Getty Images, Inc. is a stock photo agency, based in Seattle, Washington, USA. It is a supplier of stock images for business and consumers with an archive of 80 million still images and illustrations and more than 50,000 hours of stock film footage. It targets three markets—creative professionals (advertising and graphic design), the media (print and online publishing), and corporate (in-house design, marketing and communication departments).
Getty has distribution offices around the world and capitalizes on the Internet and CD-ROM collections for distribution. As Getty has acquired other older photo agencies and archives, it has digitised their collections, enabling online distribution. Getty Images now operates a large commercial website which allows clients to search and browse for images, purchase usage rights and download images. Costs of images vary according to the chosen resolution and type of rights associated with each image. The company also offers custom photo services for corporate clients.

Patient research work involving more than 5 thousand photographs resulted in a 1 minute film that AlmapBBDO created to advertise Getty Images, the world leading image database for creating and distributing visual contents. The film is surprising when showing 873 images in 15 images per second, sufficient speed to transform the series into a video that, without any text, tells a beautiful story. All photos, without any exceptions, are from the Getty Images archives.
Copywriter Sophie Schoenburg and art director Marcos Kotlhar worked 6 months researching images, improving the script and building each scene so they would not only be understood, but would also touch viewers. Sometimes, for example, a scene would look perfect on paper, but the images chosen to depict it were not sufficient or did not perfectly match up to offer the right movement and sense. And hence the research had to be restarted. The film was directed by Cisma, via Paranoid BR, along with Marcos Kotlhar, the art director at the agency.
For this creation team, the purpose was to adhere to the concept that Getty Images has so many images that anybody is capable of telling any story they want by only using their archives. In the film "Do amor ao Bingo em 873 imagens" [From love to Bingo in 873 images], a storyteller in the corner of the screen describes the images used. The Getty Images logo appears at the end of the story, but the storyteller continues to turn until reaching the exact number of images in the Getty Images archive.

Getty Images & Lean In celebrate the one year anniversary of the Lean In image collection
Partnership to repicture women and girls is driving cultural change and commercial success in more than 65 countries
Getty Images, the world’s leader in visual communication, and LeanIn.Org, the women’s non-profit founded by Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, are celebrating one year of partnership with the anniversary of the Getty Images Lean In Collection – a curation of images devoted to the powerful depiction of women, girls and the communities who support them. Images from the collection have been licensed in over 65 countries, including Qatar, Kuwait and Korea, with sales doubling since the collection’s inception in February, 2014.
Thousands of images have been licensed through the collection across a wide variety of industries, with two of the biggest sectors being financial and tech organisations – industries which are actively trying to attract more women.
Speaking on the anniversary, Getty Images Co-Founder and CEO, Jonathan Klein said: “From the creation of Getty Images 20 years ago, we have been guided by the belief that imagery can change the world. Getty Images partnership with Sheryl Sandberg’s LeanIn.org to break down stereotypes and kill the cliché is changing the conversation about the depiction of women in visual communications and has delivered impressive bottom line results.”
“Men and women should be equally represented at the boardroom table and at the kitchen table. To get there we need reform of our policies, we need to encourage women to fulfil their ambitions and we need to encourage men to do their part in the home - but we also need to address how women and men are depicted, because you can’t be what you can’t see,” said Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook COO, author of Lean In and founder of LeanIn.Org. “We are thrilled to be able to partner with Getty Images on this project and our shared commitment to literally repicture women, men and equality.”
More than 2,000 images have been added to the collection since the launch, bringing the total to over 4,500, with new content being added each month. The collection is hand-curated by Getty Images’ global trend experts and LeanIn.Org, led by Getty Images Director of Visual Trends Pam Grossman and LeanIn.Org Contributing Editor Jessica Bennett.
Usage is growing in the US, UK and Canada, and growth is also being seen in a diverse range of countries including Russia, Mexico, Singapore and China.
The success of the partnership with Lean In has inspired Getty Images to address how other key concepts are communicated visually through the company’s RePicture movement, such as RePicture family and RePicture love, calling for content that breaks down stereotypes and celebrates the world in its raw and authentic form.

Getty Images awarded $80,000 in grants supporting the work of four international photojournalists. Bharat Choudhary, Kosuke Okahara, Paolo Marchetti and Sebastian Liste each received $20,000 prizes and editorial support as winners of the 2012 Getty Grants for Editorial Photography. An additional $20,000 was also pledged to the Chris Hondros Fund in order to further support photojournalism and public awareness initiatives through an award given to Andrea Bruce and Dominic Bracco in June.
Announced at Visa pour l'Image, the annual festival of photojournalism held in Perpignan, France, the grants—first established in 2004—aim to "enable emerging and established photojournalists to pursue projects of personal and editorial merit, focusing attention on significant social and cultural issues."
This year's panel of judges, including Whitney Johnson (Director of Photography, The New Yorker), Jean-Francois Leroy (Director, Visa pour l'Image), Barbara Griffin (Turner Broadcasting Systems), Kira Pollack (Director of Photography, TIME) and photographer Stephanie Sinclair, sorted through 328 story proposals from 60 countries, eventually narrowing in on four projects. According to Aidan Sullivan, Vice President of Assignments at Getty, these four winning projects "deal with a range of compelling and multifaceted issues, from the devastation caused by the Japanese natural disasters to modern day slavery in Brazil."
Bharat Choudhary, an Indian photographer based in London, was recognized for his project, The Silence of Others, which aims to explore the societal and cultural alienation of Muslim youth in France. His project initially began two years ago by examining the 'Islamophobia' of aspects of American and British life. The grant will allow Choudhary to continue his project, delving further into specific triggers inherent to French society.
Four years ago, Paolo Marchetti began FEVER -- The Awakening of European Fascism after noticing a resurgence of interest in extreme right-wing politics. The Rome-based photographer has documented the exponential growth of citizens fleeing their own country in the wake of the Arab Spring. Marchetti will expand the project to other European countries with the award funds.
Tokyo-based photographer Kosuke Okahara documented the devastation at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant following the earthquake that struck Japan in March 2011. The grant will help Okahara continue Fragments/Fukushima as he investigates the true meaning of the disaster upon the world's populations through images and audio interviews.
Sebastian Liste's project, The Brazilian Far West, explores the inequalities caused by Brazil's slow and gradual abolition of slavery, particularly affecting the plight of peasants. Liste, a Spaniard, plans to create a multimedia map illustrating the origins of Brazilian inequality and violence, utilizing photography, video and first person interviews to draw attention to the effects caused by 4% of Brazil's landowners controlling 80% of the country's arable land.

Re/code Acquisition: What It Could Mean For The Tech Site
Re/Code gets acquired by Vox Media. But what's that mean for Re/Code consumers? Well, not much.

Tech news site Re/code made quite the announcement Tuesday, one that could mean huge growth. The company has been acquired by digital media powerhouse, Vox Media. Terms of the deal have not been made public. (Video via Vox Media)
Now, if you're a Re/code fan, don't have a system meltdown just yet — according to the site, from a consumer standpoint the acquisition won't make a huge difference.
As founders Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher put it, "We will continue to publish under the same name and leadership, with editorial independence. We will also continue to hold our signature Code conferences, and even add new ones."
And with the Code conferences arguably being one of the tech world's most distinguished events — that's Google co-founder Sergey Brin on stage last year — the idea of adding more events like this to the slate is kind of a big deal.
But still, as CNN notes, the acquisition comes as a bit of a surprise. Especially since it was just two years ago Mossberg left The Wall Street Journal, opting for a more independent route.
"Ultimately there are some things you need to have your own business, your own show to do. And that's what we're doing," Mossberg told CNN back in 2013.
And it seems in the past few years that goal has been accomplished, so maybe it's the right time to make a move to Vox. The media company sees more than 150 million unique users a month.
And as The New York Times notes, "Despite developing a reputation for consistently breaking industry news, ReCode has struggled to draw significant traffic. ... [The deal] would give ReCode access to a wider audience."
It will also give Re/code the chance to work alongside The Verge. Re/Code will focus on "the business of tech, while The Verge has focused on covering tech from a lifestyle perspective."
Both Mossberg and Swisher will stay with the company, which is currently in the middle of its 2015 Code Conference which began Tuesday.

Ind. Lawmaker Wants To Make Booze Cheaper - For Distillers
Rep. Todd Young of Indiana introduced a bill Tuesday that will cut taxes for distilleries that make whiskey, vodka, rum and gin.

An Indiana legislator introduced a bill Tuesday that could take the edge off the cost of booze.
House Republican Todd Young, a representative from Indiana, introduced the Distillery Innovation and Excise Tax Reform Act — a bi-partisan bill which seeks to significantly cut excise taxes on distilled spirits like whiskey, rum, gin and vodka. (Video via C-SPAN)
Cutting taxes on liquors sounds like Young is doing drinking Americans a favor and lightening our bar tabs, but the legislation is a bit more business-oriented.
Spirits have higher taxes on them than beer and wine. According to this chart from the Distilled Spirits Council, more than half of what you pay for a bottle of 80 proof liquor goes to taxes and fees. Trade groups like the Distilled Spirits Council believe that has lead to distilleries cutting jobs.
Young, the co-sponsors of the legislation and trade groups representing distillers all want to take some of the financial burden off companies who make distilled spirits. American Craft Spirits Association President Tom Mooney said in a statement, "This bill will help create jobs across America for the rapidly growing distilling industry."
But alcohol taxes are a big source of revenue for the U.S. According to statistics from the U.S. Congressional Budget Office, alcohol taxes brought in nearly $10 billion last year.

Cleveland Policing Reforms Could Be 'National Model'
Cleveland's agreement for policing reforms could be a "road map" for police departments nationwide.

Transcript:
Days after a Cleveland police officer shot and killed 12-year-old Tamir Rice, the Justice Department released a report saying Cleveland police had a pattern of using "unnecessary and excessive deadly force" that violated its citizens' civil rights.
Now federal and city officials have reached an agreement on some of the strictest police reforms in the nation, potentially setting a bar for departments across the country.
"To announce what I agree is a historic agreement that will transform the way the city of Cleveland is policed for years and years to come," said U.S. Attorney Steven Dettelbach of the Northern District of Ohio.
The deal calls for more training and accountability for police, which lines up with demands of protesters Saturday who were angry after a judge found a Cleveland police officer not guilty of manslaughter in the shooting of two unarmed suspects in 2012.
The new agreement comes at a time when police departments across the nation are considering reforms to address excessive force.
"We have signed and are filing a 105-page, comprehensive consent decree that, once approved, will not only serve as a road map for reform in Cleveland but as a national model for any police department ready to escort a great city to the forefront of the 21st century," Dettelbach said.
Some of the changes for Cleveland include barring the use of lethal force and training to better de-escalate situations. The police department will also be required to keep better records about police stops and use of force.
The lack of comprehensive statistics nationally on such issues is something the Obama administration said it wants to change. Cleveland will have an independent monitor to make sure the reforms are carried out.
These are the types of reforms being considered nationally.
The Justice Department has opened more than a dozen investigations into police departments under the Obama administration and has reached similar deals in cities like New Orleans, Seattle and Detroit.
Justice Department and Cleveland officials are now presenting the agreement to a federal judge for approval.

"Super ninja baby!" Heidi Pratt's big sister wrote, alongside a snap of little Isaiah wearing an orange striped onesie by Bebe au Lait and resting his back against a quilted blanket. He looks to the side with a mildly befuddled expression and curls his little fingers into a tiny fist.

Us Weekly confirmed that Holly, 31, welcomed her first child with her husband Richie Wilson on May 3. Baby Isaiah weighed in a 7 pounds and 5 ounces.
"I have never been more in love," Holly shared days after the news was revealed. "@wichierilson and I are beyond blessed that our angel Isaiah chose us to be his parents. Thanks for the love!"

She and Wilson married in September 2014, and announced their pregnancy to Us in January. In the interim, her reality star sister told Us Weekly that witnessing her sister's pregnancy made her reevaluate having kids.

Kim Kardashian Cried When Kanye West Gave Her Closet a Makeover
Kim Kardashian admitted that Kanye West picks out most of her looks.
Credit: Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images
If Kim Kardashian’s Cinderella, then Kanye West was her clothing fairy godmother back when they started dating in 2012. The “Only One” rapper, 37, gave the reality star, 34, a closet makeover at the start of their relationship, which was documented on an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
PHOTOS: Kim Kardashian's changing face
Years later Kardashian landed the April 2014 cover of Vogue with her hubby and has attended countless fashion events (including the Met Gala), often applauded for her bold style choices. In a recent interview on Live With Kelly and Michael, North West’s mom recalled the moment West cleaned out her closet.
PHOTOS: Kimye's sweet romance
“He had his stylists come in and they put everything that he thought wasn’t cool enough in a pile, and I walked in and it was a pile to the ceiling of shoes — all my amazing shoes that I loved,” she said. “And I started crying. I was like, ‘I can’t get rid of this stuff, your stylist has no idea what she’s talking about.’ So I put it all in another room, and I was like, ‘I’ll trust your opinion, but I’m not getting rid of my stuff.’”

But West didn’t just take, he also gave.

“Then I walked in my room and there was an entire room filled with all new clothes of all the stuff he wanted to fill back up my closet with,” he revealed. “And it was really cool new designer stuff and I hadn’t even heard of some of these designers before. It really helped me fall in love with fashion. I eventually did get rid of that stuff — my style has to evolve and change — but I couldn’t see it at that time.”

These days Kardashian helps her hubby dress up some of his simplistic outfits, but admitted, “He totally picks out my looks. I really do trust his opinion.”
Tell Us: Do you think Kim’s style has improved since Kanye began dressing her?

Twitter, Flipboard Deal Could Chip Away At Facebook's Empire
Twitter is reportedly in talks to buy Flipboard. Here's why the acquisition makes sense for both companies.

What does one struggling tech company plus another struggling tech company equal?
Potentially, a news-service app that could better compete with Facebook.
Twitter is apparently in talks to buy magazine-esque link aggregator Flipboard. According to Re/code, which first reported the acquisition, the price tag would be around $1 billion.
There are many facets to this deal, but ultimately, the sale would make both brands better equipped to compete with — well — Facebook.
Facebook recently started publishing news outlets' content directly to the site. It's called Instant Articles. (Video via Facebook)
"Facebook is already the way that millions of people get their news, but they're getting it in a fashion that Facebook considers really slow. It’s taking an average of 8 seconds between the time you tap on a link inside the Facebook app and the time that the article fully loads," said Casey Newton, The Verge's Silicon Valley editor.
Instant Articles fixes that lag issue, but the Nieman Journalism Lab said the service has little to do with faster-loading Web pages and everything to do with selling your data and keeping you on the site.
By acquiring Flipboard, Twitter — a place where news often breaks — could do the same thing with news content. It could begin to promote itself as a type of news service and go head to head with Facebook.
That means (potentially) more advertising revenue for Twitter and possibly more users spending time with the blue bird. (Video via Twitter)
But what would Flipboard get out of the deal? Our guess is that they'd finally start to gain new users.
According to the The Guardian, "The company ... has struggled to grow beyond its early-adopter userbase."
Which is mostly made up of Samsung users who had the Flipboard app pre-installed on their phones — or the true early adopters who regularly login to Flipboard.com.
If Twitter really wants to buy Flipboard, the time is now. Re/code reports the aggregator "is an attractive acquisition target" for other social media sites.

Bette Midler reacted to Josh Duggar's ongoing molestation scandal: "Is there anything more delicious than irony?"
Credit: Rob Kim/Getty Images; Inset: D Dipasupil/Getty Images for Extra
The Divine Miss M weighs in. Like many of her fellow celebrities, Hollywood vet Bette Midler reacted to Josh Duggar's ongoing molestation scandal on Monday, May 25.
"Josh Duggar resigned from an anti-gay 'family' group due to molestation allegations," the entertainer, 69, tweeted to her 707,000-plus followers. "Kids, is there anything more delicious than irony?"
PHOTOS: The Duggar family album
Josh, the eldest of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar's 19 kids, responded to his molestation allegations last Thursday, May 21, acknowledging and apologizing for his past transgressions. That same day, Josh also stepped down from his position as Executive Director of FRC Action at the Family Research Council, a Christian nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C.
PHOTOS: Stars' shocking secrets
In a statement released to Us Weekly, his former boss and the lobbying organization's president Tony Perkins said: "Today Josh Duggar made the decision to resign his position as a result of previously unknown information becoming public concerning events that occurred during his teenage years. Josh believes that the situation will make it difficult for him to be effective in his current work. We believe this is the best decision for Josh and his family at this time. We will be praying for everyone involved."
PHOTOS: Jill and Derick's wedding album
None of his immediate family members — including his pregnant wife Anna, sisters Jill and Jessa, nor his parents — have updated social media since the statements were last posted on the family's official Facebook page.
Meanwhile, Josh's cousin Amy Duggar, 28, posted about "peace" this past weekend as the controversy continued to make headlines everywhere.
PHOTOS: Jessa and Ben's romance
Like Midler, stars like Montel Williams and Ryan Reynolds have publicly chimed in on the controversy, calling out the Duggars' historically anti-gay agenda. Another TLC star, Mama June Shannon from Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, also railed against the family and network last week, but for different reasons.
Jessa's father-in-law also discussed the scandal on Sunday, saying the Seewalds were standing by the Duggars, and thinking about the victims at this time. "I want to say that the Seewald family stands with the Duggar family in solidarity. We stand with the unnamed victims of these incidents," Michael Seewald wrote on Sunday. "Our thoughts and prayers are for you. I want to say to Josh, hang in there, the shame you feel is legitimate, yet Jesus took your shame as he was punished in your place."

Tensions Between China, US Rising In South China Sea
China is agitated over the diplomatic tiff in the South China Sea as the U.S. increases its activity in the area.
Follow JamalAndress: http://www.twitter.com/JamalAndress
See more at http://www.newsy.com
Transcript:
A conflict between the U.S. and China continues to escalate in the South China Sea, where the Asian superpower is reinforcing its claims to the sea against the wishes of the U.S. and pretty much everyone else involved.
On Tuesday, China's military issued a report reaffirming a more aggressive strategy in the region, which borders China, Thailand, the Philippines and U.S. ally Taiwan.
That report comes after China condemned the U.S. for flying a surveillance plane over areas of the sea controlled by China. In a Vine posted by CNN's Jim Sciutto, you can hear warnings issued to U.S. planes flying over the South China Sea:
"This is the Chinese Navy. This is the Chinese Navy. Please go away quickly." (Video via CNN)
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman also warned the U.S. against taking future "provocative action" in the area.
The South China Sea is, by U.N. definition, a shared space: Several bordering countries have a claim to its coast, plus 200 miles. China flouted that agreement in early May, when they began drilling for oil just off the coast of Vietnam.
The South China Sea is a pivotal trading route, and it's also suspected to have abundant natural resources — hence China's drilling. More recently, China began constructing artificial islands in the sea, allegedly to house airstrips.
This seems to back up China's promise of increasing military control over the area, and it has piqued the interest of the U.S. and others, who are calling for peaceful negotiations over resources.
China claims it should have sovereignty over virtually all of the South China Sea. The U.S. and other neighbors disagree, but they're working toward easing tensions. Taiwan released a proposed peace initiative Tuesday morning.

China is agitated over the diplomatic tiff in the South China Sea as the U.S. increases its activity in the area.

Traffic noise could partly be to blame if you're overweight. A new study says living next to busy roads could contribute to weight gain.

If your diet isn't working and you live next to a road with heavy traffic, researchers are saying noise could be your problem. Yep. You heard right.
A new study published in the British Medical Journal found living next to a busy road can be a significant risk for obesity because of noise pollution. As the New Zealand Herald notes, this is the first finding linking noise pollution to fat accumulation.
"Researchers say traffic can cause a lot of stress levels to go up, prompting the body to produce more fat because your body thinks it's preparing for a time of crisis when food might be scarce," Ainsley Earhardt of Fox News said.
The study's lead author told The Telegraph the issue of noise pollution is due, in part, to increasing urbanization, and the effects can range from being a simple annoyance to affecting cardiovascular health.
According to The Telegraph, the study found normal traffic noise sits at 45 decibels. But for every increase by five decibels, the average homeowner's waistline gains two tenths of a centimeter.
So let's put this in perspective. Most online sizing charts said going up one pant size means gaining an inch around the waist. So for one increase in pant size, the noise pollution has to reach more than 100 decibels.
Considering a power saw operates at 110 decibels, that'd have to be some intense traffic. But any gain can be significant.
This is an even bigger issue for women, as the National Institutes of Health has cited excess weight around the hips as a risk indicator for cancer and heart disease.
As some researchers are noting, though, this is the first study of its kind, and reviews will be needed before the finding is considered definitive.

A high school senior prank in Maryland left a school full of ladybugs roaming the halls and the suspects facing criminal charges.
Trinity Alexander told WTTG, "I saw one ladybug just pass me, and then all of a sudden, there was like 1,000."
Deputies in St. Mary's County southeast of Washington, D.C., say five people wearing masks and hoodies released about 72,000 ladybugs throughout the school while two others waited in a car.
"I would look at one light, and there would be about 1,000 swarming, just all around it," another student said.
Some of the students thought it was funny because the bugs are considered harmless. But officials didn't agree.
A spokesperson with the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office told WTTG: "They set the burglary alarm off and the police did respond and we arrived there. ... Then it takes it to a different level and we certainly don't want to see anybody get hurt."
Deputies say four juveniles have been charged with burglary, property destruction and disruption of school activities. And the three others, who are old enough to be considered adults, will be charged with criminal summons.
So, where does someone get these ladybugs? Did someone collect them through the years? Nope. Investigators say one of the suspects ordered them online.
We had to see if this was a thing, and sure enough, it is.
Amazon is selling 1,500 live ladybugs for $8.99!
So, if the suspect bought theirs for that asking price, he would've spent around $430. (Video via Discovery)
We're not sure that purchase was worth it.

Johnny Depp faces accusations of bringing his dogs into Australia illegally. Now he could face up to 10 years in prison.

By now you've probably heard the news that Johnny Depp committed a no-no down under.
Get your mind out of the gutter. We are talking about how he illegally brought his two dogs to Australia.
Depp should have gotten an import permit, and he didn't. If he had, the dogs would have undergone a 10-day mandatory quarantine, then would have been free to hang out with their pops.
He was then told to send his two Yorkshire Terriers back to America, or they would be euthanized.
"If you start letting movie stars, even though they've been the sexiest man alive twice, to come into our nation, then why don't we just break the laws for everybody?" Barnaby Joyce, Australia's minister of agriculture, said.
Don't worry, the dogs were sent home safe and sound.
But our Hollywood heart-throb might not be as lucky. No, he's not at risk for being put down, but he could be facing some serious legal trouble for the whole thing.
An Australian senate committee was told if the case goes to court, Depp could face up to ten years in prison and a $340,000 fine, The Guardian reports.
The Sydney Morning Herald says Depp's pilot isn't off the hook either and could face up to two years in prison for "undeclared importing."
Depp was filming "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" in Australia. And, as we all know, now without the companionship of his dogs Boo and Pistol.

Monday reports suggest the Department of Justice has reached a settlement with Cleveland. What might it entail?

Transcript:
As tension continues to grow between Cleveland residents and authorities, the city reportedly reached a settlement Monday with the U.S. Department of Justice over the conduct of its police officers.
First reported by The New York Times, the settlement comes just two days after Cleveland police officer Michael Brelo was acquitted of all charges in the shooting deaths of an unarmed couple in November 2012.
Following the verdict, the Justice Department announced it would further investigate "the testimony and evidence presented" at trial.
Which could be the focal point of the yet unknown details of the settlement. But as far as speculation — the settlement will likely include a roadmap, or at least recommendations, for systematic change within the Cleveland Police Department. (Video via Cleveland.com)
Especially when looking at the DOJ's past report of issues within the city's police force. In December, the department released scathing findings showing, among other problems, Cleveland police officers used "unnecessary and unreasonable force in violation of the Constitution at a significant rate."
“Officers are not provided with adequate training, policy guidance and supervision to do their jobs safely and effectively. ... Cleveland is not alone in the need to address confidence between its police department,” Vanita Gupta said in December.
From Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Trayvon Martin, Walter Scott, Freddie Gray and more, systematic failures within police departments have plagued cities across the country — emphasized now more than ever.
So what might we expect in the Cleveland settlement? We could find some precedent in recent DOJ recommendations. As The New York Times reports, nearly two dozen investigations have been opened by the DOJ under the Obama administration.
"In Seattle, the federal inquiry led local officials to overhaul training and focus on how officers can calm tense situations without using force. In Albuquerque, city officials agreed to change the way the police are trained, outfit officers with body cameras and improve how the department investigates officer-involved shootings."
Details of the settlement aside, the agreement will not only help prevent a lengthy and costly court battle, but it also gives the impression Cleveland city leaders are willing to compromise.
And even though the settlement is a step forward, a legal contributor for Al Jazeera says it's just a small step toward real change.
Areva Martian said, "Now it's time to talk about the solutions. What's happening that's different in these cities to affect and change these patterns and practices that we keep hearing about over and over again? ... How does Cleveland move forward?"
The settlement could be announced as early as Tuesday.

From Love to Bingo Getty Images AlmapBBDO

Getty Images Grants for Editorial Photography 2012
The Getty Images Grants for Editorial Photography are awarded each year. The projects of past recipients may be viewed at http://imagery.gettyimages.com/getty_images_grants/default.aspx

Twitter, Flipboard Deal Could Chip Away At Facebook's Empire
