NOTE: This is another upload of the same match that I had uploaded previously, now in higher quality. Friday 20th May 2011, a win for the Cats inspired by the late Bob Davis. The Geelong legend of the 50's and 60's passed away earlier in the week and was remembered before the match with a minute's silence. Besides that, a massive Etihad Stadium crowd of over 48,000 people came to witness a brilliant contest between 2 top four sides. On a personal note, I think this is the best game I have ever been to. Geelong was seriously challenged all night. They never led by more than 14 points and Carlton definitely came out to play! For a lot of the 1st half it was all Carlton. They kicked 4 of the first 5 goals and were 20 points in front. It then became a seesawing battle until midway through the 2nd quarter when the margin was again 20 points. The Cats slowly worked their way back in it and were level on the scoreboard at half time. The 3rd quarter belonged to Travis Varcoe. He kicked the first 2 goals and Geelong all of a sudden was 14 points in front. However, Carlton showed great determination all night and later in the quarter they were back in front. With a little bit of Chris Judd magic, they were back out to a 6-point lead midway through the final quarter, but the old fighting qualities of the Cats saw them kick another 3 goals. The Cats seemed to have got the job done, but it could have been a different story had Robert Warnock kicked a goal for Carlton. It was an inspired performance from both teams, but Geelong got the reward and, as pointed out by Andrew Mackie on the final siren with his black arm band, they had done it for Bobby Davis. Joel Selwood and James Kelly continued their purple patches of form in this match, both gathering 29 disposals. Geelong by 2 points. Carlton 15.10 (100) defeated by Geelong 15.12 (102).
