The stars have now aligned." The song is an anthem for the free spirited, unrestricted by the opinions of others and the perception of inadequacy. http://bookinghunter.com Barbados is the easternmost island in the Lesser Antilles. It is situated in the Atlantic Ocean, east of the other West Indies Islands. The most important places to visit in Barbados are: Harrison's Cave (even on the hottest day in Barbados it's cool down below in this popular show cave, which is also a nice rainy-day option), Hunte's Garden (horticulturist Anthony Hunte has transformed a sink-hole in the middle of a rainforest into a lush and beautiful series of gardens that are open for tours that may include an encounter with Hunte himself), George Washington's House (George Washington really did sleep here -- he visited Barbados in his youth along with his brother, Lawrence, during his first foray outside what would later become (thanks to his leadership) the United States) and many more. This video offers a lot of tips to help you plan the perfect vacation. If you want to save time and money, the most important Barbados travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. You can do this for free on http://bookinghunter.com, a site that searches through hundreds of other travel websites in real time for the best travel deals available.
Situated largely on the Caribbean Plate, the region comprises more than 7,000 islands, islets, reefs, and cays. Also called the West Indies, since Christopher Columbus landed here in 1492 believing he was in the Indies (in Asia), the region consists of the Antilles, divided into the larger Greater Antilles which bound the sea on the north and the Lesser Antilles on the south and east (including the Leeward Antilles), and the Bahamas. Geopolitically, the West Indies are usually reckoned as a sub region of North America and are organized into 27 territories including sovereign states, overseas departments, and dependencies. At one time, there was a short-lived country called the Federation of the West Indies composed of ten English-speaking Caribbean territories, all of which were then UK dependencies. The Caribbean islands are an island chain 4,020 kilometres (2,500 mi) long and no more than 257 kilometres (160 mi) wide at any given point. They enclose the Caribbean Sea. The region takes its name from that of the Carib, an ethnic group present in the Lesser Antilles and parts of adjacent South America at the time of European contact. In the English-speaking Caribbean, someone from the Caribbean is usually referred to as a "West Indian," although the phrase "Caribbean person" is sometimes used. bbtv broadbandtv powerdocs west indies caribbean antilles world nature island vacation travel tour tourism history ancient discovery destination religion diverse landmark social culture civilization building structure background adventure

Kill 4 enemies in a row using multi-pistols. [Bronze / 20G] First off, craft all pistol holsters. You can buy the required crafting items from any general store if needed. So you don't have to hunt down the animals on your own. Also buy and equip the "cannon-barrel pistol" for one-shot kills. All you need now is a group of at least 4 enemies. You can do this pretty much everywhere. Just walk up to them with the pistols selected in your weapon wheel and press triangle (PS3) / Y (X360) without aiming manually. Each shot should kill an enemy and this trophy / achievement is yours. Cartagena, Colombia Travel - Cartagena, Colombia Tours HD Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube Cartagena or Cartagena de Indias (Spanish pronunciation: [kartaˈxena ðe ˈindjas], "Cartagena of the Indies"), is a city on the northern coast of Colombia in the Caribbean Coast Region and capital of the Bolívar Department. The port city had a population of 892,545 as of the 2005 census. It is the fifth-largest city in Colombia and the second largest in the region, after Barranquilla. The Cartagena urban area is also the fifth-largest urban area in the country. Economic activities include maritime and petrochemicals industry, as well as tourism. The city was founded on June 1, 1533, and named after Cartagena, Spain. However, settlement in this region around Cartagena Bay by various indigenous people dates back to 4000 BC. During the colonial period Cartagena served a key role in administration and expansion of the Spanish empire. It was a center of political and economic activity due to the presence of royalty and wealthy viceroys. Cartagena is the city most associated with pirates in the Caribbean, and the world. In 1984 Cartagena's colonial walled city and fortress were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. History Cartagena ============= Pre-Columbian era: 4000 BC -- 1500 AD The Puerto Hormiga Culture, found in the Caribbean coast region, particularly in the area from the Sinú River Delta to the Cartagena Bay, appears to be the first documented human community in what is now Colombia. Archaeologists estimate that around 4000 BC, the formative culture was located near the boundary between the present-day departments of Bolívar and Sucre. In this area, archaeologists have found the most ancient ceramic objects of the Americas, dating from around 4000 BC. The primary reason for the proliferation of primitive societies in this area is thought to have been the relative mildness of climate and the abundance of wildlife, which allowed the hunting inhabitants a comfortable life.[2][3][4] Archaeological investigations date the decline of the Puerto Hormiga culture and its related settlements to around 3000 BC. The rise of a much more developed culture, the Monsú, who lived at the end of the Dique Canal near today's Cartagena neighborhoods Pasacaballos and Ciénaga Honda at the northernmost part of Barú Island, has been hypothesized. The Monsú culture appears to have inherited the Puerto Hormiga culture's use of the art of pottery and also to have developed a mixed economy of agriculture and basic manufacture. The Monsú people's diet was based mostly on shellfish and fresh and salt-water fish.[5] The development of the Sinú society in what is today the departments of Córdoba and Sucre, eclipsed these first developments around the Cartagena Bay area. Until the Spanish colonization, many cultures derived from the Karib, Malibu and Arawak language families lived along the Colombian Caribbean coast. In the late pre-Columbian era, the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta was home to the Tayrona people, whose language was closely related to the Chibcha language family.[6][7] Around 1500 the area was inhabited by different tribes of the Karib language family, more precisely the Mocanae sub-family, including: In the downtown island: Kalamarí Tribe In the Tierrabomba island: Carex Tribe In the Barú island, then peninsula: Bahaire Tribe In the eastern coast of the exterior bay: Cospique Tribe In the suburban area of Turbaco: Yurbaco Tribe Some subsidiary tribes of the Kalamari lived in today's neighborhood of Pie de la Popa, and other subsidiaries from the Cospique lived in the Membrillal and Pasacaballos areas. Among these, according to the earliest documents available, the Kalamari had preeminence. These tribes, though physically and administratively separated, shared a common architecture, such as hut structures consisting of circular rooms with tall roofs, which were surrounded by defensive wooden palisades. ========================== History Cartagena, Cartagena Travel, Cartagena Travel Guide, Cartagena Tours, Cartagena Vacation, Cartagena Tourism, visit Cartagena, History Colombia, Colombia Travel, Colombiaa Travel Guide, Colombia Tours, Colombia Vacation, Colombia Tourism, visit Colombia, Castle of San Felipe de Barajas, Walls and cannons of the old city

Antigua, also known as Wadadli, is an island in the West Indies, in the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean region, the main island of the country of Antigua and Barbuda. All the signs pointed towards Antigua. The island had warm, steady winds, a complex coastline of safe harbors, and a protective, nearly unbroken wall of coral reef. It would make a perfect place to hide a fleet. And so in 1784 the legendary Admiral Horatio Nelson sailed to Antigua and established Great Britain's most important Caribbean base. Little did he know that over 200 years later the same unique characteristics that attracted the Royal Navy would transform Antigua and Barbuda into one of the Caribbean's premier tourist destinations. TOP REASONS TO GO TO ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA: Beaches Galore: So many paradisiacal beaches of every size provide a tremendous selection for an island its size. Nelson's Dockyard: One of the Caribbean's best examples of historic preservation. Sailing Away: With several natural anchorages and tiny islets to explore, Antigua is a major sailing center. Activities Galore: Land and water sports, sights to see, and nightlife. Shopping Options: A nice selection of shopping options, from duty-free goods to local artists and craftspeople (especially distinctive ceramics). Cannibalism (from Caníbales, the Spanish name for the Caribs,[1] a West Indies tribe that formerly practiced cannibalism)[2] is the act or practice of humans eating the flesh or internal organs of other human beings. It is also called anthropophagy. A person who practices cannibalism is called a cannibal. The expression "cannibalism" has been extended into zoology to mean one individual of a species consuming all or part of another individual of the same species as food, including sexual cannibalism. The Island Carib people of the Lesser Antilles, from whom the word cannibalism derives, acquired a long-standing reputation as cannibals following the recording of their legends in the 17th century.[3] Some controversy exists over the accuracy of these legends and the prevalence of actual cannibalism in the culture. Cannibalism was widespread in the past among humans in many parts of the world, continuing into the 19th century in some isolated South Pacific cultures, and to the present day in parts of tropical Africa. Cannibalism was practiced in New Guinea and in parts of the Soloman islands, and flesh markets existed in some parts of Melenesia.[4] Fiji was once known as the 'Cannibal Isles'.[5] Cannibalism has been well documented around the world, from Fiji to the Amazon Basin to the Congo to Māori New Zealand.[6] Neanderthals are believed to have practiced cannibalism,[7][8] and Neanderthals may have been eaten by anatomically modern humans

HMS Hood, a 42,100-ton battlecruiser built at Clydebank, Scotland, was completed in March 1920. For more than two decades, she was the World's largest warship and, with her long, low hull and finely balanced silhouette, was to many the embodiment of "big-gun" era seapower. During her travels in European waters and far away, Hood actively represented Great Britain throughout her career. Her first cruise, in 1920, was to Scandanavia. The next year she went down to Gibraltar and Spain and in 1922 visited Brazil and the West Indies. After a brief call on Denmark and Norway in 1923, Hood was flagship on a eleven-month cruise around the World, accompanied by the smaller battlecruiser Repulse and a number of light cruisers. In 1925, she called on Lisbon to help commemorate Portugal's contributions to navigation and exploration. For ten years after 1925, Hood was assigned to the Royal Navy's Home and Atlantic Fleets, operating primarily around Europe, with a visit to the West Indies in 1932. She served with the Mediterranean Fleet in 1936-39, protecting British interests during the Spanish Civil War. Back with the Home Fleet after mid-1939, Hood operated in the North Atlantic and North Sea through the first part of World War II and received minor damage in a German air attack on 26 September 1939, an event that demonstrated the relative ineffectiveness of contemporary anti-aircraft gunfire. In June and July 1940, the battlecruiser was in the Mediterranean area. She was flagship during the 3 July Mers-el-Kebir battle, the most dramatic and destructive of several incidents in which the British Navy seized, interned, destroyed or attempted to destroy the warships of their recent ally, France. These acts were undertaken on Government orders to allay fears that the French Navy might fall into German hands. Hood spent the remainder of her service operating from Scapa Flow, covering the North Sea and Atlantic from the threat of German surface raiders. She was now elderly, overloaded, and burdened with an inadequate armoring arrangement. However, her great operational value had acted through the 1930s to prevent the Royal Navy from taking her out of service for a badly-needed modernization, and now it was too late. In May 1941, in company with the new battleship Prince of Wales, she was sent out to search for the German battleship Bismarck, which had left Norway for the Atlantic. On the morning of 24 May, the two British capital ships found the enemy to the west of Iceland. In the resulting Battle of the Denmark Strait, one or more of Bismarck's fifteen-inch shells got into Hood's after magazines. They erupted in a massive explosion. The great ship sank in moments with all but three of her large crew, an event that shocked the Royal Navy, the British nation and the entire World. HMS Hood's remains were located and photographed by a British deep sea expedition in July 2001. This page features selected views of the British battlecruiser Hood.

True Caribbean Pirates is a documentary which aired on The History Channel in 2006. The documentary tells about pirates of the Caribbean such as Blackbeard, Henry Morgan, Anne Bonny and Black Bart Roberts. Larger than life, more dangerous than legend - pirates and buccaneers set sail for plunder. True Caribbean Pirates recreates the rise of piracy in the Caribbean and its climactic, inevitable downfall. In the days of pirates and treasures, privateering was used to fight battles and disrupt the Spanish without having to pay for real navy within the Caribbean. Privateers were known to disrupt commerce and take part in the disruption of the enemies warships to protect trade against raiders. Sir Henry Morgan- played by Lance J.Holt was one of the most famous privateers to cross the Caribbean land was known for his ruthless acts against Spanish colonies and was successful through his ways to bring down them down through his brutal acts. The privateer turned pirate was most notorious for his two most famous attacks on Porto Bello and Panama. Porto Bello was targeted by Morgan due to it being the third most relevant Spanish city in regards to its saturation of warehouses that stored the riches discovered by Spanish colonies. Morgan and his men then went to capture Panama where they were much more capable of destruction compared to the opposing Spanish attackers. Sir Henry Morgan died unlike many other pirates- dying from what may have been tuberculosis and was buried Palisades cemetery. Blackbeard, who is played by Patrick Lander- earned his stripes by attacking Spanish ships during the Spanish Succession and to withhold the stolen goods which transformed him into an experienced sea robber, allowing him to join a group of Caribbean Pirates. Many stories have been retold time and time again about Blackbeard’s capturing ships with hostages and bribing them with their lives in turn for favors to benefit his conquests. The fearful pirate was finally taken down by an opposing ship during a vigorous battle and was then decapitated as a reward for the opposing pirates. True Caribbean Pirates captures the events and tales of piracy that were said to take place in the Caribbean during the time when Christopher Columbus made his landing in the West Indies during 1492. Within this time, the land of the Caribbean had attracted the attention of many but was dominated by Spain; as they mined plenty of riches and gold out of the region. This drew attention to the land and disruptions arose- creating chaos in the new world. Regions such as Holland, England and France all began to send privateers into the land so they could to- establish a presence. Calico Jack- a pirate played by David Joseph Boyd was a pirate who conducted his operations in the Bahamas and Cuba was not as successful in his missions as the former two pirates mentioned and was mostly known for his relations with the two female pirates Anne Bonny and Mary Read, who served under his command. This pirate’s most successful prize- Kingston did not remain long in his power and therefore had left the pirate with little to be proud of. Jack’s legacy would not have been much had it not been for Bonny and Read. He was brought to his death after him and his crew were captured in Jamaica, tried and hung on November 28, 1720.

In 1999 the Legislature of the U.S. Virgin Islands declared November 23 as Freedom Fighters Day, marking Sunday as the 15th anniversary of the establishment of this commemorative day. Freedom Fighters Day celebrates the 1733 St. John slave revolt, one of the earliest and longest lasting slave revolts in the Americas. A revolt that predated the Haitian Revolution by over 50 years. By 1733, the year of the rebellion, slaves constituted a vast majority of the population of the island of St. John, then ruled by the Danish West India and Guinea Company, with slaves greatly outnumbering the whites. Conditions for slaves were, unsurprisingly, unbearable and in an effort to dissuade slaves from escaping, a serves of very punitive slaves codes were established, with punishments ranging from flogging to amputations and hangings. The situation of slaves on the island was exacerbated by a series of natural disasters that led to the starvation deaths of many. A group of enslaved people who had previously held a privileged position back on the African continent and were members of the aristocracy, were brought to St. John. It was this group who conspired to organize the revolt, planning their action months in advance. And on the morning of November 23, they initiated their plan. Approximately a dozen slaves entered the St. John fortification at Coral Bay in order to deliver wood. Inside the wood they had hidden sugar cane knives that they used to subdue and kill the soldiers stationed at the fort. The rebels then fired that canon as a signal to other slaves on the island to commence the wider revolt. Eventually a force of approximately 100 formed and moved across the island, liberating plantations and killing the white overseers. The rebels eventually took control of the entire island, save for one plantation. Many whites fled to neighboring St. Thomas. The plantation owners enlisted the help of the English but they were unsuccessful at defeating the rebellion, though they did succeed in recapturing the fort and scattering the rebels. Eventually the plantation owners were able to secure a 200-person strong military force from the French from the island of Martinique. Exhausted and low on supplies and ammunition, the rebels were defeated by the French forces who captured, tortured and killed most. The plantation system was re-established soon after. Although ultimately defeated the island of St. John was effectively liberated for six months, setting an important example. It would take another 114 years for slavery to be abolished in the Danish West Indies. The Times of India 2015-03-20The West Indies includes the islands bordering the Caribbean Sea, plus the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands, which are surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. Historically, the term "West India" was sometimes used to mean all these islands as well.
It is often divided up by association with European countries:
It may further refer to
The Indies is a term that has been used to describe the lands of South and Southeast Asia, occupying all of the present India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and also Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Brunei, Singapore, the Philippines, East Timor, Malaysia and most of Indonesia. In a more restricted sense, the Indies can be used to refer to the islands of Southeastern Asia, especially the Malay Archipelago. The name "Indies" is derived from the river Indus and is used to connote parts of Asia that come under Indian cultural influence (except Vietnam which comes under the Sinosphere).
Dutch-held colonies in the area were known as the Dutch East Indies before Indonesian independence, while Spanish-held colonies were known as the Spanish East Indies before the Philippines' independence. The East Indies may also include Indochina, the Philippine Islands, Brunei, Singapore and East Timor. It does not, however, include western New Guinea (West Papua), which is part of Melanesia.
