brothers! I request you all to study and understand Qur'an and work towards implementing it on this land so that all judgements are done according to ALLAAH's commands and thereby whatever crimes we see in this world will be wiped out and peace will prevail!

King Abdullah: Key events
Believed born in Riyadh in August 1924, although actual date is disputed
His mother, Fahda, was the eighth of King Abdulaziz al-Saud's 22 wives
Appointed commander of the Saudi National Guard in 1963
Became crown prince and first deputy prime minister in 1982 when King Fahd succeeded King Khalid
Succeeded to the throne in August 2005 following the death of King Fahd

Fall of the House of Saud: Robert Baer on the CIA & Security in the Middle East (2003)

The family has had conflicts with the Ottoman Empire, the Sharif of Mecca, the Al Rashid family of.. FIND MORE http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Saud

"Innalillahiwainnailaihirojiun" RAJA Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud Meninggal Akibat Sakit Kritis.

Media and Islam by Aijaz Mohiuddin Waseem
