Animesh Pathak is a research scientist in the Mimove team at the Inria Paris-Rocquencourt Research Centre. Born in India, he started out as an intern on the Institute’s internship programme, returning later after a period of time spent in America.

L’INRIA (Institut National de Recherche dédié au numérique) installé à Rocquencourt depuis 1967 va bientôt déménager à Paris. L’objectif : rassembler étudiants et chercheurs dans le même périmètre.
Un déménagement prévu depuis 2007
Avant la fin du mois de janvier, l’ensemble des services de support à la recherche quitteront les locaux de l’INRIA à Rocquencourt. Environ 300 chercheurs sont concernés par ce départ dont le projet est prévu depuis 2007.
L’INRIA s’installera Place d’Italie dans la capitale. « Nous avons cherché un nouveau site pour nous rapprocher de nos partenaires, mais également pour nous rapprocher des transports en commun. Nous avons étudié de nombreuses possibilités dans les Yvelines, aucune n’a aboutie » explique Isabelle Ryl, directrice du centre de recherche Paris-Rocquencourt.
Une nouvelle mal reçue
Le projet prévoit le déménagement d’une partie du site, le siège social reste quant à lui à Rocquencourt avec 120 employés. Jean-François Peumery, maire LR de Rocquencourt, ne voit pas la nouvelle d’un très bon oeil : « Nous n’avons pas été associés au déroulement de l’histoire, on l’a appris un peu par hasard. En 2007, des promesses importantes avaient été faites à l’INRIA pour garder cet institut de prestige dans les Yvelines ». Le Conseil départemental et Versailles Grand Parc comptent tout mettre en oeuvre pour conserver le siège social dans la commune.
L’INRIA ne quitte cependant pas les Yvelines et conserve son antenne de Saclay. « Dans notre domaine, il y a deux très gros pôles d’attractivité qui sont le plateau de Saclay et le centre de Paris. Nous restons sur le plateau de Saclay et nous continuons à investir sur ce plateau » rassure Isabelle Ryl. Avec ce départ de l’INRIA, sept hectares seront libérés à Rocquencourt.

French Institute for Research in Computer Science and Automation
The French Institute for Research in Computer Science and Automation (French: Institut national de recherche en informatique et en automatique) is a French national research institution focusing on computer science and applied mathematics. It was created under the name Institut de recherche en informatique et en automatique (IRIA) in 1967 at Rocquencourt near Paris, part of Plan Calcul. Its first site was the historical premises of SHAPE (central command of NATO military forces). In 1979 IRIA became INRIA. Since 2011, it has been styled inria.
Inria is a Public Scientific and Technical Research Establishment (EPST) under the double supervision of the French Ministry of National Education, Advanced Instruction and Research and the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industry.
Administrative status
Inria has 8 research centers (in Bordeaux, Grenoble, Lille, Nancy, Paris-Rocquencourt, Rennes, Saclay, and Sophia Antipolis) and also contributes to academic research teams outside of those centers.

L’INRIA (Institut National de Recherche dédié au numérique) installé à Rocquencourt depuis 1967 va bientôt déménager à Paris. L’objectif : rassembler étudiants et chercheurs dans le même périmètre.
Un déménagement prévu depuis 2007
Avant la fin du mois de janvier, l’ensemble des services de support à la recherche quitteront les locaux de l’INRIA à Rocquencourt. Environ 300 chercheurs sont concernés par ce départ dont le projet est prévu depuis 2007.
L’INRIA s’installera Place d’Italie dans la capitale. « Nous avons cherché un nouveau site pour nous rapprocher de nos partenaires, mais également pour nous rapprocher des transports en commun. Nous avons étudié de nombreuses possibilités dans les Yvelines, aucune n’a aboutie » explique Isabelle Ryl, directrice du centre de recherche Paris-Rocquencourt.
Une nouvelle mal reçue
Le projet prévoit le déménagement d’une partie du site, le siège social reste quant à lui à Rocquencourt avec 120 employés. Jean-François Peumery, maire LR de Rocquencourt, ne voit pas la nouvelle d’un très bon oeil : « Nous n’avons pas été associés au déroulement de l’histoire, on l’a appris un peu par hasard. En 2007, des promesses importantes avaient été faites à l’INRIA pour garder cet institut de prestige dans les Yvelines ». Le Conseil départemental et Versailles Grand Parc comptent tout mettre en oeuvre pour conserver le siège social dans la commune.
L’INRIA ne quitte cependant pas les Yvelines et conserve son antenne de Saclay. « Dans notre domaine, il y a deux très gros pôles d’attractivité qui sont le plateau de Saclay et le centre de Paris. Nous restons sur le plateau de Saclay et nous continuons à investir sur ce plateau » rassure Isabelle Ryl. Avec ce départ de l’INRIA, sept hectares seront libérés à Rocquencourt.
