Entertainment reporter Tim Estiloz profiles the classic spy TV show, "The Man From UNCLE". This phenomenally popular 1960's TV show starring Robert Vaughn and David McCallum was a clever mix of high adventure spy intrigue - mixed with clever tongue-in-cheek humor. The show became a world-wide TV hit... spawning huge ratings, fan clubs, and a merchandising gold mine in UNCLE related collectibles and toys. The spy series was so incredibly popular in it's scope - even the Beatles asked to meet with one of the two stars, Robert Vaughn on their first tour of the USA. This feature profiles the show "behind the scenes", the fan frenzy and the program's profound impact then... and now. This story was written and produced by Tim Estiloz. It originally aired on the entertainment news TV program, "Backstage" - seen on CN8 The Comcast Network. Famed Man from U.N.C.L.E. star Robert Vaughn dramatically reads a transcript from an earlier show’s interview between Fabio and Conan. Fabio, whose actual name is Fabio Lanzoni, was an Italian fashion model, who during the 1980s and early 1990s, became a highly coveted subject for romance novel cover art. Interesting Fact: a strange incident occurred in 1999 involving Fabio. While visiting Busch Gardens Williamsburg in Virginia, Fabio took a ride in the front seat of a high-speed rollercoaster. As he descended down a particularly steep grade of track he was struck in the face with a goose that happened to fly across his path. The goose was unfortunately instantly killed, but luckily no one other than Fabio was injured. The impact of the goose did, however, leave Fabio’s face rather bloodied but apparently he has suffered no apparent long term mental effects (on the other hand, he did launch a fashion line at Sam's Club).

A shocking story of government cover-up in space! What would happen is a UFO was to crash-land on Earth? What the government let us know? Or would they fear nationwide panic and keep it under cover? This intense thriller opens as two astronauts (Gary Collins and James Hampton) are deploying a satellite from a space shuttle when it collides with an unidentified object. The object makes a crippled but safe landing in the remote southwestern desert where it is quickly carted off by government agencies to a secret Air Force base. Meanwhile, the two astronauts are back on earth and are anxious to know what happened, but no one is talking. When they begin to investigate they learn that the government will stop at nothing to keep them from discovering the truth! The stellar cast includes Darren McGavin (A Christmas Story), Robert Vaughn (The Man From U.N.C.L.E.) and Pamela Bellwood (Dynasty). Stylishly directed by James L. Conway (The Boogens) who also co-wrote the story.

Vaughn was born in New York City to performer parents: Marcella Frances (née Gaudel), a stage actress, and Gerald Walter Vaughn, a radio actor. His ancestry includes Irish, French, and German. After his parents divorced, Vaughn lived in Minneapolis with his grandparents while his mother traveled. He attended North High School and later enrolled in the University of Minnesota as a journalism major. He quit after a year and moved to Los Angeles with his mother. He enrolled in Los Angeles City College, then transferred to Los Angeles State College of Applied Arts and Sciences, where he earned a Master's degree in theater. Continuing his higher education even through his successful acting career, Vaughn earned a Ph.D. in communications from the University of Southern California, in 1970. In 1972, he published his dissertation as the book Only Victims: A Study of Show Business Blacklisting.
"The Man" is a slang phrase that may refer to the government or to some other authority in a position of power. In addition to this derogatory connotation, it may also serve as a term of respect and praise.
The phrase "the Man is keeping me down" is commonly used to describe oppression. The phrase "stick it to the Man" encourages resistance to authority, and essentially means "fight back" or "resist", either openly or via sabotage.
The earliest recorded use[citation needed] of the term "the Man" in the American sense dates back to a letter written by a young Alexander Hamilton in September 1772, when he was 15. In a letter to his father James Hamilton, published in the Royal Dutch-American Gazette, he described the response of the Dutch governor of St. Croix to a hurricane that raked that island on August 31, 1772. "Our General has issued several very salutary and humane regulations and both in his publick and private measures, has shewn himself the Man." [dubious – discuss] In the Southern U.S. states, the phrase came to be applied to any man or any group in a position of authority, or to authority in the abstract. From about the 1950s the phrase was also an underworld code word for police, the warden of a prison or other law enforcement or penal authorities.
