JKD JOINT LOCKS AND HOW TO EXECUTE !
In this training series Sifu Joseph and Miss Addy take you through a myriad of knife flow and trapping drills at the intermediate and advanced level. They seamlessly transition in and out of commonly known sensitivity drills such as; Hubud-Lubud, Joint Lock Flow, Sumbrada, and Pekiti Tersia (Polisut Drill). They also integrate aspects of training systems such as Wing-Chun Kung-Fu and FMA. **IMPORTANT NOTE** Beware of an acute overconfidence when learning and training creative knife flow drills. Do not get lost in the flow and DO NOT depend on them to protect your life. It's a bit delusional to believe flow drills are fighting. They are not. Utilize these drills to develop soft movement, adaptability, tactile sensitivity, timing, and range. This series is bases on the assumed knowledge that you already have experience in Empty hand Hubud and Joint Lock Flow. Please click on these links if you do not know Hubud or Lock flow to learn more. A Joint lock is a grappling technique involving manipulation of an opponent's joints in such a way that the joints reach their maximal degree of motion.
In budō these are referred to as, 関節技 kansetsu-waza, "joint locking technique") and in Chinese martial arts as chin na which literally means "catching and locking".
These typically involve isolating a particular joint and leveraging it in an attempt to force the joint to move past its normal range of motion. Joint locks usually involve varying degrees of pain in the joints and, if applied forcefully and/or suddenly, may cause injury, such as muscle, tendon and ligament damage and even dislocation or bone fracture.
In judo, the combining of standing locks with throws are forbidden due to the risk of physical harm to the falling opponent, while jujutsu, taijutsu, aikido and hapkido allow their use.
Joint locks can be divided into five general types according to which section of the body they affect:
These general types can be further divided into subtypes according to which specific joint(s) they affect, or the type of motion they involve.
