Wavertree is an area of Liverpool, in Merseyside, England, and is a Liverpool City Council ward. The population of the ward taken at the 2011 census was 14,772.Historically in Lancashire, it is bordered by a number of districts to the south and east of Liverpool city centre from Toxteth, Edge Hill, Fairfield, Old Swan, Childwall and Mossley Hill.
The name derives from the Old English words wæfre and treow, meaning "wavering tree", possibly in reference to aspen trees common locally. It has also been variously described as "a clearing in a wood" or "the place by the common pond". In the past the name has been spelt Watry, Wartre, Waurtree, Wavertre and Wavertree. The earliest settlement of Wavertree is attested to by the discovery of Bronze Age burial urns in Victoria Park in the mid-1880s. The Domesday Book reference is "Leving held Wauretreu. There are 2 carucates of land. It was worth 64 pence".
Wavertree was part of the parish of Childwall in the West Derby hundred.

The Wavertree Wakes Fayre was organised by the Wavertree Society and held on the swing park in Mill Lane, Liverpool. It was an old tradition, revived in 1987 to celebrate the Society's tenth birthday. This footage is of the 1990 event, which took place on Saturday 26 May.
On 9/24/16, the 1885 windjammer Wavertree returned home to New York's South Street Seaport after a $13 million, sixteen month restoration in Caddell Drydock in Staten Island. She was escorted home by the 1885 schooner Pioneer, the 1893 schooner Lettie G Howard and the 1931 fireboat John J. Harvey. The Wavertree, an full-rigged iron-hulled windjammer, has been a museum ship in at New York’s South Street Seaport Museum since 1969. She is one of the largest iron-hulled sailing ship afloat. Wavertree was built at Southampton, England in 1885 for R.W. Leyland & Company of Liverpool.

It follows me
Tries to divert me
It's going to break into my mind
Dark forces calling from above
From another side of life
Parasites gnaw at me
But I will always be
Alive
Always be alive
I see people walking
In shadows of themselves
Won't find their way home
And I hear them talking
But they don't understand at all
It's not their mind that talks
Dark forces calling from above
From another side of life
Parasites gnaw at me
But I will always be
Alive
Always be alive
I'm watching TV
"Don't do this, don't do that"
I switch off before I get mad
I'm reading the news
"Don't do this, don't do that"
I throw it away
And hope good mood returns
Dark forces calling from above
From another side of life
Parasites gnaw at me
But I will always be
