Most see the European Union of today as an inefficient conglomeration of states run by self-serving career politicians anxious to guarantee their survival by safely nesting in the EU's cocoon of endless bureaucracies. Many don't really see a threat at the moment. They believe that an integrated Europe makes sense; that it would prevent any chance of a third European war; that it is the modern, forward-thinking way to go. NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH The European Economic Community (EEC) began as a free-trade agreement in 1972. Today's European Union is well on its way to becoming a federal superstate, complete with one currency, one legal system, one military, one police force - even its own national anthem. The EU is to increase financial aid to the Central African Republic, officials said on Tuesday. The European Commission announced an extra 72 million euros in fresh funding during a donor conference in the Belgian capital of Brussels. “This additional support includes humatarian aid of 10 million euros fresh funding for humanitarian aid. so, the European Union stands by the Central African Republic and we are fully engaged in supporting it to address the major challenges ahead,” said Neven Mimica European Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development. The country has been wracked by sectarian violence since a coup more than two years ago that saw mainly Muslim rebels fight against Christian vigilantes. CAR’s interim president, Catherine Samba-Panza, said organising fresh elections are a “priority.” “We, with the European Union, have faced humanitarian emergencies. but now it’s time to go beyond the humanitarian emergency and to really lift up the the population. we have a many refugees inside the Central African republic, many displaced people in neighboring countries,” she told reporters. Nearly one million people had to leave their homes during the fighting. More than half of the country’s four million people require humanitarian assistance, according to the Norwegian Refugee Council.

Russia fully backs the Minsk peace agreements in Ukraine, but progress is being stalled by Kiev, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview in Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera on Saturday."Russia is interested in and will strive to ensure the full and unconditional implementation of the Minsk Agreements," he said, according to a transcript released by the Kremlin, calling the February deal "right, just and feasible".His comments came a few days after the most serious outbreak of fighting in eastern Ukraine since February's ceasefire, which has cast doubt on the durability of the peace deal.Putin said that large-scale hostilities in eastern Ukraine had on the whole ceased and a pull-back of heavy weapons implemented, despite occasional shooting and casualties."It is time to begin implementing the Minsk Agreements," he said, referring to clauses requiring constitutional reform to ensure autonomy for the rebel regions in eastern Ukraine, a law on municipal elections there and a law on amnesty in co-ordination with the regions' authorities."The problem is that the current Kiev authorities don't even want to sit down to talks with them. And there is nothing we can do about it," he said. "Only our European and American partners can influence this situation."Putin also said that Kiev's cutting off of economic ties with the rebel territories was causing a humanitarian disaster, and said the European Union should fulfill its obligations to restore the banking system in the region.He added: "Since we are talking about what can or must be done, and by whom, I believe that the European Union could surely provide greater financial assistance to Ukraine."

Stephen Cohen interview, on the economic meltdown of Ukraine The Nation: Stephen Cohen, contributing editor at The Nation, joined The John Batchelor Show (radio) on May 26 to discuss the series of setbacks facing those looking for a peaceful end to the Ukraine crisis—especially the problems facing the Ukrainian economy. Cohen explained that Ukraine’s economy had been in a “complete meltdown”—unable to balance its budget or to pay its bills or sovereign debt—long before the crisis started. At the recent summit meeting of the European Union in Riga, Latvia, Ukraine was unable to obtain the money it needed. Further, it was was told, “No, you’re not going to be a member of the European Union and you won’t get visa-free travel to Europe”, Cohen said. He believes that it appears the EU will not bail out Ukraine’s government debt because it is directing this money to Greece. On top of this economic instability, Cohen said, is an increasing crisis of political faith. According to a recent poll, only 17 percent of Ukrainians approve of the president’s performance. The same poll also showed that only 1 percent of Ukrainians “see the government as fulfilling its obligations.” “Unfolding before our eyes is a deepening economic, financial, political and military crisis in Kiev,” Cohen said. “The regime is becoming wobbly. It can’t do anything except call for war.”

The European Union has denounced “most serious violation of the ceasefire” in eastern Ukraine since February. At least 24 people died in violence near to Donetsk over 24 hours between June 3 and 4, 2015, officials report. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has warned the threat of pro-Russian rebels resuming large scale attacks remains “huge.” He said. “At this moment, there are fourteen Russian tactical battalions, with nine thousand troops on Ukrainian territory. The concentration of Russian troops on the Ukrainian border is one point five times bigger than one year ago.” The EU’s executive Commission has called on all sides involved to respect the Minsk peace accord, recalling that the easing or tightening of sanctions against Russia depends on the deal being respected. But Moscow claims Kyiv is at fault. Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov said. “The Minsk agreements from February 12 are under constant threat of being violated because of the Kyiv authorities, which are trying to avoid fulfilling their obligations to establish a direct dialogue with Donbass.” Ukraine, however, claims an attack on the eastern town of Maryinka was carried out by pro-Russian separatists, leaving the Minsk deal at the point of collapse.... European Union ambassadors criticized on Friday the suspension of the local BBC radio service in Rwanda over a row related to a BBC program on the 1994 genocide, saying the suspension undermined free speech. The service was suspended in October after a documentary by the broadcaster questioned official accounts of the genocide, in which 800,000 mostly Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed. The state-run Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority said last Friday that the BBC broadcasts were indefinitely suspended. The case has been referred to the prosecutor general. European Union Economic Crisis Two days ago, the Euro declined 1.3% in one day versus the dollar, leaving many European banks fearing that the bottom is falling out of the European Union’s economy. Business Insider’s Sam Ro stated that Greek banks can no longer exchange Greece’s lowly-rated government bonds for money in the European Union. In other words, the European Union just announced the Greece’s money is worthless. What keeps an economy, in distress, rolling on day after day? The reasons are purely psychological. One Greek accepts Greek bank notes from another Greek because they have confidence that the paper currency can be exchanged for goods and services. When Greek citizens loses confidence in their ability to flip the paper money in exchange for goods and service, the Greek economy will totally collapse. The European Union’s recent decision to not honor Greek paper currency has set into effect a series of dominoes which will culminate in the Greeks not having a paper currency for daily use. Unless the European Union reverses their position, the Greek economy could be days away from total collapse. And under these highly volatile circumstances, anarchy would ensue. The situation in Greece is so dire that Paul Craig Roberts is openly talking about the real possibility that the Greek government will be assassinated. Roberts believes that it is very possible that the Greek people will turn their back on the West and will accept Russia’s offer to become a member of the BRICS, under the Russian sphere of influence as Roberts indicated. “That makes it difficult to make an agreement with the new Greek government to ameliorate the conditions imposed on Greece. So it makes the EU inflexible. That inflexibility gives Greece the cards to say, ‘We’re not playing your game — we’re going to play a different game and accept Russia’s offer.” To make matters worse in Greece, on Wednesday, February 4, 2015, the price of oil plunged by more than 8% in what could easily prove to be the straw that broke the camel’s back. Greece at the edge of a complete and total financial breakdown.
