Child pornography refers to images or films (also known as child abuse images) and, in some cases, writings depicting sexually explicit activities involving a child. Abuse of the child occurs during the sexual acts which are recorded in the production of child pornography, and several professors of psychology state that memories of the abuse are maintained as long as visual records exist, are accessed, and are "exploited perversely."
Ninety-four of 187 Interpol member states had laws specifically addressing child pornography as of 2008, though this does not include nations that ban all pornography. Of those 94 countries, 58 criminalized possession of child pornography regardless of intent to distribute. Both distribution and possession are now criminal offenses in almost all Western countries. A wide movement is working to globalize the criminalization of child pornography, including major international organisations such as the United Nations and the European Commission.
Legal definitions of child pornography generally include sexual images involving prepubescents and pubescent or post-pubescent minors and computer-generated images that appear to involve them. Most possessors of child pornography who are arrested are found to possess images of prepubescent children; possessors of pornographic images of post-pubescent minors are less likely to be prosecuted, even though those images also fall within the statutes.

Jared S. Fogle (born December 1, 1977), also known as The Subway Guy, is a spokesman employed by Subway Restaurants in its advertising campaigns. He is known for his significant weight loss, now known as the "Subway diet", attributed to eating Subway sandwiches, which led to his role promoting the company.
Fogle first came to media attention in April 1999, after Ryan Coleman, a former dormmate of Fogle, ran into him and hardly recognized him because of the lost weight, and wrote an article for Indiana Daily Student about Fogle's weight loss.Men's Health magazine confirmed the story and included the "Subway sandwich diet" in an article, "Stupid Diets. . . that Work!" According to the article, Fogle had become obese by eating junk food and not exercising. Switching to eating at Subway, he changed his eating habits there to include healthier choices and smaller portions free of fattening condiments such as mayonnaise, which was followed by his significant weight loss. A Chicago-area Subway franchisee took the idea to Subway's Chicago advertising agency. The agency confirmed the story by visiting a Subway franchise near the Indiana University campus, where the staff identified him from his description.

Subway Spokesman Jared Fogle's Home Raided by FBI in Child Pornography Investigation

Federal authorities reportedly raided the Zionsville, Indiana home of revered Subway spokesman Jared Fogle on Tuesday as part of an ongoing child pornography investigation. The warrants were served around 6:30 a.m., according to Fox59. Fogle has been detained — though not arrested — outside the residence. Upon initiation of the raid, Fogle's wife and children exited the property. Authorities have removed electronic devices from Fogle's home and are reportedly analyzing them in a mobile forensics vehicle nearby.
In April, former Jared Foundation executive director Russell Taylor was arrested on three counts of possession of child pornography, three counts of child exploitation, and three counts of voyeurism. TMZ reports that Taylor was in possession of roughly 500 child pornography videos at the time of his arrest. According to Fogle, the Foundation — a non-profit aimed at combating childhood obesity — promptly ceased their relationship with Taylor.
In the wake of Tuesday's news, a Best Week Ever feature on Fogle from 2007 has been unearthed — detailing his days as the makeshift CEO of a black market porn rental service. According to Gawker, Fogle maintained the affordable service (supposedly just a dollar a day per video) from the comforts of his dorm room. In fact, the original story claims that Fogle's obsession with Subway sandwiches was birthed from "extreme laziness" related to his burgeoning dorm room rental service. Of course, the leap from consensual pornography depicting actual adults to today's potentially troubling news can't necessarily be made — though we should expect further unearthing of this variety in the days ahead.

The Indianapolis Star reports that electronics were removed from Fogle’s house in Zionsville, Indiana, and loaded into a mobile forensics van parked in his driveway.
Fogle was seen entering and exiting the van during the search, and later left with his attorney, according to the paper.
According to Fox’s Indianapolis affiliate, state and federal agents served warrants at Fogle’s home in connection with a child pornography investigation. An FBI spokeswoman confirmed the agency was conducting an investigation in the area, but would not specify its nature.
“We are shocked about the news and believe it is related to a prior investigation of a former Jared Foundation employee,” Subway said in a statement to CNBC. “We are very concerned and will be monitoring the situation closely. We don’t have any more details at this point.”
In April, Russell Taylor, the executive director of the Fogle’s Jared Foundation, was arrested on child pornography charges. Authorities said a search of Taylor’s home turned up more than 400 videos with images of child pornography.

Fogle quickly distanced himself and his foundation from Taylor.
“I was shocked to learn of the disturbing allegations against Mr. Taylor,” Fogle said in a statement. “Effective immediately, the Jared Foundation is severing all ties with Mr. Taylor.”
Taylor, 43, attempted suicide in jail a week after his arrest.
Fogle, 37, gained national fame as the restaurant chain’s pitchman after losing more than 240 pounds — weight loss he attributed to eating Subway sandwiches.
According to the New York Daily News, Fogle has an estimated net worth of $15 million.
He started the Jared Foundation in 2004 to eliminate childhood obesity “by raising awareness and developing programs that educate and inspire kids to live healthier, happier lives.”
“I am starting The Jared Foundation to help kids who are in the same situation I was in growing up,” Fogle told Food Processing magazine at the time. “I was an overweight kid who turned into an even heavier teenager who turned into an obese young adult, and this negatively affected every aspect of my life. Now I am in a position where I can have some influence with kids and, hopefully, can help them learn to make better choices.”

A former University of Detroit Jesuit High School priest involved in a child pornography case that dates back to the 90s was sentenced to 12 years in prison Tuesday.
The government calls the Rev. Richard Kurtz a "wolf in shepherd's clothing." His collection of child porn was discovered in 2011 when priests were packing his belongings in Oakland County and Chicago.
On Tuesday, the 70-year-old Kurtz returned to federal court, where a judge said he escaped punishment for far too long.

In 2001, he was dismissed from University of Detroit Jesuit High School when a 16-year-old boy accused him of sexual assault on a trip to Colorado. The family didn't pursue charges at the time, but Kurtz was convicted 10 years later and placed on probation.
After that incident, more people came forward to share their inappropriate experiences with Kurtz.
He also served as the priest for the school's hockey team, during which he secretly recorded players changing in the locker room.
In court Tuesday, Kurtz apologized to his victims and accepted responsibility for his actions.
"I would like to be part of the study that addresses the problem, instead of just punishing the offenders," Kurtz said in court.
While he is in prison, Kurtz will be part of a sex offender treatment program. Once he's released, at the age of 82, he'll have eight years of supervised release.
He was living in Missouri last year when he was arrested in the child porn case.

The father-in-law of Susan Powell, a Utah woman who went missing six years ago, has been found guilty of possessing child pornography.
Steven Powell was on trial since last week for possessing explicit images of two neighbor girls.
Jurors returned a unanimous verdict against the 65-year-old Monday afternoon.
Powell was ordered held without bail until his August 21 sentencing, The News Tribune reported.
He faces up to five years in prison.
Powell was convicted in 2012 on 14 counts of voyeurism for shooting video and still pictures of the girls, ages 8 and 10, from a window as they used a family bathroom.
A judge threw out the child porn charges before the voyeurism trial, but they were reinstated by an appeals court.
Powell is the father of Josh Powell, who killed his two sons and himself in February 2012 while under investigation for his wife's 2009 disappearance
In 2012, authorities searched a home he had previously shared with his father, Steven Powell, and allegedly found that the elder Powell had child pornography in his possession.
In May 2012 he was convicted of 14 counts of voyeurism for taking photos of two young neighbor girls in the bathroom and was sentenced to serve two-and-a-half years in June 2012.
He got out of Washington State prison in March after finishing up his sentence.
But last month, prosecutors refiled a charge of possession of child pornography against him after an appeals court determined that the charge was wrongly dismissed during his original trial.
In August, Powell's counselor 'terminated treatment' because Powell refused to cooperate with the psychosexual evaluation, according to the report.
His parole officer determined he was being 'manipulative,' and he was sentenced to three days in jail.
Powell again refused to answer questions about his sexual behavior during treatment in October, according to the report.
His parole officer recently asked the judge to sentence him to another 60 days behind bars, saying that he poses a 'continued risk to the community' for failing to undergo the treatment.
On Saturday, it will be the five-year anniversary of Susan Powell's disappearance - which means she will be declared legally dead under Utah law.
Josh, 36, is suspected to have killed his wife, although family members have voiced their belief that Steven was complicit in her presumed death.
Thousands of images of Susan Powell were seized from the home that Steve Powell was sharing with his son in 2011 by police serving a search warrant.
The images - some sexually suggestive - showed the missing Utah mother walking in public, doing the laundry or sitting in her car, apparently unaware that someone was taking her picture.
Steve Powell has never been charged with any crimes related to images of Susan Powell.

Richmond Hill man arrested for luring underage girls on social media

TORONTO – A Richmond Hill man has been arrested for allegedly luring underage girls through social media to obtain naked photographs.
Police say Brandon Walker, 24, has been in contact with his victims during the past year and turned himself in on July 7.
It is alleged the accused befriended a 13-year-old and 14-year-old on Facebook using the name Brandon G. Davidson and offered money to them in exchange for naked photographs.
Police say Walker threatened to expose his victims if they did not send naked pictures or video of themselves to him.
The accused has since been charged with two counts of luring a child under the age of 16 years, three counts of counsel to commit the offence of make child pornography, two counts of make child pornography, two counts of possession of child pornography, and two counts of extortion.
“With online predators, they find a way to find common interests, common likes and they develop that trust of that individual,” said Sex Crimes Det. Cst. Michele Bond during a press conference Monday.
“As we know with young persons, it’s so easy to gain that trust.”
Police believe there may be more victims and are asking anyone who has been in contact with the accused to come forward.

Pediatric doctor accused of child porn free on bond

PEARLAND, Texas -
A pediatric oncologist at MD Anderson Children's Cancer Hospital accused of possessing hundreds of images of child pornography posted bond and left jail on Wednesday evening.
Dennis Patrick Hughes posted a $50,000 bond and was released from the Galveston County Jail. Hughes is required to wear a GPS monitor at all times, will have to surrender his passport, is not allowed to access the internet and is not allowed to have any interaction with children, except his own children.

Pediatric doctor accused of child porn free on bond

PEARLAND, Texas -
A pediatric oncologist at MD Anderson Children's Cancer Hospital accused of possessing hundreds of images of child pornography posted bond and left jail on Wednesday evening.
Dennis Patrick Hughes posted a $50,000 bond and was released from the Galveston County Jail. Hughes is required to wear a GPS monitor at all times, will have to surrender his passport, is not allowed to access the internet and is not allowed to have any interaction with children, except his own children.

Subway's Jared Fogle suspected in child pornography case

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. -- A law enforcement source has confirmed to CBS News that Subway restaurant spokesman Jared Fogle is a suspect in a federal child pornography investigation.
FBI agents and Indiana State Police were at Fogle's house in Zionsville, Ind., and have removed electronics from the property.
FBI special agent Wendy Osborne said Tuesday that the FBI was conducting an investigation in the Zionsville area but wouldn't confirm it involved Fogle.
CBS affiliate WTTV and The Indianapolis Star report the house belongs to Fogle and that he was detained while electronics were removed from the home and analyzed inside a mobile forensics van. Fogle left his house just after noon Tuesday with his attorney, wearing a rain jacket with the hood up. He declined to comment. The Indianapolis Star had earlier photographed Fogle stepping out of a police evidence van parked outside his home.
Investigators from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service are also on the scene and assisting with the investigation, according to Dan Taylor, an inspector with the agency's Indianapolis office. He noted that the agency is called in when investigations involve items sent through the mail.
Fogle became Subway's pitchman in 2000, after losing more than 200 pounds while eating the restaurant's sandwiches and exercising.
Subway said in a statement that it was "very concerned" about the raid, which it believes "is related to a prior investigation" of a former employee of the Jared Foundation, an organization founded by Fogle to raise awareness about childhood obesity. Subway did not immediately say whether that employee was former foundation executive director Russell Taylor, who was arrested in May on child pornography charges.
A complaint filed in Taylor's case lists seven counts related to the production of child pornography, as well as another charge for possession of child pornography.
Taylor is accused of secretly videotaping four children, ranging in age between nine and 16, on at least seven occasions total. In each case, the child who was allegedly videotaped was naked, according to a document filed in federal court on May 4. Investigators also allegedly found more than 400 videos of child pornography on computers and storage media recovered from Taylor's home office in his Indianapolis residence.
The document also notes that Taylor allegedly texted a woman links to websites that feature bestiality. She contacted police after receiving the alleged texts.
The Indianapolis Star reports that Taylor, 43, attempted suicide on May 6 while in jail. A spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office told the paper Tuesday that Taylor's health is improving.
Taylor's attorney, Brad Banks, said Tuesday his client is being held "pre-indictment" by federal officials pending a grand jury possibly considering the allegations against him.

Subway Spokesman Jared Fogle's Home Raided by FBI in Child Pornography Investigation
Subway Spokesman Jared Fogle's Home Raided by FBI in Child Pornography Investigation
Federal authorities reportedly raided the Zionsville, Indiana home of revered Subway spokesman Jared Fogle on Tuesday as part of an ongoing child pornography investigation. The warrants were served around 6:30 a.m., according to Fox59. Fogle has been detained — though not arrested — outside the residence. Upon initiation of the raid, Fogle's wife and children exited the property. Authorities have removed electronic devices from Fogle's home and are reportedly analyzing them in a mobile forensics vehicle nearby. In April, former Jared Foundation executive director Russell Taylor was arrested on three counts of possession of child pornography, three counts of child exploitation, and three counts of voyeurism. TMZ reports that Taylor was in possession of roughly 500 child pornography videos at the time of his arrest. According to Fogle, the Foundation — a non-profit aimed at combating childhood obesity — promptly ceased their relationship with Taylor. In the wake of Tuesday's news, a Best Week Ever feature on Fogle from 2007 has been unearthed — detailing his days as the makeshift CEO of a black market porn rental service. According to Gawker, Fogle maintained the affordable service (supposedly just a dollar a day per video) from the comforts of his dorm room. In fact, the original story claims that Fogle's obsession with Subway sandwiches was birthed from "extreme laziness" related to his burgeoning dorm room rental service. Of course, the leap from consensual pornography depicting actual adults to today's potentially troubling news can't necessarily be made — though we should expect further unearthing of this variety in the days ahead. The family didn't pursue charges at the time, but Kurtz was convicted 10 years later and placed on probation. After that incident, more people came forward to share their inappropriate experiences with Kurtz. He also served as the priest for the school's hockey team, during which he secretly recorded players changing in the locker room. In court Tuesday, Kurtz apologized to his victims and accepted responsibility for his actions. "I would like to be part of the study that addresses the problem, instead of just punishing the offenders," Kurtz said in court. While he is in prison, Kurtz will be part of a sex offender treatment program. Once he's released, at the age of 82, he'll have eight years of supervised release. Steven Powell found GUILTY of child porn possession after recording young next door neighbors going to the bathroom The father-in-law of Susan Powell, a Utah woman who went missing six years ago, has been found guilty of possessing child pornography. Steven Powell was on trial since last week for possessing explicit images of two neighbor girls. Jurors returned a unanimous verdict against the 65-year-old Monday afternoon. Powell was ordered held without bail until his August 21 sentencing, The News Tribune reported. He faces up to five years in prison. Powell was convicted in 2012 on 14 counts of voyeurism for shooting video and still pictures of the girls, ages 8 and 10, from a window as they used a family bathroom. A judge threw out the child porn charges before the voyeurism trial, but they were reinstated by an appeals court. Powell is the father of Josh Powell, who killed his two sons and himself in February 2012 while under investigation for his wife's 2009 disappearance In 2012, authorities searched a home he had previously shared with his father, Steven Powell, and allegedly found that the elder Powell had child pornography in his possession. In May 2012 he was convicted of 14 counts of voyeurism for taking photos of two young neighbor girls in the bathroom and was sentenced to serve two-and-a-half years in June 2012. He got out of Washington State prison in March after finishing up his sentence. But last month, prosecutors refiled a charge of possession of child pornography against him after an appeals court determined that the charge was wrongly dismissed during his original trial. In August, Powell's counselor 'terminated treatment' because Powell refused to cooperate with the psychosexual evaluation, according to the report. His parole officer determined he was being 'manipulative,' and he was sentenced to three days in jail. Powell again refused to answer questions about his sexual behavior during treatment in October, according to the report. His parole officer recently asked the judge to sentence him to another 60 days behind bars, saying that he poses a 'continued risk to the community' for failing to undergo the treatment. On Saturday, it will be the five-year anniversary of Susan Powell's disappearance - which means she will be declared legally dead under Utah law. Josh, 36, is suspected to have killed his wife, although family members have voiced their belief that Steven was complicit in her presumed death. Thousands of images of Susan Powell were seized from the home that Steve Powell was sharing with his son in 2011 by police serving a search warrant. The images - some sexually suggestive - showed the missing Utah mother walking in public, doing the laundry or sitting in her car, apparently unaware that someone was taking her picture. TORONTO – A Richmond Hill man has been arrested for allegedly luring underage girls through social media to obtain naked photographs. Police say Brandon Walker, 24, has been in contact with his victims during the past year and turned himself in on July 7. It is alleged the accused befriended a 13-year-old and 14-year-old on Facebook using the name Brandon G. Davidson and offered money to them in exchange for naked photographs. Police say Walker threatened to expose his victims if they did not send naked pictures or video of themselves to him. The accused has since been charged with two counts of luring a child under the age of 16 years, three counts of counsel to commit the offence of make child pornography, two counts of make child pornography, two counts of possession of child pornography, and two counts of extortion. “With online predators, they find a way to find common interests, common likes and they develop that trust of that individual,” said Sex Crimes Det. Cst.
