Alexandra Marguerite Clémentine Cousteau (born March 21, 1976) is the daughter of Philippe Cousteau and the granddaughter of world famous French explorer and filmmaker Jacques-Yves Cousteau. A dedicated environmentalist, Cousteau advocates the importance of conservation, restoration and sustainable management of water resources for a healthy planet and productive societies.
A member of the third generation of the Cousteau family to devote their lives to exploring and explaining the natural world, Cousteau first went on expedition with her father, Philippe Cousteau, when she was four months old, and learned to scuba dive with her grandfather, Jacques-Yves Cousteau, when she was seven. She grew up traveling the globe, developed a passion for adventure and learned firsthand the value of conserving the natural world. Of her father and grandfather, Cousteau says, "The best example they gave me was the importance of living a life of consequence, value, and meaning. I honor their memories by creating a legacy of my own in speaking out for the preservation of our blue planet and all its waters."

The Colorado River: Reviving the Delta
Near the U.S.-Mexico border, vital signs are improving for a river that has been on life support for decades. The Colorado River is over-taxed by farms and cities in seven U.S. states and Mexico. But a historic agreement between the two countries is giving a boost to the delta ecosystem. It’s the first time water has crossed the border for a strictly environmental purpose. And it gives an element of hope to a troubled river. VOA’s Steve Baragona has the final installment of our series.

About thirty of us, mainly from from Texas, Maryland, Utah, and California, came together for this unforgettable, lifetime, 5 day trip down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon with Wilderness River Adventures. 100 degree days cooled by the 50 degree water dunks. This is a day by day account of some of the activities and rapids.

The area from the Hulapai Hilltop to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, Supai, is one of the coolest places you will ever see. We wanted to do a fast trip down to the bottom of the canyon - and still enjoy the area including the magnificent waterfalls. Starting from the Hulapai Hilltop we ran down to the Supai village and then to the campground and back up to the village on the afternoon of our first day. The next we explored the canyons to the bottom at the terminus at the Colorado River. We then ran back up and out of the canyon to the Hulapai Hilltop so we could run the Grand Canyon's Rim to Rim to Rim the next day.

NOTE** YouTube stabilization was employed. Original version does not have it. Pluses seem to outweigh minuses, it's subjective. It's seen as a slight wavy effect and the titles move.

California's largest lake threatened by urban water transfer
In this April 29, 2015 picture, oxygen-starved tilapia float in a shallow Salton Sea bay near Niland, Calif. Often called the "The Accidental Sea," because it was created when the Colorado River breached a dike in 1905, Salton Sea now faces a looming calamity as coastal Southern California clamors for more water.
SALTON CITY, Calif. — Once-bustling marinas on shallow water in California's largest lake a few years ago are bone-dry. Carcasses of oxygen-starved tilapia lie on desolate shores. Flocks of eared grebes and shoreline birds bob up and down to feast on marine life.

Grant Stevens, a mid-level manager for the Bureau of Reclamation, only wanted to build dams. He never imagined he would be swept into a desperate race against an environmental terrorist bent on restoring the Colorado River by blowing up the dams. Left temporarily in charge of the Bureau, Grant must react when the first dam is attacked. He faces the unthinkable task of mitigating the massive flood roaring down the Colorado. The flood will eventually threaten the mighty Hoover Dam, and if Hoover fails, the other dams downstream will fall like dominos. Working with the FBI, Grant u

An air of decline and strange beauty permeates the Salton Sea: The lake is shrinking — and on the verge of getting much smaller as more water goes to coastal cities.
San Diego and other Southern California water agencies will stop replenishing the lake after 2017, raising concerns that dust from exposed lakebed will exacerbate asthma and other respiratory illness in a region whose air quality already fails federal standards. A smaller lake also threatens fish and habitat for more than 400 bird species on the Pacific flyway.
Many of the more than 10,000 people who live in shoreline communities cherish the solitude but now feel forgotten. The dying lake must compete for water as California reels from a four-year drought that has brought sweeping, state-ordered consumption cuts.
Julie London, who moved to Salton City after visiting in 1986 from Washington state, hopes for help for the periodic, rotten odor from the lake that keep residents inside on hot, fly-filled summer nights. The stench in 2012 carried more than 150 miles to Los Angeles.
"Unfortunately, that's the only time anyone will listen because we don't have a voice," London, 60, said on her porch, one of the few that still lies a stone's throw from water. "You can scream all you want. Nobody cares."
San Diego now purchases more than one-quarter of its water from California's Imperial Valley, where fields produce runoff that delivers 70 percent of the lake's inflows. More water for San Diego means less for the Salton Sea.
In 2003, the state Legislature agreed to spearhead efforts to restore the lake to help seal the San Diego sale. California, which used more Colorado River water than it was entitled to, was under enormous pressure t

Working with the FBI, Grant uses his engineering skills, river knowledge, and plenty of gut instinct in an attempt to outmaneuver the terrorist. The chase will lead all the way downstream to the Gulf of California in a cat and mouse game where the stakes are high and the potential for destruction is enormous.

My wife and I saw this beautiful river while at an Oil Painters of America art show in Estes Park, Colorado.
We lived at the base of the Greenhorn Mountains for 12 years in Rye, Colorado and Colorado scenery remains one of my favorite subjects.
Learn from impressionist Bill Inman as he shares a fast motion version of his 4 hour video that shows every brushstroke of his painting.
Bill has been a full time artist for more than 20 years and sold his first painting in a professional gallery at the age of 17 while still in high school.

Grand Canyon River Rafting, 2014
About thirty of us, mainly from from Texas, Maryland, Utah, and California, came together for this unforgettable, lifetime, 5 day trip down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon with Wilderness River Adventures. 100 degree days cooled by the 50 degree water dunks. This is a day by day account of some of the activities and rapids.
NOTE** YouTube stabilization was employed. Original version does not have it. Pluses seem to outweigh minuses, it's subjective. It's seen as a slight wavy effect and the titles move.

Colorado River Boat Ride
Take a boat ride with us up the Colorado River from Willow Beach in Arizona up to the Hoover Dam bypass bridge. We even stop along the way to see some bighorn sheep.
We pulled into the "bat cave" thank goodness there were no bats!
The river was pretty calm that day, so the cam stabilizer worked pretty good.
We also included some of our still pictures between clips.
Thanks for taking a ride with us!
