This great song by "Chris Rea" was first released in 1986 as a non album single, but it was not until 1988 that it got to number 53 in the UK singles chart, and it re entered the UK charts in 2007 where this time it made it to number 33. i think this is a great song and should have been a number 1 hit..While i am here i would like to take this Opportunity in wishing all my friends and subscribers a Happy Christmas and the best of luck and good health for the coming new year... Chris Rea (
/ˈriːə/ REE-ə; born Christopher Anton Rea, 4 March 1951) is an English singer-songwriter, recognisable for his distinctive, husky voice and slide guitar playing. The British Hit Singles & Albums stated that Rea was "one of the most popular UK singer-songwriters of the late 1980s. He was already a major European star by the time he finally cracked the UK Top 10 with his 18th chart entry; "The Road to Hell (Part 2)". By 2009, Rea had sold more than 30 million albums worldwide.
He is well known for his 1978 hit song "Fool (If You Think It's Over)" that charted #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent three weeks at #1 on the U.S. Billboard adult contemporary chart. The song was later covered by Elkie Brooks and was a top 20 hit in the UK.
Although Rea had limited success in the United States, two of his albums, The Road to Hell and Auberge, topped the UK Albums Chart. The book Guinness Rockopedia described him as a "gravel-voiced guitar stalwart".
Rea was born in Middlesbrough, England, the son of ice cream producer Camillo Rea who together with his brother Gaetano owned an ice cream factory and ran twenty-one cafés.

The new La Passione comprised of 2 DVDs and 2 CDs - the box set will be CD1 & CD2 - Original Music from the 1996 soundtrack album 'La Passione', re-mastered & some remixed, including 'Girl In A Sports Car', along with new tracks. DVD 1 is: Re-edited original & new short films to complement the music along with an interview with Chris between each piece. Chris refers to these video pieces as "little boys dreams" in reference to them being about what he, as a 10/11 year old, saw motor racing & in particular Ferrari and it's German driver, Wolfgang Von Trips to epitomise. Also included on DVD 1 are new pieces on the Dino and GTO Ferrari's with new soundtracks to each. DVD 2 - Documentary on Wolfgang Von Trips - the Ferrari racing driver who Chris followed as a youngster and who subsequently died racing at the Italian Grand Prix in 1961 - made up entirely of Von Trips personal cine films, never seen before in this way. There will be new Music by Chris for the documentary. All 4 discs are housed within a 70 page coffee-table book, which includes photographs and paintings from Chris Rea.

This DVD includes a superb 75-minutes documentary about recording "Stony Road" album, one short 23 min live/interview featurette from Cologne and a collection of Chris Rea paintings.
Rea's understanding of how the blues evolved from the Delta up to Chicago is a revelation.

Chris Rea: "I've loved Studio MIRAVAL for quite a while because it has a completely different atmosphere from all those high-tech studios. For example, for years they've been collecting fantastic microphones that you can't buy anywhere else any more. As a consequence, they're hardly available in other studios. And then, the heat and the landscape there, well, you know - it's almost like being way down South...
In April 1978 he released his single "Fool (If You Think It's Over)" which charted both in the UK and the USA.
The original version of his first global success "Fool (If You Think It's Over)" was conceived as a blues track....
Whatever Happened to Benny Santini? was Rea's debut album.
It was released in June 1978 and produced by Elton John's music producer Gus Dudgeon.
Rea was reportedly dissatisfied with the final mix of the album; he later went some way to supposedly rectify this to his satisfaction, starting with 1988's greatest hits compilation New Light Through Old Windows, which featured a re-recorded version of "Fool..." and several other of his back-catalogue tracks.
The title of the album was a reference to "Benjamin Santini", the stage name that Rea's record label suggested he should adopt.
The first single taken from the album, "Fool (If You Think It's Over)", was Rea's biggest hit in the US, peaking at 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reaching 1 on the Adult Contemporary Singles chart.
Chris wrote "Fool (If You Think It's Over)" about his little sister who just had her first big blowout.
"Fool (If You Think It's Over)" was nominated for a Song of the Year Grammy, losing out to Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are".
Like most of Rea's early singles, "Fool (If You Think It's Over)" failed to appear on the UK Singles Chart on its first release and only reached 30 when re-released in late 1978 to capitalise on its US achievement.
The singer Elkie Brooks enjoyed greater success with the song in 1982 when she charted her cover version at 17.
It was also the first record played by Radio Caroline after a long period off the air. Another cover of "Fool (If You Think It's Over)" by Kenny Craddock was used as the theme tune for BBC sitcom Joking Apart.

In 2001 Rea was struck down with a severe case of Pancreatitis, later revealed to have been cancerous. The operation that he went in for only assured him a 50% chance of survival.
He has stated in interviews since that he swore to himself before the operation that if he survived he would return to his blues roots and pack in the commercial rock business. Needless to say the man survived, and Dancing Down The Stony Road was the resulting masterpiece.
Chris Rea's obsession with the Delta blues is heavily prevalent in this album. He uses his exceptional slide guitar playing to great effect, his vocals are deep and charred (emphasizing the blues themes in his writing), and the production raw and sparse.
