The village of Beer is in south-east Devon, England, on Lyme Bay. It is situated on the 95-mile long Jurassic Coast, England's first natural World Heritage Site and its picturesque cliffs, including Beer Head, form part of the South West Coast Path. The name is not derived from the drink but from the old Anglo-Saxon word "bearu" ("grove"), referring to the original forestation that surrounded the town. It is a pretty coastal village, 25 miles from Exeter, that grew up around a smugglers' cove and caves which were once used[citation needed] to store contraband goods. These are now part of the attraction of the village. Many of the buildings are faced with flint, a hard glassy stone found in the local chalk rock.

BREAKING NEWS: President's plane leaves South Africa as court continues to hear case on whether he should be arrested on ICC warrant. Sudan’s President Omar Hassan al-Bashir has left Johannesburg, the state minister for information says. (Al Jazeera) Sudan's information minister has said that Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir has flown out of South Africa, defying a high court order which banned him from leaving the country until an application calling for his arrest had been heard. "Yes, he has left," Information Minister Ahmed Bilal Osman confirmed to Al Jazeera, saying that South Africa had always agreed not to arrest the president while he was in the country for the African Union summit. Osman said President Bashir's plane was due to land back in Khartoum at about 6:30pm local time (15:30 GMT). The South African state broadcaster, SABC, first reported at about 10:15 GMT on Monday that the plane had flown out of the Waterkloof air force base, on the outskirts of Pretoria. The lawyer appearing on behalf of the South African government, however, told the high court in Pretoria that President Bashir was not on the list of passengers in the Sudanese plane that left Waterkloof base. Earlier, Sudanese Information Minister Osman told Al Jazeera the president would return to Sudan on Monday. "He is coming back to our country in one or two hours," Osman said, adding that it did not matter if the court ordered Bashir's arrest, as it had no ability to enforce such an order. "The judiciary...does not have policemen. The president is there [in South Africa] and no one is going to arrest him." An interim order was made by the high court in Pretoria on Sunday, barring President Bashir from leaving the country pending an application from civil society organisations, calling for his arrest. The high court in Pretoria was to decide whether to send Bashir to the International Criminal Court. Al Jazeera's Fahmida Miller, reporting from Johannesburg, said that the Sudanese president's plane had been moved to a South African military base late on Sunday night. She said that the defence force was not a party to the court case, meaning President Bashir would be able to fly from the base unobstructed. If the plane has left as reported, the home affairs department could be held in contempt of court for failing to implement the conditions of the order, our correspondent reported. Bashir, who is accused of war crimes in repressing an armed uprising in the Sudanese region of Darfur, was appeared in Johannesburg on Sunday for the AU summit. The Hague-based ICC issued an arrest warrant in 2009, but Bashir denies the charges. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told reporters in Geneva on Monday that the authority of the ICC must be respected and its decision implemented. Before Sunday's court ruling was announced , the judge said the court would decide whether a South African government cabinet decision to host Bashir would trump the ICC arrest warrant. The Guardian has learned that the Central Intelligence Agency had explicit guidelines for “human experimentation” before, during and after its post-9/11 torture of terrorism detainees. The report raises new questions about the limits on internal oversight over the agency’s in-house and contracted medical research. Sections of a previously classified CIA document, made public by the Guardian on Monday, empower the agency’s director to “approve, modify, or disapprove all proposals pertaining to human subject research”. The leeway provides the director with significant influence over limitations the US government sets to preserve safe, humane and ethical procedures on people. The CIA director has never in the agency’s history been a medical doctor, http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/jun/15/cia-torture-human-experimentation-doctors http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by Wochit using http://wochit.com

Subscribe to VICE News here: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News In late June, Berlin’s central Kreuzberg district became the scene of a tense standoff between a group of refugees squatting in an abandoned school and the district authorities. The refugees had moved into the school after authorities destroyed refugee camps just a few months earlier. As more and more squatters moved in, the governing Green party faced pressure to resolve a situation where hygiene was deteriorating and crime was becoming an issue. On June 24, authorities attempted to evict refugees from the school. With the refugees refusing to leave, the school and surrounding neighborhood block was besieged for eight days by riot police, protesters and press. VICE News was on the scene from day one and documented the events that would ultimately mark the climax of Germany's refugee protest. We gained access inside the school to document the situation and were also on the scene as negotiations between authorities and refugees were taking place to resolve the standoff. It is characterized by periodic flash floods, which had turned this normally small stream into a surging river, causing significant flooding in 1960, 1963, 1972, and 1995. In 1972, it resulted in several fatalities and completely flooded the Tbilisi Zoo. Damage and casualties Following hours of heavy rainfall, a landslide dammed up the Vere river late on 13 June 2015. The resulting flood inflicted severe damage on the Tbilisi Zoo, a highway running through the Vere valley, and nearby houses, resulting in at least 12 deaths, including three zoo workers. One of them, a 56-year woman, had recently returned to work after having had an arm amputated two weeks earlier after a tiger mauled it. About 36 people were admitted for mild-to-moderate injuries; most of them were discharged from hospitals on the same day. As of late 14 June, 24 people were reported as missing. More than 40 families were left homeless and 22,000 people were left without electricity. The Georgian government reported a preliminary estimated flood damage cost of approximately GEL 40 million. Animals in streets The Tbilisi Zoo lost nearly half of its inhabitants. Most of them were killed by flooding. Several surviving inhabitants of the zoo—a hippopotamus, big cats, wolves, bears, and hyenas—escaped from destroyed pens and cages to the streets of Tbilisi and a police unit was employed to round them up. Some of them were killed or recaptured and brought back to the zoo.[7] The media ran footage showing the hippopotamus making its way to flooded Heroes' Square, one of Tbilisi's major roadway hubs, where it was subdued with a tranquilizer dart. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Tbilisi_flood Music : "Spacial Harvest" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

Media reports say a suspected US air strike in Yemen has killed the leader of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsular, (AQAP), Nasser al-Wuhayshi.

Yemeni security officials say he died in an attack near the port city of Aden.

If confirmed this would represent a major setback for al-Qaeda and one of its most active branches, which has become strong since Wuhayshi broke out of a Yemeni prison and became AQAP\'s leader in 2009.

Formerly an aide-de-camp to Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan, Wuhayshi led h…

Kurdish forces are digging deeper into Syria\'s Raqqa province.

YPG militia are advancing towards ISIL-controlled Tal Abyad, at the Turkish border.

They are setting their sights set on taking the town, raising the prospect of a battle at the border.

For the YPG, seizing Tal Abyad would help them link up Kurdish-controlled areas in Hasaka province and Kobani.

The town is important to the self-proclaimed Islamic State group as the nearest border area to its de facto capital of Raqqa city.

The CIA director has never in the agency’s history been a medical doctor,

In late June, Berlin’s central Kreuzberg district became the scene of a tense standoff between a group of refugees squatting in an abandoned school and the district authorities.

VICE News was on the scene from day one and documented the events that would ultimately mark the climax of Germany\'s refugee protest. We gained access inside the school to document the situation and were also on the scene as negotiations between authorities and refugees were taking place to resolve the standoff.

The Philae comet lander has woken up after 7 months. In November it was taken to the 67P comet by the Rosetta spacecraft ... and then lost contact with Earth. The spacecraft that took the lander there travelled for 10 years through the stars to reach the celestial body 500 million miles away. The landing was the first controlled landing on a comet ever. It\'s hoped the mission will provide understanding of how the Earth was formed, and the origins of life. RT is joined by Matt Taylor, a project scientist from the Rosetta Mission.
