Excerpts:
Why is the new year a special day for Hindus, and why do they have new year on different days in different regions in India? Just as we have yearly cycles starting with our birth date, the nature has a cycle too. The way of new life in nature doesn't happen uniformly through out the world. In Punjab, they celebrate Vaisakhi in April/May. Indian new year starts with Chaitra.
According to the Hindu calendar, the current Kali Yuga spans 432,000

Hindu calendar is a collective name for most of the luni-sidereal calendars and sidereal calendars used in India since ancient times. Since ancient times it has undergone many changes in the process of regionalization and today there are several regional Indian Hindu calendars. It has also been standardized as Indian national calendar. Some of the more prominent regional Hindu calendars include the Nepali calendar, Assamese Calendar, Bengali calendar, Malayalam calendar, Tamil calendar, Telugu calendar, and Kannada calendar. The common feature of all regional Hindu calendars is that the names of the twelve months are the same (because the names are based in Sanskrit) though the spelling and pronunciation have come to vary slightly from region to region over thousands of years. The month which starts the year also varies from region to region. The Buddhist calendar and the traditional lunisolar calendars of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand are also based on an older version of the Hindu calendar.
Most of the Hindu calendars are inherited from a system first enunciated in Vedāṅga Jyotiṣa's of Lagadha, a late BC adjunct to the Veda-s, standardized in the Sūrya Siddhānta (3rd century) and subsequently reformed by astronomers such as Āryabhaṭa (AD 499), Varāhamihira (6th century), and Bhāskara II (12th century). Differences and regional variations abound in these computations, but the following is a general overview of Hindu lunisolar calendar.

What is Hindu calendar?
A documentary report all about Hindu calendar for the blind and visually impaired or for homework/assignment.
Hindu calendar is a collective name for most of the luni-sidereal calendars and sidereal calendars used in India since ancient times. It has undergone many changes in the process of regionalization, and today there are several regional Hindu calendars. It has also been standardized as the Indian national calendar. Some of the more prominent regional Hindu calendars include the Nepali calendar, Assamese calendar, Bengali calendar, Malayalam calendar, Tamil calendar, Vikrama Samvat used in Northern India, and Shalivahana calendar in the Deccan States of Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.

Significance of New Year, Ugadi -- Part 1 of 3
Speaker: Dr. Rama Krishna Rao
Date: 21 March 2010, 11:45 AM
Venue: Hindu Temple of San Antonio, 18518 Bandera Rd, Helotes, TX 78023
According to the Hindu calendar, the current Kali Yuga spans 432,000 years. The Yuga before this was 864,000 years. Treta Yuga lasted 1.2 million years, and Krita Yuga 1.728 million years. One Maha Yuga consists of all these four Yugas, and is of 4.32 million years long. 72 such Maha Yugas make up one Manvantara. One Manvantara is one day for Brahma.
Hindu calendar has 6 season per year: Vasant ritu (spring), Grishma ritu (summer), Varsha ritu (rain), Sharad ritu (late rain), Hemant ritu (early winter), and Shishir ritu (winter). When you look at Ugadi from the eternal point of view, this cyclical patterns is magical. Vishnusahasra Nama describes the new years thus:
AvartanO nivrutatma samvrutaha sampramardanaha
aha samvatsakO vanhiranalO dharaNee dharah
The eternal power behind all these changes keeps repeating things. And we salute that power. These changes will not affect that eternal power. The same power has created a smaller machine, the sun. The greatness of science was already perceived four thousand years ago in Vishnu Sahasra Nama in Mahabharatha written by Vyasa. The aim of the prayer should be to thank the lord for making us part of this great creation.
-- Part 2 ----
Calendar predictions:
Using Durganitha, each new year is given a new ruler. Ask a priest in Mysore, for example, and he would calculate exactly the times of lunar eclipses 50 years from now without the help of any computers, for example. That was the mathematical accuracy of their calculations.
This year (2010) is ruled by (senadhipathi) Mars (Kuja graha), and he is the king. This means that there is going to be a lot of warmness around the world. The mantri (minister) is Budha. Sasya, in charge of plants: Saturn (sani). Means that there'll not be much of good crops. Yama is pasunayaka. Means that there'll be lot of unfortunate deaths around the world, a lot of misunderstanding between the rulers in the world.
In spite of all this, we pray Mars (Kuja or Angaraka or Mangala) and praise him for our benefit:
dharaNI garbha sambhUtam vidyut kAnti samaprabham
kumAram shakti hastam cha mangalam pranamAmyaham.
-- Part 3 --
A cow asked the bull why he lost three legs though he was looking satvik and powerful. The bull answered that his four legs were made up of Tapah (meditation), Sauchah (cleanliness, internal and external), Daya (kindness), and Satyam (Truth). He was so proud and he had all his four legs once upon a time. As the time went on Krita, Dwapara, Treta, and now Kali Yuga, he had been losing one leg after another because people have been losing these values. Now he has only one leg that represents Satyam (Truth).
Now the bull asked the cow (also means GO, the mother earth) why she was looking so weak and worried. The cow said that she was ruled by good kings before like lord Krishna and they used to protect her well. Now that Krishna was gone, she was not treated well, and was worried.
This conversation was being witnessed by King Parishit. Just at that time the cow was being beaten by a man who was looking like a government's representative. The king was upset, and asked that man why he was beating the cow, when the country was being ruled by himself and he didn't order such a treatment for the cows and bulls who were sacrificing for the sake of society.
The man replied that his name was Kali, and that's how the nature of things are going to be in the new era, Kali Yuga. He said that in Kali Yuga people hurt unreasonably, cheat unreasonably, encourage greed and bad qualities unreasonably. King Parikshit was upset and ordered that man to stop doing what he was doing. He ordered that when people pray, lead a righteous life Kali should not stay in that place. Since he was a righteous king Kali should leave his kingdom.
Then Kali asked the king to show him (Kali) some place on earth to live. Parikshit told him that Kali should stay in that place wherever people practice:
lobham, anrutam, anaryam, aham jaishtAcha mAya kalahaschadambaha
navadhirvatham sadharmasyo dharmEna satyEna cha varchitoryaha
That is, the king ruled that Kali should go and rule those places where egotism and greed prevail, where alcohol is being used and abused, where women and their grace are being bought and sold. But wherever these things are not practised, Kali had no right to come in and rule.

Hanuman Jayanti 2015 At Leytonstone Hindu Temple London
Hanuman Jayanti - To mark the birth of Lord Hanuman, Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated all over India in the month of Chaitra in Hindu calendar. The great Hanuman is known for its great strength, power and his immortal devotion towards Lord Rama. He is considered to be a greatest follower of Lord Rama and played a crucial role in his life. He is also known as Sankat Mochan who people remember in both good and bad times. He is considered to be as one of the most powerful Hindu gods in India. According to Hindu mythology, as the son of 'Pawan', the God of Winds and 'Anjanee' often referred to as 'Pawanputra,' is blessed with immense physical and mental strength that is greatly inspiring.
Celebrations on Hanuman Jayanti began early in the day with special puja being performed by devotees. Devotees perform holy Puja in temples dedicated to Sree Hanuman or at Home. People in India organize special prayers for Lord Hanuman to get rid of evil spirits. The God is known for its magical powers. Prayers and Hymns are sung all day long in various Hanuman temples dedicated to the lord. Hanuman is considered as a symbol of Power and great strength in Hindu mythology. He is believed to have carried a whole mountain in his shoulder. On auspicious day of Hanuman Jayanti, People apply red Sindur from Lord's feet on their foreheads. This is considering being a ritual for good health and good luck.
Hanuman Jayanti is an occasion to remember Lord Hanuman's unbridled devotion to Lord Rama and his feats of daring. In their quest to fight against Ravana, Lord Hanuman led a monkey army and built a bridge to Lanka. He also carried a whole mountain of magic herbs on his shoulders to restore the life of Lakshman. Thus, the ubiquitous standing statue of Lord Hanuman with his heart stretched out open is at once a metaphoric as well as literal illustration of his infinite devotion to Lord Ram, his wife Sita and brother Lakshman.
In the epic tale of Ramayana, the extraordinary role of Lord Hanuman, an exemplary devotee of Lord Rama, is very well detailed out in situations requiring strength, will-power and courage. Lord Hanuman's character is lyrically elaborated in Tulsidas's 'Hanuman Chalisa'. Also invoked as 'Sankat Mochan', Lord Hanuman can avert any ill-effects posed by the nine planets to one's life as well as save one from the influence of evil spirits. In India, Tuesdays and Saturdays are dedicated to the worship of Lord Hanuman to get his blessings for progress, wisdom and fearlessness.

Rama Nawami (Devanāgarī: राम नवमी; IAST: Rāma navamī) is a Hindu festival, celebrating the birth of the god Rama to King Dasharatha and Queen Kausalya in Ayodhya. Rama, the seventh avatar of Vishnu, is one of the oldest avatars of Lord Vishnu having a human form. [2][3] [4] The holy day falls in the Shukla Paksha on the Navami, the ninth day of the month of Chaitra in the Hindu calendar. Thus it is also known as Chaitra Masa Suklapaksha Navami, and marks the end of the nine-day Chaitra-Navaratri (Vasanta Navaratri) celebrations. Rama navami is one of the most important Hindu festivals.
At some places the festival lasts the whole nine days of the Navaratri, thus the period is called 'Sri Rama Navaratra'.[5][6] It is marked by continuous recitals, Akhand Paath, mostly of the Ramacharitamanas, organized several days in advance to culminate on this day, with elaborate bhajan, kirtan and distribution of prasad after the puja and aarti. Images of the infant Rama are placed on cradles and rocked by devotees. Community meals are also organized.[7] Since Rama is believed to have been born at noon, temples and family shrines are elaborately decorated and traditional prayers are chanted together by the family in the morning. Also, at temples, special havans are organized, along with Vedic chanting of mantras and offerings of fruits and flowers. Many followers mark this day by vrata (fasting) through the day followed by feasting in the evening, or at the culmination of celebrations.[2][8][9] In South India, in Bhadrachalam the day is also celebrated as the wedding anniversary of Rama and his consort Sita. Sitarama Kalyanam, the ceremonial wedding ceremony of the divine couple is held at temples throughout the south region, with great fanfare and accompanied by group chanting of name of Rama.[10][11]
The important celebrations on this day take place at Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh) Sita Samahit Sthal (Sitamarhi) (Bihar), Bhadrachalam (Telangana) and Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu), thronged by thousands of devotees. Rathayatras, the chariot processions, also known as Shobha yatras of Rama, Sita, his brother Lakshmana and Hanuman, are taken out at several places,[2][12][13] including Ayodhya where thousands of people take a dip in the sacred river Sarayu.[14]

Property Expert: Akshaya Tritiya, the best time to buy home
Akshaya Tritiya is one of those days in the year where one stands to benefit significantly from every new acquisition.
According to Hindu mythology, Akshaya Tritiya is one of three days in the Hindu calendar when one does not need an exact muhurat to start something auspicious. Each moment of this day is considered propitious. For believers, there could be no better alternative.

Hindu calendar

Rama Navami 2015 At Leytonstone Hindu Temple London
Rama Navami 2015 At Leytonstone Hindu Temple London
