ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman and former president Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday gave a hard-hitting speech, where he lashed out at the military establishment for overstepping its domain.
The former president said army chiefs come and go every three years but the political leadership was here to stay. “We know the country better and we know how to run its affairs," he stressed.
Speaking at an oath-taking ceremony for party bearers belonging to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata, Zardari warned the establishment to refrain from character assassination of political parties. "If you do not stop, I will come out with a list of accused generals since Pakistan's creation."
Zardari went on to say he did not want to weaken the country’s institutions, but "they [establishment] should also not try to create hurdles for politicians."
"This is our country, our army and we want to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them."
He suggested that the establishment separate itself from politics and not interfere in matters out of its domain.
Turning towards the government, Zardari said PPP was a staunch supporter of democracy, which was why his party backed the PML-N government to complete its tenure.
“Had we joined Captain [Imran Khan] during his street protest and resigned from the Parliament, elections would have been inevitable.”
Zardari said he had supported the government because he did not want them to “later complain they had not been given their due time at the helm.”
"Others might be in a hurry, I am not. I can wait for the sake of democracy," said Zardari.
Talking about his political achievements, Zardari said he had given the country the 18th Constitutional Amendment, which he said was a milestone in the country’s democratic evolution.
Referring to former military dictator Pervez Musharraf, Zardari said: "I know the dangers that face Pakistan, Musharraf does not. Had he known, he would not say the things he did."
"I spent five years in jail during the time Musharraf was ruling, but the 'commando' is afraid to spend even three months in prison," said Zardari.
The PPP co-chairman said if his party took to the streets, not just Sindh, the entire country's roads will be blocked. "The whole country from Karachi to Khyber will come to a standstill and will remain so till I order otherwise."
Nisar condemns Zardari's remarks against army
Federal Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan termed Zardari's remarks as inappropriate and needless.
"It is obvious that Mr Zardari is targeting a sensitive national institution to veil his own wrongdoings," said Nisar.
The minister said it was unfortunate that these comments from the former president came at a time when Pakistan's soldiers were sacrificing their lives in the country's war against terrorism. Nisar said no national institution was responsible for PPP's diminishing popularity, adding that the party's own dismal governance had led to its downfall.
"Zardari sahab can say whatever he wants but every Pakistani respects and loves Pakistan Army."

He has threatened the nation to stop the Rangers from pursing their investigation any further. We all knows that if Rangers have issued a statement their must be some truth. Why should he be worried if he is as clean as he pretend to be. His statement reflect nothing but is reaction of his ands his party's guilt. I hope the Government doesn't give in to this blackmail otherwise army should step in and throw all the corrupt behind the bars until they all bring back the looted wealth so that our external borrowing can be reduced and debt burden relinquished
Let the democratic system continue and institutions be strengthened to provide justice and plug the corruption from the country.
“Had we joined Captain [Imran Khan]...elections would have been inevitable.”
Mr.Zardari elections democratic! There is nothing wrong with elections.
This needed to be said. It is time Pakistanis stopped elevating generals to the level of elected leaders of the nation.
@M Jamal . Are you serious??? The so called 'democracy' in Pakistan has done the opposite of what you are wishing.
you took no time in making sindh ultra undeveloped province and yet you have guts to speak like this. Keep doing it, this motivates me further to leave sindh forever.
@Ahmed . The word 'elevating' is used when someone is at a higher pedestal. For low life creatures (like our corrupt politicians) the correct word is 'stooping down'.
Some people think that there is virtually a Martial Law in Sindh but without any visible Martial Law Administrator.
Mr Zardari, People eyes over performance/actions not over speech. So please leave tactics of old politics.
political manipulation can never lead to a clean polity. 'Get Nawaz' campaign converted into 'Get Zardari' campaign.
For a politician to be so vocal and brazen........indicates that the other side has many weaknesses as well.
Mr Zardari is cool man, i thing something doing wrongly. he is so far democrat person.
We are fortunate to have an Army leader who belongs to family which sacrifices lives to defend country and he wants to make country better and end corruption and corrupt politicians.
Until now I opposed this military operation in sindh as it was just targeting only one party but now two thumbs up ...go after whoever exploiting common man.
@Mohammed U are right ; we have enough of corruptions and no politician wants to eradicate it for one reason or the other.
Even though we love our army, it should focus only on professional matters. Pakistan has already suffered quite a lot due to martial laws and lost east wing and Siachen due to weak civilian institutions and lack of accountability. It will take years to clear out the mess left by Musharraf.
As in the developed world, for consistent development, the democratic process must be stable. In the long run, the worst democracy is still better than the best dictatorship.
you are in trouble, Zardari sb
I have to laugh at this incompetent so called leader. Pakistan is in shales because of incompetent political leaders. If Pakistan had honest, sincere and competent leaders then Pakistan would be in the forefront like Turky, Korea, Malaysia, China, India etc. but we must put some blame on the sheep who are being herded by these blind shepherds. Military will go to their barracks when true leaders emerge.
Well done, Raheel Sharif! You're the nation's hero.
@nac Paris army's job is to secure the borders not interfere in politics.
Zardari, we love our army, and especially the COAS The most respected General Raheel Sharif. So keep your threats to yourself, we the civilians will stand with our General, come what may
isn't any person in their company who can tell such opportunist and accidental leader that general public abhor them. people have stopped believing in such politicians. cantonment board and GB elections are enough examples in this regard.
Indeed Army Chiefs come and go, but this one will take you with him. Whereas Gen. Sharif will be enjoying his retirement with clean conscious and live with his money hard earned by serving the nation; you Mr. Zardari may be either in exile living with your easy money earned by not serving the nation; Or else you will be answerable to the nation behind bars. Either way your time has come!
Some one is afraid of being exposed. All Pakistanis are with the army who are doing a great job taking on terrorists and economic terrorists. God bless Pakistan. God bless the armed forces of Pakistan.
@Peshawar We love our army, but we should follow the developed world if we want to develop. Worst democracy is still better then the best dictatorship.
What he did and how corruption groomed in his tenure. Politicians wants free hand. His dream should remain a dream.
And why did he bow his head to Establishment when he was President?
PPP must pay the price for their misdeeds and corruption. Army and Rangers are doing their job in fair and honest way. Mr. Zardari is trying to protect his corruption and his cronies. They must be brought to justice. People of Sindh are suffering just because of PPP's corruption.
COAS is our pride.. we love our army.... Whole nation stands with brave army....
"Army chiefs come and go but the political leadership is here to stay"...A A Zardari. That is exactly our tragedy, that political leaders are here to stay.
In Pakistan's history there have been very few times where criminals are held accountable. We are lucky to have a good Army chief who is cleaning the mess in Karachi. If people like Zardari are standing up and getting angry at this, then its no rocket science to figure out whats going here.
Mr. Zardari is main cause of the downfall of ppp. Ppp is now towards its decline. Zardari sahib is totally mistaken that he can bring people to streets. It is all bluff!
This is the country of 190 millions people and not of political parties who has the right to rule.
Zardari is not democratic even with his own son! People of Pakistan had given him a full mandate as a gift in sympathy with his killed in blast wife but, what is his return to people? Besides, since when is the constitutionally neutral president a final authority in democratic governance? Can we expect Rafiq Tarrar to do what he is doing?
Wow, first time I enjoyed reading Dawn news a lot. We have a bright future, thanks to our Army.
Zardari should also know that even politician comes every five years and go. Whats the point he is trying to make here, keep corruption alive ?
@Asif: Only when no other governmental organization including SC can do anything to crooks. Zardari know well that justice will be served to him soon.
Its time that Sindh is cleaned of these corrupt leaders who have done only one thing - looting everything that they possibly can.
You politician believe in looting the country turn by turn in the name of democracy & do not need any check & balance so that gets a free hand for the entire term. Shame to all of you. Do not worry about the Generals when masses woke up then no power can stop them & that day is not far. There is a limit of corruption & mismanagement
No one is bigger than the state. A fact the Bhutto family so conveniently failed to understand. Now they have passed this superiority complex to the Zardari family.
@Ahmed You can not blame Generals if the so called elected political leaders turn out to be crooks.
Ashamed that my puktoun brothers clapped during the speech;
Mr.Zardari keeps on reiterating the political martyrs of his family, while conveniently forgetting Major Aziz Bhatti and Shabbir Sharif (shaheed). Pakistani soldiers lay down their lives for the defence of their country, not for the thirst of power.
A truly shameful statement by Mr.Zardari.
Please go away and let Pakistan breath a little.
It is with regret that i have to say he is still roaming free and enjoying life
Bravo, Janaab Asif Ali Zardari Saaheb! This is what we expected from a constitutionally elected former president of Pakistan and the leader of one of the two largest political parties of the country. Better late than never. We also appreciate your magnanimous efforts for reconciliation with the MQM. Hopefully, the MQM will dissociate with Musharraf for ever.God bless and protect you.
(Malek Towghi/Tauqee, Ph.D., Liaison, Baloch Human Rights International --USA)
It is sad that a former President thinks his responsibility towards his political party is greater than his consideration for Pakistan and all of its national institutions including the military.
whether it is politicians, bureaucrats, Generals or Judges who have committed corruption must be exposed, tried and punished. The process of accountability with high integrity is the only way to the road of progress and socio-economic development
@nac Paris that includes Sharif's brother's too ain't it. I bet there is no corruption in Punjab.
Clean up Pakistan, no matter it's PPP, MQM, PTI, MLN or any one else.
There is nothing against the military in Mr. Zardari's speech. Pakistani army is as dear to him as to Nisar. Mr. Nisan needs not to play a stooge here. Both parties need to uphold the constitution which forbids the prominent role of militaries in democracies. Pak army zindabad.
At least Zardari got the guts to warn military.
great speech...
Love you for this awesome speech.
No doubt we Love pakistan army. Come what may....
@Ahmed you mean like justice was served to Z.A. Bhutto?
Zardari watch it, don't get carried away. Armed forces are backbone of this country, you politicians are always bad mouthing.
Zardari is my hero. Way to go.
Zardari has lost it. Simply lost it today. He is a goner.
Right statement, for wrong reasons ..
Strong words from a strong man. Zardari is probably the only honest Pakistani left in politics
@owais Khan I agree with Owais Khan. The constitution demands that all citizens and well-wishers of Pakistan should repeat what (former) President Asif Ali Zardari has now begun to say. I solute Zardari Saaheb's courage.
What can you do when you have enemies in your own backyard. Our politicians badmouth our backbone establishment Armed forces without even thinking what that have coming out of their mouths, they always look for their self interests. Shame on them.
well he too has some interesting points to say....
In other words, you scratch my back, I scratch your back. Another NRO is the wish but may not be filled? We all support democracy but what happened in his 5 years period is not hidden from any one.. 18th amendment has ill intentions of politicians specially the PPP.
@Ahmed
The public looks to the generals only when the so called elected leaders miserably fail to do any good for the country and the people, but indulge in self-aggrandizement, loot and plunder all the time when they are given the power to run the country.
Is DG Bilal or ISPR will answer?
@Fatima Cleaning up Pakistan is tough; blaming India for unclean Pakistan is easy and politically correct. Statements such as " the nuclear weapons are not there for use in Shab-e-Barat" is also easier than cleaning up Pakistan.
@Peshawar
Zardari is a very shrewd person. He knows that his time is up, hence indulging in histrionics.
As it has come from a very well known person, it has no sincere meaning.
All Pakistanis must unite in corruption and root out anyone against corruption is the message uncle Zardari is preaching :) else Pakistan will halt (as if it's already flying??)
Army is staying out of politics for the first time in the history and instead of applauding them mr zardari is only criticizing them .
@Ahmed Yes, and let the political leaders loot the country!!!!
Zardari wants to create his own dynasty in Pakistan!
@Akram well said.
Zardari will again use Sindh card and now against Army.
Zardari should show some maturity, panic is evident. Some 200 million minds except few have comprehended that authorities had displayed some few facts
DG Rangers is probably talking about the money in billions of dollars went abroad through people like Ayyan Ali . And Zardari is upset about it .
@Akram
Wow! super.
Mr. Zardari thank you, we heard you and we ignored you as no body believe you. You supported PML N bcoz a thief is a friend of another thief. You both are corrupt, mis-managed and ineligible. You are the corrupt champ, so better stay off.
This man Zardari has some nerve.
Mr. Zardari statement is not only irresponsible but also unwise. He wants free hand to continue his corruption and protect those who help him in this regard.
Its high time people decide on what they want. Army in barracks or army everywhere. But when you look back at your history, you were never happy with either.
No matter what the politicians do...time is running out, this is a Great Country, give it sometime, it MUST rise, it Will rise. Wait and see. God Bless Pakistan.
Mr Zardari, Pakistan and Sindh can do without you. You have ruined Bhuttos PPP. If you bought a one way ticket for yourself and your family to go settle in London next to Altaf Bhai, Pakistanis won't even miss you for a second. Your rant against the army means you don't like what rangers are doing in Karachi. The entire country is with the army so better get ready to pack your bags.
Oh he's in trouble. Zulfikar Mirza is already ready to spill all the beans against this guy.
Bravo, Zardari, Perfect speech. If you work in your domain we will stand with you shoulder to shoulder. hours of greatest need.
It seems Zardari and his party are cornered, its gonna get interesting especially if army decides to go after him, after all he is the root of a lot of problems in Pakistan.
The Army Chief should call Mr. Zardari's threat (bluff). The Corrupt General's list should be asked for and then the Army Chief should take action against Mr. Zardari. The sun is about to set.
Are these democratic leaders above the Law?
Bunch of theives
What an amazing day will it be when all these politicians are handed punishments for their crimes so visible even without investigation yet protected by their political standing. But all that is about to change. We cannot thank rangers and army enough for literally giving us yet another independence from the corrupt system.
He was out of order in his speech
Now it looks clear that something good is going to happen in Sind. And the hero is non other than Pakistan Army.
Its the elected government, not the military who should run the country. The military should focus on eradicating extremism and terrorists.
Zardari was a failure and his boasting speech wont make the party any bigger. If that was the case then PPP should have won the elections. PPP is shrinking further.
Irony is that these champions of democracy has the dubious character. They are miss-using the political power for plundering the national exchequer with their tall claims.
Politically and morally it would have been sound to have all corrupt leaders from political parties, as well as former military generals, and corrupt judges be brought to trial. Why there is no Rangers action in Lahore, Islamabad, and Peshawar against corrupt people, why only Sindhi leaders and Karachiites?
Why do you talk to shut the Pakistan why don't you say lets work more. Don't you know people work for daily food , if you can't fix just don't ruin
Brave man and brave words. One may not agree with him but at least he has the guts to address sensitive issues which no other politician does.
What Gen Zia couldn't do , Zardari did it to PPP. Very soon he will be back in his hiding place in Dubai. All of us remember that though being the president during his last altercation with the Army he had to find a refuge in Dubai. I pray he finds a permanent refuge this time.
@nac Paris To correct the on-going problems, its now or never. All wrong-doings have to be corrected, so people of Pakistan can get rid of trouble makers and look towards a prosperous future. Any ill-gotten assets must be returned to suffering people of Pakistan. Islamic Republic of Pakistsn was not created for few individuals or few families, millions sacrificed to get a homeland for all Pakistanis. Long Live Pakistan.
You are definitely right on that.. Indeed, you know how to plunder and ruin the country much better than anyone else. It is highly unfortunate that the army has to come in every so often to clean up the disgustingly messy situation these self proclaimed champions of democracy leave behind.
Be it a military or politician, experience has shown that no one is sincere to the country and the nation. All are selfish and looking for opportunity to loot the wealth of the country and to enjoy ruling over the helpless people of the country.
He is now afraid that old cases against him and other corrupt politician might be reopen.
PPP and Zardari fighting a great fight for democracy and freedom . Not whole agree with the socialist ideology of party but still there work and sacrifice for democracy is undeniable.
Who is better the corrupt politicians or the corrupt military . We need to decide once and forever. Pakistan has been under military rule for more than 50 to 60 years under military rule. What good we got out of it ? Definitely more and more away from the democracy and democratic norms. If we give 50 to 60 years to this crippled democracy , we would be able to establish a more democratic system like other democracies. The worst of democracies are better than best of dictatorships. Quaid e Azam established this country of democratic principles.
He has a point. Military in Pakistan has too much influence over civil and political affairs. Probably our long years under military rulers make it appear normal to us. But its never in the interest of a society to let gun wielders define policies.
It probably is the reason why political corruption in Pakistan appears worse than other countries where in fact it is not. There are people, in this case our Military, with vested interests in demonizing politicians. It makes them appear to be better choice over regular full time politicians.
I am speechless !!!! " as the saying goes, Chori pay Seena Zorhi"
Sounds like a condemned person who can see the writing on the wall and is trying to become a martyr. His and all politicians and others, billions of dollars of corruption should be exposed and they be tried. PML has failed to bring accountability to the country. Army should also check the FBR and customs for wrong doings.
A little more pressure from Sindh Rangers, our 'bold', outspoken ex accidental president will catch first flight to Dubai.
@Qamar so you think Military is solution to every problem then go and live in Nigeria please we don't need you.
Your game is over. We the people from Sindh are sick of listening to the words like 'Establishment'. Your party has failed to bring development packages for the province for last whole eight years.
@ali --really ?????????????????
@Mohammed how many police officers have been killed; it is just not the army personnels being killed other are losing their loved ones too. What about the Hazaras being killed with impunity. Deploy rangers in Quetta.
@Ahmed How many times have we had coup de tats, from Ayub Khan onwards. When there is a democratically elected Govt.,it is scared of the Army....What a joke???
@Asif ---the politicians are corrupt thiefs who are selling the country -------
RAHEEL SHAREEF is a hero -----he will save the country !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Zardari forgot one important rule of the land: any wrongdoing in this land can be forgiven unless you don't touch the Army. Be ready for the music now.
He had a point although the same applies to him too
This guy is just a 'former President' and should remember that, just let him rant as much as he wants.
Zardari is worried.
And who will question Mr Zardari for going out of domain in all directions in all these years...??
I m with army in this one they are trying to stop corruption. Zardari is so corrupt he knows that .thats why he is saying all thes3 things
complete low level and incompetent.
Thos fanatics writing in suport of army must understand army is for protection only and not for ruling country. Country have already seen the military rule and Pakistani democracy is often used in jokes.
Mr zardari y r u so worried .you are not corrupt.
@Asif army's job is to safeguard the country from inside or outside. because of the incompetency of these so called leaders, army has to step in everytime.
What a bold statement. Applause for you sir. Except Pakistan Army the army of every country follows the orders of their elected representatives. We Must say no to their hegemony.
@Peshawar when the times comes, pakistani people forget. no doubt musharraf's era was better but who is standing by him.
@Asif
Musharraf had the guts to tackle the indians!! Musharraf did not leave the country in a mess and as a matter Zardari did!!
Zardari we need more than slogans .... Show some progress and people will listen to you ..... dont fool masses by playing with words.... as actions speak louder than words...
Sixty eight years after the so called independance of India and Pakistan, a common man in both the countries is in worst shape then he/she was before August 14, 15, 1947. What a shame? Will it ever chane? We all know the answer. God bless all my brothers and sisters living in these countries.
@Ahmed;
Pak Army has never moved against any leader who had even a small amount of credibility left. When a leader's support falls to single digits is when he becomes vulnerable.
Stop challenging politicians corruption , this is their birth right.
@Mohammad;
'Pakistan is in shales because of incompetent political leaders.'
Don't confuse the issues. Our leaders are supremely competent at what they want to do, they look incompetent because we have ascribed our goals to them. The fact is that people are incompetent voters.
Those who are true democrates and understand political history should admire Zardari that he spoke against the powerful institution which always created hurdles for democracy. But on the other hand he availed complete term but failed to deliver it. To more extent Army is doing well on professional grounds in Karachi, FATA, etc. So better be careful in choosing appropriate words.
This is the out come of DG Rangers Sindh statement about politicians and I was astonished that how can a Govt servant who ever he may be can issue such statement his duty is to apprise the Govt of the day about what ever he finds and it is up to the Govt to say any thing or authorise him to go ahead.
@Asif;
'army's job is to secure the borders not interfere in politics.'
You haven't read the oath army officers, they have to fulfill the aspirations of the people. Army's job is to do anything that is not getting done.
@ ASIF
Not in case of Pakistan...please re-visit the history you will know what I mean.
Zardari is now showing his real side of the person. How can an ex-president make such irresponsible statements and that too related to our army, for whom entire nation has full respect.
zardari should be tried in army court for stealing Pakistani government wealth in putting it in his swiss bank
Zardari said he had supported the government because he did not want them to “later complain they had not been given their due time at the helm.”
you will not do any thing for democracy because PPP and PMLN are both corrupt and you two will keep doing muq muqqa.
on the other hand Pakistanis have not learned in last 67 years they do deserve corrupt peoples like you
Zardari warning to the army establishment is valid and timely -- and for Nisar to disagree is rather ostentatious -- Nisar forgot so quickly what happened to his friend boss only a decade ago.
No corrupt leader has ever survived on this earth and got the taste of their wrongdoing in the world. Please visit history of the world and we will find that the rulers who have not been fair to their country men and collected ill gotten money were one day brought to the court of the people and were treated according to their past deeds.
Look who is talking about democracy.
Just when the situation in Karachi and pakistan started improving, out come these utterings from disgruntled and dishonest politicians. The Army is doing a great service to the nation in removing unwanted, extermist and unlawful elements from Karachi. The operation needs to be taken to it's logical conclusion with no holds barred. We need to rid Karachi and Pakistan forever from the menace of terrorism, qabza mafia, kidnappers, smugglers, target killers, militants, dacoits and all other illegal and illegitimate groups. The country and it's cities need to be de-weaponised, criminals put behind bars and sentenced for their crimes, police de-politicised, corruption, red-tapism and nepotism rooted out and all appointments to be based on merit, ability and performance. We need to get rid of these issues and concentrate our energies in securing, developing and showcasing Pakistan as the next Asian Tiger. We need to move forward, with or without such obsolete elements.
@Mohammed Tell those so called "lives sacrificing" families to let others families enter into PMA. They aren't doing it for free, but for heavy benefits.
Mr. Zardari Pakistan Army is infinity times better than you they are Pakistanis to watch the country's affairs and the thieves. We need Army sorry not you. Pakistan and Armed Forces live till Qiamat ZINDABAD.
Our Country Need men like Abraham Lincoln or Joseph Stalin or Mao Tse Tung . Nation is now fed up with these Sensational Speech Jugglery by the Know Corrupt Leaders. Not a single useful Idea or Solution he is giving to solve the National Problems.
@Mohammed, We cannot and we should not support people only because of their family sacrifices. Bhutto's in that case will have a stronger claim. The old establishment tactics of maligning politicians and eulogising military strongmen at work.
Well-done Mr Zardari!!! Some prominent points. Gen Ayoob usurped power, destroyed country's fabric - no accountability. They surrendered, Bhutto brought them back - they hanged him. Gen Zia usurped power, his heirs became billionaires - no accountability. Humayun and Haroon, sons of a General lead sugar cartels - where did money come? no accountability. Few families became so called "lives sacrificing" ones, but still they create hurdles for others to enter PMA - their must be heavy benefits!!! Till their stooges kept constructing houses on government lands in Karachi, it was OK - as it started otherwise it became land grabbing for them.
Thank you Zardari for this speech. It shows the Rangers are on the right track and will further strengthen the resolve of Gerneral Raheel to fix Karachi and Sindh.
@Ahmed You call these lot leaders!
@Asif I am simply laughing at your logic. Long live Pak Army.
Rangers should not stop here. If they did than it will send a wrong signal and will make these corrupt political leasers more strong. Keep up this pressure on Zardari and company.
Mr.Zardari please for the sake of democracy expose the corrupt generals immediately. Do not insult our intelligence by telling us why you supported PMLN, THAT WAS Plain and simple SELF INTEREST, even a child knows that. You like democracy where you can loot and plunder unchecked. People gave you the message by kicking you out so now stay out. Seems like you want to continue by threatening that You can but won't expose the generals as long as they let you continue to practice your democratic robbery in Sindh.
Sadly the vicitims here are ordinary people of Pakistan whose rights both politicians and the military have robbed blind. Hope they take care of eachother.
Mr Zardari! Army is not in duty to protect the country for corrupt politicians to plunder its wealth! Pakistan Army we are with you. This is noting but democracy that every Pakistani except "Zardari" politicians is with Army.
Zardari the ex-president should not be forgiven for his comments against the military, there might be some evil elements people in their ranks but non bigger than Asif Zardari.
After Pakistan now they ruining Sindh.
"If the rats start squirming, you must be doing something right." Carry on, Rangers. The only complaint we have against you is that you have not been tough enough on the right people. Time now.
This Party should be merge with another party.
Thanks God, this time ppp not came into power.
Army only held NAB and Rangers in control, and the earth under them is shaking.
What if they do something?
I wish Army could clean up whole political mess before leaving the office. Our Raheel Sahab could step in one month before retiring! Nation would appreciate!
it's double standard! No ISPR response this time..
If he is as clean as he is pretending to be, why should he be worried? His statement reflects nothing but it appears as reaction of his and his party's guilt. The Government need not give in to this blackmail otherwise army should step in and throw all the corrupt behind the bars.
@Qamar Only among Pakistanis would "educated" people like you think that a military official is above the elected leaders of Pakistan. Civilized people understand that an elected official represents the people of that community. In disrespecting elected leaders, you disrespect the people of Pakistan. Gradually the people of Pakistan are wisening up to your kind of babus and your kind have no place in a civilized, democratic Pakistan.
Zardari must be feeling the heat for him to come out with a statement like this.
It's a courageous statement. Pakistan should follow the foot stepping of the other renowned democratic countries where the "Uniforms" have nothing to say on politics or democratically elected civilian government but to serve defense for the country only.
@Qamar well said .
@Mohammed half of me agree but the other half disagree. I remember when Raheel was going to multiple places with PM when the PTI sit in was at its peak. He seems to care more for nawaz sharif interest than the nation otherwise he could have avoided that photosessions.
@Ahmed So we should allow the politicians continue looting spree and keeping cursing our 'taqdeer' for it?
Who stopped PPPP & MQM from performing in THEIR OWN DOMAIN over the past seven years to restore law & order in Sindh especially Karachi? No more speeches, show your worth in favor of people if you can.
@TKhan Well said. Sure.
zardari should face against the ranger statement.
I cannot understand why some people here think that army intervention in Karachi is harmful or undemocratic. I have been born and brought up in Karachi, and to be very honest in Army's tenure Karachi has really prospered, and under the politicians like Mr. 10% and Bhai, Karachi has been bleeding. Some people from Punjab on this forum can never understand what the ground situation is in Karchi, so its very easy to stand up for people like Zardari or democracy. Under democracy Karachi has been suffering and as a Karachite I want my city to become the City of lights, it once was and Army can take any steps as long as they deliver a peaceful Karachi. For a common man in Karachi, democracy doesn't mean anything, what matters more is the safety for him and his family members.
Mr Zardari, you have louted enough money from Pakistan and the Pakistanis that your generations can eat from it. Now why don't you leave the politics and probably Pakistan as well once for all because most of your stolen assets are outside Pakistan anyway!!!
Pakistan's pride - Pak Army
He seems worried that now his crimes will be unearthed as army will investigate without fear and favour.
Investigators must be getting too close for Mr. AAZ's comfort that is why he is issuing meaningless warnings. He is one of the most corrupt people who have brought the province of Sindh to the edge of bankruptcy.
Army is not one person, it is a force which always stays whether there are politicians or no politicians. This time the Army has got the mandate from the nation and the nation is with the Army. We hope and pray that the Army succeeds in eradicating terrorism and looters.
@Asif China proved that development is achieved without democracy. even Americans have no answer to China progress
True... Army chief comes and goes BUT NOT ARMY Zardari sahab, ARMY and loyality for PAK will remain there InshaAllah. You should be thankful that Army allowed you to continue as president for 5 yrs.
@Anon , of course corruption and Zardari go hand in hand, but he is also trying to tell the nation that next time is his time, he can keep on dreaming there is no ban on it.
Zardari knows how to run the country? This must be a joke. The awam is with the Army till the very end and not these corrupt politicians. Clean the cities Army we are with you!
My suggestion, to be peace in Karachi is to forget old corruption cases but make sure it will not happen in the future.
Wait and see
@ali That idea might work well when we have repaired our deeply flawed and easily manipulated electoral system
Real politician!
I only wish he reads all the comments on this page.
@syed wasim haider Even if there is an invisible (virtual) Martial Law in Sindh who is at fault ? If not the fault of corrupt to the core rulers then whose ? Most of the political and some of the religious parties too - like JUI -F - are corrupt and selfish. They always want to save their own interests in the name of saving the democracy which is no where to be seen. The NAB and FIA both pursue only those corruption cases which are asked by the rulers. Rulers and their allies get acquitted by courts due to biased prosecution. In the given scenario the question arises is : Whether democracy is still The Best option?
Through out 5 years of his ruler ship maximum 5 times he showed his face, and the nation is still facing the issues created during his Government. It is so called democracy and behind the scene is their personal interests. Please go away of this country , we are already in hell just because of you selfish leaders. You people have theft enough from this country which will not be finished from your 20 generations even.
Well-Done Rangers and Long Live Pak Army.......whoever is working against the interest of the country... Go and get them where they are....
corruption must be eradicated from society and any involvement is proved of any politician, general, bureaucratic he must be taken to task.... Zardari should not resist it to save his corruption or corrupt government of Sindh.... why he did not use such language against army or Mushraf when Mohtrma BB was martyred..???? he reconciled even with those who were rightest side of the political spectrum and ally of the army and Mushraf...???? though it is fact that policies and intervention of the army have destroyed our country but just accusing army and pretending this that politicians are not guilty is not good in any way... country needs "Truth and Reconciliation Commission" to determine the way ahead for our country
I am not a Zardari fan, neither a member of the PPP. In fact I can stomach Zardari. I think what he said is meaningful and to the point. He must get credit for saying that he can see the elephant in the room. Army generals are servants of the People of Pakistan an elected Prime Minister is the personification of the people of Pakistan. You may have political differences with the elected but you can not show disrespect to the elected. Yes it is our Army so it must follow our lead ,not the other way round. Well done Zardari.
There democracy is hypocrisy. Long live Pak Army, entire Pakistani nation is with you.
Dear Mr. Zardari
You say “We know the country better and we know how to run its affairs,".
Sir, had you known the running of the Country better, you’d have proven when you’re the president. Sorry to say your poor performance has proven how well and what well you’re aware of.
"If you do not stop, I will come out with a list of accused generals since Pakistan's creation."
It’s suggested that do inform the concern authority about anything that is harm to the Country regardless of having concern for the position of wrong doer. Please don’t wait and threaten others that if you’d do this then I’ll do that.
"This is our country, our army and we want to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them."
I can’t believe it. To stand shoulder to shoulder with our army, do something for the Country and raise you up higher so that your shoulder can reach to shoulder of our army.
@Pakistani I am not with Army. Don't speak on behalf of the entire nation.
I am with Zardrai. He is right on this one.
Well done Mr. Zardari. I will not vote for you but you have spoken my mind.
A courageous statement on the part of former president Zardari, against the establishment's excesses is most laudable. The supremacy of civilian authority over the military should be strictly ensured if democracy is to survive and evolve in the country.
@Ahmed As the great leader Jinnah said that the Establishment including the Generals are the paid servants of the nation and not MASTERS.
I really don't understand that when Rangers are cleaning Karachi, why is a politician worried ????? He should be happy as people are getting security and peace !!!
Short of insulting these wadera, chaudry, sardar culture.... You and your supporters are weakening Pakistan !!!!!!
Raheal Sharif Zindabad !!!! These dynasties have to be sacrificed for liberation and independence of Pakistan !!! Under democracy there is no room for any dynasty to take country hostage, military or otherwise !!!!!!
@nac Paris My dear let's ask ourself a question. Do we want a democracy or autocracy? Corruption is endemic in the world over. I don't think in the world of today, anybody could stop this cancer. Be it a politician or a boy, they definitely have corruption. These two are not made up of milk in our country. Go back to the history, you will come to know the height of extent.
Those who favour generals should refer to the history. They would come to know the difference between elected and enforced. Corruption is endemic in all over the world. Let the democratic system work and stabilize. I know be it a politician or a general, corruption is in their nature. But we need elective representatives to cure this cancer. With the passage of time, we will significantly tame graft but sorry to say complete elimination is not possible.
Pak Army and Rangers are doing great job in restoring peace and exposing culprits who are behind destabilising Karachi…..Well done and Keep it up… AND MR 10 % you are not the one to dictate..Go away
@Khan, USA You have to be living in another world if you think Zardari has guts. He hides behind bullet proof screens whilst addressing people. Whilst the soldiers of Pakistan are risking there lives
somehow i will never understand why is there longstanding animosity between pakistan's army and political parties? i thought all organisations, agencies and political parties are united. when their is conflict of interests then such clashes arise. they just want to rule the country and nothing. no one is a true patriot. they are only aggressive and crave to be rulers and hence let their country suffer more and more. i wish pakistan get a strong democratic government so that it works on the front foot and army should be on the back foot only
