He left behind an extensive and diverse body of work in which he influenced his forward-looking contemporaries and anticipated some 20th century ideas and trends. Some of his most notable contributions were the invention of the symphonic poem, developing the concept of thematic transformation as part of his experiments in musical form, and making radical departures in harmony. He also played an important role in popularizing a wide array of music by transcribing it for piano.

►Liszt
Franz Liszt (Hungarian Liszt Ferencz, in modern usage Liszt Ferenc (October 22, 1811 – July 31, 1886) was a 19th-century Hungarian composer, virtuoso pianist, conductor, teacher and Franciscan tertiary.
Liszt gained renown in Europe during the early nineteenth century for his virtuosic skill as a pianist. He was said by his contemporaries to have been the most technically advanced pianist of his age, and in the 1840s he was considered to be the greatest pianist of all time. ►Liebesträume
Liebesträume (German for Dreams of Love) is a set of three solo piano works (S.541/R.211) by Franz Liszt, published in 1850. Originally the three Liebesträume were conceived as lieder after poems by Ludwig Uhland and Ferdinand Freiligrath. In 1850, two versions appeared simultaneously as a set of songs for high voice and piano, and as transcriptions for piano two-hands.
The two poems by Uhland and the one by Freiligrath depict three different forms of love. Uhland's Hohe Liebe (exalted love) is saintly or religious love: the "martyr" renounces worldly love and "heaven has opened its gates". The second song Seliger Tod (blessed death) is often known by its first line ("Gestorben war ich", "I had died"), and evokes erotic love; "dead" could be a metaphor here referring to what is known as "la petite mort" in French ("I was dead from love's bliss; I lay buried in her arms; I was wakened by her kisses; I saw heaven in her eyes"). Freiligrath's poem for the famous third Notturno is about unconditional mature love ("Love as long as you can!", "O lieb, so lang du lieben kannst").
Liebestraum No. 3 is the last of the three that Liszt wrote, and the most popular, and can be considered as split into three sections, each divided by a fast cadenza requiring dexterous finger work and a very high degree of technical ability.

Piano Sonata in B minor, S. 178 (1854)
This is the sonata for solo piano by Hungarian composer Franz Liszt (1811-1886). He composed it between 1852 and 1853 while traveling across Europe as a performing virtuoso, publishing it one year later with a dedication to Robert Schumann in return for dedicating his 1836 Fantasie in C, Op. 17 , to Liszt. Although the sonata is played as one continuous movement, it has three distinct sections: following a solemn invocation based of one of the principle themes, there is a stormy opening section marked Allegro energico, which introduces four other main motifs; next, there is a slow, meditative though emotionally fraught Recitativo section corresponding roughly to the development; then, the brisk Allegro energico tempo is resumed in a grand fugato that weaves together a few of the principle motifs, leading into a recapitulation of the first section and a more tranquil final coda.

Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2, S.244/2, is the second in a set of 19 Hungarian Rhapsodies by composer Franz Liszt, and is by far the most famous of the set. Few other piano solos have achieved such widespread popularity, offering the pianist the opportunity to reveal exceptional skill as a virtuoso, while providing the listener with an immediate and irresistible musical appeal.
In both the original piano solo form and in the orchestrated version this composition has enjoyed widespread use in animated cartoons. Its themes have also served as the basis of several popular songs.
The Hungarian-born composer and pianist Franz Liszt was strongly influenced by the music heard in his youth, particularly Hungarian folk music, with its unique gypsy scale, rhythmic spontaneity and direct, seductive expression. These elements would eventually play a significant role in Liszt's compositions. Although this prolific composer's works are highly varied in style, a relatively large part of his output is nationalistic in character, the Hungarian Rhapsodies being an ideal example.
Composed in 1847 and dedicated to Count László Teleki, Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 was first published as a piano solo in 1851 by Senff and Ricordi. Its immediate success and popularity on the concert stage soon led to an orchestrated version, arranged by the composer in collaboration with Franz Doppler, and published by Schuberth. In addition to the orchestral version, the composer arranged a piano duet version in 1874, published by Schuberth the following year.
By the late 19th century and early 20th century, the excruciating technical challenges of the piano solo version led to its acceptance as the "unofficial standard" by which every notable pianist would "prove his salt", usually as a smashing finale.[citation needed] It had become an expected staple of virtually every performance of the greatest pianists of the time. Offering an outstanding contrast to the serious and dramatic lassan, the following friska holds enormous appeal for audiences, with its simple alternating tonic and dominant harmonization, its energetic, toe-tapping rhythms, and breath-taking "pianistics".
Most unusual in this composition is the composer's invitation for the performer to improvise an original cadenza, although most pianists choose to decline the invitation. In 1997 Marc-André Hamelin performed a cadenza that has since become famous for its originality, musicality and playfulness, and Sergei Rachmaninoff also wrote a famous cadenza for his interpretation. Other pianists have arranged their own versions of the Rhapsody with changes beyond that of simply adding a cadenza, most notably Vladimir Horowitz in 1953.
The piece consists of two distinct sections.
The first is the lassan, with its brief but dramatic introduction. Although beginning on the C-sharp major triad, C-sharp minor is soon established as the home key. From this point on, the composer modulates freely, particularly to the tonic major and the relative major. The mood of the lassan is generally dark and melancholic, although it contains some playful and capricious moments.
The second section is the friska. It opens quietly in the key of F-sharp minor, but on its dominant chord, C sharp major, recalling a theme from the lassan. The alternating dominant and tonic harmonies quickly increase in volume, the tempo gaining momentum as the Friska's main theme (in F sharp major) is approached. At this point, the Friska begins its journey of ever-increasing energy and pianistic bravura, still underpinned by alternating tonic and dominant harmonies. Modulations are limited almost exclusively to the dominant (C sharp major) and the lowered mediant (A major). Before the final whirlwind of sound, a moment of calm prevails in the key of F sharp minor, recalling another of the lassan's themes, and is followed by the instruction, Cadenza ad lib. Finally, in the key of F-sharp major, there is a crescendo of prestissimo octaves, which ascend and then descend to cover almost the entire range of the keyboard and bringing the Rhapsody to a conclusion.
The Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 in C-sharp minor is also well-known due to its frequent use in animated cartoons.

This piece and story... Is one of, if not, thee most emotional and spiritual piece of music and story put together I ever come across in my life besides what resides in the Bible. I tried my best to do this piece justice by adding the visceral artwork(edited by me yet was originally all created by the one and only Gustave Dore) which was painted in the 1800's for the story of the Divina Commedia (the book that Liszts Dante Symphony is based off which was written in 1308).... The Circle of Lust in this symphony... is most definitely in the top three for being one of the most seductively and soul possesingly beautiful pieces I have ever had my ears hear... Ultimately, through all the pain, torture, disgust, and sadness that Dante experiences through this... Its all for Love in the end.

When you think of musical artists who can fill huge arenas to the rafters today, you may not immediately think of classical composer Franz Liszt. Watch and listen as a vast stadium audience listen in rapt attention to this beautifully sensitive performance of one of his best known works.
HAVASI, who has built a successful career and a huge fan base solely from performances of his own compositions is here - in a rare departure from his usual practice - performing a work by one of the great classical masters whom he revers.
Liszt’s ‘Dream of Love’ (Liebestraum, No. 3) is a masterpiece of romantic yearning. It encapsulates the special quality in classical works which makes them resonate even today: the toughness at the heart of passion in which expressive sensitivity is achieved through discipline and a thorough knowledge of rigorous musical rules.

Franz Liszt - The Christmas Tree Suite
Weihnachtsbaum (English: Christmas Tree; French: Arbre de Noel) is a suite of 12 pieces written by Franz Liszt in 1873-76, with revisions in 1881. The suite exists in versions for solo piano and piano four-hands.
Weihnachtsbaum does not demand great virtuosity, and it has been described as a distant relation of Schumann's Kinderszenen and Debussy's Children's Corner. It occupies an unusual place

Anniversaries are just great! The bicentenary of the birth of Franz Liszt - outstanding, hero-worshipped artist, star of the romantic 19th century - has given Joseph Moog the chance to present an anthology of rare transcriptions and paraphrases.
Throughout this generous programme, the young virtuoso takes us along previously virtually unexplored paths, with evocations of Bach, Beethoven, Schubert and Rossini, and settings such as a cathedral, an opera, a ball, or the delicate intimacy of a Romantic salon, illustrating Franz Liszt’s extraordinary versatility in every situation.
As a complement to these transcriptions and paraphrases, Joseph Moog chose the second Ballade, rare testimony of the introverted Liszt, contrasting with the sparkling Valse-Impromptu that closes this outstanding recital.

This is a continuation of my old account from 6 years ago (rareviolintreasures), I started running out of things to upload that were out of print or rare and was just too tired to continue because I was working in excess of 100 hour weeks. My intention was to get the majority of recordings I had that were difficult to find, once I felt I had accomplished this goal, I decided it was time to stop.
A few months later I somehow got locked out of my account so 6 years later I am ready to resume. It was my hope that many collectors would continue where I left off and I'm amazed and delighted to see how many recordings have been made public in my absence.
I have always encouraged sharing out of print recordings but it is upsetting to see recordings made public of recordings that are still commercially available. Alot has changed in my 6 year absence as some things that were in print no longer are and vice versa, so keep in mind I no longer have access to my old account and can not modify or delete anything I put up before, it has always been my intention to not share recordings that still are in print as this would reduce support for the artist. It is my intention to only share music that is no longer commercially in print as I am as respectful as I can be to artists and record companies that continue to make their art available to fans like me. My intention is to share recordings to make recordings available so they do not get lost or forgotten. It is also my wish to share recordings for fans like me but also for the purpose of those who study the violin and encourage all who listen to acquire their own personal copy of these recordings in the used cd/lp market, in other words even though you hear it here on you tube for free, get your own legitimate copy if you hear something you like. I also would like to encourage others to fill in the gaps and pick up where I let off with recordings I don't have or may have missed, but only if the recordings have gone out of print. I want to re-emphasize I discourage anyone to upload a recording if it is still being sold commercially.

In my mind, Rachel made the hall of fame for recording Liszt, has anyone else even tried? She is a true virtuoso able to play even the most vicious of of violin works with undeniable conviction. Her violin used here is an Amati who I think was the teacher of Stradivari if I'm not mistaken. She has a youtube channel and has been known to post messages at violinist.com from time to time.

It occupies an unusual place in Liszt's output, and it may be for these reasons that it has received relatively little attention from performers.
Liszt dedicated Weihnachtsbaum to his first grandchild Daniela von Bülow (1860-1940; daughter of Cosima and Hans von Bülow). Daniela had accompanied her grandfather to Rome due to his frail condition. The first performance was on Christmas Day 1881 in Daniela's Rome hotel room. This was the day on which her mother Cosima always celebrated her birthday, although she was actually born on Christmas Eve.
A number of the pieces are based on Christmas carols. The individual pieces are:
1. Psallite; Altes Weihnachtslied (Psallite; Old Christmas Song; originally a choral work by Michael Praetorius)
2. O heilige Nacht!; Weihnachtslied Nach Einer Alten Weise (O Holy Night!; Christmas Song on an Old Theme)
3. In dulci jubilo: Die Hirten an der Krippe (In dulci jubilo: The Shepherds at the Manger)
4. Adeste Fideles: Gleichsam als Marsch der heiligen drei Könige (Adeste Fideles: March of the Three Holy Kings)
5. Scherzoso: Man zuendet die Kerzen des Baumes an (Scherzoso: Lighting the Candles on the Tree at Last)
6. Glockenspiel (Carillon)
7. Schlummerlied (Slumber Song)
8. Altes provençalisches Weihnachtslied (Old Provençal Christmas Song)
9. Abendglocken (Evening Bells)
10. Ehemals (variously trans. as In Days Gone By, Old Times, Long Ago, Formerly)
11. Ungarisch (Hungarian; this is separately dedicated to Liszt's friend Kornél Ábrányi)
12. Polnisch (Polish)
The work is divided into three books of four pieces each. Not all of the pieces have a Christmas connection. In particular, the last three are believed to be autobiographical in nature, depicting Liszt's relationship with Princess Carolyne zu Sayn-Wittgenstein. Ehemals is said to depict their first meeting, and is similar in mood and spirit to the Valses oubliées. Ungarisch and Polnisch are said to represent Liszt and Carolyne individually.
