From what do you consider yourself saved? Your sins, yourself, your friends, your god or all of the above? And now what? The passage "Come ye out from among them, is NOT a reference to so called sin or sinners, but of non-believers including Pharisaic Jews who resented and resisted the Grace teaching of freedom from OT legalism. The theme of verses 14 - 18 of the 6th chapter of 2 Cor, was a warning against idolatry and not being yoked (covenantally) with "unbelievers", or those not persuaded in the Grace teachings of the NT. Most folk associate this passage with those considered "sinning saints" or backsliders, but it was the so called sexual sin of Israel's surrounding neighbors who worshipped idols connected with human genitals, as the origin or life as opposed to spiritual Genesis with life originating from God or the Divine. Paul's reference to Isaiah 52:11 actually says in KJV (Depart ye, depart ye, go ye out from thence, touch no unclean thing; (NOT PERSON) go ye out of the midst of her; (not them) be ye clean, that bear the vessels of the Lord. The NIV translates it: Depart, depart, go out from there! Touch no unclean "thing"! Come out from it and be pure. To be pure is to be accurate. Things can be ideologies, virtues, values and validities that are transcendent or not. Of the 13 occurrences of the word "tradition" in the New Testament, one (Matt 15:3) is where the Pharisees ask Jesus why his disciples didn't follow the tradition of the elders. One is a comment by Mark (Mark 7:3) of how the Pharisees washed before eating. Each of the remaining accounts in Matthew and Mark (six occurrences), Jesus responds to the Pharisees by condemning them for their traditions (traded down pre-conceived notions; Matt 15:3,6; Mark 7:5,8,9,13) and thus negating the word of God. This is hugely important because Jesus is telling us that traditions are not to contradict God's word. The term God’s word in Jesus’ day was a reference exclusively to the OT. In New Testament times, including modern times, the word, “Word” is the greek word, logos which is a figurative reference to our English word, logic, reasoning or rationale of Divine Mind. NOT humankind’s warped and inaccurate understanding of what God is, wants and says. Ignorance and basic innocence, due to ignorance has prevailed far too long and must experience awakening to the broader hope, truths and awarenesses.
