This is a short preview. You can watch the whole film here: http://silent-hall-of-fame.org/other-favorite-films/103-stella-maris-1918-with-film "Stella Maris" is a moving drama, in which Mary Pickford plays two roles very convincingly - one of Stella Maris, a rich paralyzed girl and the other of Unity, an uneducated orphaned girl. Stella lives in a fantasy world, being shielded from the ugly side of life. She especially enjoys the company of John (Conway Tearle), a famous journalist. He lives separately from his alcoholic wife called Louise, but this truth is also hidden from Stella. Unity lives in an orphanage and one day is picked for adoption by Louise. Unity is surprised to learn that she was chosen not to be a daughter, but a servant. One day Unity's groceries are stolen and she returns home empty-handed. Louise has a fit of rage, beats the girl almost to death, and is sentenced later to three years in prison. John adopts Unity to atone for her suffering. In the meantime Stella gets an operation and starts walking. She gradually discovers poverty, war, death and other unpleasant life realities. One day Stella and John declare their love for each other. She then decides to visit his "deserted castle" and is shocked to find there Louise, John's wife, fresh out of prison. Stella is very disillusioned with life when even John lied to her. Unity is in love with John secretly as well, but realizes he is only interested in Stella. She witnesses John's distress after being rejected by Stella and later realizes that these two can never be together as long as Louise lives. John Wayne Movies The Wrecker wrecks trains on the L & R Railroad. One of his victims is Larry Baker's father. Baker wants to find the evildoer, among a host of suspects, but it will be difficult since the Wrecker can disguise himself to look like almost anyone. A THRILLER of the ROARING RAILS In Twelve Crashing Episodes "The Hurricane Express" was one of three serials that John Wayne made for Nat Levine and Mascot Pictures after leaving Columbia Pictures following a run-in with mogul Harry Cohn over the affections of a young starlet. The Mascot serials were always fast paced and full of action and this one is no exception. The story revolves around a mysterious character named "The Wrecker" who is bent on destroying the L & R Railroad. He causes the wreck of the Hurricane Express in which engineer Jim Baker (J. Farrell MacDonald) is killed. His son Larry (Wayne), an airline pilot vows to avenge his father's death. And that's basically it. Wayne goes through the rest of the serial trying to identify "The Wrecker" and bring him to justice. Is the villain Edwards (Tully Marshall), the General Manager of the railroad; Stevens (Conway Tearle) the railroad attorney; Walter Grey (Lloyd Whitlock) the head of the airline; Stratton (Edmund Breese) an escaped convict who claims to have been set up by the railroad; Jordan (Matthew Betz) an engineer who was fired and has vowed revenge or is it Carlson (Alan Bridge) a station agent? Aiding Baker is the lovely Gloria Martin (Shirley Grey) who turns out to be Stratton's daughter. Appearing as "The Wrecker's" henchmen are Ernie Adams, Charlie King, Glenn Strange and Al Ferguson. Complicating matters is the fact that "The Wrecker" can impersonate anybody by donning a life like mask of that person. Never mind that he can also apparently assume their physical characteristics and clothing as well. After 12 chapters, a number of false leads and red herrings "The Wrecker" turns out to be.......wait, no, no...Bam! Bam!..aaaargh! John Wayne was quite young and very athletic at the time this serial was made and can be seen clearly performing many of his own stunts. The winsome Grey was also at Columbia at the same time as Wayne and even appeared in a picture or two with him. I wonder..hmmmm. These old serials also provide a snapshot of the times. I particularly enjoyed seeing the old cars, trains and planes. A bit dated but a nevertheless enjoyable piece of nostalgia. The Hurricane Express (1932) Full Length Western John Wayne Films

Bordertown, a weekly, half-hour western, quickly became the Family Channel's highest rated original series when it debuted in 1989. It had a very successful three year run before it was cancelled due to high production costs. The series still has a loyal following among fans. The series is set in the 1880's, and centers around two lawmen, an American Marshal and a Canadian Mounted Policeman, who must share jurisdiction of a small town that straddles the U.S./Canadian border. Both are romantically interested in Marie Dumont, the French widow of the town doctor, who has taken over her late husband's practice.

Conway Tearle (17 May 1878 – 1 October 1938) was an Anglo-American stage actor who went on to perform in silent and early sound films.
Frederick Conway Tearle was born in New York City the son of the well-known British-born cornetist Jules Levy and American actress, Mary “Minnie” Conway. Minnie Conway was a direct descendent of William Augustus Conway, a British Shakespearian actor who became popular in America during the 1820s. Her father, the proprietor of the Brooklyn Theatre, was said to have organized the first stock company in America. After Tearle’s parents divorced, his mother married Osmond Tearle, a British Shakespearian actor popular in “the provinces”. Conway Tearle was the step-brother of actor Malcolm Tearle and a half brother of actor Godfrey Tearle. and jazz musician Jules Levy Jr.
Conway Tearle was educated in England and America and took to the stage at an early age. By the age of ten he could recite twelve Shakespearean plays from memory. His big break came at the age of twenty-one when in Manchester, England, without any preparation, he was called upon to play Hamlet after the lead actor took ill just prior to the first act.
Marion Mitchell Morrison (born Marion Robert Morrison; May 26, 1907 – June 11, 1979), better known by his stage name John Wayne, was an American film actor, director and producer. An Academy Award-winner, Wayne was among the top box office draws for three decades, and was named the all-time top money-making star. An enduring American icon, he epitomized rugged masculinity and is famous for his demeanor, including his distinctive calm voice, walk, and height.
Wayne was born in Winterset, Iowa but his family relocated to the greater Los Angeles area when he was four years old. He found work at local film studios when he lost his football scholarship to USC as a result of a bodysurfing accident. Initially working for the Fox Film Corporation, he mostly appeared in small bit parts. His acting breakthrough came in 1939 with John Ford's Stagecoach, making him an instant star. Wayne would go on to star in 142 pictures, primarily typecast in Western films.
Among his best known films are The Quiet Man (1952), which follows him as an Irish-American boxer and his love affair with a fiery spinster played by Maureen O'Hara; The Searchers (1956), in which he plays a Civil War veteran who seeks out his abducted niece; Rio Bravo (1959), playing a Sheriff with Dean Martin; True Grit (1969), playing a humorous U.S. Marshal who sets out to avenge a man's death in the role that won Wayne an Academy Award; and The Shootist (1976), his final screen performance in which he plays an aging gunslinger battling cancer.
Lionel Barrymore (April 28, 1878 – November 15, 1954) was an American actor of stage, screen and radio. He won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in A Free Soul (1931), and remains perhaps best known for the role of the villainous Henry Potter character in Frank Capra's 1946 film It's a Wonderful Life. He was also a member of the illustrious theatrical Barrymore family.
Lionel Barrymore was born Lionel Herbert Blythe in Philadelphia, the son of actors Georgiana Drew Barrymore and Maurice Barrymore. He was the elder brother of Ethel and John Barrymore, the uncle of John Drew Barrymore and Diana Barrymore, and the great-uncle of Drew Barrymore. Barrymore was raised a Roman Catholic. He attended the Episcopal Academy in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
In her autobiography, Eleanor Farjeon recalled that when she and Barrymore were friends as toddlers, she would take off her shoes and he would kiss her feet.
He was married twice, to actresses Doris Rankin and Irene Fenwick, a one-time lover of his brother John. Doris's sister Gladys was married to Lionel's uncle Sidney Drew, which made Gladys both his aunt and sister-in-law.
