Sputnik 1 (Russian: "Cпутник-1" Russian pronunciation: [ˈsputʲnʲək], "Satellite-1", ПС-1 (PS-1, i.e. "Простейший Спутник-1", or Elementary Satellite-1)) was the first artificial satellite to be put into Earth's orbit. It was launched into an elliptical low Earth orbit by the Soviet Union on 4 October 1957. The unanticipated announcement of Sputnik 1's success precipitated the Sputnik crisis in the United States and ignited the Space Race, a part of the larger Cold War. The launch ushered in new political, military, technological, and scientific developments. While the Sputnik launch was a single event, it marked the start of the Space Age.
Apart from its value as a technological first, Sputnik also helped to identify the upper atmospheric layer's density, through measuring the satellite's orbital changes. It also provided data on radio-signal distribution in the ionosphere.
Sputnik 1 was launched during the International Geophysical Year from Site No.1/5, at the 5th Tyuratam range, in Kazakh SSR (now at the Baikonur Cosmodrome). The satellite travelled at 29,000 kilometers (18,000 mi) per hour, taking 96.2 minutes to complete an orbit, and emitted radio signals at 20.005 and 40.002 MHz which were monitored by amateur radio operators throughout the world. The signals continued for 22 days until the transmitter batteries ran out on 26 October 1957.Sputnik 1 burned up on 4 January 1958, as it fell from orbit upon reentering Earth's atmosphere, after travelling about 60 million km (37 million miles) and spending 3 months in orbit.
So what is the worth in that dirt that you found?
Well I'll bet that it'll never be a keeper.
If you would just rather sit, sucking the ground,
then stay down brother stay down.
Why would you curse all the truths that you know?
Well keep them coming there's no truth to relieve me
And why would you lay with the lies that you're told? To stay sold?
You just left us tending, well you ought to stayed
I'll just leave my labors and eat at the table I laid
All that a hearse ever eventually found were dead bodies in dead, dumb crowns
Well who really knew that a fountain be found?
So stay down, stay down, brother
(Intro)
When it comes to fattening, there’s no need for an in
And when it comes to hurting my creations, I don’t need a space bin
Sputnik, your theory, alien I’m creator
Sputnik, your theory, alien I’m creator
Everything started by me, it could end, to begin
It could explode out into the cosmos, to begin with nothing on a clear night
As I started it, before infinity been finished
Sputnik, your theory, alien, I’m creator
Sputnik, your theory, alien, I’m creator
Sputnik, your theory, alien, I’m creator
(Interlude)
The sunset on Monterey
In the right place of luxuries
At the right time time time the stars
A familiar, war before me
It was flying, it was flying
Let the space be my replacing friend
All that is acknowledged theorizes love
It dissolves, before it begins
Sputnik, your theory, alien, I’m creator
Sputnik, your theory, alien, I’m creator
Sputnik, your theory, alien, I’m creator
(Lead)
Sputnik, your theory, alien, I’m creator
Sputnik, your theory, alien, I’m creator
Sputnik, your theory, alien, I’m creator
I was incomplete - until I found you satellite!!
Growed in disbelief - Sputnik launch changed everything
Soon, they will be dropping - bombs on us from space everyday
But what was scared and cold - with your help fades away
The long awaited flight - cause only love can last
Remember the profound shock - for present, future, past
Flying high - for the stars
Tell the world - Come me (Commie) sky
we hope you - knows enough
On the ball - to get us
Flying high - little ship
With made-in-moscow beep
King of the sky - within temptation
I build, you pay - new democracy
Still have, no way - idly desires
Ignorant lust - by soviet lair
All day in my head sputnik falling
I don't want to set the world skying
Racing for power and all dying
Rising new era - soviet general!!
Flying high - for the stars
Tell the world - come me (commie) sky
we hope you - knows enough
On the ball - to get us
King of the sky - within temptation
A satellite crashed down last night
On your front lawn
I came to see if you're alright
But you were not alone
I will be around, don't count me out
Take a look around, I'm counting down
Even though I feel like I'm in outer space
Watching over you
A cosmonaut crashed on my spot
On your front lawn
You played along, put your spacesuit on
And blasted off
I will be around, don't count me out
Take a look around, I'm counting down
Even though I feel like I'm in outer space
Watching over you
Another night another flight
I watch you go
If I don't tell you how I feel
You'll never know
I will be around, don't count me out
Take a look around, I'm counting down
Even though I feel like I'm in outer space
