Eastbourne
Eastbourne (
pronunciation ) is a large town, seaside resort, and borough in the non-metropolitan county of East Sussex on the south coast of England, 19 miles (31 km) east of Brighton. Eastbourne is immediately to the east of Beachy Head, the highest chalk sea cliff in Great Britain. With a seafront consisting largely of Victorian hotels, a pier, and a Napoleonic era fort and military museum, Eastbourne was developed by the Duke of Devonshire from 1859 from four separate hamlets. It has a growing population, a broad economic base, and is home to companies in a wide range of industries.
Though Eastbourne is a relatively new town, there is evidence of human occupation in the area from the Stone Age. The town grew as a fashionable tourist resort largely thanks to prominent landowner, William Cavendish, later to become the Duke of Devonshire. Cavendish appointed architect Henry Currey to design a street plan for the town, but not before sending him to Europe to draw inspiration. The resulting mix of architecture is typically Victorian and remains a key feature of Eastbourne.

East Sussex
East Sussex /ˈsʌsᵻks/ is a county in South East England. It is bordered by the counties of Kent to the north and east, Surrey to the north west and West Sussex to the west, and to the south by the English Channel.
History
East Sussex is part of the historic county of Sussex, which has its roots in the ancient kingdom of the South Saxons, who established themselves there in the 5th century AD, after the departure of the Romans. Archaeological remains are plentiful, especially in the upland areas. The area's position on the coast has also meant that there were many invaders, including the Romans and later the Normans. Earlier industries have included fishing, iron-making, and the wool trade, all of which have declined, or been lost completely.
Governance
Sussex is traditionally divided into six sub-divisions known as rapes. From the 12th century the three eastern rapes and the three western rapes each had separate quarter sessions, with the county town of the three eastern rapes being Lewes. This situation was formalised by Parliament in 1865, and the two parts were made into administrative counties, each with distinct elected county councils in 1889 under the Local Government Act 1888. In East Sussex there were also three self-administered county boroughs: Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings.

East Sussex (UK Parliament constituency)
East Sussex (formally the Eastern division of Sussex) was a parliamentary constituency in the county of Sussex, which returned two Members of Parliament to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, elected by the bloc vote system.
It was created under the Great Reform Act for the 1832 general election, when the existing Sussex constituency was divided into two. It consisted of the rapes of Lewes, Pevensey and Hastings, an area broadly similar to but not identical with the modern county of East Sussex. The "place of election", where nominations were taken and the result declared, was Lewes.
East Sussex was abolished for the 1885 general election, being divided between four new single-member county constituencies, Rye, Eastbourne, East Grinstead and Lewes. (Lewes and Rye also absorbed the voters from the abolished boroughs of the same names.)

Eastbourne is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since May 2015 by Caroline Ansell (Conservative).
Constituency profile
Before 1990 almost always a safe Conservative seat, and with larger borders, Eastbourne since 1983 has been narrowed to the town and its immediate outskirts, primarily in the South Downs National Park. The town is towards the edge of the reasonable London Commuter Belt and is a coastal resort town that has had only marginal majorities following the 1990 by-election between the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats for many years. A Liberal Democrat gained the seat at the 2010 general election, in an election which saw the 6th lowest Labour share of the vote of the 631 candidates who stood at the election, on 4.8%.
Boundaries
The constituency comprises all nine electoral wards of Eastbourne Borough, as well as the wards of Willingdon and Wannock in the Wealden district.

We went to Eastbourne for a weekend getaway. From Sunday, August 11 to August 12, 2024. Eastbourne is a very nice seaside resort town in east Sussex, England. Stayed there for a night at a hotel. Eastbourne is our sort of a default destination whenever we want a quick and easy seaside getaway for a weekend. It is accessible as it is near London plus it doesn't get crowded as other seaside destinations in UK. It was a lovely weekend getaway as it happened to be the hottest weather in UK so far this year. It was a lovely weekend getaway as it happened to be the hottest weather in UK so far this year. A well worth short break for us.

From sunrise to sunset, whatever the weather The Seven Sisters are stunning to look at. Those white chalk cliffs are iconic. This walk is the must-do for anyone visiting East Sussex.

We went to Eastbourne for a weekend getaway. From Sunday, August 11 to August 12, 2024.
Eastbourne is a very nice seaside resort town in east Sussex, England.
Stayed there for a night at a hotel. Eastbourne is our sort of a default destination whenever we want a quick and easy seaside getaway for a weekend. It is accessible as it is near London plus it doesn't get crowded as other seaside destinations in UK.
It was a lovely weekend getaway as it happened to be the hottest weather in UK so far this year. A well worth short break for us.

Eastbourne
Eastbourne ( pronunciation ) is a large town, seaside resort, and borough in the non-metropolitan county of East Sussex on the south coast of England, 19 miles (31 km) east of Brighton. Eastbourne is immediately to the east of Beachy Head, the highest chalk sea cliff in Great Britain. With a seafront consisting largely of Victorian hotels, a pier, and a Napoleonic era fort and military museum, Eastbourne was developed by the Duke of Devonshire from 1859 from four separate hamlets. It has a growing population, a broad economic base, and is home to companies in a wide range of industries.
Though Eastbourne is a relatively new town, there is evidence of human occupation in the area from the Stone Age. The town grew as a fashionable tourist resort largely thanks to prominent landowner, William Cavendish, later to become the Duke of Devonshire. Cavendish appointed architect Henry Currey to design a street plan for the town, but not before sending him to Europe to draw inspiration. The resulting mix of architecture is typically Victorian and remains a key feature of Eastbourne.
