Hey, I'm Student Dr. Thompson here with a review of my pediatrics rotation and resources to use to study for the pediatrics shelf exam. Below are the notes I jotted down to help make the video all in one take. Thanks for watching. Pediatrics Rotation Disclaimer: Everyones experience is going to be different, I encourage you guys to write about your experience in the comments to give younger viewers a broader perspective. Stay tuned, in the end I will tell you the best resources to use for the shelf exam. I will talk about my experience, which may have similarities to most. I only had 4 weeks, where others get 6 and even 8. All 4 were with the same physician, 95% clinic 5% hospital. Primary care physician for Birth to 18 Residency: 3 years Average Salary: $177k (that means 50% make less, vice versa) Clinical Setting: Varies GREATLY depending on the season. I was in summer right before school started. Lots of back to school check ups. Sports physicals. Lots of well child visits. Fall and Winter might be totally different with sick kids coming in all day, I missed out on all of that, maybe that is why I like this rotation so much, not sure. Lots of vaccinations. Depression screening. Sexual counseling. A few procedures - stitches, broken bones, circumcisions Hospital setting: Rounding on newborns in the hospital, circumcisions, congratulating the parents. Seeing the patient without the parents (one of the few times) MY PRECEPTOR: Dr. K, awesome guy, late 30’s, worked 3 days a week (So I studied a ton), wore skate shoes and a button up shirt. Everyone loved him. Sent me in to write a SOAP note on all new patients, and most existing patients depending on time. I would see them, do a FAST presentation and then we would go in together.
