With Damien Marie AtHope; an Axiological Atheist’s Perspective reality TV shows for anyone interested in Humanism, Atheism, Rationalism, & Philosophy (HARP) to promote the discussion of those ideas. Let’s “HARP” on thinking rationally. I thought up doing a reality TV show like style or whatever someone would call this because of responses I have had from many of my friends on Facebook who either don't get to go to atheist groups very much or not at all do to where they live and the lack of available meetings or groups to go to. My thinking is that it may be fun to watch and feel like you’re involved in an atheist community or at least the next best thing. I thought of doing like a reality TV show style where a I point a camera at me when I am at atheist meetups, talking, developing ideas, giving my ideas, learning things or arguing with other atheists. (but not scripted, not debate or not intentionally educational, just a real atheist group get together, like you are at an atheist meeting hearing what is being said) But only having the camera pointed at me to give others atheists privacy since many may not want their face to be made public. Many of us know how outing one ’s self as atheist can bring issues depending on where you live or the culture or family you’re from. Sadly being an atheist for some may carry a stigma. It is a shame that there are so many atheists that live their lives in secret but I am doing this so in a small way they don’t have to be disconnected. There is many other venues and I hope to add this to that more alternatives the better. Increased religiosity amoung women compared to men is a near universal phenomenon. Various explanations are offered by sociologists for this , which are briefly discussed in the first part of this talk , with examples drawn from Kerala society. In the second part, a parallel is drawn between Machismo behavior among men described in Latin american societies , and the situation in our society. It is postulated that the prevailing state of 'rationalism under the shadow of machismo' could be one reason why we see less number of female freethinkers . In the small final part, it is stressed that only a feminist could be a true rationalist..

Enlightenment rationalism and Dialectical materialism are entirely incompatible. A rationalist accepts the 'Universal duty to base her beliefs only on adequate evidence.'. Dialectical materialism, the philosophy propounded by Marx and Engels, is nothing more than an imaginary theory with absolutely no connection to the way nature or society really works. Marxists however hold that this theory holds the key to understand everything human-history, natural science, economics, you name it! In spite of the general waning of interest in Marxism all over the world, many pockets in the third world still continue to be under its influence. It is important for freethinkers in these regions to understand it and to debunk it, just as in the case of other belief systems.

Catholica and the Blue Mountain Education & Research Trust present a series of extended cyber conversations with four leading writers on spirituality, Rev Dr Eugene Stockton, Mr Peter B. Todd, Professor David Tacey and Dr Kevin Treston examining the question why there has been such a dramatic fall-off in religious participation across the Western world in the last half century. The conversations are moderated by Australia's leading religious affairs journalist and presenter, Stephen Crittenden. This second conversation is focused on what the authors discern is one of the major challenges facing the institutional Church and traditional expressions of religion coming from the sciences and the neo-atheists and rationalists. The first three conversations concentrate discussion on explanations for the fall-off in participation. The final three examine positive ways in which the spiritual landscape in Western society seems to be changing. Have we entered, as author Karen Armstrong suggests, a Third Great Axial Age of Religion and the entire way we humans relate to the spiritual side of life and God is changing dramatically? This program was originally published on Catholica at: http://www.catholica.com.au/gc0/ttm/017_ttm_091213.php. EDUCATIONAL VIDEO ABOUT CRITICAL RATIONALISM
Far more of this to come our way whirrled-wide from 2015 onwards - peaking in Autumn and reaching a second major apex point a year after this. A whole series of events surrounded this "swaying lamp-posts" incident - and it's interesting seeing how local and national media outlets attempt to deal with such seemingly illogical circumstances. - Thanks to original driver for initial upload. =

Religious faith can inspire great deeds of compassion but it can also be the fertilizer of violence and insanity. Rational voices of meaningful faith cannot fail to speak up in opposition to religion gone crazy, expressing itself in terrorism. Those of us on the left have to do more than defend the Muslim majority, we should also call forth substantive change both in our the western use of military violence and in the tacit if not enthusiastic support in the Middle East for terrorism.

Herald Tribune 2015-03-25In epistemology and in its modern sense, rationalism is "any view appealing to reason as a source of knowledge or justification" (Lacey 286). In more technical terms, it is a method or a theory "in which the criterion of the truth is not sensory but intellectual and deductive" (Bourke 263). Different degrees of emphasis on this method or theory lead to a range of rationalist standpoints, from the moderate position "that reason has precedence over other ways of acquiring knowledge" to the more extreme position that reason is "the unique path to knowledge" (Audi 771). Given a pre-modern understanding of reason, "rationalism" is identical to philosophy, the Socratic life of inquiry, or the zetetic (skeptical) clear interpretation of authority (open to the underlying or essential cause of things as they appear to our sense of certainty). In recent decades, Leo Strauss sought to revive Classical Political Rationalism as a discipline that understands the task of reasoning, not as foundational, but as maieutic. Rationalism should not be confused with rationality, nor with rationalization.
