The European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) is responsible for controlling ESAsatellites and space probes. The centre is located in Darmstadt, Germany. It is Mission Control for most of the space projects of the ESA. Since its creation in 1967, the centre has operated 60 European space missions. ESOC also houses the Ground Facilities Control Centre (GFCC) that is responsible for remote operation of the ESTRACK network of Ground Stations and antennas.
Recently controlled through LEOP, and then handed over to EUMETSAT was MetOp-A.
This centre is also responsible for the development of the technology infrastructure it requires to support existing and planned missions, including Space Control and Operations Software (SCOS 2000), an adaptable software infrastructure for monitoring and controlling the various spacecraft.
As Europe's centre of excellence for mission operations, the European Space Operations Centre is home to the teams that control spacecraft in orbit, manage o...

Eurostar expand their services into Europe with the unveiling of new state-of-the-art e320 trains. In the last two decades Eurostar has revolutionised cross-channel travel, providing a swift, seamless link between the UK and mainland Europe. With passengers increasingly choosing high speed rail over plane for short haul travel and demand at an all-time high, the business is now set for further expansion of its services into Europe.
For the 20th anniversary Eurostar unveiled in public for the first time its new state-of-the-art e320 train scheduled to enter commercial service at the end of 2015. At the same time the company announced its decision to augment its fleet with a further 7 new e320 trains. With the original order of 10 e320s now in the final stage of completion, this increases the number of new trains to 17 in total.
The introduction of the e320 represents a major advance for international high speed rail. Built to a bespoke specification these trains are ‘inter-operable’ with the ability to operate across diverse European signalling systems, opening up the potential for a whole range of new direct services between the UK and European city centre destinations.
Carrying 900 passengers, the e320 boosts capacity per train by 20% and is capable of reaching a speed of 320 kph (200 mph). With the external livery and interiors designed by Pininfarina, the legendary Italian design house, world-renowned for its iconic car designs, the new Eurostar train boasts many innovative features aimed at maximising energy efficiency and delivering an enhanced experience for travellers. Recognising the importance of connectivity for passengers, going forward, the Eurostar fleet will be equipped with free wifi throughout the train, allowing customers to email, chat and tweet during their journey. The new wifi portal will provide a range of information and entertainment including live news feeds and weather reports as well as a collection of destination guides. With the introduction of the e320, customers will enjoy more space per seat with each seat equipped with power points and a USB socket. Business passengers will experience the ultimate in on-board comfort with a carefully designed environment aimed at maximising productivity whilst offering a relaxing space. For leisure customers the e320 will represent a considerable upgrade with a newly designed bar buffet, ergonomically designed reclining seats and increased luggage areas. Beyond its core routes of Paris, Brussels and Lille, Eurostar serves a range of destinations including the French Alps, Swiss Alps and Geneva. May 2015 will see the start of a new year-round direct service to Provence, stopping at Lyon, Avignon and Marseille, followed at the end of 2016 by the launch of a direct route to Amsterdam with stops in Antwerp, Rotterdam and Schiphol along the way.

The Herschel Space Observatory was a space observatory built and operated by the European Space Agency (ESA). It was active from 2009 to 2013, and was the largest infrared telescope ever launched, carrying a single 3.5-metre (11.5 ft) mirror and instruments sensitive to the far infrared and submillimetre wavebands (55–672 µm). Herschel was the fourth cornerstone mission in the ESA science programme, along with Rosetta, Planck, and Gaia. NASA is a partner in the Herschel mission, with US participants contributing to the mission; providing mission-enabling instrument technology and sponsoring the NASA Herschel Science Center (NHSC) at the Infrared Processing and Analysis Center and the Herschel Data Search at the Infrared Science Archive.

Pete Santilli Episode #839 - European Space Agency Lands Rosetta On Comet!
Full Episode & Article: http://wp.me/p30jla-87i
BREAKING/REUTERS: The European Space Agency (ESA) landed a probe on a comet on Wednesday, a first in space exploration and the climax of a decade-long mission to get samples from what are the remnants of the birth of Earth's solar system.
The box-shaped 100-kg (220-pound) lander, named Philae, touched down on schedule at about 1100 ET after a seven-hour descent from spacecraft Rosetta around half a billion kilometers (300 million miles) from Earth.
Scientists hope that samples from the surface of 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko will help show how planets and life are created as the rock and ice that

Scientists hope that samples from the surface of 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko will help show how planets and life are created as the rock and ice that make up the comet preserve organic molecules like a time-capsule.
Comets come from the formation of Earth's 4.6-billion-year-old solar system. Scientists believe they may have brought much of the water in Earth's oceans.
"We are ready to make science fiction a science fact," ESA director of human spaceflight and operations, Thomas Reiter, said at the European Space Operations Center in Germany before the landing.
Rosetta reached the comet, a roughly 3-by-5 km rock discovered in 1969, in August after a journey of 6.4 billion km that took 10 years, five months and four days - a mission that cost close to 1.4 billion euros ($1.8 billion).

From NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, a mission briefing was held about two upcoming space walks on Oct. 7 and Oct. 15 to replace a failed power regulator and relocate a failed cooling pump.
The Briefing participants were:
-- Kenny Todd, space station integration operations manager
-- Scott Stover, NASA space station flight director
-- Jaclyn Kagey, U.S. spacewalk 27 officer
-- Kieth Johnson, U.S. spacewalk 28 officer
NASA Flight Engineer Reid Wiseman and Flight Engineer Alexander Gerst of the European Space Agency will exit the station's Quest airlock for the Oct. 7 spacewalk at about 8:10 a.m., both wearing U.S. spacesuits. NASA TV coverage of the planned six-and-a-half-hour spacewalk will begin at 7 a.m. Wiseman will be extravehicular crew member one (EV1) and will wear a suit bearing red stripes. Gerst will be EV2 and wear a suit with no stripes. The astronauts will move a failed cooling pump from temporary to long-term storage on the station's truss. They also will install a new relay system that will provide backup power options to the mobile transporter, which moves the large robotic arm around the out outside of the space station.
Wiseman will venture outside Quest again Oct. 15, with NASA Flight Engineer Barry Wilmore, a new arrival to the space station, for another six-and-a-half-hour spacewalk. The two-man team will replace a sequential shunt unit electronics box, a voltage regulator, on the starboard truss that failed in mid-May. Although the station has since operated normally on seven of its eight power channels, the voltage regulator replacement is considered a high priority. Wiseman, again designated EV1, and Wilmore, who will serve as EV 2, also will relocate external cameras and equipment to begin configuring the station for international docking adapters for future commercial crew vehicles. Coverage of this second spacewalk begins at 7 a.m. with the spacewalk expected to begin around 8:10 a.m. The spacewalks will be the 182nd and the 183rd in support of station assembly and maintenance. All three astronauts will be conducting the first spacewalks of their careers.

History
World War II
In December 1941, with U.S. involvement in war soon expected on both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, Rear Admiral Ben Moreell, Chief of the Navy's Bureau of Yards and Docks, recommended establishing Naval Construction Battalions at a newly constructed base at Davisville, Rhode Island (part of North Kingstown). With the attack on Pearl Harbor and the United States' entry into the war, he was given the go-ahead. The Davisville Advanced Base Depot became operational in June 1942. Camp Thomas, a personnel-receiving station on the base, was established in October of that year. It eventually contained 500 Quonset huts for personnel. On August 11, 1942, the Naval Construction Training Center, known as Camp Endicott, was commissioned at Davisville. The Camp trained over 100,000 Seabees during the Second World War.
In California in May 1942, a base for supporting the Naval Construction Force was established at Port Hueneme in Ventura County. This base became responsible for shipping massive amounts of equipment and material to the efforts in the Pacific.
The earliest Seabees were recruited from the civilian construction trades and were placed under the leadership of the Navy's Civil Engineer Corps. Because of the emphasis on experience and skill rather than physical standards, the average age of Seabees during WWII was 37.
More than 325,000 men served with the Seabees in World War II, fighting and building on six continents and more than 300 islands. In the Pacific, where most of the construction work was needed, the Seabees landed soon after the Marines and built major airstrips, bridges, roads, gasoline storage tanks, and Quonset huts for warehouses, hospitals, and housing. They often operated under fire and frequently were forced to take part in the fighting to defend themselves and their construction projects. In the Pacific Theater they built 111 major airstrips and 441 piers, tanks for the storage of 100 m gallons of fuel, housing for 1.5 million men and hospitals for 70,000 patients.
The Seabees were officially organized in the Naval Reserve on December 31, 1947.
With the general demobilization following the war, the Naval Construction Battalions (NCBs) were reduced to 3,300 men on active duty by 1950. Between 1949 and 1953, Naval Construction Battalions were organized into two types of units: Amphibious Construction Battalions (ACBs) and Mobile Construction Battalions (MCBs), which were later designated Naval Mobile Construction Battalions (NMCBs) in the early- to mid-1960s to eliminate confusion with Marine Corps Base (MCB) in Vietnam...

There was unbridled joy at the European Space Agency's Operations Centre in Darmstadt, Germany. News which had just travelled 800 million kilometres through space. The comet probe Rosetta was awake and ready to get back to work.
Rosetta had powered up again after it was deliberately shut down three years ago in readiness for this mission.
So there were no Monday morning blues as it began an unprecedented journey to orbit and land on the comet Churyumov - Gerasimenko.

Rosetta wrap-up
Rosetta made history by delivering the Philae lander to the surface of a comet. This film covers the exciting events at the Rosetta mission control room at the European Space Operations Centre at Darmstadt, in Germany, from the moment of touchdown on 12 November to Philae’s hibernation.
It shows the celebrations and explains the race against time to ensure that the lander’s science experiments were completed before its batteries died. It also covers the extraordinary three touchdowns, as imaged by the OSIRIS camera on the Rosetta orbiter, the discovery of organics and Philae’s hibernation.

Eurostar Launches New Fleet - Unravel Travel TV

ISS Space Walk Briefing for Expedition Crew 41 from NASA's Johnson Space Center, Texas
