On this episode of Roadkill, it's 2,600 miles, 530 cubic inches, 700 horsepower, six speeds, 17 mpg, and two fun visits with some friends from TV. Last time, on Roadkill Episode 29, we finished our Chrysler-Hemi-powered 1955 Chevrolet gasser in about two weeks of thrashing (it's the same car you saw us take, as a bare shell, to Jim Meyer Racing in Oregon in Episode 8). On this latest episode, we drive it around the block once, then hit the road on a 2,600-mile journey from Los Angeles to the kickoff party of the 2014 HOT ROD Power Tour in Concord, North Carolina. On the way, there's the breakdowns you expect from Roadkill, plus two surprises: a stop at Midwest Street Cars with Justin "Big Chief" Shearer and Shawn "Murder Nova" Ellington from Street Outlaws, and another with Rutledge Wood from Top Gear USA. The '55 Chevy is based on an original body with new quarters and floors and a fiberglass decklid and tilt front end, and Lexan windows from ProGlass. It's not in primer: the car was wrapped in satin black by Moody from High-Tech Auto Wraps. The car sits on a complete gasser chassis from Jim Meyer Racing with a solid front axle on leaf springs and a ladder-bar setup with Vicking coilovers on the rear. The rear tires are reproduction Firestone piecrust slicks from Coker tire, and the fronts are just like stock VW Bug tires. The engine is a 530ci Hemi based on a Mopar Performance crate engine. With a Comp solid roller cam, 10.5:1 compression, homemade 2-1/4-inch headers from a Hedman kit, and Hilborn stack injection powered by a FAST XFI controller and Aeromotive fuel system, it makes 700 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque. We were stunned to see 17 mpg a few times on the cross-country trip, especially with absurd 5.43 gears in the Ford 9-inch rear axle. The key to it all is the Tremec T56 Magnum six-speed manual double-overdrive trans installed with a conversion kit from American Powertrain. The car uses a Speedwires harness, charging and starting by Powermaster, and a Braille lightweight battery in the trunk. Tak kurang dari sepuluh kali tepuk tangan panjang memotong pidato proklamator Republik Indonesia itu. "Dunia kita yang malang ini terpecah belah, dan ternyata rakyat dari semua negeri berada dalam ketakutan, kalau-kalau di luar kesalahan mereka, serigala-serigala peperangan akan lepas lagi dari rantainya," kata Bung Karno dalam pembukaan Konferensi Asia-Afrika, Senin, 18 April 1955. Bung Karno berpidato di hadapan para perwakilan dari 23 negara Asia dan enam negara Afrika, termasuk Sudan dan Gold Coast (sekarang Ghana) yang kala itu belum merdeka penuh dari negara penjajahnya. Hadir pula dalam konferensi itu, perwakilan dari Aljazair, Tunisia, dan Maroko sebagai peserta peninjau. Kebanyakan negara peserta KAA merdeka setelah Perang Dunia II berakhir. Mereka bersatu mengempaskan penjajahan. Negara-negara yang tak mengikuti Konferensi I pada 1955 pun ikut terguyur gerakan antikolonialisme yang ditiupkan dari Bandung. Nigeria, antara lain, didukung peserta konferensi di forum internasional, sehingga mencapai kemerdekaan pada 1 Oktober 1960 dari penjajahan Prancis. Konferensi juga membela Aljazair, Tunisia, serta Maroko, yang dalam salah satu butir keputusan pentingnya menyerukan kemerdekaan ketiganya dari penjajahan Prancis. Bung Karno secara konsisten mendesak PBB turun tangan menyelesaikan konflik Aljazair yang disebabkan oleh kolonialisme Prancis. "Sudah jelas sekali bahwa rakyat Aljazair menghendaki kemerdekaan. Hal itu tidak dapat dibantah lagi,” tuturnya dalam Sidang Umum PBB XV pada 30 September 1960. Dia mengusulkan PBB menggelar jajak pendapat untuk mengetahui keinginan merdeka rakyat Aljazair. Tahun itu pula, Prancis dan Inggris mulai melepaskan koloni mereka. Di Aljazair, pemimpin pergerakan menggemakan Dasasila Bandung, yang berisi hak tiap negara untuk berdaulat. ”Hari kemerdekaan Aljazair ada dua. Pada 1 November, hari nasional kami, dan KAA 1955,” kata Menteri Luar Negeri Aljazair (1991-1993) Lakhdar Brahimi kepada Tempo, April 2005. Enam puluh tahun berlalu. Mulai 19 hingga 26 April 2015, Indonesia kembali jadi tuan rumah, kali ini untuk nostalgia, peringatan Konferensi Asia-Afrika. Dari 109 negara yang diundang, 57 memastikan datang. Ada empat acara utama dalam perhelatan itu, antara lain Konferensi Tingkat Tinggi Asia-Afrika pada 22-23 April 2015. Puncak peringatan akan diadakan di Bandung pada 24 April 2015. TRIBUNNEWS.COM, JAKARTA – Ketua Umum Aliansi Nasionalis Indonesia (Anindo), Edwin Henawan Soekowati, mensinyalir Panitia Pusat Peringatan 60 tahun Konferensi Asia-Afrika (KAA) cenderung mengaburkan sejarah dari semangat Dasasila Bandung. “Hal ini dapat dilihat karena ada duahal yang terjadi, yaitu panitia secara terorganisir, terstruktur dan massif memasang foto, poster dan baliho Nelson Mandela. Padahal Nelson Mandela bukan peserta KAA tahun 1955 di Bandung,” kata Edwin kepada wartawan di Jakarta, Senin (20/4/2015). Kemudian, lanjut anggota mantan anggota DPR/MPR RI dari Fraksi Partai Demokrasi Indonesia (F-PDI) periode 1987 – 1992 ini, tema yang diangkat dalam peringatan 60 Tahun KAA adalah, “Selatan-Selatan”. “Padahal sebagaimana kita ketahui spirit Dasasila Bandung adalah penggalangan dan solidaritas negara-negara Asia-Afrika dalam upaya melawan neo-kolonialisme-neo imperialisme. Bukan semangat kompromistis untuk menarik minat negara donor,” tandas pria yang pernah menjadi anggota Komisi Pemilihan Umum (KPU) tahun 1999 ini. Dengan demikian, tandas Edwin, dapat dipastikan peringatan dan penyelenggaraan KTT Asia-Afrika kali ini tidak lagi berlandaskan sejarah, visi-misi Dasasila Bandung. Melainkan memilih caranyanya sendiri, yakni SemangatBaru Asia-Afrika dengan mengusung tema “Selatan-Selatan” yang merupakan isupolitik dari kelompok tertentu sebagaimana dilontarkan Yulius Nyerere dari Tanzania beberapa waktu lampau. Isu ini jelas bertentangan dengan semangat Trisakti dan Nawacita yang dicanangkan Pemerintah Jokowi-JK yang berlandaskan kepada Trisakti Bung Karno. Jakarta, CNN Indonesia -- Kepolisian Daerah Polda Metro Jaya menginstruksikan personel mereka untuk berjaga di sejumlah gedung tinggi dan jembatan penyebrangan orang (JPO) yang berada di kawasan penyelenggaraan Konferensi Asia Afrika.
