"My mother is a Bahamian. My father is a Bahamian, as am I, ... And all that I am, I've received from them and a country that has today given me the opportunities, and to my grandchildren, that I have never dreamt of."
"I'll always be chasing you, ... Glory."
"[Smith said he, too, is pleased by the recognition of African-American actors. He noted that Poitier was the last man to win a best actor award] and that was 28 years ago. ... Lilies of the Field."
"Southern Gentleman."
"If you apply reason and logic to this career of mine, you're not going to get very far. You simply won't. The journey has been incredible from its beginning. So much of life, it seems to me, is determined by pure randomness."
"We all suffer from the preoccupation that there exists... in the loved one, perfection."
"I don't very often read novels."
"When I set out to become an actor, I had set myself a standard."
"As a man, I've been representative of the values I hold dear. And the values I hold dear are carryovers from the lives of my parents."
"I was not the kind of a principal player that was so in demand that eight or 10 or 12 scripts came per month."
"I had chosen to use my work as a reflection of my values."
"I never had an occasion to question color, therefore, I only saw myself as what I was... a human being."
"I knew what it was to be uncomfortable in a movie theater watching unfolding on the screen images of myself - not me, but black people - that were uncomfortable."
"A good deed here, a good deed there, a good thought here, a good comment there, all added up to my career in one way or another."
"I decided in my life that I would do nothing that did not reflect positively on my father's life."
"I had to satisfy the action fans, the romantic fans, the intellectual fans. It was a terrific burden."
"I wouldn't change a single thing, because one change alters every moment that follows it."
"If you apply reason and logic to this career of mine, you're not going to get very far. You simply won't."
"I lived in a country where I couldn't live where I wanted to live. I lived in a country where I couldn't go where I wanted to eat. I lived in a country where I couldn't get a job, except for those put aside for people of my colour or caste."
"I know how easy it is for one to stay well within moral, ethical, and legal bounds through the skillful use of words - and to thereby spin, sidestep, circumvent, or bend a truth completely out of shape. To that extent, we are all liars on numerous occasions."

A very famous BahamianAmerican actor film director author and a diplomat Sir Sidney Poiter was born on February 20 1927. In spite of being a Black he rose as a star by giving acclaimed performances in American films and plays thus defying racial stereotyping. During his childhood days he lived in Miami Nassau and New York City. During his stay in New York City he was arrested for non payment of rent and at this stage he decided to join the US Army where he worked as a dishwasher and eventually an audition got him a role with the American Negro Theater. Initially he was not very well accepted by the audiences of the American Negro Theater but later in the very second attempt at theater he bagged the leading role in Lysistrata a Broadway Production. After this there was no looking back and he went on to win awards such as the Oscar Honorary Academy Award the Golden Globe and the BAFTA to name a few. Though Poitier had married Juanita Hardy in 1950 the marriage lasted only till 1965 and his current wife is Joanna Shimkus whom he married on January 23 1976. Sidney Poiter is not only a successful actor he is also a very successful director and has directed films like Stir Crazy Ghost Dad and Let's Do it Again. His work also includes 3 autobiographies entitled This Life 1980 The Measure of a Man A Spiritual Autobiography 2000 and Life Beyond Measure Letters to my GreatGranddaughter 2008. Sidney Poiter currently holds the position of Ambassador of Bahamas to Japan as well as the UNESCO.

Matt Lauer talks to actor Tony Curtis about his new book "American Prince: A Memoir."
Oscar-nominated actor Tony Curtis has died at age 85, the Clark County, Nev., coroner said Thursday.
Coroner Mike Murphy said the 85-year-old actor died at 9:25 p.m. MDT Wednesday at his Las Vegas area home of a cardiac arrest.
Entertainment Tonight first reported the news of Curtis's death, citing a representative for the actor's daughter, Jamie Lee Curtis.
Curtis is perhaps best known for his comedic turn in in Billy Wilder's "Some Like It Hot" with Marilyn Monroe and Jack Lemmon. He also received an Oscar nomination in 1959 for "The Defiant Ones," in which he starred with Sidney Poitier.
His film credits also include "Spartacus," "The Outsider" and "The Sweet Smell of Success" before he turned almost exclusively to comedic roles.
Born Bernard Schwartz in New York City on June 3, 1925, Curtis grew up in the city's Bronx section.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and upon his release he returned to New York City to attend acting classes. A contract with Universal Pictures took him to Hollywood, where he made his debut in 1948's "Criss Cross."

Barbara Stanwyck and Walter Huston are at their fierce finest in master Hollywood craftsman Anthony Mann’s crackling western melodrama The Furies. In 1870s New Mexico Territory, megalomaniacal widowed ranch owner T. C. Jeffords (Huston, in his final role) butts heads with his daughter, Vance (Stanwyck), a firebrand with serious daddy issues, over her dowry, choice of husband, and, finally, ownership of the land itself. Both sophisticated in its view of frontier settlement and ablaze with searing domestic drama, The Furies is a hidden treasure of American filmmaking, boasting Oscar™–nominated cinematography and vivid supporting turns from Judith Anderson, Wendell Corey, and Gilbert Roland.

Biography of Sidney Poiter
Overture
Summertime
A woman is something thing
The wake:Gone, gone, gone; Porgy's prayer
My man's gone now
I got plenty o' nothin'
Bess, you is my woman now
Morning; Catfish row
Oh, I can't sit down
It ain't necessarily so
I ain't got no shame
What you want with Bess
Street cries: Strawberry women; Crab man
I loves you, Porgy
A red headed woman
Clara, Clara
There's a boat that's leavin' soon for New York
Oh, where's my Bess
I'm on my way
