Algiers — The formation of a national unity government in Libya requires the participation of all Libyans and concessions, said Wednesday in Algiers Minister of Maghreb Affairs, the African Union and the Arab League Abdelkader Messahel.
"The solution sought through the efforts of the United Nations envoy, Bernardino Leon, based on the principle of the formation of a national unity government, requires the contribution of all Libyan brothers to the creation of the necessary conditions," said Messahel in his opening statement at the 3rd round of inter-Libyan dialogue in Algiers.
He underlined that "whatever the different appreciations on concessions to achieve the target, making sacrifices is not difficult for Libyans who show, throughout history, exceptional examples of devotion."
"We have no doubt in Algeria, that the Libyan brothers, from across the political spectrum, have the wisdom, levelheadedness and courage face to the current sensitive situation in their country," he added.
Messahel underscored that "Algeria hopes that Libya would regain stability with a view to addressing together the challenges posed to the sister country."
"Algeria is convinced that despite the complex situation in Libya, the peaceful solution remains the only means that would help to preserve the unity, territorial integrity and national sovereignty of Libya, as well as its social cohesion, in order to build a modern State, protect the potentialities of Libyan people and to efficiently counter the terrorist threat and its devastating plans," said Messahel.
"It's the duty of the international community, as well as of Libya's neighbouring countries and their regional and international partners to continue to work with determination to help the Libyan brothers restore stability and security in their country," he added.
The minister also expressed gratitude to Bernardino Leon and to the delegation accompanying him "for his huge efforts to bridge views and positions and to reach a solution that would ensure the stability of Libya and preserve its unity," reiterating "Algeria's support to this noble mission."
The works of the 3rd round of inter-Libyan dialogue continue behind closed doors in Algiers, under the aegis of the UN special envoy and with the presence of Messahel and representatives of the international mediation.
