Rosie! is a 1967 film based on Ruth Gordon's play A Very Rich Woman.
Plot

Plot
Set sometime in the 1950s, 'The Robert & Rosie Show' is a warmhearted homage to sitcoms of the era, like 'I Love Lucy', 'Life With Elizabeth', and 'The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show'. Before Ricky loved Lucy and everybody loved Raymond, Milwaukee businessman Robert Hughes loved his doting wife, Rosie. The same holds true for their best friends, Charlie & Jan Johnson. When a power outage on double date night puts a kink in their television viewing plans, shenanigans ensue as the gang huddles together to wait it out.
Rosie: Honey, I was reading an interesting survey in my magazine today.::Robert: Oh?::Rosie: Yes. It reads, 'Who would you rather be stuck on a deserted island with?' A, Your Wife, or B...::Robert: B!

Back in '47, a gun was a roscoe, a private-eye was a Peeper, and murder was okay as long as nobody got hurt. In fact, anything was okay with this Peeper on the case because he wouldn't know who-done-it even if he done it himself.

She said she sad
she sad she lonely
lost in her room
she mad she go
she cry she smoke
rosie in bloom
she is so high
she is so low
day after day
she said she sad
she sad she lonely
open your eyes
riding to rosie
rosie sixteen
rosie awakes in the morning
riding to rosie
where have you been
rosie is sick of the weather
long time no see
long time no rosie
I like to swim
every now and then
she swim she wet
she out she dry
play in the sand
with a plastic boy
riding to rosie
rosie sixteen
rosie is sick of the weather
rinding to rosie
where have you been
rosie is never together
she said she sad
she said she lonely
lost in her room
she mad she go
she cry she smoke
rosie in bloom
riding to rosie
rosie sixteen
rosie is sick of the weather
riding to rosie
where have you been
Rainbow child, I used to call her name a lot when love was doing well
We have start to call of you away from me but most of all yourself
Got what you're looking for, waving bye to the poor
Got what you're gazing at, understanding and respect
Oh Rosie, got it made, got it made, got it made, got it made
Oh yeah Rosie, got it made, got it made, got it made, got it made
Rainbow star, oh you fly too high, above our heads just held by a string
Look how Rose cause the fall is coming, your shadow tells the state you're in
Got what you're looking for, waving bye to the poor
Got what you're gazing at, understanding and respect
Oh Rosie, got it made, got it made, got it made, got it made
Oh yeah Rosie, got it made, got it made, got it made, got it made
Got what you're looking for, waving bye to the poor
Tell me, girl, what is it like to be a goddess overnight, yeah
What do you fear the most: suicide or local dope
Oh Rosie, got it made, got it made, got it made, got it made
Oh Rosie, got it made, got it made, got it made, got it made
Oh Rosie, got it made, got it made, got it made, got it made
Oh Rosie, got it made, got it made, got it made, got it made
Swarbrick
In know Rosie,
You're living in a world you didn't make
And I know it's hard feeling happy
When the things you want aren't even there to take
(Chorus:)
Come on Rosie, rosin up the bow
For the more I learn it's the less I seem to know
Lie down cozy and let's learn to take things slow
For the more I learn it's the less I seem to know
Of my Rosie
Come on, my Rosie, rosin up the bow.
Throw away your uniform
Now's the time to take things by the hand
Come on in and take your coat off
Settle down and listen to the band
And ain't that grand, Rosie
He has little red feet
His stockin's in his shoes
Lipstick and rouge on his face
He has his hair piled high
Has a red umbrella
And carries his head in the sky
And I said "Awe Rosie, don't you do that to the boys
Don't you come on so willin'
Don't you come on so strong
It can be so chillin'
When you act so willin'
And your warmth sets like the sun"
He has a little baby brother
A big fat mama
His sister asks for dimes on the street
He doesn't feel it's a cover
In fact he knows
For sure he can please
I said he's out there right now
Running with the devil
Struttin' down the alley ways
With the nervous young hopeful
At his heel and know
His satisfaction won't drive him away
And I said "Awe Rosie, don't you do that to the boys
Don't you come on so willin'
Don't you come on so strong
It can be so chillin'
When you act so willin'
And your warmth sets like the sun"
He's not looking for a friend
He's not looking for a lover
There in the crowded bar
He has rings on his fingers
He's there to tease
You know he only wants to take things too far
And I said "Awe Rosie, don't you do that to the boys
Don't you come on so willin'
Don't you come on so strong
It can be so chillin'
When you act so willin'
And your warmth sets like the sun"
And I said "Awe Rosie, don't you do that to the boys
Don't you come on so willin'
Don't you come on so strong
It can be so chillin'
When you act so willin'
And your warmth sets like the sun"
And I said "Awe Rosie, don't you do that to the boys
Don't you come on so willin'
Don't you come on so strong
It can be so chillin'
Rosie, I wish that you were here
I miss you so much
Rosie, my dear
Rosie, I miss the hell that we raised
And the trails that we blazed
I miss the other half of me
My Rosie
Rosie, we played our song to death
Now the piano's out of tune
And the singer's out of breath
Rosie, do you love me still
Rosie, my little daffodil
I was a lanky private
Who thought he knew it all
Swept off his feet by a right Bobby Dazzler
The RAF and the WREN
Like old mother hens
Strutting through our lives going...
Quack, quack, quack
Private who?
Quack, quack, quack
He's no good for you
Those were the years
When beer was beer
And you knew where you stood
The laughing stock of the neighborhood
Down at the local Palais
Me and the lads were having a knees up
I turns round to Harry
What's that noise rattling the tea cups
Better get your head down
Sounds like another V.1.
Everyone was screaming and shouting
And making the most appalling noise
So not unnaturally
I popped out to see exactly what had happened
Somebody said that the bomb
Had missed the Palais by inches
But had totally destroyed the next street
The next street
We live in the next street
Rosie, Rosie
Rosie, I wish you were here
I miss you so much
Rosie, my dear
Rosie, do you love me still
He has little red feet
His stockin's in his shoes
Lipstick and rouge on his face
He has his hair piled high
Has a red umbrella
And carries his head in the sky
And I said: "Oh, Rosie
Don't you do that to the boys
Don't you come on so willing
Don't you come on so strong
It can be so chillin'
When you act so willin'
And your warmth sets like the sun"
He has a little baby brother
A big fat mama
His sister asks for dimes on the street
He doesn't feel it's a cover

Well, the cars are leaving town
The winter's moving in
A tree has been torn down
By an ill wind, an ill wind
Oh, Rosie can you tell my age?
From where I sit I'm younger than I look
But old enough to know the half of it
Rosie, Rosie, what you gonna do about it?
Rosie, Rosie, what you gonna do about it?
You could still fly south
Before they find you out
Rosie
Well, you've got needles in your eyes
From all those glances that you stole
Any secret that's worth keeping
Will always burn a hole
Oh, I saw you over coffee
Four sugars and some cream
You were smiling quietly
Holding your face over the steam
Rosie, Rosie, what you gonna do about it?
Rosie, Rosie, what you gonna do about it?
You could still fly south
Before they find you out
Rosie
And anyone who calls your bluff will learn
That you don't need a match to get your fingers burned
Well, it's a wild December night
And you have packed your bags and gone
And you haven't old a soul
Which plane that you got on
And you left behind your letters
Your hairbrush and your red shoes
You left behind your name and
A little boy who looks like you
Rosie, Rosie, what you gonna do about it?
Rosie, Rosie, what you gonna do about it?
You could still fly south
Before they find you out
Rosie
Rosie
I`ve been out all night up and down the lonely backstreets in and out of every bar-room door every hangout that we used to know
and I feel so strange seeing the old familiar faces doing my best to keep myself in touch but I keep missing you much too much
and I wonder what you`re doing for love these days it`s been a long time since anybody here has seen your face yes I wonder will I find someone to take your place life ain`t easy without you, it`s cold here these days
Rosie it`s been so long since I`ve seen you it`s been so hard here without you I can`t stop thinking about you Rosie sometimes I think that I see you sometimes I think that I feel you Rosie it`s cold here these days
it`s the same old town nothing else seems to change too much even the movie at the all night show I`ve seen it play a dozen times or more
and I feel so strange something blindly through the darkness it`s allways empty at the backrow seats until I close my eyes `n you`re with me
Chorus
and I wonder do you go out at night and do you ever get fooled in the neonlight and do you think you see my face where sometimes I think it`s you and when you disappear from sight just another shadow in the night another shadow in the night
From Bye Bye Birdie soundtrack
I was never crazy for flowers
I confess that nothing left me colder.
I could watch a daisy for hours
and all i'd feel was several hours older.
Lilacs or lilies,
anything you please
all that they did was make me shrug or sneeze.
But now i love each blossom that i see
for a lovely little rose loves me.
Now my life is Rosie,
since i found my Rosie.
With a girl like rosie
how could i be blue?
Hand in hand we'll mosey
Me and little Rosie.
We will be so cozy
by a fire built for two.
Oh i once heard a poem that goes
A rose is a rose is a rose.
But i don't agree
Take it from me,
There's one rose sweeter than any that grows
That's my Rosie.
I'm so glad you chose me.
Life is one, sweet, beautiful song
to me.
JA: Now my life is Rosie
VW: Oh, we'll be happy I know.
JA: Since I found my Rosie.
VW: Off to the preacher we'll go.
JA: With a girl like ROsie
VW: So how could we
JA: How could I be blue?
VW: Be blue?
VW: Oh we'll have us a home out west.
A nice, little split, level nest.
And in every room, roses in bloom
JA: but there's one Rose sweeter than all of the rest.
JA: And that's my Rosie
Both:
I'm so glad you chose me.
Life is one, sweet, beautiful song.
If love is right, then, what could be wrong?
Well I'm sitting on a windowsill, blowing my horn
Nobody's up except the moon and me,
And a lazy old tomcat on a midnight spree
All that you left me was a melody.
Rosie, why do you evade? Rosie,
How can I persuade? Rosie...
And the moon's all up, full and big,
Apricot tips in an indigo sky,
And I've been loving you, Rosie,
Since the day I was born
And I'll love you, Rosie 'til the day I die.
Rosie, why do you evade? Rosie,
How can I persuade? Rosie...
Rosie, why do you evade? Rosie,
How can I persuade? Rosie...
And I'm sitting on a windowsill, blowing my horn
Nobody's up except the moon and me,
And a lazy old tomcat on a midnight spree
All that you left me was a melody.
Rosie, why do you evade?
Rosie died so suddenly
So young and so much like me
So... where did Rosie go?
I did not know Rosie well
But she woke me up to smell
My own mortality
Goddamn this feeling
Make it go away,
I close my eyes
To make it go away, make it go away, make it go away ...
One step forward and two steps back
The circumstances in life just hit me with a smack, oh
So where did Rosie go?
One thing is heaven - another is the sky
Where will I go when one day I die?
Where will I go?
Goddamn this feeling
Make it go away,
I close my eyes
To make it go away, make it go away, make it go away
To make it go away, make it go away, make it go away
Rosie, youre so dear to me
I helped you with your mathematics
And geography
I said rosie
Its so clear to see
You only went with me
Because you thought i had money
You must have thought that i was blind
I shared with you the daily grind
There was a space inside my mind
That thought you were one of a kind
But then you go and break the rules
You really played me for a fool
I need to get my life on track
And you can take your feelings back
She was standing at the load-in
When the trucks rolled up
She was sniffing all around
Like a half grown female pup
She wasn't hard to talk to
Looked like she had nowhere to go
So I gave her a pass
So she could get in and see the show
Well, I sat her down right next to me
And I got her a beer
While I mixed that sound on stage
So the band could hear
The more I watched her watch them play
The less I thought of to say
And when they walked off stage
The drummer swept that girl away
But Rosie you're all right, you wear my ring
When you hold me tight, Rosie that's my thing
When you turn out the light, I've got to hand it to me
It looks like it's me and you again tonight, Rosie
Well I guess I might have known from the start
She'd come for a star
Could have told my imagination not to run too far
Of all the times that I've been burned
By now you'd think I'd have learned
That it's who you look like not who you are
But Rosie you're all right, you wear my ring
When you hold me tight, Rosie that's my thing
When you turn out the light, I've got to hand it to me
It looks like it's me and you again tonight, Rosie
It looks like it's me and you again tonight
It looks like it's me and you again tonight, Rosie
Rosie, Rosie, Rosie, Rosie
Rosie, my dear
Don't leave me hanging out
Can I ask you to
Not ask me questions
Give me a way
I won't need much
I wanted you back when
It was an issue
Come in here
Leave me with my insights
Give me my dignity
Darling, be weird
I don't run either way
I wouldn't risk
All your darkness
(Sambora, J Bon Jovi, Child, Warren)
Rosie whatc'ya doin' in this low class joint
Dancin' in the dark all day
You used to be the darlin' of your high school scene
Now you put your love on display
Sweaty hands hand you up a dollar bill
Hungry eyes never seem to get their fill
Oh, oh... I used to watch you walkin' down the hall
Remember when I used to call your name
Rosie, Rosie -I wanna take you away
Rosie, Rosie -I'm gonna make you mine someday
Rosie, I went with you for that rose tattoo
You promised no one else would see
And I would wait to drive you home from dancin' school
Remember when you danced just for me
Our love was deeper than the night was long
But things just didn't work out like our favorite song
Baby, don't you know we could have had it all?
Rosie do you see me when you hear them call your name?
Rosie, Rosie -I wanna take you away
Rosie, Rosie -I'm gonna make you mine someday
Oh, oh, oh! (oh, oh, oh!)
Yeah, yeah, yeah! (yeah, yeah, yeah!)
Wooow, ow... Rosie (bis)
[guitar solo]
Promises are promised, some are meant to keep
Some are meant to breaking 'cause you're in too deep
I wish I'd never seen this place before
Because it kills me when I hear them call your name
[all] Rosie!
Rosie, Rosie -I wanna take you away
Rosie, Rosie -I'm gonna make you mine someday
Oh, oh, oh! (oh, oh, oh!)
Yeah, yeah, yeah! (yeah, yeah, yeah!)
Wooow, ow... Rosie (bis)
Uh... Yeah
Elle était déjà là bien avant
Que les camions ne viennent,
Elle tournait comme une enfant,
Une poupée derrière la scène.
C'était facile de lui parler,
On a échangé quelques mots,
I...smile...when Rosie comes to see me
And I'm sad when Rosie goes away
Cuz, Rosie brings the sunshine
I...smile...cuz Rosie let's me be me
Love grows with Rosie every day
Cuz Rosie brings the sunshine
And I'm in love with Rosie
Cuz Rosie treats me good
Making people smile that's Roses art
I fell in love with Rosie
Anybody would...Rosie grows like flowers in my heart
I...smile...when Rosie comes to see me
And I'm sad when Rosie goes away
Cuz Rosie brings the sunshine.

COUPLET 1:
See the same old cloud again
Wash my hands and shake my feet
And yes I missed you all
Since I last saw you I fell down the rabbit hole
As I wonder what we'd be like
Wrapped up so uptight with you
Lust will do funny things
I don't want you to go out looking so good
And you look sooo good...
REFRAIN:
Rosie, well I feel your love and I want you to breathe to be
Still take your time to get to me, Rosie...
COUPLET 2:
She looked away as I mentioned my name
Street lights light up my shame
The world takes you and swallowed you whole
Your a big girl and I think that you already know
You've been bought and sold...
BRIDGE 1:
Be careful with me
See that all that you see
Joy died in a day for little Rosie...
REFRAIN:
Rosie, well I feel your love and I want you to breathe to be
Still take your time to get to me, Rosie...
BRIDGE 2:
Gonna find you now I'll walk the beat
And you'll do me a pirouette on the street
And though we'll fall we'll find our feet
Yeaaah...
Oh I wont take you so easily
Illusions pass and now I see
Image is just so different to reality
Rosie...
Oh Ro-Rosiiie...
Rosie, oh, Rosie
I'd like to paint your face up in the sky
Sometimes when I'm busy
Relaxing I look up and catch your eye
Your eyes when they're widening
Bring thunder and lightening
And sunset strokes the colour to your skin
Your eyes are so blue
I just think of a blue sky
And bumble bees buzzing on the wing
Rosie, oh, Rosie
It's raining when you look the other way
Rosie, oh, Rosie
Your laughter brings the sunshine out to play
And though I just met you
Well, I silhouette you
Or highlight golden shadows in your hair
I'm painting your minds eye
Up there in the blue sky
Summer birds swinging through the air
Rosie, oh, Rosie
I paint your face for all the world to see
Rosie, oh, Rosie
They say today should be okay
do I have to get on my knees and pray
you tell me your phone when you get home
I know one day they're gonna take me away
and think you too you're so cruel to mine
Rosie, Rosie, Rosie what I've got to do
You think you're right when you're wrong
it's cause you're have your own with fat around
it's looks so nice for colders eyes
the thoughts in search your mind is don't belong
it looks so good I wish it could
Rosie, Rosie, Rosie...
Rosie helped the kids stay alive
She gave them the drugs so they didn't die
She cleaned up their mess as they wept and they moaned
She got paid so little, she rented her home
An angel face with the strength of a tower
Worked everyday, every minute, every hour
When she wasn't on the ward, she was traveling on the train
Through the wind and the sun, and the snow, and the rain
Oh, Rosie, we thank you again
Oh, Rosie, we thank you again
Works all day, no time to eat
Running back and forth to help children see
We piss up her wall, all the poison we take
She barely gets out, not to dine or to drink
I tip my hat to the angels on the ward
You're in my heart with love forever more
I thank you now for saving my girl
And bringing her back to her own little world
Oh, Rosie, I thank you again
Oh, Rosie, I thank you again
