From an adventurous balloon ride above the clouds to a monster-filled metropolis, Academy Award®-winning director Pete Docter (Monsters, Inc., Up) has taken audiences to unique and imaginative places. In Disney•Pixar’s original movie Inside Out, he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all—inside the mind.
Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it's no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley's main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

In going inside Inside Out, we headed to Pixar headquarters in Emeryville, California, to speak with Docter, producer Jonas Rivera and the team of animators and technicians who made this vision a reality. Here are some of the biggest takeaways to know before the film hits theaters on June 19.
For some time, Disney animation has come under fire as being the complete opposite of diverse with their animated characters. While films like Pocahontas and The Princess And The Frog have helped add some much needed weight on the other side of the scales, the canon of Disney characters have been, for the most part, white protagonists.
It sounds like Inside Out will be a full-blown – and welcome – assault on our tear ducts. It opens in theaters on June 19, and we will have our full review on the site closer to that date.
The Seattle International Film Festival is something of a cinematic marathon. To help navigate the more than 400 movies, here are a few that you're going to be hearing a lot about coming up.
The year 2015 should be a rather big one for the folks at Pixar. But while The Good Dinosaur won’t be hitting theaters until the fall, today saw the first ever screening of Inside Out for attendees at the annual theater owners expo known as CinemaCon.
Inside Out is like nothing you’ve ever seen before from a Pixar movie, and that’s in part because of its animation. If it wasn’t for Mr. John Lasseter, Inside Out might not have ended up with this unique style.
How do you create something that’s familiar and relatable, but has never been seen before? That was the task director Pete Docter set out to accomplish with his next Pixar movie, Inside Out.
Disney and Pixar unleased an all-new Inside Out trailer that finally details what we can expect from this unique adventure. We've already met the setting, a young girl named Riley, and her emotions. But what actually is going on inside her head? Watch what happens when the most important emotion gets lost in the dark recesses of the brain.
In case you were off making dinner or sipping cocktails during the commercial breaks last night, we got to see some brand new footage of Pixar’s Inside Out from SNL’s 40th anniversary special.
What if I told you that the latest trailer for Pixar’s Inside Out actually manages to piss on the movie? Well, I’d be telling you the truth…kind of. The animated extravaganza recently dropped a demographic-appropriate new short clip yesterday during the Puppy Bowl, briefly showcasing the film along with footage of a multitude of - you guessed it - puppies.
As you nurse your New Years Eve hangover, scan through this list of the 15 most anticipated movies on the 2015 schedule. Mark the dates on your calendars, and tell us in the comments section which movies you can’t wait to see this year.
We have known for a while now that Pixar’s latest, Inside Out, will take us inside the emotional thought process of a little girl. The full trailer for the upcoming animated comedy finally shows us how… and expands the scope of the project.
Did you ever wonder what your emotions actually look like? Leave it to the animation geniuses at Pixar to put a visual on such human feelings as joy, anger, sadness, disgust and fear for their upcoming comedy Inside Out.
What’s Lava about? According to a studio release, the movie will be “a musical love story that takes place over millions of years” and was “inspired by the isolated beauty of tropical islands and the explosive allure of ocean volcanoes.” Sounds beautiful. And also sounds like a great excuse for Pixar’s animators to enjoy several field trips to gorgeous tropical islands.
Earlier this evening I was invited to the Director’s Guild of America screening room in Los Angeles where director Pete Doctor (Up, Monsters Inc.) and producer Jonas Rivera were on hand to give a handful of film journalists a preview of what they have in store with their upcoming movie.
Pete Docter said Riley isn’t the main character in Inside Out, but rather, the setting. He explains that Fear is another major player in the story (voiced by Bill Hader), and that, “I thought I was making a film about my daughter, but the truth is, I’m more making a film about myself in relation to my daughter."
After such wonderful films as Toy Story, The Incredibles, Up and Ratatouille, Pixar's brand is so strong that their very name makes us pumped for upcoming projects, whatever they are about. But one of their 2015 releases is now coming into sharper focus, as the widely acclaimed animation studio unveils a fuller plotline for Inside Out.
Pixar has been cranking out 3D versions of its past classics over the years. The first two Toy Story movies got a crack at theater audiences again. Finding Nemo and the initial Monsters, Inc. got the upgrade. Bird’s outputs are next up. We just don’t know when.
Superhero mash ups continue to rule the day, with Batman joining Superman on screen and Marvel reuniting The Avengers for a fight against Ultron. But potential sequels from the Jurassic Park and Terminator universes also have up cautiously optimistic for the Summer 2015 frame.
The news from today's D23 presentation by Walt Disney Animation and Pixar about the voice cast for The Good Dinosaur was exciting, sure, but it wasn't enough to eclipse the buzz for another new, original Pixar movie, Inside Out
To put it kindly, Cars 2 wasn’t good. And their subsequent films haven’t been as good either. While the studio’s films continue to make gobs of cash, nearly everyone agrees they aren’t as good as they once were. Even they seem to see that there’s a problem. So they’re making changes.
The first day of a new year is a cause for optimism. So it's fitting that Pixar, who received mixed reviews on their 2012 release Brave, is looking to put their best foot forward with some tantalizing teases for their forthcoming slate of animated features.
A lot of the critics of Brave took issue with the "twist," which is actuality the central plot of the movie, but which was cleverly hidden in much of the film's marketing. But here at CB, four us all were totally down with Brave and where the story unexpectedly led us, so we got together to figure out why some people objected to the movie so muc

While we countdown to June for the release of Pixar's exciting-looking new animated film Brave (check out the latest trailer here!), Pixar is looking ahead at future projects, which include a film based on the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos, the "Untitled Pixar Movie that Takes You Inside the Mind" and a dinosaur film that now has a title.
Lasseter's reveal, not just about the gender of the mind in question but the fact that we'll be limited to the mind of a child, gives a better sense of just how this might work, beyond just being a movie version of the "Body Wars" ride at EPCOT (remember that?) If you saw the Pixar short that preceded Toy Story 3
During Pixar’s Saturday panel at D23 Expo 2011, the animation studio revealed details on two planned features. The first announced feature, currently operating under the tongue-in-cheek title of The Untitled Pixar Movie About Dinosaurs, will be directed by Bob Peterson. The second feature, still in its earliest stage, was referenced as The Untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside The Mind.
