Oito anos depois do seu último trabalho em disco, lançado em 1994 e denominado "Love Is Always Seventeen ", David Gates reapareceria em 2002 com o CD compilação "THE DAVID GATES SONGBOOK - A LIFETIME OF MUSIC". Este álbum contém 20 músicas selecionadas exclusivamente por ele, sendo 10 delas versões originais de grandes sucessos da época do Bread, outras 5 provenientes de seus discos solo e mais 5 inéditas, embora haja entre essas últimas 5, uma faixa anteriormente já lançada. Trata-se de "Love Is Always Seventeen", apresentada aqui como inédita por causa de um novo arranjo de cordas, mantendo-a bastante bonita e comovente. O álbum traz um encarte detalhado sobre as canções e a carreira de Gates. Por incrível que possa parecer, a carreira solo deste extraordinário compositor foi subestimada. Não há como explicar que dezenas de suas composições pós-Bread não tenham ficado conhecidas, como ficaram "Goodbye Girl" e "Take Me Now", por exemplo. Baladas e soft-rocks suaves e extremamente harmonizados com sua voz pungente, isso sempre foi sua marca registrada. Este CD, em grande parte, é como um veículo para suas novas canções. Se acontecer de você estar se tornando um novo fã para os trabalhos de David Gates, este disco é uma sólida introdução à música do grande artista (e você é uma pessoa de muito bom gosto e sorte!). Pelo fato deste álbum estar composto, em sua maioria de faixas, por baladas, você não perceberá outras vertentes estilísticas indiscutíveis do talento de Gates. Tudo indica que esta seleção foi criada, para atrair a atenção sobre as novas músicas, juntando-as num álbum com os antigos sucessos. O que vai se descobrir em seguida, é que ele não perdeu e nem abandonou o seu grande talento musical.
Das músicas novas, destaco "Find Me", de temática voltada para a vida após a morte. Impressionante como esta música faz fundo para centenas (talvez milhares) de vídeos postados no YouTube. Muitos são, também, os vídeos com interpretações cover desta comovente balada, bem ao estilo do mestre. Outra inédita, "I Can´t Play the Songs", traz logo de início o piano fantástico de Larry Knechtel, ex-integrante do Bread já falecido, talentosíssimo e premiado músico, sempre presente nos discos de David Gates. Uma curiosidade para novos fãs: Larry Knechtel ganhou um Grammy em 1969/70, pelo seu arranjo de piano para a música "Bridge Over Troubled Water", mega sucesso de Simon & Garfunkel. Multi-instrumentista, Knechtel era um requisitadíssimo músico de estúdio antes de se juntar ao Bread e contribuir muito para o seu absoluto sucesso.
Assim, voltando a comentar sobre "The David Gates Songbook -- A Lifetime of Music", acho que este disco tem muita coisa para os novos e antigos admiradores de Gates. Mais de 40 anos depois de ter ouvido Bread pela primeira vez, sou a prova viva de que não dá para viver sem as músicas deste monstro sagrado que é David Gates, ao qual agradeço por tanta inspiração e sensibilidade, desejando-o longa e feliz vida, de todo o coração!

David is very important to Jewish, Christian and Islamic doctrine and culture. In Judaism, David, or David HaMelekh, is the King of Israel, and the Jewish people. Jewish tradition maintains that a direct descendant of David will be the Messiah. In Islam, he is known as Dawud, considered to be a prophet and the king of a nation. He is depicted as a righteous king, though not without faults, as well as an acclaimed warrior, musician, and poet, traditionally credited for composing many of the psalms contained in the Book of Psalms.

David Gates (born December 11, 1940) is an American singer-songwriter, best known as the lead singer of the group Bread, which reached the tops of the musical charts in Europe and North America on several occasions in the 1970s. The band was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame.
Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Gates was surrounded by music from infancy, as the son of a band director and a piano teacher. He became proficient in piano, bass and guitar by the time he enrolled in Tulsa's Will Rogers High School. Gates joined local bands around Tulsa. During a concert in 1957, his high school band backed Chuck Berry. Later, Gates released his first local hit single, "Jo-Baby," a song he had written for his sweetheart, Jo Rita, whom he married in 1958 while enrolled at the University of Oklahoma. At Oklahoma he became a member of Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity.
In 1961, he and his family moved to Los Angeles, where Gates continued writing songs, and he worked as a music copyist, as a studio musician, and as a producer for many artists — including Pat Boone. Success soon followed. His composition "Popsicles and Icicles" hit #3 on the US Hot 100 for The Murmaids in January 1964. The Monkees recorded another of his songs, "Saturday's Child". By the end of the 1960s, he had worked with many leading artists, including Elvis Presley, Bobby Darin, Merle Haggard, Duane Eddy and Brian Wilson. In 1965, Gates arranged the Glenn Yarbrough hit, "Baby, the Rain Must Fall." In 1966, he produced two singles on A&M Records for Captain Beefheart and The Magic Band which were hits in the Los Angeles area.

Oito anos depois do seu último trabalho em disco, lançado em 1994 e denominado "Love Is Always Seventeen ", David Gates reapareceria em 2002 com o CD compilação "THE DAVID GATES SONGBOOK - A LIFETIME OF MUSIC". Este álbum contém 20 músicas selecionadas exclusivamente por ele, sendo 10 delas versões originais de grandes sucessos da época do Bread, outras 5 provenientes de seus discos solo e mais 5 inéditas, embora haja entre essas últimas 5, uma faixa anteriormente já lançada. Trata-se de "Love Is Always Seventeen", apresentada aqui como inédita por causa de um novo arranjo de cordas, mantendo-a bastante bonita e comovente. O álbum traz um encarte detalhado sobre as canções e a carreira de Gates. Por incrível que possa parecer, a carreira solo deste extraordinário compositor foi subestimada. Não há como explicar que dezenas de suas composições pós-Bread não tenham ficado conhecidas, como ficaram "Goodbye Girl" e "Take Me Now", por exemplo. Baladas e soft-rocks suaves e extremamente harmonizados com sua voz pungente, isso sempre foi sua marca registrada. Este CD, em grande parte, é como um veículo para suas novas canções. Se acontecer de você estar se tornando um novo fã para os trabalhos de David Gates, este disco é uma sólida introdução à música do grande artista (e você é uma pessoa de muito bom gosto e sorte!). Pelo fato deste álbum estar composto, em sua maioria de faixas, por baladas, você não perceberá outras vertentes estilísticas indiscutíveis do talento de Gates. Tudo indica que esta seleção foi criada, para atrair a atenção sobre as novas músicas, juntando-as num álbum com os antigos sucessos. O que vai se descobrir em seguida, é que ele não perdeu e nem abandonou o seu grande talento musical.
Das músicas novas, destaco "Find Me", de temática voltada para a vida após a morte. Impressionante como esta música faz fundo para centenas (talvez milhares) de vídeos postados no YouTube. Muitos são, também, os vídeos com interpretações cover desta comovente balada, bem ao estilo do mestre. Outra inédita, "I Can´t Play the Songs", traz logo de início o piano fantástico de Larry Knechtel, ex-integrante do Bread já falecido, talentosíssimo e premiado músico, sempre presente nos discos de David Gates. Uma curiosidade para novos fãs: Larry Knechtel ganhou um Grammy em 1969/70, pelo seu arranjo de piano para a música "Bridge Over Troubled Water", mega sucesso de Simon & Garfunkel. Multi-instrumentista, Knechtel era um requisitadíssimo músico de estúdio antes de se juntar ao Bread e contribuir muito para o seu absoluto sucesso.
Assim, voltando a comentar sobre "The David Gates Songbook -- A Lifetime of Music", acho que este disco tem muita coisa para os novos e antigos admiradores de Gates. Mais de 40 anos depois de ter ouvido Bread pela primeira vez, sou a prova viva de que não dá para viver sem as músicas deste monstro sagrado que é David Gates, ao qual agradeço por tanta inspiração e sensibilidade, desejando-o longa e feliz vida, de todo o coração!

Deste disco, lançado em 1973, além de Larry Knechtel e Mike Botts, respectivamente tecladista/baixista e baterista do Bread, participam os seguintes músicos: Jimmy Getzoff, Jim Gordon, Jim Horn, John Guerin, Larry Carlton, Louie Shelton e Russ Kunkel. Todas as músicas foram compostas por David Gates. Deste álbum, destaco a "Suite: Clouds, Rain" de onde saiu a canção "Clouds", de duração mais comercial, muito bonita. Pontos também para "Ann" e "Lorilee", canção onde Mr. Gates deixa fluir um ritmo diferente ao de suas canções, cercado que estava dos ótimos músicos já citados.
O brilhante compositor, músico e cantor principal da extinta banda, é o autor de maravilhosas e inesquecíveis baladas do início dos anos 70, como é o caso de "If", "Everything I Own", "Aubrey", "Baby I´m-A Want You", "Make It With You", "The Guitar Man", entre outras.

"I'm trying to think of a way so that this will have anything to do with what we've talked about before. Imagine you're a hyper-educated avant-gardist in grad school learning to write. Okay. The screen gets all fuzzy now as the viewer is invited to imagine this. Uhm. Coming out of an avant-garde tradition, I get to this grad school and the grad school, turns out all the teachers are realists. They're not at all interested in post-, post-modern avant-garde stuff. Now there's an interesting delusion going on here. They, so they don't like my stuff. I believe that it's not because my stuff isn't good, but because they just don't happen to like this kind of aesthetic. In fact, known to them but unknown to me, the stuff was bad. It was indeed bad. So in the middle of all this, hating the teachers but hating them for exactly the wrong reason, uh -- this was spring of 1986, I remember, I remember who I went to see the movie with -- "Blue Velvet" comes out. Uhm. "Blue Velvet" comes out. "Blue Velvet" is, uhm a type of surrealism. It may have some it may have debts: there's a debt to Hitchcock somewhere; but it is an entirely new and original kind of surrealism. It no more comes out of a previous tradition or the post-modern tech- -- it is completely David Lynch. And I don't know how well you or your viewers would remember the film, but there are some very odd : there's a moment where a guy named the Yellow Man is shot in an apartment and then Jeffrey, uh the main character runs into the apartment. The guy's dead but he's still standing there. There's no explanation, you know, he's just standing there. And it is, it's almost classically French, Francophilistically surreal. Uhm and yet it seems absolutely true and absolutely appropriate.
"And there was this -- I know I'm taking a long time to answer your question -- there was this way in which I all of a sudden realized that the point of being post-modern or being avant-garde or whatever wasn't to follow in a certain kind of tradition: that all that stuff is BS imposed by critics and camp followers afterwards; that what the really great artists do, and it sounds very trite to say it out loud, but what the really great artists do is they're entirely themselves. They're entirely themselves. They've got their own vision, their own way of fracturing reality. And that if it's authentic and true, you will feel it in your nerve endings. And this is what "Blue Velvet" did for me. I'm not suggesting it would do it for any other viewer, but I all of a sudd-- Lynch very much helped snap me out of a kind of adolescent delusion that I was in about what sort of avant-garde art could be. And it's very odd because film and books are very different media. But I remember, I remember going with two poets and one other student fiction writer to go see this and then all of us going to the coffee shop afterwards and just, you know, slapping ourselves in the forehead. "One of the reasons why I stopped doing hip-hop - up until just recently - was because I had an opportunity to travel internationally. And I got to see the way that America was depicting Black men here...we looked really bad, and I was a real big part of that." The activist took a hiatus from rap to pursue an acting career, but unfortunately, as director Craig Brewer put it, if you're a dark-skinned Black man over six feet tall you'll only be cast as a thug or other negative characters. "I sat in LA for a year and barely got two auditions because I said I didn't wanna play that role again," Banner recalls, telling directors "I don't want to be your n******."
David Banner also chatted with us about police brutality. He and Vlad both agreed that the rate police officers are killing Black men and children hasn't changed for decades, but social media is bringing light to it more than it ever has before. "The original job for a policeman was to catch escaped slaves and protect the property of slave-owners. And it has not changed," he detested. "The only way you're gonna stop police brutality is if those police's lives are threatened, or if something is gonna happen to their children. Or if something is gonna happen to their jobs, their money [or] their lives."

We've been in touch with David since November 2006, when Camelot was relatively young. We had an interview arranged then, but David had to cancel due to an emergency; and several later attempts to reschedule it all met with logistical problems. Finally - over two years later! - we caught up with him in Sedona, and were able to sit down for a long conversation with him about his life and his work.
This is not an interview specifically about the information he's researched and presents so lucidly in his famous long presentations, and in his many books - all of which are packed with references, anecdotes and encyclopedic detail. It's more about the man behind his mission; what makes him tick, and what keeps him going; the source of his inner resolve; and, notably - anyone who mistakes David for a doomsayer, take note - his vision for Planet Earth: "The idea that this might not all have a successful outcome", he told us, "Never occurs to me."
David's unflinching and remarkable commitment to his cause has made life far easier for many who have come after him - including ourselves. We owe him our own vote of thanks, and in this two hour FutureTalk we pay tribute to his life's work, and to the man who is still standing after all these years, still marching on that road less traveled, determined to present what he suspects is the truth, whatever it is.

In this at times combative interview, an increasingly exasperated Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks listens as Duke goes on at great length attempting to substantiate his claims of a purported Jewish control of the media, the entertainment and banking industries and the US government - all while denying the label of anti-semite.

Born in London, Niven attended Heatherdown Preparatory School and Stowe before gaining a place at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. After Sandhurst he was gazetted a lieutenant in the Highland Light Infantry. Having developed an interest in acting, he left the Highland Light Infantry, travelled to Hollywood and had several minor roles in film. He first appeared as an extra in the British film There Goes the Bride (1932). From there, he hired an agent and had several small parts in films from 1933 to 1935, including a non-speaking part in MGM's Mutiny on the Bounty. This brought him to wider attention within the film industry and he was spotted by Samuel Goldwyn. Upon the outbreak of the Second World War, Niven returned to Britain and rejoined the army, being re-commissioned as a lieutenant.
Niven resumed his acting career after his demobilisation, and was voted the second most popular British actor in the 1945 Popularity Poll of British film stars. He appeared in A Matter of Life and Death (1946), The Bishop's Wife (1947) and Enchantment (1948), all of which received critical acclaim. Niven later appeared in The Elusive Pimpernel (1950), The Toast of New Orleans (1950), Happy Go Lovely (1951), Happy Ever After (1954) and Carrington V.C. (1955) before scoring a big success as Phileas Fogg in Michael Todd's production of Around the World in 80 Days. Niven appeared in nearly a hundred films, and many shows for TV. He also began writing books, with considerable commercial success.
