Brittney Yevette Griner (born October 18, 1990) is an American professional basketball player currently playing as a women's basketball center with the Phoenix Mercury of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). She played college basketball at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. She was the first NCAA basketball player ever to score 2,000 points and block 500 shots. In 2012, the three-time All-American was named the AP Player of the Year and the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four.
Standing 6 ft 8 in (2.03 m) tall, Griner wears a men's US size 17 shoe and has an arm span of 86 in (2.2 m).
In 2009, Griner was named the nation's #1 high school women's basketball player by Rivals.com. Griner was selected to the 2009 McDonald's All-American basketball team. In 2012 she received the Best Female Athlete ESPY Award.
Griner is the daughter of Raymond and Sandra Griner. She has three older siblings.
Griner attended Nimitz High School in Houston. In addition to lettering in basketball throughout high school, she played varsity volleyball as a freshman.

Brittney Griner is opening up about her failed marriage to Glory Johnson. Just days after the 24-year-old WNBA star filed for an annulment to end her short-lived union to the Colorado Springs native, Griner sat down for a candid interview with ESPN in which she opens up about her wife's unexpected pregnancy announcement, her domestic violence arrest and emotionally admits that tying the knot may not have been the best decision. Griner and Johnson tied the knot last month, two weeks after the basketball stars were arrested on suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct after police responded to a domestic dispute at their new home outside of Phoenix. Louisville upset Baylor in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen game in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Louisville came in as a major underdog, but managed to walk away with the win in a very close game. It has been labeled as one of the biggest upsets in women's basketball history. Louisville went on to defeat Tennessee in the Elite Eight and Cal in the Final Four.
