Sabratha, Sabratah or Siburata (Arabic: صبراتة), in the Zawiya District in the northwestern corner of modern Libya, was the westernmost of the "three cities" of Tripolis. From 2001 to 2007 it was the capital of the former Sabratha wa Sorman District. It lies on the Mediterranean coast about 66 km (41 mi) west of Tripoli. The extant archaeological site was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982.
Sabratha's port was established, perhaps about 500 BC, as a Phoenician trading-post that served as a coastal outlet for the products of the African hinterland. The Phoenicians gave it the Lybico-Berber name 'Sbrt'n', which suggests that there may have been a native town built there prior to the Phoenicians' arrival. Sabratha became part of the short-lived Numidian Kingdom of Massinissa before being Romanized and rebuilt in the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD. The Emperor Septimius Severus was born nearby in Leptis Magna, and Sabratha reached its monumental peak during the rule of the Severans. The city was badly damaged by earthquakes during the 4th century, particularly the quake of AD 365. It was rebuilt on a more modest scale by Byzantine governors. Within a hundred years of the Arab conquest of the maghreb, trade had shifted to other ports and Sabratha dwindled to a village.
Sigh and breathe
I conceive piercing eyes
that see through me
Bleeding heart - Good intentions
Unexcused hypocrisy
I see them rendered helpless in the corner of my eye
I know it's for the least of these that you had to die
Fear has bound me lifeless in my easy chair of grace
Instead of help I turn away can't look them in the face
Timeless battle - endless seige
Flesh and spirit collide in me
Lift me high - don't let me be
Another casualty
Sometimes I feel life passing by as I am standing still
In my safe and sheltered world I choose what is real.
I say that I believe but then misrepresent your name
Look at my reflection I'm the only one to blame
When will I know
To love you is more than just a show
When I look inside help me see
More of you - less of me
I can tell you what it is, I can tell you what is hard, I can tell you what a heart should be.
I can tell you what I love, tell you what I like, tell you what is on my mind so if you want to know I promise that I'll say it.
Do anything to keep you near here.
So tell me what you want to see, girl you know I'll take you there.
Damn, I got so much love, for you I'd die, for you I'd ride.
Ask me, then I'll turn the world.
Stop at the right, don't look, man.
Just as long as you understand.
[x2:]
If you want, you like, my watch, my chains, my rings.
Just to see your smile, I'd give out anything.
Give my love so you can breathe, love is all you need so breathe.
You can take my voice, my dear I promise I won't say a word.
Then take my feet and I'll be here until your grace returns.
We'll try to push the lever, put a fire through the pressure.
My dear, as long as you are here I'm right
So tell me what you want to see, girl you know I'll take you there.
Damn, I got so much love, for you I'd die, for you I'd ride.
Ask me, then I'll turn the world.
Stop at the right, don't look, man.
Just as long as you understand.
[x6:]
If you want, you like, my watch, my chains, my rings.
Just to see your smile, I'd give out anything.
