LINK TO HOW TO TRIM YOUR CRAYFISHES CLAWS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tT3HQQ1olJ4&list;=UUIUalZV1mESwKG0m-WWRQZg This is just a general guide in the care of crayfish I'm available 24/7 to clarify or answer any questions whatsoever! message, tweet, email me for a quick response! (= Happy Keeping! "What you need to know before buying a crayfish"or advise on caring for your crayfish." YOU DON'T NECESSARILY HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT YOUR WATER CONDITIONS AS THE CRAYFISH ARE VERY HARDY FISH, ~~~WHAT IS IMPORTANT IS THE SPACE THAT THE TANK IS GONNA PROVIDE. NOW THERES DIFFERENT OPINIONS BUT NO "SET IN STONE" AMOUNT OF SPACE A CRAYFISH NEEDS. ~~~HOWEVER, IN MY RESEARCH AND PERSONAL EXPERIENCE I HAVE FOUND THAT A MINIMUM OF 10 GALLONS WILL SUFFICE. IM NOT SAYING ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP CRAYFISH IN ANYTHING LESS OR THAT MORE SPACE ISNT APPRECIATED HOWEVER A SIMPLE" RULE OF THUMB MEASRUEMENT " FOR THE BASIC AMOUNT OF SPACE A CRAYFISH WILL NEED TO BE HEALTHY WILL BE THE EQUIVALENT TO 10 GALLONS PER 1 CRAYFISH. BECAUSE THIS CREATURE GETS TO BE AROUND 5 INCHES THE MORE SPACE , THE MARRIER .WHATS MORE IMPORTANT TO THE CRAYFISH'S HEALTH AND WELL BEING IS THAT THERE ARE HIDING SPACES. HIDING SPACES ARE A MUST HAVE IN A CRAYFISH AQUARIUM. HAVING A MOVEABLE SUBSTRATE SUCH AS SAND AND GRAVEL THAT THE CRAYFISH CAN DIG INTO WILL DEFINITELY MAKE YOUR CRAYFISH FEEL RIGHT AT HOME. A ROCK, PIECE OF DRIFT WOOD, OR DÉCOR ARE PERFECT FOR CRAYFISH TO DIG UNDER AND CREATE BURROWS. ITS REALLY IMPORTANT THAT YOU PROVIDE PLENTY OF PLACES TO HIDE AND EVEN MORE SO IF YOU PLAN ON INTRODUCING MULTIPLE CRAYFISH IN YOUR TANK. DESPITE THE FACT THAT CRAYFISH ARE AGRRESSIVELY TERRITORIAL IT IS POSSIBLE TO KEEP MULTIPLE CRAYFISH IN AN AQUARIUM IF YOU FOLLOW THE 10 GALLON PER 1 CRAYFISH RULE. KEEP IN MIND THAT PROVIDING PLACES FOR THE CRAYFISH TO BURROW AND HIDE WILL MAKE THEM LESS AGGRESSIVE. THERE IS NO GURANTEE THEY WONT EVER FIGHT BUT THESE ARE A COUPLE OF THINGS YOU CAN DO TO AID IN THE PEACEFUL KEEPING OF MULTIPLE CRAYFISH. NOW THE THING ABOUT CRAYFISH IS THAT ITS COMMON TO FEED CRAYFISH FISH PELLETS BUT THEY ARE OMNIVORES, THIS MEANS THAT THEY EAT OTHER ANIMALS AND VEGETATION. YOUR GOING TO LOOK AT MANY ARTICLES ONLINE AND WATCH MANY VIDEOS BUT THE TRUTH IS THAT NO ANIMAL OR PLANT IS COMPLETELY SAFE FROM THE CRAYFISH, THEY HAVE EXTREMELY POWERFUL CLAWS THAT CAN CAUSE PERNICIOUS DAMAGE TO YOUR AQUATIC FRIENDS. THEY DON'TNECESSARILY NEED TO CATCH THE FISH AND EAT IT TO KILL YOUR FISH ALL IT WOULD TAKE IS THE CRAYFISH TO LUNGE OUT AT A FISH AND GRAB A HOLD OF IT IN A DELICATE SPOT CAUSING THE FISH TO JOLT AWAY HOWEVER THOSE CLAWS HAVE ADEATH GRIP AND WONT EASILY LET GO WHATLL END UP HAPPENING IS THAT THE CRAYFISH WILL RIP OUT A CHUNK FROM YOUR FISH AGAIN PRESENTING A PERNICIOUS PROBLEM. AND THAT'S WITH A LIVE ANIMAL THAT CAN POSSIBLY DEFEND ITSLEF AS FAR AS VEGETATION GOES...CONSIDER IT GONE. CRAYFISH ARE NOCTURNAL SO YOU MIGHT THINK EVERYTHING IS FINE AND DANDY BUT WAKE UP THE NEXT DAY TO FIND YOUR AQUATIC CROPS HAVE SUCCUMB TO THE CRAYFISHES OMNIVOROUS WAYS.

The Guardian 2015-03-20Crayfish, crawfish, or crawdads – members of the superfamilies Astacoidea and Parastacoidea – are freshwater crustaceans resembling small lobsters, to which they are related. They breathe through feather-like gills and are found in bodies of water that do not freeze to the bottom; they are also mostly found in brooks and streams where there is fresh water running, and which have shelter against predators. Most crayfish cannot tolerate polluted water, although some species such as the invasive Procambarus clarkii are more hardy. Crayfish feed on living and dead animals and plants.
In Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, the term crayfish or cray generally refers to a saltwater spiny lobster, of the genus Jasus that is indigenous to much of southern Oceania, while the freshwater species are usually called yabby or koura, from the indigenous Australian and Māori names for the animal respectively, or by other names specific to each species. An exception is the freshwater Murray crayfish, which belongs to the family Parastacidae and is found on Australia's Murray River.
Raymond Paul "Ray" Mears (born 7 February 1964) is an English woodsman, instructor, author and TV presenter. His TV appearances cover bushcraft and survival techniques, and he is best known for the TV series Ray Mears' Bushcraft, Ray Mears' World of Survival, Extreme Survival, Survival with Ray Mears, Wild Britain with Ray Mears and Ray Mears Goes Walkabout.
Mears grew up in Kenley, Greater London, and the North Downs, where he discovered a countryside abundant with wildlife. Educated at Reigate Grammar School, a co-educational independent school in Reigate, Surrey, he learned to track foxes in the forest at a young age. As a boy, he desired to sleep out on the trail, but unable to afford camping equipment, he resorted to setting up camp using what he could find in his surroundings.
Mears's enthusiasm for his subject, combined with his broad knowledge of survival and the uses which may be made of plants, trees and other natural materials found in woodland, forest or desert, have made him a popular figure in TV broadcasting in the UK.[citation needed] He has travelled extensively across the world for his TV series and has learned survival techniques from the indigenous peoples he has met. In his programmes he demonstrates his knowledge of the wild, how to find food from seeds, berries, roots and other growing things, and how to survive by constructing temporary shelters, fires and canoes from natural materials.
